"Of course I''m okay with it. I''m fine with anything as long as I''m with you, and if it''s for Grandpa,"
Jasper said with a smile.
"I feel sorry..." Alyssa wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head in his shoulders.
She said in a muffled voice, "Ben told me that Grandpa hasn''t been feeling well for a while, but I
couldn''t tell until now.
"He even got up from his wheelchair at the cemetery. Whenever I think of that, I feel horrible. How
could I have carelessly missed it?"
"It''s not your fault, Lyse. You''ve done well," Jasperforted her. "Let''s pay more attention to him in
the future. I bet he doesn''t want to stress you out. He might refuse to see you if he learns that you
know about his condition," said Jasper.
Then, he thought, "Did Landon and I have the honor to date the two kindest souls in the world? We''re
two lucky guys!"
The mood in Crescent Bay vi was gay due to Jasper and Alyssa''s presence. Alyssa performed a
checkup on Newton, after which she prepared some healthy dishes in the kitchen. On top of that, she
reminded the chef of the foods to avoid, given Newton''s health condition.
All in all, she was like a perfect granddaughter-inw.
Jasper had limited knowledge about healthy foods. Unable to offer help, he settled down beside
Newton.
Newton stared at Alyssa. He remarked, "There''s no one better than my granddaughter-inw! She''s
young, talented, caring, and listens well. She''s even a good cook!"
Then, hemented, "Sigh. I have always preferred girls over boys. Girls, if raised and nurtured well,
could take over the family business just like boys. But your grandma gave me two sons. If it weren''t for
her health, I would have wanted a daughter with her.
"If I had a daughter, I would raise her well so she''d turn out like Alice. Then, I would hand thepany
to her. As for your dad. Hmph! He should feel thankful for getting scraps."
Jasper listened quietly to Newton with an aloof expression.
Newton ranted, "What has your dad done in the years as chairman? If your Uncle Ryan hadn''t passed
on early." He suddenly inhaled sharply and ended his rant.
The look in Jasper''s eyes deepened. He always had a feeling that Newton''s dissatisfaction toward
Javier stemmed from something bigger than Javier''s decision to marry Sophia. He never seemed to
like Javier much and instead asionally expressed his affection for his younger son, Ryan.
"Jasper, it''s good that you''ve returned after having lost your way. You chose Alice instead of going
down your dad''s path. Otherwise, I will never rest in peace. I''ll roll in my grave!" joked Newton, whose
gloomy mood suddenly disappeared.
Jasper gulped. "Grandpa, I''m sorry to you. I''m more sorry to Lyse... I was—"
Newton waved and brushed it off. "Consider your old self dead. I can die happy as long as you treat her
well from now on."

Ben, who entered to serve some snacks, felt tickled by the remark. "Oh, Mr. Newton, you shouldn''t
keep bringing up death. It sounds ominous."
"I''m not superstitious. We can''t change our fate anyway. Besides, I can live another 20 years with Alice
caring for me!"
Then, Newton ced a hand on Jasper''s shoulder, as though he was passing over a heavy
responsibility. "My precious grandson, there''s more good things toe. Just putting it out here now.
The Beckett Group will belong to you and Alyssa."
Jasper felt shocked by Newton''s confession. He was about to speak when Alyssa approached them,
looking numb.
She announced, "Grandpa, Jasper, I just got the news that Sophia was executed ten minutes ago."
