Chapter 30
Although his consciousness had just returned, and his head was a bit foggy, Yi Chen was still fairly aware of his surroundings and naturally noticed the arrival of Chambein, this high-ranking gentleman. Chambein pressed close to examine Yi Chen carefully, while all the people present, including the examiners and clergy, focused their gaze on him as though sensing something missing.
Goo, goo!
The owl perched on Chambein''s shoulder let out a call.
“Here?” Following the owl’s direction, Chambein shifted his gaze to the back of Yi Chen’s head, parting his hair with his fingers to peer fully into the skull and observe the brain''s internal state.
An intact brain came into view, and where its grooves should have been randomly distributed, there was an unusual reshaping at the back. The muscle-like streaks and indentations at the rear of his brain interlocked andbined, forming a "Professional Emblem" resembling an open book, perfectly symmetrical.
With each breath, oxygen flowed into his skull, causing the brain to pulsate with the intake. The ''Book'' symbol imprinted on the back of his head created an illusion of pages turning, even with tiny letters on the surface seeming to shift like living text as they adjusted to his form.
“This!” Chambein, who had been in Zion for years, was so taken aback by the sight that he stared in amazement, frozen with his hand still on Yi Chen''s head. It took him a full three minutes to realize hisck of decorum, and he quickly straightened himself.
Cough, cough.
“The ceremony has been a sess; all of you have received your respective ''Professions'' without exception. However, you’re still one step away from bing true gentlemen. Before you officially start your ''training'' with the organization, you’ll have two days of free time. Soon, a designated person will escort you to temporary amodations in Zion City.“Please use this time toplete your ''custom-made clothing’. If you fail to finish or your attire does not meet the standards, your training period will be dyed, and disciplinary records may be added.”
When Chambein finished speaking, an intense cheer rose from the ceremony hall but soon faded. Suppressing their excitement, everyone quietly discussed the Professions they had received.
Blonde-haired Edmund quickly came over to Yi Chen, trying to locate his "Emblem".
“Huh? William, is your emblem hidden somewhere secret? Well, my family has connections with a really good tailor shop in Zion; maybe we could go together?”
Yi Chen didn’t mind the suggestion. After all, he was unfamiliar with the ce andpletely unfamiliar with the process of “custom-made clothing’.”
However, Chambein, the white owl, gave him a sharp look and said sternly, “Due to William Behrens’ unique circumstances, I will personally oversee his lodging and attire.”
Edmund got the message, giving Yi Chen a quick look that said, “We’ll meet again.” He then left with his team.
The other examinees were either taken to temporary amodations or, like Edmund, could head directly to established family estates in Zion.
“We’re leaving,” Chambein said, leading Yi Chen to an upscale restaurant called Brusalle, where they were seated in the deepest private room. Once the array of exquisite dishes was brought to the table, Chambein emphasized privacy to the waiter, ensuring that they wouldn’t be disturbed during the meal.
Dining with Chambein was rather ufortable for Yi Chen. Chambein''s movements were incredibly refined, even keeping the exact angles of his knife and fork consistent and the food in his mouth for precisely the same duration every time. Yi Chen did his best to mimic the etiquette he saw.
“No need to force yourself. Later, during your formal training, you’ll learn gentlemanly etiquette in a structured way… After all, you were just a contracted worker at the cemetery before you came here.
“Rx and enjoy; this is your well-deserved reward.”
“Thank you.”
Since the other party had already spoken,
Yi Chen, whose stomach had long been rumbling with hunger, grabbed thergest bowl of sd and devoured it within moments.
Little Grape wasn’t to be outdone either; it crawled out from under Yi Chen’s cor, leapt onto the dining table, and sucked out the eyeballs of a flounder as an appetizer before voraciously gnawing on other meat dishes.
After licking the oil stains clean from the te, it obediently nestled back onto Yi Chen’s shoulder.
Watching the mess left on the table, Chambein muttered softly, “You’ll need to take etiquette lessons seriously when the timees.”
“Understood.”
“Let’s get to the main topic… What choice did you make in the [Hall of the Old Days]?”
Without holding anything back, Yi Chen described the details. Halfway through, Chambein’s eyes widened suddenly.
“What? Blue, ck, and purple, three high-level letters appearing simultaneously? Impossible! Quickly, describe the crests on each of the letters.”
As they discussed the blue crest adorned with nts, Chambein analyzed, “nts… A rare and valuable support-oriented profession. If you choose this, you’ll be in high demand in Zion; many gentleman squads will extend olive branches to you. Following this path also makes it easier to be a ''Doctor'' and obtain clinic licenses.”
When they moved on to the ck crest with a skull, Chambein’s brows furrowed, his eagle-like eyes narrowing at Yi Chen: “The deathly aura gathered from cemeteries shouldn’t be enough to produce a death-type ck letter. Do you have a more direct connection to ‘Death’? This is rarer than the nt path. If you choose it, you could be a fearsome Death Gentleman. However… this isn’t the emblem that appeared in your mind, is it? Did you choose the ‘purple letter’?”
“Yes…”
“Why, with two such excellent options, did you pick an unknown path?”
Chambein, usually warm towards Yi Chen, became unexpectedly stern. He seemed to misunderstand, thinking Yi Chen chose the purple letter out of fear of outside pathogens and a desire to live a safe, uneventful life in Zion.
“Bnce.”[1]
Yi Chen pronounced hisst name and seriously exined his choice, driven by a desire to pursue knowledge while bncing two distinct attributes.
Upon hearing this, Chambein’s misunderstanding dissipated immediately. He stood up abruptly, spreading his arms. Even the owl on his shoulder opened its wings in sync.
“Elegant!”
Chambein quickly resumed his seat and continued seriously, “Ahem~ Since the ‘First Gentleman’ has appointed me to handle your foundational training, I’ll be your ''First Mentor'' in Zion. I’ll also handle the rted formalities for you. After all, I am an honorary professor at the ''Alfarostik Academy''. Your enrollment process will be much smoother as a result.”
Yi Chen promptly updated his address, “Professor Chambein, I have one more question. Now that my profession is determined, how can I experience the changes it brings? Or, how can I examine information rted to this profession?”
“This is why I’ve given you two days toplete something essential, thest step in bing a gentleman: ''tailor-made clothing''. Take your gentleman’s skin ande with me…”
1. Bnce = Behrens... Get it? XD
