Chapter 61

Rosa clearly paused for a moment. She nced at Evelyn and couldn''t help feeling joy in her heart. Evelyn had finally stopped swallowing all her grievances and had learned to speak up.

    Good.

The reassurance in Rosa''s eyes turned sharp as she looked up, her gaze cutting towards Dahlia like a knife.

Dahlia was already intimidated by Rosa. She felt her heart sink as Evelyn deliberately drew her attention. Despite her seething frustration, she was powerless. She could only quietly tug at Charles'' sleeve and whisper, "Charles," hoping he would stand up for her. But she received no response.

She quietly looked up and met Charles'' cold gaze.

Dahlia''s heart skipped a beat, and then it sank. She quickly lowered her eyes, her mind racing.

When she looked up again, tears welled up, and she said in a pitiful voice, "Evelyn, I''m really sorry. I was just so worried about Sandy earlier, and I spoke without thinking. I didn''t mean to."

Her words were meant more for Charles than Evelyn. Charles'' expression softened a lot. He clearly believed Dahlia''s exnation. He gave Evelyn a look briefly, signaling her to stop there.

A sh of coldness passed through Evelyn''s eyes. Dahlia''s casual apology was meant to lightly gloss over everything. The injustice Evelyn suffered, being dragged into the fray, was deemed trivial. Pretending not to understand Charles'' intention, Evelyn suddenly stood up, walked over to Dahlia, and raised her hand.

    "p "

    "p "

She quicklynded two ps on Dahlia''s face.

After hitting her, with eyes also reddened and looking pitiful, she said to the stunned Dahlia. "Dahlia, I''m really sorry. I didn''t mean to."

Her tone, much like Dahlia''s, seemed apologetic but felt far from sincere.

"Evelyn!" Charles became angry, grabbing Evelyn''s wrist firmly.

The pain on Dahlia''s face brought her back to reality. Her eyes reddened from the ps. Forgetting the situation, she eximed, "Evelyn, how dare you hit me!"

    Standing up, she attempted to

retaliate against Evelyn. Her hand had barely lifted when it was met with a harsh strike from a walking stick. The pain caused her to retract her hand with a cry.

Rosa''s stern voice followed. "Don''t you dare touch Eve!"

"Grandma, Evelyn hit me first!" Dahlia, with her cheeks swollen and eyes red with anger, was extremely aggrieved.

"That''s because you falsely used her first. Eve is not someone who starts trouble without reason."

Rosa showed tant favoritism towards Evelyn.

Evelyn''s eyes welled up with tears

she barely held back. In the five

years Rosa was away, she had

suffered too many grievances in the Jenkins family. Only Rosa would

believe in her and favor her

    unconditionally.

"And stop calling me your grandma."

Rosa had no affection for Dahlia. She held Evelyn''s hand. "Eve, as long as I am here, no one will dare to bully you."

Dahlia was furious but dared not express it. She could only y the victim, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked pitifully at Charles, embodying the image of an vulnerable girl.

    Rosa was utterly disgusted. She

returned to her seat at the head of

the table, her gaze coldly sweeping

over Carmen and Charles. She struck the ground heavily with her walking stick and demanded sternly, "Who allowed Dahlia toe in? Didn''t I say as long as I''m here for a day, she''s not to step foot into the Jenkins family''s door? What, have I grown so old that my words no longer carry weight in this house?"
