When the old woman went to get them water, Jeffrey turned to Renee worriedly. He had seen all kinds
of dangerous animals in the sea like sharks and sea snakes, but he had never been as frightened as
he was now.
"Rx, I think she''s a nice person. She''s just poor, so this ce looks a little primitive, but it''s safer
here." Renee tried to console the two teenagers, but wasn''t so sure herself. She believed that the old
woman meant no harm, but the house was very strange. She kept feeling like a ghost might emerge
from one of the rooms at any moment.

The old woman carried a pot of water and a few cups into the hall. "I''m sorry, nobody''s visited me in
years, so it took me a while to find some cups. I''m sure you all are thirsty-have some water." The old
woman poured water for them, looking happy to have guests.
Renee took the cup of water and hesitated briefly before boldly downing the whole cup. However,
Jeffrey and Daisy were more cautious, and didn''t drink it because they were worried there might be
something in the water.
The old woman noticed their refusal to drink, but still smiled at them warmly. "You three are good
people. Although you''re afraid of me, you''re still willing toe in and talk to me. Thank you very
much."
"Madam, don''t say that. We''ve troubled you." Renee fished out some money and jewelry, then stuffed
them into the old woman''s calloused hands. "I''m sorry for imposing on you like this, Madam. Please
take this, it''s only fair."
"No, I can''t. I already have one foot in the grave, so I''m just thankful to have you all here. Take it back!"
The old woman tried to give the money back to Renee. "I''m old, so I don''t need any money."
"Just take it. We won''t feelfortable staying here if you don''t," Renee insisted, giving the money
back to the old woman.
Daisy chimed in, "Madam, just keep it since she wants you to have it. She''s rich, so this bit of money
isn''t much for her."
"Yeah, I''m rich. Just keep it." Smiling, Renee agreed.
"Oh... Alright then." The woman finally epted the money and sighed wistfully. "Rich people like you
are the ones that are truly kind. I bumped into a rich couple many years ago, and they always came to
visit me. This vige developed well back then because of that couple''s support."
The woman''s tone was casual, but Renee realized that this information could be important. She
straightened and asked, "Madam, do you remember what they looked like? Why did theye to this
small ind?"
"Yes, I do. They were very charming. The man looked like a businessman, and the woman looked like
a rich youngdy... They kept a low profile every time they came, and asked me not to let others know
when they were around. I''m not sure why they came though. Maybe it was for business ... or maybe
they just came here to rx." The old woman shook her head, looking thoughtful. "But they liaised with
George Garcia every time they came, and they also gave him a lot of money. Sometimes I feel that
George might have owed them too much, which was why his family was..." The old woman trailed off,
looking sad.
"Who is George Garcia? What happened to his family?'''' Renee asked eagerly.
