    Chapter 0600

I didn''t want to stay under the same roof as Nichs, so I took myptop and went to sit in the courtyard.

A whileter, Nichs found me. As he approached, the cool summer breeze swirled around him, carrying it to where he sat beside me.

"Tabitha finished eating, and her little belly''s all round now," he said, a hint of pride in his tone. It was clear he was fishing for praise as if to say he could take excellent care of her.

I pretended not to hear and focused my attention on theptop screen.

"Thank you for bringing Tabitha to me. The feeling of having someone in this world connected by blood is really incredible.''

His voice was a little more dejected. "I''ve done so many wrong things in the past, and I thought I didn''t deserve to have children in this life."

    Nichs paused for a moment.

Seeing that I wasn''t going to respond, he continued, "Do you know how excited I was when I first found out Tabitha was my child? I couldn''t sleep for two days. I practically wore out the report, afraid it was fake. Those days, I couldn''t stop smiling. Just thinking about it made me grin."This is property ? of N?velDrama.Org.

I looked up at him. It was clear he was genuinely happy.

If it had been before, I would''ve been thrilled that my husband wanted to confide in me. But now, I didn''t want to be his confidante. We weren''t in that kind of rtionship anymore.

    I stayed silent.

Nichs continued on his own, "Don''t worry too much. My medical team has customized a treatment n. When things settle down next week, we''ll go to the hospital together, and we''ll start the treatment.

"The earlier we begin intervention, the more likely she''ll be just like any other normal child. No matter what, she''s my precious little one."

    "Okay."

However, I just responded indifferently. When it came to Tabitha, I definitely needed to go to the hospital with him. I couldn''t let him make all the decisions on his own.

He sighed in disappointment. I thought he might take the hint and leave. But instead, he rubbed his palms against his knees as though summoning courage.

He then asked ingratiatingly, "What are you working on?"

    "Nothing much."

"Oh, I saw some case studies," he said, his voice low. Even though I wasn''t looking at him, I could imagine how his throat moved as he spoke.

My fingers felt cold on the keyboard. I curled them slightly before letting go, and after a while, I reluctantly pressed down a punctuation mark.

I was indeed organizing some cases. Now that I had nothing to do, I wanted to write aw book and was already starting to prepare. Unfortunately, my train of thought was interrupted by him.

Nichs leaned closer, stopping at an appropriate distance. The faint scent of tobo surrounded me, pressing in like an invisible embrace.

"You''re so amazing. When I watched you in court, I felt really proud. I often think about it. You were so bright, so dazzling, and you''re my precious one too."

My heart skipped a beat. I pursed my lips and took a deep breath to suppress some inexplicable emotions. I closed myptop and stood up, saying coldly, "I''ll never step into a courtroom again."

    "Why?"

Nichs hurriedly exined, "You can do whatever you want. I''m not trying to limit your work. In fact, I''ll support you. If you need my help, anything you need, I''ll do it, as long as it''s for your good."

I turned and left without looking back.

If it weren''t for helping Pete with hiswsuit, I might not have continued practicingw when I was abroad. I wouldn''t have bounced back so quickly.

Nichs would never understand, and he didn''t need to.
