Chapter 21

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">To be fair, Logan wasn’t rted to me. It was good enough that he had already done this much for me. Perhaps he only helped me for my family’s and brother’s sake.</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">With those thoughts in my mind, I shook off my unrealistic hopes.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">The check–up results came out decent, and I showed signs of slightly reduced swelling in my brain. As for why I vomitedst night, it was due to my post–concussion syndrome.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I picked up the health report and no longer felt a weight on my shoulders. I was still young, after all. I didn’t want to die this soon.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I didn’t know what gave me the impulse to jump off a building before I’d lost my memory. But if I could do it again, I would drag that scummy Elijah down with me!</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">“The doctor says you’re fine, so why are you causing such a fuss, Ariana?” Elijah’s dreaded voice that gued me rang out again.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I frowned when I saw him. He approached me with broad strides, and chills tingled my scalp as ! instinctively hid behind Frank.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Frank defensively stood before me with the utmost dissatisfaction. He said, “Mr. Linden, the doctor says Ms. York is fine for now. But he didn’t say that she’spletely healthy. So, please refrain from triggering her any further.”</font></font>Belonging ?     <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah sneered. “I admit you’ve gotten quite far with your temper tantrum this time, Ariana. Jocelyn ns. on leaving now, so you must be pleased.”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Jocelyn? Jocelyn, again?</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">My expression soured. “What does her leaving have to do with me? Quit ming me for everything, Elijah! I won’t take the me for this.”</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah snorted. “Didn’t you aim to force her away? You’ve achieved your goal now, so shouldn’t you be happy?”</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">That infuriated me, and I scoffed. “Is this even the first time Jocelyn’s leaving you? If she truly loved you,</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">wouldn’t have left you back then.”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Upon hearing this, Elijah stiffened from head to toe.</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Surprisingly, he didn’t refute me with his silver tongue.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I hated saying things without having or knowing the full picture. But even so, I couldn’t stand seeing Elijah act like a know–it–all when, in reality, he had a concerning intelligence level too.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I didn’t recall why Jocelyn left Elijah in the past. Yet, ording to what Teri described, Jocelyn could have married Elijah if she wanted to. But Jocelyn determinedly chose to further her studies abroad.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Anyone with good judgment would know Jocelyn valued her studies and future in her heart. Elijah could neverpare to those things. After all, who would break up with someone they loved deeply over being long–distance?</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">There was a saying that love would prevail despite whatever obstacles stood in the way.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">In that case, it could ultimately mean that couples who break up just don’t love each other enough.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah was dumbstruck by my words. He stood frozen and unable to say a word.</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I tugged at Frank’s arm. “We can leave now.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Frank shot the dazed Elijah a nce before coldly stating, “Please let us through, Mr. Linden.”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">d Eh s</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Only then out of his daze. His gaze darkened as he blocked our path. “You can’t go, Ariana.”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I suppressed my rage and asked, “What do you want?”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">“Come home with me,” he instructed. It wasn’t a request, but instead, amand.</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Still, I sneered. “I won’t return with you.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah scoffed like he had heard a joke. “I won’t hold it against you because I know you’re still upset. I’ll give you three days. You have three days to be a good girl ande home.”</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I questioned, “What will I do after I go home? Be the wife you loathe? Then, are we going to argue and make a joke of ourselves in front of others every day?”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah was stumped by my words again.</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">After what felt like ages, he forced himself to say, “We don’t have to fight. As long as you stop your tantrum, we can still-”</font></font>

<font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">I sneered. “Still what? Still be a loving couple in the eyes of others? Let me make this clear to you, Elijah–i refuse to be your wife. I’m unqualified to, I’m tired, and I’ve given up. Alright?”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">Elijah’s expression turned a ghastly, pale shade. “Ariana…”</font></font>

    <font style="vertical-align: inherit;"><font style="vertical-align: inherit;">At that point, I didn’t want to waste my breath on him anymore.</font></font>
