《MMORPG: I was BUGGED》
Chapter 1: The Long Slumber Ends
Chapter 1: The Long Slumber Ends ? ?
Tubes and wires snaked their way across Xin''s body, connecting him to the pulsating rhythm of life-sustaining equipment. The steady symphony of beeps and hums filled the room, merging into an otherworldly melody that reverberated within his consciousness.
As he gingerly opened his eyes, a veil of confusion and disorientation shrouded his thoughts. The harsh re of fluorescent lights pierced his vision.
A surge of panic coursed through his veins when he attempted to speak, only to be met with silence. His vocal cords betrayed him, emitting only a rasping rasp that scratched against his throat.
W-wha . . . what happened?
His parched lips struggled to form words, the muscles having forgotten to shape sounds.
With wide eyes filled with equal parts fear and curiosity, Xin gazed at his surroundings, searching for answers in the somber stillness.
He stumbled upon a familiar face. His mother.
She looked aged. Nearing her forties, her once supple face was dry. Dark bugs stretched her eyes down, and she looked thinner, pale, and sickly.
"Mm . . . mom . . ." Xin''s hand reached out.
Evelyn rose, the chair scraping the floor from her haste. Her tears were falling down her cheeks as she opened the door and shouted.
"Doctor! Doctor! My son! My son has woken up!"
As Xiny there, his consciousness gradually emerging from the depths of slumber, he found himself caught in the ebb and flow of his mother''s conversation with the doctor.
Their words melded into a symphony of concern and medical jargon, yet amidst the confusion, fragments of memories began to resurface, crashing against the shores of his mind with painful intensity. It was as if each recollection carried the weight of an ocean wave, threatening to overwhelm him.
He remembered the incident that had robbed him of four precious years of his life ¡ª a simple misstep on a flight of stairs, a collision with an unyielding stone that had sent his world spiraling into darkness.
How could a single ident exact such a heavy toll?
The enormity of the loss seemed iprehensible, an unjust twist of fate that defied logic.
Yet, as Xin absorbed the realization, time seemed to blur and warp, the boundaries of past and present blending together. Four yearspressed into a fleeting moment as if the passage of time had been suspended, frozen in hazy memory.
It felt as though the events of that fateful day had urred only yesterday, refusing to release their grip on his brain.
Confusion etched lines upon his brow as he struggled to reconcile the disparity between the years stolen and the sensation that they had been but a brief sliver of time. The gap in his memory left an ache in his heart, a void that yearned to be filled.
There were things he did understand, though. One, he still couldn''t leave the hospital. They still had to run some checks on him and do some therapy so he could be integrated into society as if nothing had happened.
And two . . . his mother must have paid millions in these four years to keep him alive. But where did she get the money?
They weren''t rich, and his mother was the only sole provider in the family. He didn''t know his father. He had left them before they were even born.
Evelyn worked as a secretary in a multibillion corporation. Though she earned decently, there was no way that she could afford this.
A sudden burst of energy shattered the tranquility of the room as the door swung open, revealing a young woman with vibrant fake golden locks cascading down her waist and captivating ocean-blue eyes.
"Mom!" she eximed, her voice brimming with excitement. "Did Xin really wake up?!"
Their gazes locked, and in that instant, Xin''s heart stirred with recognition. It was his twin sister, Xiaxia, standing before him.
Time seemed to stand still as their eyes met, and a rush of memories flooded his mind. They had once been inseparable, two halves of a whole, but a rift had driven them apart, casting a shadow over their rtionship.
Where Xin had been guarded and distant, Xiaxia was a ray of sunshine, radiating warmth and exuberance like the ever-changing bold color of her hair. Her infectious cheerfulness had always been the antidote to his solemnity.
However, their bond had fractured, leaving them adrift in separate worlds.
Yet, as tears welled in Xiaxia''s eyes and streamed down her face, realization dawned upon Xin.
In that vulnerable moment, the barriers that had divided them melted away, and a flicker of the past rekindled within his heart.
