Lu Zhaoyang could not make head or tail of what the granny meant. But there was one word that struck her mind: my son. Was it about Huo Chen? “I have no idea what you are talking about. Could you be more specific?”

The granny’s face was red and blotchy, and an indescribable hatred filled her. “Are you ying dumb? Well, then let mey it bare before you! My son’s cornea is in your eye! You got it?”

Last night, when Huo Chen went to the hospital to treat her injured earlobe, the olddy got wind of it and brought her men to apprehend him personally and forced him to perform a full physical checkup, which was a prerequisite to return to the military. Eyesight was a top priority in the army.

After the examination, the doctor told the granny that the cornea in Huo Chen’s right eye was gone, and he was wearing contact lenses all this while. The son that she was proud of was blind in the right eye. Huo Chen was a disabled person now, there was no way that he could rejoin the army. The granny almost passed out upon hearing the news. “Lu Zhaoyang, why do you think you can see again? It was Huo Chen who gave you his cornea!”

The news came as a bolt from the blue. Lu Zhaoyang was rooted to the spot in disbelief. When did this happen, and why did she not know about it at all?

Lu Zhaoyang frantically searched through her memory, recalling that on the day of herbor, she was transferred into the operating theater from the delivery room. Back then, Huo Chen had told her that there was a suitable cornea and that she could undergo the transntation right after the delivery. But he never disclosed the donor’s identity. She just thought that it was a miracle. Little did she know that Huo Chen had gone into the operating theater at the same time as she did.

Thinking of this brought tears to Lu Zhaoyang’s eyes. Huo Chen had suffered so much, falling from heaven to hell, and still forced himself to wake up before she did. What was more, he had been taking care of her and her son all these years while pretending nothing had ever happened and never asked for anything in return.

Huo Chen did everything for her—leaving the army and giving her his cornea. But what had she done? Not only that she could not help him, she had even be his burden and indebted to him.

Lu Zhaoyang was tongue-tied, feeling a lump in her throat. Tears started to flow uncontrobly down her cheeks.

“Huo’s is bellying up, and I was willing to sacrifice everything to send my son back to the army! Now, how can he rejoin the army with just one eye? His life is over, the Huo family is finished! It is you who have ruined his future!” The granny was short of breath. She wiped her tears and sat back on the couch with the help of the maid.

Nearby, cold sweat started to trickle down Xue Yuming’s forehead knowing that her daughter had just caused a mess again. But Huo Yunting was the only person who could save her situation, and no matter how sorry and touched Lu Zhaoyang felt toward Huo Chen, they must not be together. So, Xue Yuming started to recollect her thoughts.

“You still have the nerve to cry and enjoy his love and care without a sense of guilt? What can you do, and do you deserve him?”

There was no word to describe the extent of the hatred that the granny held toward Lu Zhaoyang. Right now, distress and disappointmentpletely overwhelmed her.

“Second Master, you are here!” Lu Zhaoyang turned around upon hearing what the maid said. Huo Chen was walking down the stairs in his casual wear. A bandage covered her earlobe, and his right eye looked just fine.
