If it was his birthday party, she must not be the only one invited. It would not be appropriate to decline his invitation.
“Okay.” Lu Zhaoyang said.
Xiang Jinxi finished signing the papers and stood up once more. “See you in the evening.”
“I’ll head back to work now.” She nodded and took the papers with her.
Back in her office, Lu Zhaoyang considered buying a present for him but did not know what he needed or appreciated. In the end, she bought him a birthday cake to y it safe.
When working hours were almost over, Xiang Jinxi sent an address to her.
She found out when she reached that it was actually a very quiet and private clubhouse. She vaguely remembered that only the most prestigious members of society were allowed inside.
She carried the cake with her and arrived at the door. Qin An was already there to escort her to a private box.
“The president is inside.” Qin An halted and said. “This way, Assistant Lu.”
“Thank you.”
Lu Zhaoyang was confused. It was so quiet here. Surely a birthday party should be more lively?
She opened the door to the room. Beside a brightly lit tree was Xiang Jinxi, sitting by himself.
Lu Zhaoyang was surprised.
She acted casual and entered as she looked around her. “Where is everyone else? Are they ying hide and seek?”
“What do you mean by everyone else?” Xiang Jinxi asked and sipped his red wine.
“President, please tell me you invited someone other than me to your birthday party.”
“Ah, I don’t like noisy ces. You have worked hard for thepany and deserve a treat. Today’s asion is a good excuse for me to do so.” He said inly without a hint of anything more.
So that was that.
Lu Zhaoyang finally rxed and presented the cake she brought with her. She said with a smile, “Happy birthday.”
“Have a seat.”
She sat down opposite Xiang Jinxi. The atmosphere did not feel like a birthday party but more like a date.
The ambience was especially suggestive. It was quiet and peaceful out here, where one could simply look up and see the stars. It was very romantic.
She never thought that the cool and stony Xiang Jinxi preferred this kind of atmosphere.
“Enjoy your meal.”
He sounded as cool as ice.
What kind of birthday man was this...
Throughout dinner, Lu Zhaoyang kept thinking of Huo Yunting. She wondered how he was doing now and whether his hands were worsening.
Dinner went surprisingly quietly. Lu Zhaoyang wanted to leave earlier so she ate faster than usual.
When it was about time, she put down her utensils and wiped her lips. “Should we cut the cake?”
“I never eat cake.” Xiang Jinxi shot a cold look at the cake on the table.
“Maybe you don’t do this at home, but now you can try it out. No birthday party isplete without a cake.”
Lu Zhaoyang opened the cake box. She had no idea how old Xiang Jinxi was so she randomly stuck a few candles into the cake and lit them up.
The waiter was swiftly cooperative. The lights in the private box dimmed. Xiang Jinxi looked at Lu Zhaoyang’s smiling face, illuminated by candlelight, and asked calmly, “Do you want to hear my story?”
“Don’t you want to blow the candles first?” The candles were melting fast.
Xiang Jinxi continued inly, “I was born in a very poor family. On my tenth birthday, my mother wanted to buy me a birthday cake. I waited an entire night for her but only managed to see her the next day.”
Lu Zhaoyang listened quietly. The candles were melting more and more.
“I saw her... body. She still had a cake with her.”
