    It had snowed lightly this morning, and a thinyer of fresh snow covered the icy surface of theke.

    Obviously, someone had carried the child across the ice when it broke, causing that person to fall into the ice hole, but the child, fortunate and light,nded on the ice at thest moment and was miraculously spared.<div>