"Y-you . . ." Xiaxia''s quivering chin betrayed her attempts to contain the torrent of tears streaming down her face.
Without a moment''s hesitation, she rushed to Xin''s side, her anguish finding release in a forceful p against his head.
"You IDIOT! How can you slip and fall into ama?! I thought that you''re the careful one here?!"
The room erupted in a flurry ofmotion as Xin recoiled from the unexpected blow. Evelyn shot up from her seat in rm and shouted, "Xiaxia!"
The doctor caught off guard, stood frozen in his ce, his shock mirrored on his face.
Xin''s lips parted his instinct to protest halted by the piercing gaze of his tearful sister. Wide-eyed, he absorbed the impact of her words, unable to look away from the depths of her sorrow. The sting of the p was nothingpared to the anguish etched upon her face.
Struggling to wipe away her tears, Xiaxia choked on her words, "Don''t you know how worried we were? You idiot. They said that you''ll never wake up. They said that you''re already dead, but we refuse to believe it . . . four years . . . Four years of waiting, hoping, and praying . . . You reckless fool."
Xin''s heart melted. "S . . . S-so . . . rry . . ."
Xiaxia''s palm swiftly connected with his head once more, the force of the p reverberating through the room, almost rattling his skull.
"The HELL you are!"
Evelyn couldn''t contain her exasperation any longer. Her voice rose in a resounding yell.
"XIAXIA!"
Chapter 2: Whispers of Longing and Uncertainty
Chapter 2: Whispers of Longing and Uncertainty ? ?
Time slipped away like a fleeting dream, and a week had whisked by before he knew it.
Xin''s therapy had made steady progress, evident in his newfound ability to walk without stumbling, write with steady hands, and speak without the burden of gasping for breath.
To Xiaxia, the improvements seemed almost futile. Her brother had always been a man of few words, choosing silence as his preferredpanion long before thea had imed him.
His reserved nature and inscrutable expression had often frustrated her, leaving her longing for a glimpse beneath the mask he wore.
She could understand him even without the words, though. They were twins, after all. She understood him the most.
Even now, as Xin regained his physical capabilities, his demeanor remained unchanged. His face remained an enigmatic canvas, betraying no hint of the thoughts and emotions swirling within.
As the sunlight gently filtered through the curtains, illuminating the room, Xiaxia, sat at the bedside, methodically peeling an apple. Her eyes were filled with a mix of concern and curiosity as she broke the silence that enveloped them.
"What are you going to do once you''re out of here?" she inquired. With their mother absent, Xiaxia had taken on the role of caregiver, shouldering the responsibility of tending to Xin''s needs.
Xin''s gaze was fixed on the glowing screen of his phone, absentmindedly twirled a long strand of his stark white hair between his fingers. His lips twitched with a hint of contemtion as he pondered her question, his mind searching for an answer amidst the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions that consumed him.
A faint sigh escaped his lips as he finally responded, his voice carrying a trace of uncertainty, "I''ll . . . think about it."
With his long hair cascading past his waist, Xin thought of the idea of getting a haircut first once he was free from the confines of the hospital.
He idly twirled a strand of his pristine white locks, knowing all too well that Xiaxia held a deep disdain for their unusual hair color. It had often been the target of teasing from their peers, and does Xiaxia opted to wear bold color to escape suchments and attention.
Their mother, who possessed a natural mane of rich brown hair, had clearly not passed down this distinctive trait. The origins of their striking hair colory in their father, a topic Xin had long chosen to avoid delving into.
The thought of their father''s absence and the mysteries surrounding him brought a pang of difort to Xin''s heart, and he quickly pushed it aside.
"You could start school again," Xiaxia proposed. "You could take an advancement exam and break free from the confines of the same year."
Xin listened intently to her words, his expression unreadable. Deep down, he understood the significance of her suggestion. While she and his peers had already embarked on the journey of college life, he was left behind, frozen in time by the four-year gap that had stolen away his youth.
It was a bitter reality that he had to confront.
