Chapter 172

Whether Sandy was truly Dahlia''s daughter was still up in the air, but one thing was certain-she couldn''t be Charles'' kid. It made you wonder, given how Charles showered Sandy with love while practically ignoring Charlie. If Charles ever found out that the girl he

cherished wasn''t his own flesh and blood, would he regret the way he treated Charlie?

Evelyn figured she wouldn''t even get the chance to exin before Charles decided she was lying because she couldn''t stand Dahlia and her daughter. So, instead of heading straight to Charles, Evelyn left the hospital. Just as she stepped outside, a sleek ck Maybach rolled up, stopping right in front of her. Brooks, ever the gentleman, hopped out to open the door for her and made sure she got in safely.

Once inside, Brooks handed Evelyn a new smartphone. "Got your SIM card sorted," he said.

"Thanks," Evelyn replied, epting the phone. Her old one had taken a dip and was smashed beyond repair the night before, so she''d nned to get a recement after leaving the hospital. It turned out that Brooks had already taken care of it.

"Brooks, I''ve transfered the money for the phone to your ount," she said, tapping away on the phone to make the payment.

Brooks didn''t argue, though his eyes darkened a shade. "Is this hospital part of the Robinson family''s empire?" Evelyn asked.

"What are you nning?" Brooks inquired gently.

"Could you get me a sample of Sandy''s blood?" she asked. Sandy had been injured and undergone tests, which meant there had to be a blood sample.

"Sure thing." Brooks didn''t question her motives. He simply nodded and made a quick call, and soon after, Sandy''s blood sample was in Evelyn''s hands. Now, she just needed Charles'' sample for the paternity test.

    ...

Once Sandy was discharged, Charles took Dahlia to the Jenkins Estate for dinner. It was a small affair. Only Patrick, Rosa, Carmen, and Evelyn were there. Sena had been sent to jail, but Carmen tearfully got her out and shipped her overseas. Charles hadn''t expected to see Evelyn. His eyes lingered on her for a moment before he turned away, acting like it was no big deal. After a brief introduction, he got straight to the point, "I''m nning to get engaged to Dahlia."

Dahlia shot a quick nce at Evelyn. She''s seated next to Rosa with her head down. She wasn''t making eye contact, and her expression was hard to read.

"Are you certain?" Patrick asked, his voice carrying weight.

    "Yes," Charles replied firmly.

Charles had taken over the Jenkins family three years ago, and initially, Patrick wasn''t keen on Dahlia. But Charles was adamant about marrying her. Patrick gave in after Dahlia won a top jewelry designpetition and joined Carlisle Jewels. Dahlia was a promising asset to Charles.

    4.

"Dahlia, don''t let me down," Patrick warned.

"Patrick, I promise I won''t," Dahlia replied confidently.

Rosa wasn''t fond of Dahlia, but she saw how smitten Charles was and decided to stay out of it. "Charles, I don''t care who you marry. While everyone''s here, I have an announcement to make. The 28th of this month is a special day. I be hosting a ceremony at Cloud Top Vi to formally adopt Eve as my granddaughter. From now on, she''ll be Miss Jenkins."

Rosa had floated the idea of adopting Evelyn when Brooks and Evelyn met on that blind date, but she hadn''t set a date until now. Deep down, Rosa still hoped Evelyn and Charles might end up together. She''d dyed the adoption, hoping for a change of heart. Today, Charles brought Dahlia to the Jenkins family estate, and it was clear he''d made his choice. Rosa wouldn''t let Dahlia overshadow Evelyn. Patrick and Carmen didn''t seem too thrilled, but before they could protest, Rosa dered, "I''ve made up my mind."

Evelyn wanted to speak up, but Rosa

squeezed her hand in reassurance. Charles'' eyes were dark and

    unreadable as they flicked over

Evelyn. Seeing her stay silent, h

expression grew colder. The decision to adopt Evelyn as granddaughter pleased Rosa, but it also pleased Dahlia even more.
