Upon hearing this, Sophie was momentarily at a loss for words. Odie''s smarts seemed to swing like a pendulum. Sometimes, Sophie thought Odie was sharp as a tack, while other times, she figured he was just faking it. Colby seemed to have nailed it. Odie''s long-standing dominance in Summerfield had a fair bit of luck sprinkled in.
Sophie remarked, "When you first ran into trouble, the Mintons put Harold in charge. But as it turns out, Harold was on our side. After Joseph''s death, Harold passed the baton to you. But then, bam, The Silent Shadows snatched you up, and Summerfield turned into a whirlwind. At first nce, the Spellman family seemed to be having a field day, but oddly enough, the Gibbs family-who should''ve been right in the middle of it-didn''t even get a scratch. Doesn''t that strike you as weird?"
"Now that you mention it, it does add up," Odie admitted, leaning back against the headboard, lost in thought for a moment. "But the Gibbs family has always been a heavyweight in Summerfield."
"The Silent Shadows are masters at siphoning off big businesses to fuel their crew. Given how much clout the Gibbs family has, there''s no way The Silent Shadows would pass up that kind of opportunity."N?velDrama.Org owns all ? content.
Sophie continued, "I remember when
Colby and I came to Summerfield to
find you, we asked Kena to dig up some dirt on The Silent Shadows. She did hand over some juicy secrets from the Gibbs family, butter on, we realized the info was cherry-picked, and despite all the resources we threw at it, we couldn''t find a single useful lead. The Minton family couldn''t shake off The Silent Shadows, and the Gibbs family, a staple in Summerfield for nearly a century, couldn''t possibly be
untouched either. And then there''s what you said about Daniel''s death-him being tangled up with The Silent Shadows. Hisst words about not being able to mess with the folks pulling the strings hinted he was in the know."
"Is that when Kena first popped up on your radar?" Odie asked.
"My real doubts kicked in when Jenna pointed out that there was nothing about The Silent Shadows in the info," Sophie replied, shaking her head. "But if you look closer, you can see the cracks. Kena''s been working in your house for ages, and you never once thought about getting rid of her. Out of all the Gibbs family''s illegitimate daughters, you zeroed in on her. From the first time we were kidnapped, surviving alongside her made me trust her. Herter betrayal seemed to have reasons behind it, as she kept feeding me nuggets about Summerfield, sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. She started by iming to be Daniel''s daughter, tugging at my heartstrings, and ended up killing Daniel herself. Because of my influence and her own background, you turned the Gibbs family over to Kena. It all looked like a wellid n, but each move seemed natural, ying right into human nature."
Sophie took a long time to suspect Kena, which showed just how crafty her opposition was.
If The Silent Shadows hadn''t gotten too greedy and slipped up in keeping their cover, Sophie might never have suspected Kena.
As Sophie fell into silence, Odie
suddenly threw back the covers, ready to get out of bed. Jonah was taken aback and swiftly moved to help Odie.
