His face was etched with pain.

When Cameron returned to the Dawson Estate with his wife Greta, he gazed at the once-grand estate, his eyes heavy with nostalgia and sorrow.

He could still picture his childhood, surrounded by family and friends at the estate. But now, those greeting him were either old, frail, or strangers.

Marian stepped up to exin, "Mr. Cameron you must remember these old servants. They''ve been loyal to the Dawson Estate despite their age. The others are new hires from the market, reliable too."

Cameron sighed, realizing the estate now depended on these aging individuals, a symbol of its fading glory.

He nodded, his mind shifting to thoughts of his stepmother, the one who drove his mother to despair.

"Where''s that woman?" he asked, his voice cold.

    "Follow me," Marian replied.novelbin

She led him to the basement of the Dawson Estate. The old storage room had been cleared to make space for a simple bed and wardrobe for Mrs. Dawson.

When Cameron saw his stepmother, her eyes burned with hatred. She red at him, defiant. "What are you doing here?"

"To see your downfall," Cameron said, his tone as cold as ice.

Mrs. Dawson sneered. "Watching my downfall? You don''t deserve it. Do you think you''re any better? You left Nellie, a good woman, for a jealous and spiteful mistress. You drove your own mother to her grave and made your father cut ties with you. You''re the real joke here. What right do you have tough at me?"

Fury overtook Cameron as he grabbed Mrs. Dawson by the throat. "It wasn''t me who drove my mother to her death. It was you and my father. How dare you twist the truth?"

Mrs. Dawson''s face reddened as she

gasped for air, yet her defiance

didn''t waver. She looked at Cameron with disdain. "You''re a coward. Your father betrayed your mother, and he''s the one who truly wronged her. But since you can''t face him, you take your anger out on us, the powerless. I despise you, Cameron."
