Chapter 139

What Evelyn cared about most was Charlie. As long as Charles had Charlie in his grip, he had her, too. It was all part of his master n. He never once thought about Charlie''s own feelings.

Evelyn looked up, locked eyes with Charles, and said slowly, emphasizing each word, "Charles, listen up. I''m not your property, and Charlie isn''t your bargaining chip!"

Herst words were almost spat out, her heart heavy with bitterness. She couldn''t stop her eyes from welling up.

"Charles, why could Charlie have a dad like you?"

Charlie was just five, and this was the first time Charles imed he missed her. However, it wasn''t because he longed to see her. It was all for his own gain.

"What? After five years, you suddenly think I''m not good enough and want to find Charlie a new dad? Did you even ask Charlie? Would she agree?"

Charles'' presence was intimidating. Was Evelyn really catching feelings for Brooks and going to be with him?

"Evelyn, Charlie only sees me as her dad. She won''t ept anyone else as her dad. Forget about recing me. She won''t stand for it!"

Charles'' words were icy, cutting through Evelyn. She felt a chill deep in her soul. Her eyes were red. "Charles, so you do realize how much Charlie loves and cares about you as her dad? But what about these past five years? Have you been the father she deserves?" She knew it wasn''t worth it. He didn''t deserve it. Still, she saw Charles'' smug attitude and couldn''t hold back. She could brush off her past pain, but when it came to her little girl, she just wanted to stand up for her.

"Have you ever truly cared about Charlie?"

Those words left Charles speechless. Over the past five years, he really had neglected Charlie. "Evelyn, why wouldn''t I care about Charlie? Don''t you know why?" Charles shot back coldly. Evelyn closed her eyes tight. She shouldn''t have asked.

In Charles'' mind, his neglect was all her fault. It was she who drugged him, resulting in Charlie, a child he never nned for. It was Evelyn''s wrong influence that made him grow distant from Charlie.

He wasn''t at fault. Dahlia wasn''t at fault. Sandy wasn''t at fault.

The only one to me was her, Evelyn.

Well, Evelyn''s biggest mistake was falling for him, hoping time and again for his love!

Over these five years, she thought he would see the good in her and Charlie if she gave enough. She was so wrong. "Get out."

    Evelyn didn''t want to exchange

another word with Charles. In her et

anger, she found the strength to

push Charles aside. She opened the door and stormed out.

Charles thought his words hit home, making Evelyn unable to argue back. He reached out instinctively to stop her from leaving.

    "Evelyn, where''s Charlie?"

Evelyn swung the door open and hit Charles with it.

Charles winced, pulling back his hand. His eyes were filled with cold

fury. He watched Evelyn walk on bet

the room and said icily, "You can''t

    keep her hidden for long."

Evelyn couldn''t be bothered to respond. She was curious, wondering if one day he''d wake up and realize that Charlie was gone because he failed to show up. And then he''d see just how foolish he was right now!

Dahlia and Sena strolled into Brody''s private room together, carrying birthday gifts.
