Chapter 320

Not to mention, it was her.

When it came to Dahlia, Charles always had her back. "I can''t possibly let him out to hurt you," Charles insisted.

"Charles, haven''t you been the one to hurt me the most?" Evelyn shot back, her words as cold as ice.

Charles looked visibly ufortable. "What do you want me to do to make it up to you?"

    "Stay out of Wesley''s business."

Evelyn wasn''t the emotional wreck she had been two years ago, demanding Charles and Dahlia pay for their wrongs. She had been waiting for him to make things right.

"You want to make it up to me, right? How can you not agree to something so simple?" Evelyn''s voice was even colder now,ced with a hint of sarcasm.

Charles studied Evelyn. Her gaze was calm, not just a ploy to avoid entanglements. She genuinely wanted Wesley out. But why?

    "Alright."

Seeing her determination, Charles gave in. Satisfied with his answer, Evelyn turned to leave.

Just then, her phone rang. Seeing it was the hospital, she picked up immediately.

It was the nurse caring for Josephine, her voice urgent. "Ms. Evelyn, you need toe to the hospital quickly; your mother has been taken to the emergency room..."

The word "emergency room" sent Evelyn into a daze; her legs turned to jelly, and she nearly fell.

Charles caught her just in time, steadying her in his arms.

Evelyn tried to stay calm, but her emotions got the better of her. Memories flooded back-two years ago, Charlie had gone into the emergency room and never

returned. A chill swept over her.

She pushed Charles away, stumbling towards the door.

"I''ll drive you to the hospital," Charles said firmly, having overheard the call. He wrapped his arm around her, guiding her unsteady steps amid her overwhelming worry.

Evelyn didn''t have the energy to

resist or refuse. Her mind was solely focused on her mother in the emergency room. She knew it was pouring outside, and getting a cab would be tough. In her state driving was out of the question.

Charles led her to the car, shielding her from the rain. "Eve, which hospital is your mom at?" he asked as they pulled out of the parking lot.

Evelyn named the hospital, and Charles drove there without needing GPS.

By the time they reached the hospital, Evelyn had calmed down a bit. As soon as

the car stopped, she jumped out and rushed inside. Charles parked and hurried after her.

They made their way to the

    emergency room, Evelyn leading the

way. "Auntie Fang, has the doctor

about my mom?" she asked the

nurse waiting outside, her eyes red and worried.

"No, Ms. Evelyn, but don''t worry. Your mom will be okay," the nurse tried to reassure her.

Evelyn nodded, choking back a sob, her eyes locked on the emergency room doors.

"Eve, don''t worry. I''m here," Charles said softly, trying tofort her.

Evelyn ignored him. When Charles tried to put an arm around her, she stepped away. He didn''t push further, just stood by her side, waiting.

The emergency room doors suddenly opened. Evelyn rushed forward, "Doctor, how is my mother?"

"The situation is quite critical," Dr. Andrew said, casting a nce at Charles behind Evelyn and giving him a nod.

Evelyn''s face turned pale at the word "critical," and she swayed. Charles steadied her with a hand on her waist, keeping her upright.
