Mr. Donny stumbled over his words on the phone as he recounted the day’s events, then stuttered, “Mr.
Burke, I truly had no idea Mrs. Burke would be interning at ourpany. I had no choice but to let Ms.
Nichole go, Mr. Burke…”
“Letting her go is for the best. She never had thepetence to join Palm’s Jewels anyway.”
James had no interest in discussing Nichole.
Mr. Donny was taken aback. Wasn’t Nichole James‘ lover? James seemed ruthlessly indifferent, not
bothering to inquire about her at all. “Of course, Mr. Burke, rest assured, I will take good care of your
wife! I absolutely won’t let her face any hardships at thepany!”
James, growing impatient, didn’t respond to Mr. Donny and hung up the phone.
Colt remarked, “Mr. Burke, if Ms. Nichole can’t find another internship position immediately, her
thesis…”

“If shecks the ability to handle it, then she was a waste of all the years I’ve invested in her
development.” James coldly stated, “Don’t mention Nichole to me again. She and I are done.”
“Yes, Mr. Burke.”

That afternoon, Sophie received a call from Tricia. As Sophie poured herself some tea, she asked,
“What’s up?”
“This afternoon, severalpanies within S Corporation received resumes from the same person.”
“Who?”
“Nichole.”
Sophie couldn’t help butugh.
Nichole had just been let go and was already looking for the next opportunity. She probably feared that
this internship fallout would jeopardize the hard–earned graduate position she got through James.
“What position does she want?” Sophie inquired.
“The position of Assistant General Manager.”
Tricia found Nichole quite amusing, too. She was simply an intern who hadn’t even graduated yet and
dared to aim for the position of Assistant General Manager directly.
“Whichpanies did she apply to?”
“Mostly smaller ones. Some under Russell Enterprises, others under S Corporation, and a few are
businesses owned by Mr. Adler and Ms. Jenna.”
Sophie understood the situation.
No matter what, Russell Enterprises‘ subsidiaries in the industry could easily number in the hundreds.
Even if they were smallpanies, and not explicitly under Russell Enterprises, they were indeed
acquired by Russell Enterprises and were all well–known, establishedpanies.
Nichole probably didn’t know this; otherwise, she would have avoided working for Russell Enterprises
at all costs.
Sophie had established and developed S Corporation’s most recentpanies, offering better
conditions. Without James chole seeking a higher sry to make a living was a decent choice.
a rather clever calction.
As for Adler and Jenna, both were industry leaders, withpanies no less numerous than those of
the Russell family.
Moreover, Nichole might have calcted that as a graduate student, she couldnd a decent position
Nichole probably thought that among all thepanies in Devonport, there would be one not
connected to Sophie. However, she didn’t realize that Devonport, being only sorge, had hundreds of
businesses crammed together. Those that stood out were few, often coborating or under the same
corporate umbre.
This time, Nichole had really put herself in the line of fire.
“Send me Nichole’s resumeter.”
“Ms. Sophie, are you considering taking Nichole on board?
