Chapter 238

Selena found herself lost in his deep, dark eyes, feeling her heart flutter wildly. A soft blush crept onto her cheeks as she nodded. "I didn''t mean anything by it. I just want you to be happy." The young man offered a slight, almost shy smile, "I am happy, thank you."

"If we ever cross paths again, I''ll remember you."

Pushing past her shyness, Selena met his gaze with determination and sincerity, "I''m Selena."

Butter, when she became his wife, the warmth in his eyes had turned cold. It was like he''d forgotten herpletely. His heart and mind were consumed by Margot.

She had waited and hoped for so long. He had been the hero of her dreams when her heart first began to stir. How could shee to terms with such disappointment?

When Everett whispered to her about redoing their wedding ceremony, she couldn''t help but feel a surge of joy.

She thought, maybe just maybe they might stumble into growing old together.

Selena picked up her phone again, took a deep breath, and sent him a message anyway.

[Everett,e to the bridal shop when you''re done. I''ll be waiting.]

Everett had promised he''d be back, and this time, she chose to believe him.

As long as he returned, she wouldn''t mind if he''d been with Margot or not.

Time passed slowly. The tea on the coffee table cooled and was reced, only to cool again, as the evening wore on.

The staff couldn''t resist whispering among themselves.Property ? of N?velDrama.Org.

With so many of their clients being from high society, they had heard plenty of gossip. Rumor had it that Mrs. Bet wasn''t favored, that Mr. Everett had someone else in his heart. Unfortunately, Josh''s disapproval had stopped Everett from marrying her. Otherwise, he wouldn''t have married Selena.

They had seen the couple all lovey-dovey in the morning and thought the rumors were false. But now, it seemed they might be true after all.

Otherwise, why would Mr. Everett abandon his bride in the middle of trying on wedding dresses and note back?

    The manager overheard and sternly

reminded them to keep their thoughts to themselves. Mr. Everett

and Mrs. Bet were important clients, and regardless of the messy emotions in high society, what mattered most was their business.

Selena noticed their whispers and the pitying looks they threw her way. Her hands clenched tighter with each passing moment.

It felt like her message had vanished into thin air, with no reply, and Everett was nowhere to be seen.

Then, suddenly, the sky was split by terrifying lightning, followed by the roar of thunder.

The manager approached gently, "Mrs. Bet, it looks like it''s about to pour, and it''s gettingte. We''re about to close. Mr. Everett is probably tied up. Do you want to head out?"

His words were meant to be kind, to protect Selena''s dignity.

Selena nced at the clock on the wall. It was ten o''clock.

She knew she was probably in for another night of waiting in vain for Everett to return.

"Alright," Selena said softly, rising to her feet and gathering her things before stepping out.

As soon as she exited, the heavens opened up, the sky turned dark and heavy as if it were crying.

Catching a cabin the pouring rain was tough. Selena braved the downpour, running a short distance before finally gging one down. By the time she reached the vi, she was drenched, her clothes sticking ufortably to her skin.

Ava was already asleep, so she didn''t disturb her. She went upstairs, changed out of her wet clothes, took a warm shower, and was about to make some ginger tea to warm herself up when her phone pinged unexpectedly.

    Could it be Everett?

Without hesitation, Selena reached for her phone on the bedside table and lit up the screen.

What she saw made her heart skip a beat and her eyes widen with shock.
