Chapter-033

In the pitch-black environment, gunfire roared deafeningly, echoing incessantly.

The spiders’ hissing, as sharp as metal scraping, mixed with the team’s heavy breathing.

Spider limbs and corrosive fluids were scattered across the ground, while the walls were covered with webs and blood splatters, creating a scene straight out of hell.

In the ghostly green vision of the night-vision goggles, the monsters appeared even more grotesque.

Each spider was the size of an adult German Shepherd, with eight thick legs armored in hard chitin, their barbs scraping against the walls as they moved, producing a piercing “ka-ka” sound.

Despite the team’s intense firepower, the sheer number of spiders showed no signs of diminishing, the suffocating pressure almost unbearable.

    “Thermal grenades!”

The captain shouted to the group, then swung his right hand, sending a grenade arcing forward.

The explosion released a burst of thermal signals, making the spiders’ outlines even more distinct in the night vision.

The red silhouettes burned like branding irons, searing into the soldiers’ eyes.

The swarm of spiders surged forward like a tide, covering the walls, the floor, and even the ceiling, nearly clogging the entire corridor.

Though the team had anticipated the spiders’ overwhelming numbers, the sight still sent a wave of indescribable shock and pressure through their hearts, each soldier feeling like a solitary boat sinking into an abyss.

The captain’s gaze swept over the scene displayed in his night-vision goggles, his voice cutting through the chaos with undeniable authority:

    “Crossfire! Fall back!”

The soldiers quickly formed a defensive formation, with the front row firing while the rear provided cover, retreating with difficulty in the direction they had come.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The assault rifles fired continuously, flames spewing from their barrels.

Bullets pierced the spiders’ tough exoskeletons, splattering green corrosive fluid.

The liquid hit the ground with a “sizzle,” emitting acrid white smoke.

    “Boom!”

The thunderous blast of a shotgun reverberated in their ears.

The erupting muzzle flashes briefly illuminated the darkness, instantly tearing apart several spiders attempting to leap onto the soldiers'' heads.

Shattered limbs and corrosive fluids sprayed in all directions, splattering against the walls and floor, making the air even more pungent and unbearable.

Lightly armed drones flew out from the rear, their mounted machine guns unleashing a relentless barrage on the spider horde.

    “Rat-tat-tat-tat!”

Bullets carved arcs of death through the darkness, felling a swath of spiders to the ground.

Suddenly, white spider silk shot out from the side, hitting the drone’s rotors with precision.

The corrosive liquid coating the silk quickly ate through the mechanical structure.

    “Sssss—crack!”

The drone crashed to the ground, sparks flying, extinguished beneath the advancing spiders’ feet.

    “They’re everywhere!”

A soldier shouted, but his voice was almost drowned out by the relentless gunfire and the screeches of the spiders.

Sweat covered his face as he struggled to breathe, the sight of the endless swarm in his night-vision goggles suffocating him.If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Instinctively, he held the trigger tightly, firing desperately ahead as if stopping would mean being devoured by the advancing spider horde.

    “Stay calm! Hold the formation!”

The captain’s tone was as resolute as steel. While firing, he quickly assessed the situation.

"Watch the left flank!" the vice-captain shouted.

A spider crawled down from the wall and lunged directly at a soldier.

The soldier swiftly raised his shotgun.

    “Boom!”

With a thunderous roar, the spider was blown apart.

Corrosive liquid splattered everywhere, eating through the soldier’s armor with a sharp “sizzle.”

    “Don’t stop! Keep falling back!”

The captain ordered again, and the soldiers quickly adjusted their positions, providing alternating cover as they retreated.

Behind them, the tunnel entrance was sealed off by spider silk, its green webbing coiling like venomous snakes, glowing with a sinister sheen.

A soldier attempted to use a grenade to blast open the passage, but the explosion only tore a small gap, a sight that sent a shudder through everyone’s hearts.

The strength and resilience of the web were beyond belief; under the force of the explosion, it sustained only slight damage, far surpassing the limits of conventional biological materials.

What was even more unsettling was that as soon as the gap appeared, the spiders moved swiftly to repair it, covering the damaged section with new silk.

The fresh threads were dense and sturdy, as if the break had never existed.

This web not only showcased incredible defensive capabilities but, with the spiders’ rapid repairs, became even more impenetrable, completely shattering the soldiers’ understanding of the natural world.

