I woke up in the morning as, surprisingly, my room felt blazing hot. I remember quite well that I had switched on my A/C last night before I went to sleep. After I was completely awake, I glanced up at the A/C and was shocked to see that it was switched off. Well, even if the A/C was switched off, it wouldn''t be so hot. It felt like I was inside an oven (Not that I know how it feels to be inside an oven). Just then I noticed that my window was open and a red bird was sitting on the window sill. At right that moment, the bird flew away. But I didn''t have time for red flying away birds right now.
I wasn''t able to think straight. The only thing that came to my mind was, ''Open the bedroom door''. I didn''t know how opening my room door would do the trick, but that was the best I could think of. I jumped out of bed and dashed to my room door and threw it open. Suddenly the heat died away and my room was back to its normal temperature.
Just then my mum''s voice called from downstairs, ''Moonstone, honey, wake up. Breakfast will be ready in half-an-hour''.
''Yes, mum,'' I answered.
Oh, forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Moonstone Evelyn and I am twelve years old. It''s a pleasure to meet you.
I quickly freshened up and ran downstairs. My mum had set up pancakes for all of us. My dad was sitting there reading todays newspaper.
''Good morning, dad,'' I said.
''Good morning, Moon,'' my dad said looking above his paper.
I looked around the table.
''Where''s, Chrissie?'' I asked.
''Oh, she''ll be down in a few minutes,'' dad said.
Chrisalis Evelyn is my younger sister. She is ten seconds younger to me and most people call her, Chrissie.
''Good morning,'' a voice said.
I turned around and came face to face with my sister.
''Hey, sis. How ya doing?'' She said.
''Just fine, little sis. What about you?'' I said.
''Good,'' she said glancing at the table. ''Ooo, I love pancakes.''
Just then my mum came from the kitchen carrying a pot of honey and a honey dipper.
''''Morning, mum,'' me and my sister said unison.
''Good morning,'' my mum said.'' Now that we''re all here, let''s have breakfast.'' She said tapping the pot of honey with the honey dipper.
After breakfast I and Chrissie got ready for as we were going to the aquarium with Nick. Nicholas Jonas is my best friend and he was a few months older than me and Chrissie.
We thought we would be on time but to our surprise we were late. Not actually late, but we would be if we didn''t get out of the house in ten minutes. We ran downstairs. I was in blue jeans, a white top and my favorite pink jacket. My long and wavy, dark blue hair was tied in a ponytail. I put on my pink shoes and followed Chrissie outside the front door. We had five minutes to spare. If we hurried we would be on time to meet Nick by the aquarium.Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.
We unlocked our cycles and mounted them. We peddled as fast as we could. By the time the aquarium came into view, my legs were killing me. Peddling fast and hard is not easy. I saw Nick standing by the front gate waving at us. Nick was a handsome and cheerful young man with bright blue eyes and dark hair.
We waved back and cycled to where he was standing.
''Hola, Nick,'' I said smiling.
''Hi,'' he said to us.
''Hello,'' Chrissie said.
Me and Chrissie parked our cycles and locked it. Then we entered the aquarium together with Nick.
The aquarium was beautiful. We walked to the reception and registered. Then we started around the aquarium.
An hour later we had finished our tour around the aquarium. We said goodbye to Nick at the front gate and parted ways. We had promised to meet at the evening. As it was the last week of our end-of-term holidays, we wanted to spend almost all our free time doing fun stuff. This evening we were going to explore the Haunted House. At least, what people called the Haunted House? Few of our classmates (oh, and by the way, Me, Chrissie and Nick are in the same class) said that they saw ghosts and heard voices coming from the abandoned house near our school. Because of this, we assumed that it was a Haunted House.
Evening came sooner than expected. I and Chrissie left the house at four o''clock. But this time we left on foot and not on cycles, as it was not a very long way to the Haunted House. After a while, we reached Nick''s house and we just saw him close his front door, ready to leave.
''Hey, Nick,'' I called aloud. He turned and once he saw us, he waved.
''Hi,'' Nick said.
I and Chrissie started running to where he was standing. But''s that when something terrible happened. I heard a loud ''THUD'' and turned. It was exactly what I expected but it was not good. Chrissie was lying on the ground, her eyes shining with tears.
''Oh, no.'' I whispered kneeling down near her. Nick had come running towards us.
''This ain''t good,'' Nick muttered also kneeling down. ''Are you okay?''
''No, she isn''t,'' I said.
''No, I''m not,'' she said. ''I think sprained my ankle.''
''Let''s get her inside,'' Nick said.
''Can you get up?'' I asked.
''I think so,'' she said trying to get up. She had managed to get up. I took her hand and put it around my shoulder, supporting her. Nick ran to his house and threw the front door open and rushed in. I supported her into Nick''s house. Once we got inside the house, we went to the sofa and Chrissie lay down there. Nick''s mom had come running from the kitchen, closely followed by Nick. Mrs. Jones is a kind lady with fair skin, long dark hair and blue eyes. Nick is a lot like her.
''Oh, Chrissie,'' she gasped, ''what happened?''
''Sprained ankle, I think,'' Chrissie replied.
''Oh dear,'' Mrs. Jonas whispered. ''We need to call a doctor.''
''Yeah,'' I said. ''Can you hold on for a few more minutes, Chrissie?
''Yeah,'' Chrissie winced. ''I think.''
Mrs. Jonas pulled out her phone and contacted their family doctor. A few minutes later the doorbell rang and Nick answered it. It was the doctor. After looking at Chrissie''s leg, he said that she did sprain her ankle. He said she had to rest for a few weeks until her leg was better and left. Chrissie felt much better now that the doctor had tied her leg tightly with a crepe bandage. I sat down on a chair next to her, so did Nick.
''I think we''ve got to postpone the exploration of The Haunted House for later, because of someone''s clumsiness,'' I said.
''No offense,'' I added at once.
Chrissie laughed. ''None taken,'' she said. ''And there is no way you are going to postpone the exploration,'' she added.
''But you can''t go anywhere now that you''ve sprained your ankle,'' Nick pointed out.
''That is why you both have to go alone,'' Chrissie said.
''Why would we go without you?'' I and Nick said together.
''Because I have a hunch that we will not get another chance to explore The Haunted House,'' Chrissie said.
''What do you mean?'' Nick asked.
''No idea,'' Chrissie replied. ''But you''re still going.''
I sighed. ''Fine,'' I muttered. ''You''re one stubborn sister.
''Of course I am,'' she said. ''Now, I may not be coming, but you are gonna tell me what happens.''
''Don''t worry, we will,'' Nick assured her.
