Chapter 489

Greta sobbed, "Cameron, how did we end up here? Just a while ago, watching Nathan be so good to Nathalie, I couldn''t help but feel a pang of envy. It reminded me of how things used to be when you always had my back without question." Cameron stayed silent.

After what felt like forever, he finally asked, "When you were feeling envious of Nathalie, did it ever cross your mind that I might be feeling the same about Nathan?"

Greta felt a chill run through her. "You... envy Nathan?"

Greta had always been fiercelypetitive and never considered Nathalie a real contender. To her, Nathalie was just an ordinary girl from a tough background-an orphan raised in the slums, with little education. She never saw Nathalie as a threat. For years, she looked down on Nathalie as if she were insignificant.

Little did she expect that one day, Nathalie would outshine her. Even Cameron, her own partner, seemed to hold Nathalie in higher regard now.

Greta burst out in frustration, "You should envy him. So young and already he''s tackled the Rond family''s messes. He''s even taken over Dawson International, apany that used to be your pride."

She thought she could change the subject, hoping Cameron would dodge the ufortable truth.

But when someone doesn''t love you anymore, sparing your feelings is thest thing on their mind. Cameron''s words cut through, "It''s not his achievements I envy. It''s his ability to love someonepletely, without holding back."

"And what''s even more beautiful is that she loves him back with the same intensity. Their love isn''t about what they have materially, but the depth of their connection."

Greta murmured, "We had that kind of love once."

"No, we never did," Cameron replied, his voice heavy with regret. "Or maybe I never felt that kind of love. The you I loved would never go all out to protect me like Nathalie does for Nathan."

Greta''s voice cracked with emotion, "So, you just think less of me now."

Cameron answered bluntly, "Yeah, I guess I do."

Tears welled up in Greta''s eyes. "What did I do wrong?"

Cameron replied coldly, "Do you really want to know?"

    Greta hesitated, unsure.

But Cameron didn''t hold back, words pouring out like a dam had burst, "Should I fault you for not having a beautiful face, but an ugly heart? Or for being physically weak yet living extravagantly, with vanity and selfishness..."

"Stop," Greta cried, cutting him off.

"Cameron, you just don''t love meet

anymore. It''s not about my ws. It''s because you stopped loving me that everything seems wed."

Cameron maintained his icy demeanor, "No, it''s that my love for you faded. So did the rose-colored sses. Only then could I see the real you."

Cameron took Greta to the hospital''s

orthopedic department. Unlike before, he didn''t handle everything for her. Instead, he sat fiddling with his phone, letting Greta deal with the registration, doctor visits, and prescriptions on her own.

With one leg barely functioning, Greta was worn out.

When she returned to Cameron, her eyes were rimmed with red.

Cameron acted like he didn''t notice. "Let''s go."

With nowhere else to turn, Greta and Cameron went back to the Dawson family home.

That night, Cameron grabbed a nket and headed to the guest room. "I''ll be staying here from now on."

Greta felt her heart freeze over. She didn''t try to stop him, but the tears wouldn''t stop falling.