The idea of returning to school at the same year before he had an ident didn''t sit well with him. He contemted the possibility of taking an advanced exam, an opportunity to bridge the gap and catch up to his peers.
However, he knew the limitations of such an endeavor. Even if sessful, it would only propel him forward by a mere two years, leaving him perpetually trailing behind.
A heavy weight settled upon Xin''s shoulders as he grappled with the disheartening truth. The world had moved on without him, leaving him in a state of suspended progression.
The thought of returning to high school while his peers ventured into the realms of higher education gnawed at his self-esteem.
Xin dispersed the depressive thought. He should be d that he was still alive.
He paused when he stumbled upon a familiar name on his phone.
"Hey, are you listening to me?" Xiaxia asked, "I said that you don''t have to think so hard. It''s still early in the semester, and if you pass the advancement exam, you can join me at Fate Academy."
"Where''s Meilyn?" Xin asked instead.
The room was suddenly filled with a sharp, jarring sound as metal knives shed together, drawing Xin''s attention towards his sister.
Xiaxia''s countenance had darkened, her face etched with tension as she gritted her teeth in frustration.
"Forget about her," she dered forcefully, her wordsced with an unmistakable disdain.
Xin''s eyes met Xiaxia''s. He knew all too well that his sister held no fondness for Meilyn, but he couldn''t help himself. Meilyn was his girlfriend, after all.
"When will shee?" Xin pressed on, undeterred by his sister''s outburst which he dismissed as a mere disy of immaturity.
Xiaxia''s frustration grew evident as she red at him, but Xin''s expression remained impassive, determined to get an answer.
Avoiding his gaze, Xiaxia huffed, her voice filled with a mix of annoyance and disappointment. "No, she hasn''t visited you in nearly three years."
Perplexed, Xin persisted. "But why?"
Exasperated, Xiaxia clenched her fists and let out a frustrated growl. "Stop asking me about her!"
She abruptly stood up and stormed out of the room, the sound of the door mming echoing through the air. But before the door shutpletely, she couldn''t resist one final outburst.
"Forget about that girl! She''s the reason why you ended up in this state, you fool! She doesn''t care about you anymore!"
The words from Xiaxia reverberated in his mind, drowning out the echoing sound of the door.
''She doesn''t care about you anymore!''
Xin couldn''t ept her deration.
Despite the forcefulness of her statement, he couldn''t bring himself to believe it. Meilyn was more than just a girlfriend; she was a childhood friend. They had shared countless moments together, long before she gathered the courage to ask him out.
''Even if you don''t want me anymore . . . I''ll still be here for you.''
Those were the words she often spoke.
The image of her warm smile and kind eyes remained etched vividly in his mind.
It was as if it had happened just yesterday. He recalled the day he was runningte for their date, rushing to their designated meeting spot when he had slipped and fell.
Yet, he had never held her responsible for the mishap.
Not even for a moment.
Driven by a surge of longing, he instinctively reached out and pressed the call button, his eyes shimmering with a glimmer of hope.
Time seemed to slow down, each passing second feeling like an eternity as he anxiously waited for the connection to be established.
But instead of the familiar ringtone or the sound of her voice filling the air, a cold and detached robotic voice abruptly shattered the silence.
''The number is out of service.''
His heart plummeted, sinking like an anchor into the depths of his chest.
But he couldn''t me her if she moved on and forgot about him. He was dead four years ago and might never wake up. Who would want to stake their future on a person who might never wake up?
The uncertainty and depression might have taken a toll on her, and it would have been better if she did move on and continued with her life if that would make her happy.
Despite the disappointment, Xin''s longing to see Meilyn remained unabated. A flicker of hope danced in his eyes as he contemted the idea of paying her a visit at her house when he got out of the hospital.
The thought of their potential encounter brought a small, tender smile to his lips, a rarity in his recent days of solitude. The mere prospect of seeing her again stirred a mix of emotions within him, and an unfamiliar sense of excitement bloomed in his chest.
As he envisioned their reunion, a surge of anticipation coursed through his veins. It had been so long since he had felt this kind of eagerness. The possibility of reconnecting with Meilyn ignited a spark within him, dispelling the heaviness that had lingered for too long.
