When Sophie blinked her eyes open again, everything around her was a blur. She could just about make out someone sprinting towards her with determination. "Call an ambnce! Hurry!"
"Separate Gordon and Sophie! Stretcher, now!"
The voices around her started to fade into a distant hum. Cindy''s chatter buzzed incessantly in her ears.
Before she knew it, Sophie was wrapped in a warm embrace. The faint scent of tobo clung to him, and suddenly, Sophie felt a wave of calm wash over her. In a soft voice, she murmured, "Colby... I realized today, it''s lucky I''m me. Otherwise, I might never have seen you again."
"Don''t talk nonsense," Colby replied, holding her tight. "You''re not going anywhere. If you keep talking like that, I swear you won''t see me when you wake up." She could feel his heartbeat quickening, his anxiety and fear pouring over her in that moment.
"I don''t want... to never see you again," Sophie whispered weakly.
Colby, with urgency, whisked her outside to the Burke Estate and gentlyid her onto the stretcher. The evening was drawing close, painting the sky with dusk.
He climbed into the ambnce with her, the beauty of the sunset catching his eye. After all those nights spent stargazing, he realized how stunning a sunset could be. Was it really over?
Sophie''s breathing hitched, her heart racing faster than usual. Inside the ambnce, William was working frantically to stabilize her.
"She''s lost too much blood! We need A-negative blood from the bank, pronto!" he shouted into his phone.
The sounds around her drifted further away, then closer again, as Sophie slipped into unconsciousness. "Don''t be scared, you''ll be alright. I''m right here," Colby''s voice echoed in her mind.
Back at the Burke Estate, James watched Joseph, who seemed to have lost his sanity, desperately searching for Ruby, like a man lost in his own world.
But Ruby was long gone, and Joseph''s mind was trapped in a world devoid of her, never to awaken.
James approached Joseph, who no longer recognized him, muttering ''Rose, Rose'' to himself.
"If you really want to find Ruby, maybe there''s a better way," James said with a hint of indifference. Joseph paused.
