That night after school Kato sat in his room looking at the number Yutaka gave him. He held his cell phone in the other hand and was staring at the two in turn. What was he waiting for, here he had the number of his first real friend and he hasn’t even put it into his phone yet. Kato decides to put it into his phone but stops half way. What if this was just another trick. It wouldn’t have been the first time he was tricked into a situation like this. Kato places the paper with Yutaka’s number on it on his dresser and goes to bed.


    The next day in class Kato sees Yutaka talking to a few of their classmates. It was obvious he wouldn’t have trouble making friends. Yutaka caught Kato’s gaze making Kato look away quickly. Yutaka motions to say something to Kato but the teacher walks and instructs everyone to take their seat.


    The first half of class had finished and everyone was heading to the cafeteria for lunch. Yutaka pulls out the bento he packed the night before and look towards Kato’s desk only to see the boy had already left the class. Yutaka had a slight concerned look on his face as to why Kato would leave.


    “Perhaps he really doesn’t want to be my friend,” Yutaka mumbled to himself.


    “Did you hear,” asked a girl standing outside the classroom.


    “Yeah, they caught the dweeb walking to the cafeteria like he was a normal person,” said the other girl.


    “Serves him right, that bastard think he can talk to our precious Endo-san,” said the first girl.


    “We should hurry, I heard they took him to the roof. I don’t want to miss out on that weird little freaks punishment,” said the other girl.


    Yutaka listened closely at what the girls were saying. Yutaka could feel his stomach turn at what he heard. He just knew they were talking about Kato. Yutaka quickly makes for where the others were.


    “The roof, got to get to the roof,” said Yutaka racing down the hallway.


    Yutaka makes it to the stairs leading to the roof and already he could hear the faint sound of students laughing. He slowly makes his way up the stairs; each step brings the noise louder and clearer. Yutaka slowly opens the door and peers outside to see Kato in the center of the entire class. He was bleeding and bruised; tears filled his eyes and rolled down his cheek. His uniform was forced open and his bare-naked body was exposed to everyone. There was writing all over his body that read: “worthless”, “hated”, “freak”, and “loser”. But what really hurt Yutaka the most was the look in Kato’s eyes. They were empty and devoid of all hope. Kato didn’t flinch or move when the male students began pulling at his hair. Yutaka finally had enough, he couldn’t bear to watch anymore.     “All of you…” Yutaka whispered.


    “Eh, hey Endo-san, what are you doing here,” asked one of the male students in a nervous voice.


    Yutaka snaps his head up, tears filled his eyes and anger was etched hard on his face.


    “What the hell are you all doing to Senichi-san,” yelled Yutaka.


    Everyone stood there for a moment with depressed looks on their faces. Kato sat on the ground looking at everyone surprised at how they reacted to the question. Yutaka made his way to Kato shoving everyone out the way. He began to tend to Kato’s clothes, the other students stood there for a moment more before slowly making their way back into the building leaving the two alone.


    “Senichi-san, are you okay,” asked Yutaka trying to wipe the blood from Kato’s face.


    “Why,” Kato whispered in a low tone.


    “What,” said Yutaka looking confused.


    Kato pushed Yutaka way and struggled to get up. He began to lumber his way to the door wiping the tears from his eyes. Yutaka grabs Kato’s arm keeping him from leaving. Kato violently tries to shake himself free but Yutaka was stronger, not to mention the damage Kato received from the bullying. Kato turned to claw at Yutaka’s hand but was surprised by the sensation of his lips press tightly to Yutaka. Kato immediately lost what little strength he had left in his body and sank to the floor. Yutaka slowly pulled away, blush lightly touching his face. The two sat there quiet for a moment before Yutaka spoke.


    “I’m sorry but I just couldn’t resist anymore,” said Yutaka touching his own lips.


    “What, what was that,” asked Kato.


    “I believe that was a kiss, my first kiss actually. What about you,” asked Yutaka.


    “It… it was…” said Kato.


    “I’m glad,” said Yutaka smiling brightly.


    “But why,” asked Kato.


    Yutaka looked down with sad eyes.


    “Remember why I said I had a couple of reasons as to why I wanted to be your friend,” asked Yutaka.


    Kato nods slightly.


    “From the first time, I met you… I’ve kind of had a crush on you…” said Yutaka blushing more.


    Kato considered what Yutaka said for a moment. Yutaka took the silence as Kato wanting to be left alone and made his way for the door. That’s when he felt Kato pull on his arm and turn him around. Yutaka was then met with a passionate kiss from Kato that made his knees buckle a little. Kato looks deep into Yutaka’s eyes making the boy look away bashfully with a slight smile on his face.


    “You know, you never called me last night, and this morning it felt like you hated me for some reason,” said Yutaka.


    Kato look down at his feet blushing from embarrassment.


    “I… I have my reasons for that, it’s really hard for me to trust you know,” said Kato.


    Yutaka tries to fix Kato’s hair a little and wipes the remaining tears from his face.


    “Well I hope on day you can trust me, but until then let’s get you cleaned up,” said Yutaka.


    Kato looks at his uniform and sighs in despair. Yutaka hugs him tightly and strokes his hair back. Kato’s face is extremely red but he quickly accepts Yutaka’s embrace. This felt really nice, Kato thought.