Xin paused when he saw something popping on his notification.
[Guildbane: Battle for Domination''s four-year anniversary event ising!]
Guildbane?
When he recalled before hisma, that virtual game was heavily promoted and popr to the masses.
He wasn''t into games, so he wasn''t interested at that time, but now . . . it was all the news talk about.
Xin turned off his phone and decided to sleep.
He was too tiredtely, maybe because of his medications.
Falling asleep, he dreamt of the time when he was with Meilyn.
Those were the happiest days of his life and the only time that he could show emotion, even a little bit.
He and Meilyn went through a lot . . .
Surely she couldn''t just forget about the years that they were together.
Chapter 3: Gambling on Games
Chapter 3: Gambling on Games ? ?
The shock was an understatement when the cab drove them into the poor area in Zone A. This was where the mass housing was located.
Towering apartment buildings stood in rows, tightly packed together, leaving little space to spare. The units were tiny, some measuring just around twenty square meters, and frequently filled with a multitude of people.
Now, standing in front of Xin was the very same apartment, a small room permeated with the pungent stench of sweat, decay, cigarettes, and alcohol. The air was heavy with the sounds emanating from the neighboring room.
"Augh . . . you must be shocked, right?" Evelyn started as she mustered a weak smile..
"What happened to our house?" Xin asked.
"Ah well . . . things happened and . . . I had to sell our house. But don''t worry! This is only temporary. I''m currently hunting for a house right now, near our previous one."
Xiaxia rolled her eyes and opened the door. "Mom, don''t babysit him. Tell him the truth that you had to sell the house to pay his medical expenses and that we''re in a huge debt right now because of him."
"Hurrah!" Evelyn reprimanded her daughter, but Xin only stood at the entrance without saying a word, his face filled with unspoken thoughts.
Xin couldn''t help but feel the weight of his mother''s sacrifices as the truth settled in. She had sold their house and possibly more just to cover his medical expenses.
Guilt gnawed at him, knowing that he had be a burden to his family.
"Don''t pay attention to Xiaxia''s words, alright?" Evelyn pleaded, her smile strained. "You don''t need to worry about anything. I''ll take care of everything."
Xin remained silent, his fingers curling tightly into his palm as he stepped inside the house. The unspoken gratitude and remorse swirled within him, and he couldn''t find the right words to express his emotions.
The room in the mass housing apartment was small and suffocating, offering little respite from the outside world. The air hung heavy with a stale odor.
Thebined scents of various households, intermingled with traces of cooking, cleaning products, and the faint hint of mildew, created an unpleasant atmosphere.
The walls, worn and faded, seemed paper-thin, failing to provide any significant sound instion. The voices of neighboring upants spilled through the thin barriers, their conversations blending into a cacophony of noise.
"It isn''t much, but this is our new home," Xiaxia said dully and entered her room. Before she shut the door, she slipped from the gap and said, "There''s only one room in here, so you sleep here on the floor."
"Hey!"
"It''s fine," Xin said and went over to the living room that also served as their dining area. "Where will I put my things?"
Evelyn''s face was sorry. "Just put it in the boxes over there. Sorry, I still haven''t bought any furniture for your clothes."
"Don''t worry about it. These boxes are fine." Xin started to reorganize his clothes while his mother excused herself to make dinner.
There was only a small foyer, and after that was a tiny kitchen that had little room to maneuver. After the kitchen was the living and dining area that served as Xin''s sleeping quarter as well.
The remaining two doors were probably the bedroom and the bathroom.
As Xin unpacked, the reality of their living situation finally sank into his head, and this made him decide what to do.
=======
"I''ll find a job tomorrow," Xin said when they were having dinner.
They were sitting on the floor with a small table at the center.
As he expected, his mother was quick to protest.
"What are you talking about, Xin?" Evelyn said with a serious face. "What about school?"
"I won''t go."
Xiaxia''s eyes went to him and their mother while she kept eating from her bowl without a word.
