Chapter Nine - For I have Sinned

Father Jon needed to be notified that there would be no wedding ceremony, at least not yet. Jacob has a funeral to plan first. She was sure it would be an elegant affair with lots of very important people. It would probably be held at the same catholic church they were planning to get married in, that would have to change.

For a brief moment Katie Lynn fooled herself and was able to smile, and then accepted the gruesome truth. She must get him here, and fast. He was the one whose blood would finally finish it. His death, although sorrowful, would be the beginning of a whole new life. He would be able to breathe fresh air again. He would be able to caress her physical body. He would make her feel whole once again. Together they would start a new life with their baby. From that moment on Jacob would be dead to her.

But Father Jon wasn’t the one who answered the rectory phone, she did. Mrs. Jon Hanson. So happy, she was always smiling and cheerful. Katie had never heard an unkind word uttered by her. Why was she so special that she could find her happiness when others couldn’t? She had done nothing to earn her happiness other than marry a man of God. Willing tears to come in quick sobbing bursts, her apparent emotional anxiety would lure the woman to urge her husband to come. The church was only a few minutes away. Katie wouldn’t have much time to clean up the Drea mess. This ploy worked and within minutes there was a soft knock at the door.

Katie franticly glanced around room and discerned she must have already taken care of Drea. The only evidence left of Drea being there was the five bags of groceries sitting in the doorway that led to the dining room and kitchen. Why had she ordered so much food, she was only one person. The brown paper bags surprisingly had been saved from the blood bath that had taken place in this room. They held no evidence of the evil that developed around it.

A loud thud startled her out of her dreary thoughts. The solid oak door shook under the onslaught of the person behind it. They don’t make them like this anymore.

"Katie Lynn, its Stacy Hanson.” Katie let out a heavy sigh. This was not who she wanted, but she''ll have to do.

Katie waited, starring at the closed door and wishing the old woman away. She could feel the woman’s anxiety build as she was left wondering why Katie hadn’t come to the door. Her knocking became louder, more insistent. Quickly Katie checked to ensure that Drea’s body was gone. There wasn’t a trace left. Not a blood spatter, not a bloody pen, and the wood floor shined to a high gloss. Almost as if nothing violent had happened in the room at all, but on that table lay the evidence.

“Katie Lynn, open this door before I have to call the police for a well neighbor check!”

With that urging she opened the door, Katie forced herself to allow her emotions to show, her eyes filled with tears, and she sobbed seemingly uncontrollable. Stacy Hanson, although getting up there in years, was a strong healthy woman. She was capable of putting up a fight.Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

Katie grabbed the woman as soon as she stepped in the door and flung her across the room slamming her head into the mirror. He watched from the mirror with a sly sinister grin as she smashed the woman’s head over and over again into the shiny service. It didn’t matter whether the woman lived or died as long as she could break that mirror. Blood began to poor out of her nose, mouth, and even her ears as continued to pummel the mirror with the woman’s face. Not a single new crack appeared in the mirror. As suddenly as the attack started Katie Lynn stopped, Stacey’s lifeless body slumped to the floor. And He just laughed at her.

    “Katie, what are you doing?”

From behind her came a familiar voice, it wasn’t His voice. She was staring into the mirror but didn’t see anyone’s reflection but her own. The voice, Jacobs’ voice, was there but he was not. Maybe if she turned around, but she dared not move. What if He came back for her.

“Katie, what’s wrong with you?” came a different shrill voice, still familiar. It was an older female voice.

Jacob grabbed Katie by the shoulder to prevent another bloody blow to her face. It was difficult to tell how many times Katie had bashed her head into that mirror before they had shown up. All he could tell was that her nose was broken, and blood was streaming down her face from several cuts. Her delicate features contorted into an ugly hard horror show.

Katie Lynn turned around to see Jacob and his mother standing in the open door. It couldn’t be, she was dead! An ear-piercing scream escaped her pale lips as Jacob grab her to get her attention. Pushing back from the man who had broken her heart Katie fell backwards knocking the antique mirror to the ground shattering the glass into pieces. A quiet calm finally came over.

“Oh, my gawd, look what you''ve done Mom!”

“Me! How can this be my fault? Obviously, I was right, she’s clearly unstable and unsuitable to be a part of this family.”

“Shut up and call 911. I told you before I left the house I couldn’t do it. The money means nothing if I can’t be happy. Katie makes me happy.”

"You''re as weak as your father was and that weakness will get you nowhere in life."

"You''re a vile awful woman! Dad would be ashamed of you!

"Your father was a blithering idiot who couldn''t keep his dick in his pants. If it wasn''t for me, we would have ended up living in some two room shack in some two-bit backwater town."

"I would rather live poor than live with you any longer."

"If that really is your choice then so be it."

Josephine turned and walked away as she called 911. “We need an ambulance at 4555 Cordova Court. There has been an incident, and a young lady needs immediate medical attention.” Josephine paused and looked around the room. She hated this room and its quaint French Country decor. “Yes, she’s bleeding from the face, probably has a broken nose, and concussion. Oh, and she’s newly pregnant.”

Jacobs eyes landed on the “World''s Best Daddy” coffee cup as he cradled the bloody Katie in his arms.

“Mother, how did you know she was pregnant?”

“You should know by now that I know everything. The moment I realized you were getting serious with this... this girl I had her investigated. And watched.” Jacob was shocked at the vitriol that came from his mother.

“I love you, Katie. I’m so sorry I was such a coward to my mother. I promise it will never happen again.”

“He’s free.” The last words Katie Lynn spoke.
