    Lindsay was momentarily stunned.

    Meanwhile, Ste had returned to the banquet hall, just in time for the charity auction.


    Sanford, having wrapped up his work, scanned the room and spotted Ste in a corner.


    Concerned by her demeanor, he approached and asked, “Is something wrong? Where did you go?”


    Ste forced a smile and replied, “I just needed some fresh air.


    ”


    Sanford looked as though he wanted to probe further, but Ste, sensing his intent, quickly steered the conversation.


    “The auction is about to start.


    Shall we head over?”


    Sanford gave her a thoughtful look but chose to remain silent.


    They took their seats together.


    As Ste settled in, she noticed a sign with Matthew’s name on the chair next to them.


    Ste’s expression shifted slightly as she tried to redirect her focus.


    Sanford handed her the auction list and asked, “Is there anything you like? I can bid on it for you.


    ”


    Ste declined with a polite smile, “Thank you, but there’s no need.


    ”


    Sanford persisted, his smile widening.


    “Are you sure? Or is it that you don’t want me to go through the trouble?”


    With a hint of embarrassment, Ste responded honestly, “You’ve already done so much for me, and I haven’t repaid you.


    How can I ept this as a gift?”


    Sanford was taken aback by her response.


    Raising an eyebrow slightly, he replied firmly, “I haven’t had the chance to repay your father’s kindness, and I didn’t prepare a gift before seeing you.


    Consider this your gift.


    ”


    Given his insistence, Ste couldn’t refuse again.


    She took the list, skimmed it briefly, and selected a ne.