"No," Evelyn replied with a hard tone. "You will take the advancement exam and go to college. End of story."
"But¨C"
"If you''re worried about the expenses and debt, don''t. I''m not weak and old that I couldn''t pay for it. You only focus on school and let me handle the rest. Let me do my job as your mother," Evelyn said with no room for argument.
". . ." Xin didn''tment anymore. He knew that stubborn jut of his mother''s lips ¨C there was no talking to her.
He would let go of this for now and bring up the topic in the following days.
"There''s a way to earn decent money even while you''re going to school, you know," Xiaxia chimed in. "And I''m not talking about part time jobs."
"Xiaxia, that thing is a scam."
Xiaxia nced at Evelyn and responded with a straightforward tone, "It covers my tuition fees and even paid for Xin''s hospital bills."
Evelyn was at a loss for words, unable toe up with a retort. She simply returned to her meal, muttering, "That''s despicable."
Curiosity filled Xin''s eyes, although his expression remained unchanged. "What is it?" he inquired.
Xiaxia locked eyes with him, a wide grin spreading across her face. "It''s called Guildbane."
Xin''s forehead crumpled. "That game?"
"It''s more than just a game. It''s a massive empire worth trillions of dors, where anyone has the chance to be incredibly wealthy overnight!" Xiaxia spoke with passion. "This game has its own currency system, where one thousand gil is equivalent to one real dor! If you spend an hour grinding in the game, you can easily earn at least ten dors. And if you''re lucky enough to find rare items, the earnings can be even greater!"
Xin wanted to interject, but Xiaxia continued without pause.
"But the real moneyes from raiding dungeons, participating in contests, and winning guild wars! If you manage to reach the top ten in the leaderboards, you could even be a celebrity! Actually, even the top one hundred would be impressive!"
"When did you be a game addict?" Xin asked when he had the chance to finally interject.
Xiaxia''s earlier enthusiasm faded, and she nced at him with ackluster gaze. "Since money became a part of it."
Evelyn mmed her te down, her frustration evident. "That game is nothing but a scam."
Xiaxia scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Anything that is easy money is a scam to you, Mom."
"So you''re already ying this game?"
Xiaxia''s gaze shifted to Xin, and her head tilted up with pride. "Hm~Hm~. I''ve already established a guild in this game. Aren''t I amazing?"
"So you''re already a pro?"
"GuUKk . . ." Xiaxia fell on her high throne. She quickly recovered and cleared her throat. "N-no. But I''m getting there."
". . . Hmm . . ."
"What?! What''s with that disgusting look on your face?! Are you starting a fight, huh?!"
Chapter 4: A Feline Transformation
Chapter 4: A Feline Transformation ?
Later that night, when he heard the snores from the adjacent room, Xin looked over his phone to check this game called Guildbane.
He was sitting on the floor with his back against the wall, and the only light wasing from his phone.
Xiaxia was telling the truth. ying this game would yield money, and pro yers were more popr than celebrities at this point.
He was even amazed that top yers earned like a million a month at a minimum!
Xin was happy and contented if he could earn enough to pay his debt and get their house back. Though he didn''t know about games, he had nothing to lose if he tried his luck in this virtual world.
Xin heard the opening and closing of the door, and after that was his sister''s voice.
"I know that you couldn''t sleep. Are you searching about Guildbane?"
Xin nodded.
Xiaxia stopped in front of him.
"Here"
Xin turned his attention to his sister, who was holding out a worn-out headgear. Despite the dim lighting, he could see that it had seen better days. The paint was peeling, revealing the shiny metal beneath.
Curiosity filled his voice as he asked, "What''s that?"
Xiaxia smiled and replied, "It''s a gift. Your birthday is just a few minutes away, and you''ll need this if you want to y the game."
ncing at the clock, which showed [11:44 PM], Xin shifted his gaze back to Xiaxia. "You''re still awake? Don''t you have sses tomorrow?"
Taking a deep breath, Xiaxia responded eagerly, "I won''t be sleeping anytime soon. Guildbane''s anniversary is about to begin, and they''re giving away gifts! I can''t afford to miss that!"
