For some reason, Gu Jinzhi could not help but wheeze at her.
“Well, of course, if it’s you who did it to me, it might be a different story.”
Wen He did not reply. She almost could not feel her heartbeat. She could not hear her breath. It felt as if her soul was uprooted right from inside her. She did not regret, nevertheless, whether if she was criticized as being stubborn or hot-headed. That was who she was—a person who would never let the consequences of her own mistake to be shouldered by somebody else, especially when that someone was her significant other.
She at least owned Huo Chen for once. No regrets.
“Hmm, let’s talk about something happier,” said Gu Jinzhi with his eyeballs rolling mischievously, “The Lin family is done for. Same goes with Lin Kang.”
“What do you mean?”
The man slowly exhaled as he leaned back onto the sofa, “The Lin family has been working with the military for almost a century. I did pull off some of my tricks to tear the two apart. It didn’t work as the kind-hearted military never thought of annihting the family from the market by revealing the faults and frauds in their product. My prayers were heard however.” He smiled, “Lin Kang is too foolish, after all.”
“...”
“You know what he did? He was the one who put both you and Huo Chen up the stage. He revealed what happened between you two. It absolutely caused trouble for the military, a lot of them, to an extent that they reached out to the Ministry of Health to announce that the Lin family product contains hazardous, unpermitted chemicals. And poof. Lin family is gone.” All the storytelling went slowly and steadily like Gu Jinzhi’s personality.
“Uh huh, so are you going to buy the wholepany?”
“What for do I buy that piece of dump?” Snorted Gu Jinzhi.
“Well, you avenge yourself at least, I guess?”
Even though I seriously have no idea what’s the big deal between you and that family...
Towards her question, Gu Jinzhi only yfully raised his brows.
Wen He then continued keeping her head low as she indulged in her depression, having no strength to criticize Gu Jinzhi’s disgusting face acting like a know-it-all.
“I got to go,” Gu Jinzhi got up and stretched himself, “By the way, a kind reminder for you—put on a scarf when you go out.”
“...”
She checked out her neck which was covered with a huge area of love bites.
It was embarrassing as her cheeks reddened. However, when reality struck her again, she was pale.
It was ironic for her to think that both Huo Chen and her were no longer associated in any form despite what loving and hot stuff they did the night before.
“Huo Chen...” Gasped, she covered her face as she muttered, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry!”
Her following days were mindlessly spent as sheid over the sofa like a corpse. She wished to be an actual corpse at various asions. Food and daily necessities were served by Gu Jinzhi’s men while Lu Bai visited every time with a sigh of disappointment.
Lu Zhaoyang came once. But she left quickly without saying a word as Wen He would google about her news every single day. She got lost in the ming war and criticisms towards her.
As expected, Huo Chen was saved. His career and pride was saved. Nothing bad had happened to him. In addition, he also won over sympathy from the people, especially thedies who shouted desperately for his attention to pick them up, with solid die-hard vows that they would never use him like Wen He the old witch and they would treat him with heart.
He was that Prince Charming on the tank while she was the trash maid at an abandoned garbage site.
That’s just fine. That’s what I deserve...
That’s what I deserve for loving a man I shouldn’t.
She smiled while thinking so.
