Wen He did not stop moving after her attack. She turned to Lu Bai and found the strength to lift him up, and then she prepared to make for the exit.

    Everything happened so fast!

    “Ma’am!”

The soldiers were taken by surprise. Some of them tried to stop her but Huo Chen stopped them just in time.

    “Nobody move!”

    The soldiers obeyed.

Huo Chen eyed the two soldiers that Wen He knocked out. She had fought without holding back.

He shifted his wary gaze to Wen He, who looked ready to attack again. She was in protective mode.

He took two steps forward and spoke calmly, “Wen He, put him down and I will ignore what you just did. You will not like the consequences!”

    “Hah.”

Wen He chuckled. She had one arm around Lu Bai’s waist as she prepared to defend herself.

“Over my dead body. I am taking Bai away with me today and I don’t need your special treatment!”

    “...”

Huo Chen’s eyes narrowed dangerously. He raised his arm slowly as he prepared to give an order to his men.

    “What’s this nonsense!”

Suddenly, they all heard a stern voice that was fast approaching the cell.

All of them turned to look at the door, where a group of men were making a fast entrance into the underground prison.

They were headed by the basemander — Yang Yi.

He was in his military uniform and his expression was deadly serious. The men behind him marched in sync into the prison, and they were all fully armed.

    “Commander!”

Huo Chen and the other soldiers saluted Commander Yang.

Yang Yi took in the situation. He rested his gaze on Wen He for a few moments and gestured with a wave.

    “Take her down!”

    “Yes sir!”

The men behind him raised their firearms and pointed at Wen He’s forehead.

Any wrong move and she might be shot down then and there.

Huo Chen’sposure was finally broken by the unexpected turn of events.

He looked at Wen He and saw the fear in her eyes as she took a few steps back.

Wen He’s fingers trembled as she looked at the dozens of guns pointed at her.

She did not wish to die yet, not while she had Bai.

    “Huo Chen.”

At this critical moment, she chose to rely on Huo Chen. She bit down on her lip and looked at the familiar face. There was almost an unnoticeable hint of vulnerability in her eyes.

    “Help me.”

    “...”

Her eyes glimmered with fear and uncertainty as she put all her hopes on him.

Huo Chen had only ever seen Wen He when she was confident and daring, which was in sharp contrast to her current state. A sudden wave of sympathy overcame him.

He suppressed the emotion and took a step forward.

    “Major General Huo!”

Yang Yi eyed him warningly. “Know your ce. Wen He is your wife, but she is meddling with official business. She tried to free a prisoner and even harmed our own men. I have the right to get her locked up or even terminated!”

    Click.

The moment he finished speaking, the soldiers behind him turned the safety off on their guns.

“Huo Chen!” Wen He cried shakily as she was backed to a corner.

Huo Chen was deep in his thoughts as he kept his roiling emotions suppressed. Soon, he regained hisposure.

“Commander Yang, they cannot die yet.”

His tone was calm but there was another meaning behind his words.

    “I know very well!”

Yang Yi frowned as his sight trained back on Wen He’s face with his chilly tone. “I’ll count to three, if you don’t surrender now, both you and Lu Bai will die here!”

Wen He ignored him and stared intently at Huo Chen.

    “Huo Chen!”

    “One!”

“Huo Chen, you’re not willing to help me?”

    “Two!”

    “You asshole, I’m your wife!”

Her pleads were met with deafening silence and Huo Chen simply stood where he was in attention like a solid spear facing the sky.

His well-proportioned face was calm and was unfazed in the face of her question.

That cold ruthlessness sank Wen He’s heart slowly.

    “Three!”

The soldiers surrounding her had their fingers ready on the trigger, and Yang Yi’s brow twitched, and suddenly...

    “I surrender!”

Wen He put Lu Bai down and raised both her hands in the air.

She knew this was not the time, she could not afford to let Lu Bai die here before taking him away.

    “Very well.”

Yang Yi was relieved and raised his hand.

A few soldiers surged forward and subdued Wen He before cuffing her.

Wen He looked down and simply allowed her to drag her away.

As she passed by Huo Chen, she suddenly stopped, a faint scorn appeared on her face and she sneered. “I was mistaken about you!”

Wen He tried to surprised the unknown pain in her heart, as a self-depreciating smirk appeared on tip of her lips while she was dragged to the prison.

Huo Chen looked on as her figure disappeared, his expression did not change.

Song Shou walked over and saw him clenching his fist with veins visibly appearing on his fair hands. It didn’t take much to know how much strength was being used there.

In the army, regtions reigned supreme and even if his officer was a major general, with Commander Yang as themander of the military district, he could not go against him openly.

And most importantly, it was Miss who had made a misstep.

If his sir was to disobey orders and to act rashly, the end result was inevitably being both of them thrown into the mmer.

Miss should have thought of this, if sir was to get thrown in the mmer as well, who could save her?

“Major General Huo,” Yang Yi suddenly spoke, “I’m d that you had not forgotten your standing as a soldier.”

    “Is that so?”

Huo Chen stared at him and said inly before Yang Yi’s imposing presence. “But I have to remind you, mander, I’m afraid that you are forgetting our original goal.”

“And what do you mean by that?”

Huo Chen ignored the change in Yang Yi’s expression. His face was calm and his gaze peaceful with no edge to it, yet every word he spoke had Yang Yi had lost for words.

“We had spent so much effort to capture Lu Bai, and what for? Was it not to recruit him? But you had not say hello before torturing him. This will only push Lu Bai further away. Do you think that he will still willingly work for us?”

Those words, half of it was a reminder and the other was facts with a hint of censuring.

    “...”

    Yang Yi could not retort.

He was actually censured by a subordinate!

This gave Yang Yi no avenue to retreat and he stared aggressively at Huo Chen, roaring at him as frustration turned into anger.

“When I agreed to let you bring Wen He into the armory, it’s all because you said she would be able to redeem herself with deeds that I gave her that chance. What happened to that? Not only did she was useless, she even made a bloody scene! Is this not your responsibility? Huo Chen, from today onwards, they are under my personal charge. Do not interfere or else don’t me me if anything happens!”
