Chapter 159

He would kick out his dreary old wife and three daughters to make room for some young, beautiful girl who could bear a son for him. That was all he could think about. He strutted back to his motorcycle, pletely ignoring Evelyn, and sped off into the distance. Evelyny there on the ground, watching helplessly as the motorcycle, carrying thest remnants of Charlie''s promise. As it faded from her view, tears trickled down her cheeks. "Charlie..."

Seconds turned into minutes as Evelyny on the cold, unforgiving ground, her body slowly numbing from the chill. Her tears dried, then welled up again, a never-ending cycle. After what felt like an eternity, she drifted into unconsciousness and slipped into aa.

    ...

As soon as Aiden got Charles'' call, he rushed over to Evelyn''s location. But when he arrived, she was nowhere to be seen.

Aiden got out of his car. He called out Evelyn''s name, searching both sides of the road, and there was no answer. Heading back to his car, he tried calling Charles, but the call went unanswered until it disconnected on its own.

He remembered that before Charles had asked him to pick up Evelyn, he''d instructed him to send someone to rescue Dahlia first. Charles was probably not picking up because he was busy taking care of Dahlia.

Aiden decided not to try again. Instead, he nned to contact others to help find Evelyn. He''d always assumed Charles didn''t care much for Evelyn, but after witnessing Charles bend his own rules for her at Greenrose, he realized she was important to him-more so than even Dahlia, who was supposed to be the love of his life.

Evelyn couldn''t be left in danger!

Just as Aiden was about to make some calls, a ck Maybach came speeding towards him. With a screech, it halted right beside him.

    "Mr. Brooks," Aiden greeted.

Brooks didn''t waste time with words; he headed straight for Aiden''s car.

"Evelyn," he said, expecting her to be inside. But to his surprise, the car was empty.

Evelyn had called him, and before the call dropped, he''d heard Charles'' name. He realized he hadn''t been wrong at the club-Evelyn was indeed in Charles'' car. He was supposed to pick her up from work tonight for dinner, but she''d told him she had other ns. To Evelyn, their rtionship was just a charade, and he''d respected her boundaries without prying into her affairs.

Now, Brooks regretted not following his instincts and going after her.

With a sharp look, Brooks turned to Aiden, demanding, "Where''s Evelyn?"

Aiden, seeing no reason to hold back, replied, "Mr. Jenkins asked me toe here to pick up Ms. Evelyn, but she wasn''t here."

    Brooks'' face turned even grimmer.

His car hadn''t been far behind

Aiden''s, and he hadn''t seen any other vehicles on the way. Evelyn couldn''t have hitchhiked back to the city Now she''s missing and it only pointed to one thing-trouble.

Brooks studied the thick forest surrounding them, then pulled out his phone, barking into it, "Get a helicopter over here, pronto."

    ...

Not long after Evelyn slipped into a

His eyes widened, his heart momentarily ceasing its beat. The helicopter descended, and Brooks leaped down, nding securely beside Evelyn.
