Chapter 478

Jane scanned the room and saw that no one had any objections. She chuckled and dered, "Since everyone''s cool with it, let''s get started with exchanging the chips!"

As Jane spoke, she took out a small box filled with chips of different colors. Sebastian pulled out his phone and transferred the money to Jane.

    "Just the usual."

Smiling, Jane set down two stacks of chips in front of Sebastian. "Let''s get into it and have a st. You''ve got to stop losing today."

With a cigarette between his lips, Sebastian caught the chips and casually tossed them in front of him. "It was just a string of bad luck before. It wasn''t because I didn''t know what I was doing."

Jane giggled as she shook her head. "Alright. I get it. It''s just back luck."

After finishing her sentence, Jane brought the box to the chubby middle-aged man. "How much are you looking at, Caleb?"

Caleb Murphy sported a nonchnt expression and muttered, "200 thousand dors."

200 thousand dors? Matthew clicked his tongue. "Didn''t you say we start at 100 dors?"

Caleb nced at Matthew and scoffed. "100 dors are just for warm-up. If you can''t handle it, you''d better switch tables."

Matthew smacked his lips. He knew a few tricks for ckjack but had never put them into practice. The key point was that Matthew wasn''t into gambling. He felt that even 100 dors per round was pushing it. Nevertheless, Matthew was totally unfazed by Caleb''s snide remarks at the table.

Jane nced at Matthew, and a hint of disappointment crossed her face. Then, she smiled and approached the burly man.

"How much do you want to exchange for chips, Dwight?"

Dwight Keller held up three fingers. "300 thousand dors."

Jane took out 300 thousand dors worth of chips. Then, she came over to Matthew. "How much do you want?"

Matthew mused for a moment before putting up one finger. "Give me a small sum. If it''s not enough, I''ll get more from youter."

Jane''s smiling expression froze, but she still forced a smile. "So, you''re thinking about 10 thousand dors, right? I hope you win so much that you don''t spend it all.''

As Jane was talking, she reached for the chips, but Matthew raised his hand to stop her and corrected her.

"I''m asking for 1,000 dors worth of chips."

Jane paused with her hand in mid-air. Her expression was filled with disbelief. "You''re only going for 1,000 dors?"

At this point, Jane wished she hadn''t put Matthew in this room. When they first met, Jane thought higher of Matthew because of Renae.

Renae was stunning and had a certain grace about her. Plus, she willingly stayed by Matthew''s side in a well-behaved manner. That made Jane assume that Matthew was rich.

Pretty women might not have always made the best choices in husbands, but they sure excelled at finding a wealthy man. Jane never thought she''d get it wrong this time.

Matthew chuckled and responded, "Yes. I''ll take 1,000 dors in chips. If I need extra, I''lle back for more."

Dwight nced at Matthew nonchntly. "This isn''t the card game you y with old folks. Have you ever been to a card room before? If you''re broke, quit making a fool out of yourself."

Matthew scowled. He''d only nned to build a rapport with Sebastian, but now he decided otherwise and coldly warned, "Mind your own business. 1,000 dors worth of chips is enough for me."

There was a reason Matthew came off so confident. During his time in prison, he treated a prison buddy named Darrell Hope. As a token of appreciation, Darrell taught m tricks for ying cards.

Darrell imed his technique had been passed down for nearly a century. He boasted that he had

traveled everywhere and had never tasted defeat.

Darrell went so far as to say that if Matthew dedicated a year to learning just a third of what Darrell knew, Matthew would be unbeatable.

Matthew was a little skeptical about

it but gave it a shot for a month. To his surprise, he ended up winning Darrell in just that time. Darell imed that Matthew was exceptionally talented.

But Matthew didn''t take it seriously because he wasn''t into gambling. After getting out of prison, he never went to a casino. He was close to forgetting he had those tricks up his sleeve.

Facing the mockery now, Matthew decided to teach Dwight a lesson.

How was it enough? Dwight sneered. "How naive. This is the real deal, not some game you y outside. "1,000 dors will vanish in an instant. You should hurry up and leave before you start crying about your losses.

Matthew ignored Dwight and turned back to Jane. "If I lose, I''ll just get more chips."

Jane prided herself on being friendly and hospitable. She didn''t want to kick Matthew out, so she amiably responded, "Alright. Let''s y a few rounds. If you''re not used to it, we still have a wide selection of games outside."

After Jane spoke up, Dwight didn''t say another word.

The first round started. After everyone had their cards, Sebastian knitted his brows at his hand and lit a

cigarette. From the looks of it, the cards weren''t great.

Caleb looked at his cards and put them on the table. He then leaned back in his seat and looked at Matthew.

cing down his cards, Dwight casually yed with one of them and fixed his gaze on Matthew. His eyes were filled with contempt and disdain.
