Chapter 5: Public Enemies

I ran to the conference room as fast as I could and managed to get there in time for the briefing on what was going on. In the room there was a round table, where everyone sat, while we waited for Agent X to arrive. A few moments later, the mustachioed man entered the room and stood on the other side of the room with a worried look on his face.

In silence, we all exchanged worried glances, waiting for Agent X to soon begin explaining what was really going on.

"First of all, congratulations on passing the final test, Agent G." said the old man, giving an approving gesture with his hand, "But I''m afraid I have some bad news to share with everyone here today…"

    "T-thanks, man - I mean - Agent X."

    Then he walked over to the image projector in the corner and began showing us several slides of top secret photos, as he began his explanation;

"We have been informed by our superiors at The Enigma that the Rogues are in action now."

"What do you mean by that, sir?" Link then asked, his face worried.

"The gang unfortunately discovered that Chadwick Donovan, known among them as Big C, was actually an undercover agent for our organization." he explained the situation, as he walked around us, "And now they''re holding him hostage in the abandoned Sector 3 of the city''s subway station."

Wait a moment... So Chad is Big C? N-No, that can''t be! Pfff...

"What about Lil D?" Bella questioned.

    Lil D?! LIL ''D''?! LMAO!

"Pfft- Ahem..." I had to ask, "Who exactly is Lil D, again?"

"He''s the leader of the Rogues gang and one of the most dangerous men alive."

Agent X then handed over some documents about the Rogues gang, which showed several photos of a tall, muscular black man with eccentric clothes and dyed hair, who was their leader. He was Richard Handler, known in the underworld only as ''Lil D''.

NO FUCKING WAY! So the poor guy''s name was literally Dick Handler...

"Richard?" I was already turning red from holding back my laughter, "Pffffff... I-I see..."

At that moment it was getting harder and harder for me to hold back, while I was faced with all those brilliant nicknames.

"So, like I was saying... Lil D found out that his rival, Big C, was a secret agent and captured him." X continued with his slideshow, detailing exactly the locations he was talking about, "He gave his henchmen the order to take Agent C to that isolated area and wait for the order to execute him."

"That''s fucked up." was the pertinent comment I made, adding depth to the conversation.

"And that''s why I''m going to split you all into two teams, to infiltrate and save Agent C before it''s too late."

Oh shit! Let me be on the same team as Lincoln, please... DO NOT TEAM ME UP WITH BELLA!

"Agent B will go with Agent G to Subway Sector 3 to rescue Agent C from his captors."

    Holy crap, man... FUCKING !!

"Agent L and Agent P will go to the secret location where Lil D was lured by Big C as a disinformation countermeasure. There, you two will remain hidden and observe the place, alerting us the moment the thug''s leader arrives."

"Yes, Agent X." Link seemed somewhat excited about this mission.

    "Understood, sir."

    "Understood."

Penny and Bella responded together, almost in unison.

"The exact coordinates of both locations have already been sent to your respective GPS devices." Agent X turned away from us, while watching one of his surveillance monitors, "The time has come, go my children!"

Uh... Go my children? That was, um... A little weird, I''m not gonna lie.

Regardless, we promptly prepared to begin our mission. I was in a perfect mix of excitement and fear, since this would be my first mission within the organization. However, just as I prepared to leave the room through the door, Bella grabbed me by the shoulder.

"Where do you think you''re going, idiot?"Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.

"What now? I thought we were going to our mission?"

"Yes, but we''ll take the elevator." she pointed to an elevator door that was opening in one of the walls, very well camouflaged by the paint.

"Wow, I didn''t even see it there this whole time!"

"Here, G." Link led me in first, "This elevator will take us straight to the garage under the barn."

    That was really useful, damn!

So we took the elevator right into the secret garage, which was full of black armored vehicles, located right under the barn. Agents L and P went towards one of the cars, while Agent B and I went to another one.

"You drive!" she told me, tossing me the car keys she was holding.

    "Bossy as always, huh?"

Holy shit, me and my big mouth!

"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!" her voice became harsh and a vein began to pop on her forehead.

    "N-Nothing!"

"Come on, we don''t have time to waste!"

"Okay, okay... Alright, let''s go." I said as I started the car''s engines, eager to finally be able to drive a car as powerful as that one.

As soon as we both started our engines, a ramp began to form at the end of the garage, at the same time a part of the roof began to open above it. It was our secret exit that took us right next to the barn, directly to the dirt road that led back to town.

I simply took a few deep breaths and then accelerated the very responsive car I was driving as the two of us left the farm behind and followed the coordinates that were displayed on our vehicle''s GPS.

