Wen He felt that now was the time to speak the magic words and see if they would work out.
She finally had the opportunity to speak to old Mrs Huo privately, so she looked at the elderly woman and said solemnly, “Mum, Chen was still a soldier when I first met him. I understand that the Huo family business is having issues recently, but I must admit that despite how selfish it sounds... I do think that he is more suitable for the army, don’t you think?”
Sitting close to them was Huo Zhenning, who overheard herment. Was she insinuating that he was hindering Chen?
Xue Yuming, on the other hand, thought that it might be an idea worth considering. With Huo Chen gone from the house, he and Yangyang would never be able to rebuild their rtionship.
Wen He watched old Mrs Huo expectantly, hoping to hear the right answer from her.
“He, you speak my mind! When his eye is healed, I will reach out to my connections and get him back into the army!”
Old Mrs Huo had wanted to do so, but the Huo family business dyed things. After that, Huo Chen’s loss of sight in one eye made it impossible for him to return to the military.
The old woman was delighted to have a daughter-inw who was on her side.
She thought that Wen He had treated Chen well and even nned for his future. Such daughter-inw was a rare find.
On the other hand, Wen He was secretly thrilled with the oue!
All the hard work she had put into this scheme had been worth it. It was now a matter of waiting until the operation wasplete. Hopefully, everything would go as nned!
The eye surgery was a major operation. When Huo Chen was finally pushed out of the operation theatre, Wen He could barely open her eyes.
He slept on the bed with a bandage over his right eye. The effect of the anaesthetics had not worn off yet, so he remained unconscious.
He was moved to an observation room, where Huo Zhenning and wife stayed for a while more before leaving with old Mrs Huo. They were all dead tired.
Wen He sat by Huo Chen’s bed and watched him sleep. Despite his paleplexion, he still had a peculiar charm.
She rested her head on her chin and sighed.
“Huo Chen, buck up and don’t disappoint me. My freedom depends on you.”
She blinked through her bloodshot eyes, looked at the time, and yawned. It was time to sleep.
The next day,te at night, Huo Chen finally woke up.
His acute senses informed him that there was someone else in the room. It felt like...
Wen He.
He switched on the lights by bed, feeling thirsty.
When the lights came on, Wen He woke up from her sleep on the sofa. She immediately noticed that he was reaching his hand out.
“Don’t move,” she said sternly. “Don’t you know to call for help? There’s no need to push yourself now.”
“I’m fine, it’s just an eye. I can still see.”
He was not used to asking for support. Besides, he did not want to disturb her rest, considering that she probably never left his side since the surgery.
“I’m not used to your kindness.” Wen He poured him a cup of water and ced it in his hand. “How do you feel?”
“I need at least seven days to know the result.” He knew from experience in taking care of a simr patient.
“I’m asking if it hurts!”
She was not dumb. Of course they had to wait to know if it worked.
“It doesn’t.” The miniscule pain he was experiencing was not worth mentioning.
“Tsk tsk, you sound like a man of steel. As expected, the military suits you more,” she admitted. “I’ll get the doctor, you hang in there.”
Wen He took the cup from him and left it on the table before leaving the private room.
Minutester, a doctor arrived. Huo Chen was found to be doing perfectly fine.
Right after the examination, a servant from the Huo family arrived with dinner.
Wen He took a bowl and sat down beside the bed. “Come, let me help you.”
