"Not a chance. Borrowed!"
Odie couldn''t believe the audacity. It was the first time he''d seen someone demand help with such self-righteousness. Did he owe her something?
"You need help? Ask Colby. I''m not your guy," Odie shot back.
He spun on his heel and started towards the door, counting ten steps before noticing Sophie''s reaction orck thereof. She wasn''t flustered, didn''t back down, and didn''t call after him.
Did she not know how to ask for a favor properly?
Suppressing his annoyance, Odie stopped, turned back, and grumbled, "Fine, I owe you. I''ll get you the help."
Sophie''s smile was warm and grateful. "Thank you, Mr. Odie."
Odie felt a mix of emotions-partly feeling yed, partly feeling that his own soft-heartedness had given her the upper hand. Watching Sophie head back to the Minton family''s living room in high spirits, he couldn''t shake off the unease. Just then, Jonah emerged from the shadows. "Boss..."
Odie, caught off guard, snapped, "When did you get here?"
"I''ve been here all along."
"Fine. Go get some people ready for Sophie and find out where that dinner is being held. Make sure our people keep a close eye on the ce, especially the manager. I don''t want any shady characters slipping in." Jonah nodded. "We''ve already looked into the dinner venue and hit a snag."
"What snag?"
"The brand''s designer proposed a ''Mysterious Lady'' theme. Every socialite attending has to wear a blindfold before getting into their cars, and the location is undisclosed. We can''t set up in advance."
"What kind of game is this?" Odie frowned, his voice icy. "There''s nothing in Summerfield the Minton family can''t uncover. Check every hotel in the city center. Do I really have to spell it out?"
"Yes, boss."
Jonah hesitated. "There''s another thing..."
"Spit it out."
"The Spellman family sent someone today. Mr. Donny wants to have dinner with you tonight to show his gratitude."This text is property of N?/velD/rama.Org.
Jonah handed over a bank card. "He
said it''s an honor for his son to be
under your wing and hopes you''ll ept this gift. He also wants to
discuss a potential cob
е
Odie took the card. "How much?"
Jonah held up eight fingers.
"Eighty million?"
Jonah nodded. "Eighty million, pluspensation for that car his son damaged. All personal transactions, showing their sincerity."
"The Spellman family''s got some clout in Summerfield, but they''re not quite on my level for partnerships."
With a cold expression, Odie tossed
the card back to Jonah. As he tumed to leave, he recalled Sophie mentioning Timothy''s issues. This could mean the Spellman family had some skeletons in their closet too.
Odie stopped abruptly. Jonah asked, "Boss?"
"Even though the Spellman family isn''t partnership material, a dinner wouldn''t hurt."
Jonah frowned. Their boss usually despised social engagements, especially meals with outsiders.
