    Chapter 2304


    Jovan was stunned to hear Renee''s words. He was so furious, heughed.


    "Maybe!" He agreed with her and looked at her wickedly. "Since I can''t win him over, I want his beloved woman."


    "You''re out of your mind!" Renee was disgusted as goosebumps gripped her. "I''m not his most beloved woman. He loves Briar the most. You got the wrong person. You should kidnap Briar instead. Then, you can get to him."


    She was acting out of spite, but she meant what she had said.


    In the past, she was confident that Stefan loved her the most. After so many things had happened, she was no longer as confident.


    Stefan eventually broke up with her because of Briar. It was enough to prove her position in his heart.


    "Haha! Do you really think so?" Jovan shook his head, his lips aplicated smile. He seemed to be muttering to himself or hinting at something. "Unfortunately, he can''t always do a good job. His romance is a mess. His most beloved woman doesn''t understand him. How pathetic!"


    "Stop mumbling! What do you know?" Renee snapped nervously.


    She was no fool, and she could tell the hint in his words.


    She had always felt that Stefan loved her passionately and valued their family deeply. He had no reason to fall for another woman all of a sudden. On top of that, he chose a woman he should never fall in love with.


    There must be some misunderstandings she was unaware of.


    Unfortunately, she failed to find what it was despite exhausting all means. She became dispirited and felt that she might have ttered herself too much.


    "Well, I know quite a lot." Jovan stared at her, as if trying to tempt her. He added


    meaningfully, "I know what you want to know and what you don''t know..."


    "So..." After a pause, Renee asked tentatively, "Do you know why Stefan treated me like this? What has he been through?"


    She was unsure if Jovan was teasing her or if he was aware of something.


    Regardless, she felt hopeful when Jovan said that. She hoped she could be closer to the truth.


    "I don''t know how to tell you." Jovan looked distant and solemn. "Stefan is pretty innocent in this affair. He didn''t wrong you, but he can''t be with you given his identity. There are too many obstacles between you two, so he chose to keep some distance from you. He might seem like a cowardly bastard, but he''s just trying to protect you."


    "He''s trying to protect me?"


    Renee found it bizarre.


    She sneered, "He tried to protect me by betraying me. He slept with the woman I hated the most. He wanted me to lose to that woman again."


    If that was supposed to be protection, Renee would rather kill herself instead of being


    mentally tortured.


    Jovan spread his hands. It was unknown if he was being sincere or hypocritical. "Well, I couldn''t do what he has done."


    If he faced that kind of situation, he might follow his heart and give everything up to chance. If he could lie to her forever, it would be for the best.


    Yet, Stefan hadn''t done that. He chose to leave to lessen the harm to Renee and endure the pain silently instead.
