Chapter 0620
Nina
"Nina," my mother said, approaching me just as I was beginning to ascent the stairs to my room, "don''t forget you''re going to need a gown for the g."
I frowned and stopped on the stairs. "Couldn''t I just wear the one that I wore to thest party?"
My mother chuckled, linking her arm with mine. We ascended the stairs together as she began to exin. "Honey, this g is a big deal," she said. "You''re the Alpha King''s daughter. You need something special."
As we walked into my room, I let out a sigh and sat down on the edge of my bed. "How do you even know so much about this festival, mom?" I found myself asking. "I thought you were just a blind as I''ve been to all of these traditions."
My mother let out a sigh as she flung the doors of my walk-in closet open and began rifling through the racks.
"I was," she said. "But I''ve been living here with your father consistently for the past six months. I''ve learned a thing or two."
I couldn''t help butugh. "Living here," I teased. "Just admit it, mom. You and my biological dad are in love."
Her face turned a bright shade of red, but she said nothing. She pulled out an elegant ck dress and held it up to the light, then shook her head, muttering under her breath.
I didn''t want to say anything. Most of those dresses belonged to Selena, and they had been passed onto me. It felt strange wearing them, but I chose not to be vocal about it. They were just dresses, right?
Finally, I pointed out a simple red dress. "How about that one?" I asked. "That''s pretty."
My mother paused as she looked at the dress. The fabric was silky, and the silhouette would fall close to my body. Finally, she shook her head.
"No, it won''t do," she said with a sigh as she hung it back up. "It''s a bit too sexy for an event like this. A romantic dinner with your husband, maybe-"
"Mooom," I groaned, my face turning red as I buried it in my pillow.
My mother giggled. "It''s not fun, is it?" she teased. "Being put on the spot."
I shook my head in my pillow. My mother continued, "You know what? The seamstress is actually on her way to alter a few things for me. I''ll have her do a fitting for you, and she''ll have a gown ready for you by the party. Does that sound good?"
Sighing, I sat up and met my mother''s gaze. I still wasn''t used to the royal treatment like this, but I couldn''t say no to my mother. Especially not when she looked so excited. And so, nodding, I caved in. "Okay, mom. I''ll do that."
"Oh, and by the way," my mother said, her hand lingering on the doorknob, "you''re right. I am in love with your father."
"Knew it," I said with a smirk.
Hours passed, and I didn''t hear from Enzo. He seemed to be busy with my dad, though, so I let him be. Before I knew it, the seamstress had arrived anyway. A knock on the door pulled me out of the book I had been reading, and I called out, "Come in."
The door swung open, revealing my mother. A seamstress with a measuring tape draped around her neck trailed in behind her. She greeted me with a warm smile. "Good evening. I heard you might be looking for a custom dress for the g, Miss Nina."
I nodded, setting my book aside and standing from the plush armchair by the window. "I am," I said, exchanging a
look with my mom. "Although, I don''t really know what I''d want... Or what''s appropriate."
The seamstress nodded and approached me. "No worries, Miss Nina. Let me take your measurements, and we''ll have a gown tailored to perfection in no time."
"I''m thinking a nice emerald green," my mother said as the seamstress got to work. "Something to match her hair."
"Green?" I said, scrunching up my nose. "What about ck?"
"Nina," my mom sighed, "you always wear ck."
"I like ck."
Just then, Enzo came into the room without knocking. All three of us looked up; the seamstress with her measuring tape wrapped around my waist, my mother sitting on the edge of the bed, and me standing in front of the mirror with my arms out to my sides.
Enzo shot us all a confused nce. "Uh, sorry for interrupting," he said, stepping out. "I just-"
I smiled at him, grateful for his presence. "Enzo, it''s fine. Come in."
With a curt nod, Enzo stepped into the room, looking handsome in his suit. He stood there awkwardly for a moment, watching as the seamstress took my measurements.
*You look nice, Enzo," my mother said.
"Oh, thanks," Enzo said with a chuckle. "Aldric gave it to me. I was his... assistant for the day."
I was a bit shocked, but more curious than anything. The seamstress, finishing her measurements, gave me a nod and left the room. My mother followed her, shooting me a wink as she left. And then, finally, Enzo and I were alone.
"Thank god," I heaved, sinking back down into the armchair. "My mom wants me to have a custom dress for this Moon Goddess Festival g this weekend."Content is property ? N?velDrama.Org.
"Is that a problem?" Enzo asked as he began slipping his shoes off.
I shrugged. "It''s not," I said, "but it just feels like... so much. I can''t deny the fact that I feel out of ce here, away from Mountainview. And yet, at the same time, I also feel like I want to find a ce here. Like I want to fit in, to learn more about our customs."
Enzo nodded slowly as he listened. "I... understandpletely," he said with a chuckle. "I attended an Alpha Council meeting with your father, and when I told them about our pack, theyughed at me. Your father said our pack won''t be taken seriously here."
I quirked an eyebrow. "He said that?"
Enzo nodded and sank onto the bed. "Yeah."
*You want me to talk to him?" I asked, standing to meet him. I crossed over to him and he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close and burying his head in my belly.
"No, no," he assured me. "It''s nothing like that, Nina. It''s just..." He paused, sighing. "He''s right, you know? Our pack... We''re not the most seasoned, or the most aplished. We''re a bunch of newbies."
"And so what?" I asked as I ran my fingers through his curly brown hair. "It''s okay to be newbies. It doesn''t mean you deserve beingughed out of the room."
Enzo paused, and during those moments, he lifted his gaze to meet mine. He looked tired and beaten, but there was something else there, too. Something I couldn''t quite read. It puzzled me, and I cupped his face in my hands, my eyes searching his.
"What''s going on?" I murmured. "Talk to me."
"Nina," he finally said, his voice dropping to hardly more than a whisper, "I think I might hand the control of the pack over to someone else."
