Chapter 2580

Concerned about potential trouble, Hilda stood and announced, ““I’ll go cook.

    You two chat.”

Quickly, Lucinda caught Hilda by the arm and coaxed her back to her seat.

“Let them handle the kitchen tonight, Hilda.

    Stay here with me.”

“How can I let our guests do the cooking? That’s not right.”

“They hardly see themselves as guests.

    They know what they’re doing.

    Don’t fret,” Lucinda reassured her.

Leaning close, she whispered into Hilda’s ear, “He’s just another man iming to be my husband.

Keep an eye on him for me, will you?”All content ? N/.?vel/Dr/ama.Org.

At that moment, Nathan was at a loss for words.

    He wasn’t deaf.

From such a close distance, he could hear their hushed conversation clearly.

    Whispering was pointless.

Flushed with embarrassment, Hilda stole several nces at Nathan before settling back into her seat with an awkward smile.

Lucinda’s gaze shifted back to Nathan.

Observing him deep in thought, she continued to watch him a moment longer.

As soon as Nathan lifted his head, Lucinda quickly averted her eyes, avoiding eye contact.

In a steady voice, she challenged, “You im to be my husband.

    Can you prove it?”

After a brief pause, Nathan retrieved his phone from his pocket.

His fingers trembled as he scrolled through it, eventually pulling up a photo from the album.

He held out the phone to Lucinda, showing her a picture of their family of four in theb ward.

Lucinda stared at the photo, her expression unreadable.

    “Photos can be manipted.

If you were truly here for me, preparing something like this would have been easy,” she remarked skeptically.

Taking a deep breath, Nathan responded with a wry smile, “We have twins, five years old.

Colby is the older brother and Destinee the younger sister.

Due to the future inheritance issues of the Payne and Simmons families, they carry differentst names.

You were the one who decided that.”

He continued, his voice softening, “A lot happened during your pregnancy.

Your father had a fatal ident falling down the stairs.

There were doubts about your lineage with the Simmons family.

The stress was immense, and it left you on edge, quick to anger…”

Nathan paused, and then slowly rolled up his left sleeve, revealing his muscr arm.

At that moment, Nathan clenched his fist tightly, causing the veins in his arm to bulge noticeably.

He rotated his arm to reveal faint tooth marks etched into his skin.

Gently rubbing the scar, his eyshes fluttered rapidly as he spoke, his voice hoarse and tinged with emotion.

“You got angry when I stopped you from eating those oranges and bit me hard,” Nathan said, his voice breaking.

    “It hurt a lot.”

The pain was sharp, but nothingpared to the ache in his heart when she imed not to remember him and dered she wouldn’t choose him.

Lucinda turned her head, avoiding the sight of the bite marks on Nathan’s arm.

Her expression remained cold and detached.

Observing the scene, Hilda sighed and shook her head, uncertain of what to say.

She knew better than to interfere in the affairs of the young, so she chose to remain silent, simply listening to their exchange.

For a while, the yard fell into silence.

Lucinda spoke slowly, her voice tinged with skepticism.

“You can make up any story you like.

Don’t expect me to believe it.

There are too many deceivers these days.

If I weren’t so cautious, I might have fallen for Kyson’s lies.

And then you wouldn’t even have the opportunity to exin yourself.

I’m not trying to be difficult; I just hope you understand.”

Her tone was detached, resembling that of an interviewer evaluating candidates.
