Wen He was feeling her blood boiling as she scratched her head, “Do you think he might get himself into danger this time around?”
She thought it was a legible question but she regretted the moment she said it.
It was stupid. Very stupid.
She was a professional killer. She had seen how things get messy when it involved weaponry. She had also joined the operation in Golden Triangle, nearly losing her life too. And Golden Triangle was just a zone with slightplication among groups. And Huo Chen was currently heading to a war field containing armies from two countries. He could be a statue of a national hero in the history museum anytime.
“Wait...” Wen He somehow remembered something, “Did you say—Country T?”
I remember—that Sha Kang was under themand of a certain superior in Country T? Huo Chen went against thews and killed him.
Is that the cause?
But—but—Huo Chen executed Sha Kang himself for me...
So did I—am I the cause to ...
Wen He tried to not associate things such way but she could not rest, as she loitered in the room frantically.
“Honey, let me remind me that—you are no longer associated with Huo Chen. Therefore you don’t have the obligation to worry, even interfere with his duty.” Having seen thessie acting so restlessly, Gu Jinzhi could not help but remind her.
“I...” Wen He wanted to refute for herself. However, she could not.
Easier said than done.
How can I not mind his business? I can give him up. I can ditch him for good and never see him again in my life.
But I need to at least know he’s living.
“I know what you want to do,” Gu Jinzhi caught on her gestures as he analyzed, “But Wen He, you are on your own. You want to look for your man? Be my guest, but it would take you forever to merely get to the boundary, even more so when it’s strictly guarded. I think you might have been arrested as a spy before you could even see Huo Chen’s silhouette from afar.”
I KNOW! I know what you meant!
Without permission from the military, I can go nowhere!
“All you need to do now is to have faith in him.”
“...” Wen He lowered her head in despair.
Of course I believe in Huo Chen. But he’s not facing a random mafia group in awless zone. He’s facing guns and missiles from another nation. Anything could happen. And the reality is, I can do nothing. I can’t even show up at his base.
Wen He spent more days in the hospital. She once intended to get discharged as early as possible. Nevertheless, things changed. Huo Chen was informed to be at the war field and she had to monitor him, somehow. All she could do was flipping channels, checking out news online by googling his name from time to time while trying to contact Yang Yi who did not respond with a single word.
A fortnight passed.
The Country Z’s military tried to keep the news of the war within the base, so that they would not cause any unnecessarymotion among the people.
It did not work, nheless.
The national news channel started reporting about the war in rather concise and general manner. It was all the good news that sounded too good to be true to Wen He.
However, it was relieving to know more information about the war. At least, Wen He was finally informed about the exact location of the war and Huo Chen the general was alive and still leading the army.
It all went happy-go-lucky for a second, till...
“That’s all for the national news. Now we proceed with a weather forecast.”
The nationwide map featured a thunderstorm right at the boundary. The hostess called it a storm that mightst 10 days or more. Wen He couldprehend that as trouble to the Country Z’s army. She intuitively felt something. She could not hold it anymore after spending the next few days unable to sleep, to sit still and eat.
She demanded an immediate discharge and left the hospital, rushed back to the capital and barged into Yang Yi’s office, ignoring the guardsmen, “Commander, sir!” The door mmed open, “We need to talk.”
