Yvonne returned to the utility room. As soon as she stepped through the door, she felt someone grab her arm.
Suddenly, a warm, muscr body pressed against her. Yvonne trembled as they locked eyes. She was immediately captivated by the man''s sharp gaze.
She had always lived in darkness, but she felt like his eyes were a ray of sunlight.
"Ms. Smith, did you forget something when you left earlier?" Drew teased.
"What..." Yvonne clung to the wall, her chest heaving.
Drew smirked, his nose brushed against hers, gentle and yful. He whispered, "You forgot to take my heart."
Yvonne''s expression cleared, and she burst intoughter.
"Tsk, what''s so funny?" Drew raised an eyebrow.
"Young Master Drew, you''ve never had a serious girlfriend before, am I right? Most girls wouldn''t be able to stand such a corny joke." Yvonne covered her mouth and giggled uncontrobly.
He pouted and clicked his tongue. "It''s so romantic!"
“A funny pickup line is just a joke.” Before Yvonne could finish speaking, she saw her silver ne being dangled in front of her.
"My ne! Give it back to me!" Yvonne touched her neck in panic. She did not realize it had fallen off.
She reached out to grab it, but Drew held it high out of her reach. She stood on her tiptoes, desperate to reach it.
"The pretty girl in the locket... Who is she?"
"Just a friend!"
Yvonne flushed red, jumping for the ne.
"Do you have friends? Even if you wanted to, would Mr. Iverson allow that?" Drew replied skeptically.
"My sister. That''s my sister!" Yvonne''s voice hitched, embarrassed to have been caught in a lie. This text is ? N?velDrama/.Org.
"You just told me earlier that you''re
an orphan. How would you have a sister?" Drew''s expression darkened. His grip tightened around the locket. "If you won''t tell the truth, Ms. Smith, I''ll just have to keep this and return it next time we meet."
Yvonne was on the verge of tears and desperately blurted out. "It''s me!”
Drew stared at her, his gaze intense and heavy.
"The person in the photo is me. It''s a photo from when I was 20 years old, before I became Be. It''s the only photo I have left of myself."
Yvonne''s heart weighed heavily, and
her throat choked up as she tried to speak. "After my stic surgery, Mr. Iverson destroyed all my old photos. I managed to secretly keep this one... That''s all I have left. If I lose it, I''m afraid I''ll forget my own appearance one day. If that happens, no one will remember that Yvonne ever existed in this world. I would be no different from a walking corpse."
She yed the role of Be by Christopher''s side and followed all the rules. Yet she yearned every day to be herself again.
"So... please, give it back to me." As she spoke, silent tears traced a path down her face, falling heavy on Drew''s heart.
He gently took her hand and ced the locket in her palm.
By the time they left the orphanage, night had fallen. Drew hadn''t
expected Yvonne to stay there the
e
entire day. She, in turn, hadn''t expected him to apany her all day.
"I''m going to head back now. Goodbye."
"Yvonne."
She turned around slowly, and her eyes widened in surprise.
A small cluster of flowers shone brilliantly from a sparkler lit in Drew''s hand. The sparks danced like fairies in the night.
He smiled back at her as he traced beautiful patterns into the air.