At that moment, a spider suddenly darted forward, its razor-sharp claw slicing through the air as it lunged directly at a soldier.

The soldier had no time to react before the spider’s claw slammed into his chest plate, knocking him to the ground with a heavy thud.

He tried to roll over and get up, but the spider’s sharp claw pierced through his arm with a sickening “shlunk,” pinning him brutally to the ground.

Green corrosive liquid sprayed from the spider’s maw, instantly coating his armor.

    “Sssss—”

The liquid rapidly ate through the armor, producing a sharp, grating hiss. His exposed skin was soon burned, leaving horrific charred scars.

    “Ahhh—!”

The soldier let out a blood-curdling scream, a sound so piercing it cut through the chaotic battlefield.

Several soldiers rushed to his aid, but other spiders quickly surrounded them, forcing them back.

Someone shouted in anger, their gun firing “bang! bang!” as they tried to use firepower to free their comrade.

However, the spiders showed no fear, blocking the bullets with their own bodies.

Green slime splattered onto the ground, landing with wet “plop, plop” sounds.

The air grew heavy with despair as the soldiers watched helplessly while the spider dragged their comrade’s body into the dense swarm.

The soldier’s screams, shrill and desperate, pierced through everyone’s nerves.

Eventually, the screams grew fainter and fainter until they disappeared entirely, leaving a suffocating sense of oppression echoing in everyone’s hearts.

The captain’s voice was cold and decisive, but a flicker of pain flashed in his eyes.

“We can’t save him! Keep retreating!”

The team gritted their teeth and pressed forward, their faces filled with anger and grief.

Their trigger fingers trembled slightly with rage, and the muzzle fire seemed to burn even fiercer.

One soldier tried to clear a side path with his shotgun, his movements skilled and swift.

But being overly focused on the enemies ahead made it easy to overlook the shadow above.

    "Splurt!"

A spider leaped down from the ceiling, its sharp claws piercing through the soldier’s back like blades, causing blood to gush out instantly.

The soldier let out a short, pained scream, and his shotgun hit the ground with a loud “clang” before sliding off to the side.

His night-vision goggles slipped from his head, falling onto the liquid-covered floor and shattering into pieces.

He struggled to turn around, but the spider’s second claw stabbed into his chest, pinning him firmly in place.

Several soldiers, ignoring the danger, raised their guns and fired, the bullets piercing through the spider’s exoskeleton, sending green liquid splattering everywhere.

However, more spiders surged forward, completely cutting off the injured soldier from the rest of the team.

Round after round tore through the spiders, but it was not enough to stop their relentless, tide-like advance.

The soldier’s hand clawed weakly at the ground before his figure was swallowed by the mass of writhing creatures.

    “We can’t give up—!”

One soldier, overcome with anger, tried to charge into the swarm to rescue his comrade.

But before he could finish his words, the vice-captain grabbed him:

    “Calm down! He’s already gone!”

The vice-captain growled, his voice hoarse with suppressed anguish.

"Use grenades and grenade launchers! Don’t let them get close!"

The captain shouted as he fired his assault rifle into the densest part of the swarm.

Muzzle flashes lit up one after another, slicing through the darkness like desperate beams of survival.

The front-line soldiers didn’t hesitate, throwing high-explosive grenades in quick succession!

    Boom! Boom! Boom!

Flames and shockwaves rippled through the entire passage.

A total of six high-explosive grenades tore through dozens of spiders, scattering limbs and green liquid that covered the ground, making it even more slippery and sticky.

Another soldier clenched his teeth, raised the grenade launcher, and aimed at the dense swarm of spiders ahead.

    “Thump! Thump!—Boom!”

Two grenades fired in quick succession, erupting into towering flames within the swarm.

Shattered spider limbs rained down like a storm, while nearby walls cracked under the force of the explosion.

"Quick! Use the rocket launcher!" one soldier yelled.

Another soldier reached for the launcher, ready to blow those damned things to pieces!

But the encroaching spider swarm pressed too close, leaving him no time to complete the setup.

He clenched his teeth and raised his rifle, resuming fire.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Despite their sustained suppressive fire, more spiders kept pouring in, gradually forming an endless torrent. A suffocating sense of despair began to spread.
