James said, “Get in the car.”
Sophie took the passenger seat, but James didn’t start the car right away. Instead, he remained silent
for a moment before saying, “Bea is just afraid you’re not serious about me.”
“I know.”
Sophie wasn’t naive. The Devins family was, after all, of modest means. With Bea’s high standards,
how could she possibly approve of
James and Ca?

Bea merely thought Sophie had been disobedienttely, so she used Ca to provoke her.
The Devins family still relied on the Burkes for financial gain and naturally hoped to send their daughter
over.
“If you don’t like her, I’ll find a way to send her away.”
“Without Ca, there will be others like Lily, Zoe and Harper.” Sophie’s tone was indifferent. “In any
case, she poses no threat to me. I’m not afraid to keep her around.”
James pursed his lips. He reached out to fasten Sophie’s seatbelt, clearly feeling her instinctive attempt
to dodge. He paused, then became even more careful.
“You’re very afraid of me.”
“Not at all.” Sophie’s reply was brisk.
“Why are you avoiding me?”
It was the same this morning. He really couldn’t understand what he had done to suddenly make
Sophie so afraid of being in contact with him.
Sophie frowned. “You’re overthinking it. I’m just not used to this, that’s all.”
“It’s okay. I’ll give you time to get used to it.”
As James drove the car, Sophie noticed they weren’t on the road to Burke International. She asked
btedly, “Where are we going?”
I’m taking you shopping.”
“James, do you know the situation right now? And you are taking me shopping instead of dealing with
things at Burke International?”
Sophie thought she had misheard.
Recently, S Corporation put unprecedented pressure on Burke International. James shouldn’t have had
the time toe out at all. Just then, James‘ phone rang in the car. The caller ID showed it was Colt.
James hung up the call.
After a while, Colt called again. This time, James turned his/phone off.
Seeing this, Sophie said coldly, “Pull over.”
“What?”
Sophie repeated, “Pull over to the side.”
James was silent, but this time, he pulled the car over.
Sophie said, “If you have work, then go back to work. I don’t need you to take me shopping.”
“I only have three months left and don’t want to waste it.” James gazed at Sophie, his eyes filled with a
depth of emotion she had never seen before, devoid of any pretense.
Sophie snapped back to reality. “Even if you don’t want to waste time, you should still prioritize…”
Before Sophie could finish, James suddenly reached out to cradle her face.