Eventually, Link and I parted ways since we had different goals. I couldn''t help but wonder what might be waiting for me in the distant Sector 3 of Havenfield''s complex subway system.

    ***

After a few really awkward minutes of complete silence, Bella and I arrived at the entrance to Section 3 of the subway, which was quite far from the city center. I parked right in front of the stairs that led down to the station, and it''s fair to note that this was a fairly new station that was still under construction.

However, since it was already late at night, there weren''t any workers around to be seen, so we were on our own.

"This is it, I think..." I said, trying to start a conversation as I got out of the car.

"The GPS got us here, so I''m sure it''s the right place." Agent B replied calmly, as she also got out of the car and closed the door.

"Yeah, but... How do we proceed?" I scratched my head, "Do we just go down the stairs in the open, like this?"

At that moment, I realized that she had been scanning the area around us the whole time, paying close attention to our surroundings.

"This is really weird..." she whispered to herself, "There must be bad guys all over the place."

Heh, I think I might be a genius.

"Um... Agent B, let''s think about this for a second." as I continued my train of thought; "If this was supposed to be a digression from the Rogues'' real objective, it makes sense that their ''workforce'' is probably somewhere else right now."

"You may be right, my dear subordinate." she gave me an approving smile, "But we should stop talking and leave. Agent C is being held hostage somewhere down there!"

You didn''t need to remind me of that detail, because I did not forget it. I don''t think I have Alzheimer''s... Well, at least not yet!

    "Let''s go!"

    "Yeah!"

Then the two of us walked down the stairs to the subway, being very careful with each step we took. The silence was very eerie, so much so that it actually made me feel uneasy.

    "There''s no one around, huh?"

"It seems you were right, but we still need to find out where Agent C is located."

Alright, let''s think about that as we survey our dimly lit surroundings. There''s no one anywhere to be seen, as we can only see what appears to be an ordinary subway station that is still under construction. HOWEVER, when I looked closer to the opposite side of where we were, I saw what appeared to be a door that led to an ''STAFF ONLY'' room in the back.

"Over there, Agent B!" I pointed to the spot, making sure not to raise my voice any more than necessary, "It''s a very obvious place, I know, but... If my theory is correct, this is just a way for them to waste our time while they escape somewhere else."

"Go check it out for yourself, then."

    "Me? L-Like... Alone?!"

"It''s your plan, my dear subordinate." the woman''s characteristic sadistic look immediately returned to her face, "I''ll be right behind to cover you."

    "Oh... Okay then..."

Damn, I knew she hated me, but holy fuck! There was nothing else we could do anyways, so I slowly approached the door and opened it, recounting my life in Bella''s cover.

The room was dark and smelled of mold, but in the corner I could see the silhouette of someone who was seemingly fidgeting in the darkness.

    "H-Hello?"

    "Mmmmpf!!"

The person tried to answer me, but their voice was clearly muffled by some kind of gag.

I looked for a light switch and turned on the lights, revealing that in the small room there was only me and this long-haired man, who was gagged and completely tied up. He must have been there for a while, and I was sure that it was Agent C.

"Hang on, I''m going to untie you..." as I promptly began to untie him, but before I did, I removed his gag, which was covering his mouth.

"Ouch!" he whimpered, as I removed the tape that held the gag in place.

    "S-Sorry!"

"This is just a bait!" he immediately started yelling at me, "You must go and help the others!"

"I''m glad to see that you''re okay, Agent C." Bella surprised us, as she stood in front of the door.

"Agent B, the others are in great danger!" the man was getting more and more desperate; "You have to go and help them, now!"

Well, it seems that I was right all along! Who could blame me for being so awesome?

"You were right in your decision, Agent G." she told me, as she walked away from the door, "I already told the extraction team that the area is clear, so they''re already on their way to take Agent C back to the Academy."

"So what''s the plan now?" I asked.

"Let''s hurry up and meet the others at their coordinates." she replied with a straight face, "They were expecting Lil D to come alone... But it looks like he''ll bring his men with him."

"GO, YOU TWO!" Agent C pleaded, "I''ll wait for the rescue team here, don''t worry."

"Okay." Agent B then turned to me, "Let''s go, my dear subordinate!"

Shit... The situation just keeps getting worse and worse, huh?

"Got it, ma''am!" I replied, as the two of us ran back to our vehicle, leaving a frail Agent C behind.

So, once we had finished entering the new coordinates into the vehicle''s GPS, I stepped on the gas as quickly as I could.

We were now heading somewhere far from the city, which was believed to be some sort of clandestine airport in an open field. Link and Penny were probably already there, so we had to hurry and catch up to them before it was too late.
