Months had passed, but he still looked as handsome as before. He was in a dark green military uniform and wore ck gloves. He was looking down at her.

They looked at each other silently.

What about their promise of never seeing each other again?

    But...

She looked up from the stairs and he looked down from her apartment door. They missed each other so much, but neither of them moved.

After a long while, Lu Zhaoyang finally took the first step and walked towards him.

Huo Chen watched her approach and stepped aside from the door, but he kept his eyes on her.

Lu Zhaoyang was within his arm’s reach.

    “Yang Yang.”

Lu Zhaoyang looked down and took out her keys from her bag. She held the keys tightly and asked, “Huo Yunting and I were attacked on the road earlier today, and now you’re here. Did you send those people?”

The bullet hit the trunk. Nothing much happened after that.

    It felt like a warning.

It was natural for her to be suspicious.

    “Attacked?”

Huo Chen panicked and grabbed her arms to check for injuries. “Are you alright? Are you hurt?”

    “It really... wasn’t you?”

She felt stupid for asking something like that, considering how deeply she knew Huo Chen.

Besides, Huo Yunting was his nephew, his family. He had no reason to n the attack.

“Of course it wasn’t.” He slowly let her arms go. His heart ached.

Did she not trust him anymore...

Huo Chen looked at her and switched the topic. “I’m sorry for not visiting you sooner.”

He saw Huo Yunting spent the whole night at her cest time and felt worried about her.

Since he was recently assigned to some work at the city, he made a request to visit her.

If he waited any longer, he might lose his mind.

“I’m fine. What about you? How are you healing?” She still remembered the bloody marks on his back that day like it was yesterday.

    “I’m doing better now.”

His body was fully healed, but his heart was aching more.

Lu Zhaoyang nodded and turned to open the door.

    Should she invite him in?

But she had promised old Mrs Huo to never see him again.

Lu Zhaoyang stood by the door but did not enter. Her life was once again in turmoil due to his presence.

They may never be together again, but they were still family.

Huo Chen noted her hesitation and realized that his visit was too sudden.

He said gently, “I still have business to attend to. Do take care, you are staying alone after all.”

Lu Zhaoyang smiled with affected cheer and said, “You take care too.”

After thest incident and all the years without him, she realized just how dangerous his job was.

They were almost like strangers now. They greeted and parted with no ns for the future.

Huo Chen turned and slowly walked away. When he heard the door shut behind him, he stopped and turned to look at the door.

Time could mend hearts, but also break them. After being separated for so long, their rtionship was possibly... probably...

    Sigh.

Lu Zhaoyang leaned back against the door and shut her eyes in distress. She felt so lonely.

She could not hear his footsteps anymore. He must be gone now.

She tossed her bag away and rushed to the window in the living room. She pulled the blinds and looked downstairs.

    She could not see him.

She continued staring at the entrance to her apartment.
