Chapter 1240:
It wasn’t just Kira’s technique that seemed off. Her performance appeared constrained and awkward, as if she might lose her bnce at any moment.
Merrick mused aloud, “She’s probably the mistress of some wealthy benefactor.”
Cliff kept his thoughts to himself.
Merrick didn’t seem put off by Cliff’s reticence. He remained quitefortable.
Merrick soonughed lightly and said, “The dancer on the far right, wearing the dress with pink hues, is quite good.”
Cliff’s expression subtly shifted.
“Yes.”
Encouraged by Cliff’s acknowledgment, Merrick asked, “Do you know her?”
“She’s my cousin.”
Merrick drew out a long “oh.”
“So, she’s your cousin.”
Cliff fell silent once more. Was it his imagination, or did Merrick just seem relieved?
As the performance concluded, the audience erupted in apuse.
Kira’s performance had been marred by nerves, leading to several errors. Earlier, she had been pped, leaving her dizzy and unsteady. During the final bow, she stumbled and fell. Some audience members gasped, while othersughed. Overwhelmed by humiliation, Kira hurried off the stage before the curtain call wasplete.
In contrast, Laney maintained her poise, wlessly executing thest steps and exiting with the ensemble.

Backstage, Kira was inconsble, weeping in her sister’s arms and cursing Laney between sobs. Laney walked past without acknowledging themotion, heading straight to remove her makeup and change.
Kira’s anger escted with her tears, throwing a tantrum and urging Juliet to seek revenge.
“Was that p directed at me? It was an affront to the Foster family and to you. If Laney respected you, she wouldn’t dare hit me at all,” Kira argued.
“Juliet, you have to take action against her. Where will this end if it continues?”
Juliet was troubled by Kira’s words. She knew Laney was bold and had strong backing, but confronting Cliff was no simple matter. Kira implored, “Juliet, please avenge me…”
Taking a deep breath, Juliet said, “We need a strategy that involves Cliff. Without his support, Laney won’t be so bold.”
A thought struck Kira, wiping her tears away.
“Juliet, you’re about to be engaged to Cliff, and he’s just taken on a new role. It’s a critical time, right?”
“Yes, why?”
Kira’s eyes sparkled with cunning.
“I have an idea.”
After changing, Laney realized her phone was missing. She searched thoroughly but to no avail. Returning to the dressing room, she found it deserted, as everyone had left for dinner with their families. Kailyn was also gone.
Remembering that her family was waiting, Laney felt a surge of anxiety. In her haste, she rounded a corner and collided with someone holding a bouquet, scattering petals.
