petrified.
Sophie moved with lightning speed, smoothly sliding a bullet into the chamber before pointing the gun right at Robert''s forehead. Her actions were so fluid that they instantly cranked up the tension in the room. Poor Robert, already a nervous wreck, was now utterly "Speak up already! Quick!" Sophie''s voice was sharp, slicing through the air like a knife. Robert''s fear was almost tangible.
Sophie''s demeanor wasn''t just for show, and after what seemed like an eternity, Spencer finally cracked. "Sophie, it was me trying to pull the wool over your eyes, not him! If you''re going to kill someone, let it be me!" he shouted, desperation evident in his voice.
"Do you think I''m clueless? You don''t value your life, so don''t worry. If you keep quiet, once I''m done with Robert, you''re next on the list. I''ll send you both packing!" Sophie''s threat was cold and clear. "Spencer! I don''t want to die!" Robert''s voice was a whimper, his terror painfully obvious.Content from N?velDr(a)ma.Org.
Realizing Sophie meant business, Spencer shut his eyes tight and confessed, "All she asked was for me to take out Uncle Jack, iming you''d definitely show up tonight. That''s the whole story!"
As Spencer spilled the beans, Sophie''s brow furrowed. What was Kena''s angle in wanting Elliott dead? What would she gain from it?
While Sophie was lost in thought, the doors of the Minton family mansion suddenly burst open. In rushed a wave of cops, guns drawn, aiming at everyone in sight.
"Freeze!" barked an officer, signaling Sophie and the bodyguards to surrender. In that moment, it all clicked for Sophie-Kena''s trap had been sprung.
"Sophie! You''re under suspicion of murder and kidnapping. Pleasee with us," an officer dered.
Without a fuss, Sophie tossed her gun to an Aldridge family bodyguard nearby.
"Ms. Sophie..." the bodyguard began, concern etched on his face. "Should we let anyone know..."
"No," Sophie cut him off sharply. "Take your team and get out of here, they''re after me."
Sophie had no intention of resisting, but the bodyguard persisted, "Ms. Sophie, Mr. Aldridge charged us with keeping you safe."
"And he also instructed you to follow my lead. Head back to Devonport, no questions asked!" Sophie insisted.
"... Yes, Ms. Sophie." The bodyguard finally relented.
The Chief of Police from Summerfield had arrived, sporting a sickly sweet smile. "Ms. Sophie, let''s not make this difficult. Shall we?"
"I''m the one suspected of murder. I want my people to leave; that shouldn''t be a problem, right?"
"Of course not. Everyone else can
go, but you, Ms. Sophie, have to stay. Otherwise, we''ll have to take... other measures," the Chief replied, his tone a blend of threat and persuasion.
Back in the day, when Odie ran the show in Summerfield, this old weasel wouldn''t dare make a peep. But with power shifting, he was quick to cozy up to The Silent Shadows. en
"Alright, I''ll go with you," Sophie agreed, raising her hands. "Do you need to cuff me?"
"No, no, that''s not necessary. I trust Ms. Sophie won''t be slipping away. The prisons here in Summerfield aren''t like those in
Devonport-they''re fortified to th
hilt. Nobody''s getting in, and nobody''s getting out." The Chief''s words were meant to reassure, but they felt more like a warning.
