It was from Xu Lei. Lu Jia’er picked it up. “Deputy Xu!”
“Professor Lu, have you had dinner yet?” She heard Xu Lei saying.
Lu Jia’er answered politely. “Yes. And you?”
“Me, too. Professor Lu, no offense but where are you now?” Xu Lei cut to the chase after a simple exchange of pleasantries.
“I am at my boyfriend’s. What can I do you for?” Lu Jia’er did not lie to him.
“Is it okay for you to let me know the address?” Xu Lei asked.
“Deputy Xu, if there is something you cannot talk about on the phone, let’s meet soemwhere else.” Lu Jia’er proposed.
Xu Lei took a look at the time. “Okay. I will text you the address.”
Lu Jia’er hung up, got changed and headed out.
The location Xu Lei chose was not a coffee shop or a bar, but a ce that could offer an overlook of the night of the City B—Mount Mei.
Mount Mei was located in a park surrounded by a world of shimming green hills and clear azure water. It was just the ce to seek quietness in a nosy neighbor and to escape from the summer heat. In the spring, the mountain would be tinted red by rhododendron, in summer, the twigs would be draping with longan, in autumn, the mountain was decorated by maple trees and in winter, it was the pine trees that would challenge the wind. Whichever season it was, Mount Mei would be like andscape painting that adds brilliance to City B’s present splendor.
When Lu Jia’er drove to the top of the mountain, it was already past 9:00 p.m. Still, some citizens were enjoying a good time here.
Lu Jia’er met with Xu Lei. They found the perfect spot to stand and appreciate the night view.
The gentle breeze was refreshing and the mild fragrance was greeting their noses. Looking up, the stars seemed to close and looking down, mps and candles from a myriad of families could be seen in one nce.
It was such a stunning view. Lu Jia’er turned to Xu Lei. “Deputy Xu, you did not ask me here to look at the pretty view, did you?”
“What if I did?” Xu Lei did not follow the convention.
Lu Jia’er did not buy his words. Even so, she let him have this moment. “Then this trip will be worthwhile.”
Xu Lei smiled. “Su Han was sent abroad.” He said.
Lu Jia’er asked at once. “When was she sent abroad? Do you know where she is going?”
“At 2:30 this afternoon! But I don’t know where she is going.” Xu Lei told her everything he knew.
Lu Jia’er pondered the new information. After MSS located Su Han, she was sent abroad at once. Had... something happened to Su Han as well?
“Deputy Xu, when Su Han was rescued, how was she? Was she also hurt by the explosion?” Lu Jia’er had more questions.
Xu Lei shook his head. “I don’t know what state Su Han was in or if she was wounded when she was rescued.”
Lu Jia’er frowned. Jason was so badly wounded. She expected that to some extent, Su Han must have sustained some injury.
“Deputy Xu, I appreciate that you have collected so much information for me. However, from this point on, please drop the matter.” Lu Jia’er cautioned him.
Xu Lei was taken aback. Staring at Lu Jia’er with sharp and meaningful looks, he said, “Professor Lu, I am sorry but I have something on my mind. I am not sure if it is okay for me to tell you.”
“Do tell.” Lu Jia’er was naturally aware of what he had on his mind. She did not stop him.
“It seems like you know the truth behind this kidnapping.” Xu Lei mentioned.
Hearing this, Lu Jia’er blinked. Her answer was a question, “What makes you say so?”
“My instincts!” Xu Lei replied.
Lu Jia’er shook her head. “Deputy Xu, your instinct this time is wrong. I told you to drop the matter because I am afraid that when MSS learns that you leaked the information, you will suffer severe consequences.”
“I have considered the consequences thoroughly before I made my promise to you!” Xu Lei was not intimidated.
“Deputy Xu!” Lu Jia’er said his name anxiously.
Before she could go on, Xu Lei interposed with his own question, “Professor Lu, can you tell me who you and Su Han are?”