Xin gingerly epted the helmet, realizing that it was the necessary headgear for ying the game. However, he noticed that it appeared old and slightly outdated.
It must be an earlier model, he thought to himself.
Xiaxia''s voice broke the silence, cautioning him, "Be careful with that, alright? It''s the very first headgear from when Guildbane wasunched. It could fetch a hefty price if sold."
"Then why didn''t you sell it?"
Xiaxia''s reaction was almost explosive. "Because it holds sentimental value that can''t be bought with any amount of money, okay?!"
Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she continued, "I should have realized that someone as emotionally detached as you wouldn''t understand. Anyway, let me show you how to use it first."
Xiaxia went to his side and exined the many buttons on the headgear. It was only a simple mechanism of on and off, and the machine would do the rest.
Xiaxia exined the limitations of the old headgear, saying, "This model is rtively safe, but you can only y the game for about two hours a day before it needs to be recharged. And you can''t y while it''s charging. The newer models have unlimited gaming time even when charging, but theye with a hefty price tag, costing hundreds of thousands nowadays."
She encouraged Xin, saying, "Give it a try. It might be a bit confusing at first, but you''ll get used to it. Just make sure Mother doesn''t catch you wearing it."
"But how will you y if Mom is sleeping right next to you?"
Xiaxia''s smirk grew wider. "I make enough money now, so Mom doesn''t mind."
"Is that so?" Xin asked dully.
Xiaxia''s smile fell. "Can''t you at least show a little pride for your sister? I''ve even helped pay off some of your hospital bills, you know."
"Ahh . . . thank you . . . ?"
Xiaxia''s vein bulged on her head. "What''s with that tone? Do you want me to hit you?"
"It''s my usual voice," Xinmented and inspected the helmet.
Xiaxia sighed. "Forget it. I''ll bete for the event if I keep talking to an ice block like you."
Xiaxia rose from the floor and headed towards her room. Just before opening the door, she offered a final warning, "By the way, the machine will scan you first to prevent multiple ounts. Once you create your Avatar, you''ll be transported to a beginner''s ind along with other new yers."
"You''ll have to stay on that ind until you''re familiar with the game. Once you leave, you won''t be able to go back, so make sure youplete all the quests there before deciding to move on, okay?"
"I take it you didn''t finish all the quests?" With the helmet securely on his head, Xin pressed the power button.
"GuuKk!" arge arrow pierced Xiaxia''s heart before she gritted her teeth. "You''re really are infuriating!"
She shot him a final nce before closing her door.
"Good luck."
=======
As Xin entered the game, he found himself in a stark white room. In front of him, small hologram boxes formed the shape of a face.
Feeling a bit disoriented, Xin regained hisposure when the face spoke with a robotic female voice.
Xin hesitated for a moment before responding, "Um . . . yes?"
As the AI finished counting down, a figure materialized, closely resembling Xin''s own features.
Xin was amazed when the Avatar looked exactly like him, and he took his time to process this virtual reality before him.
A sizable hologram appeared before Xin, presenting a range of options to modify his avatar''s appearance. With a press of a button, he could alter various features to create a different persona.
The thought of making his avatar a girl didn''t sit right with him, so he discarded the idea.
After careful consideration, Xin decided to make his avatar slightly younger and shorter, with ck hair ented by streaks of white strands and silver eyes.
There was no semnce of this Avatar to him, but he was satisfied with the oue and pressed
". . . Okay."
Name . . . Xin paused and thought for a moment.
Nothing came up in his head, except the name of his fat tiger cat a long time ago.
"Lord Schrodinger."
What could possibly go wrong, right?
[WARNING! Once you choose a name, you can''t change it for the next 30 days!]
Xin pressed proceed.
"Er . . . Yes?"
At the next prompt were different races and sses, and Xin had a headache from the list and information.
The game presented Xin with a wide variety of sses to choose from. Swordsmen, fighters, tanks, bards, clerics, thieves, hunters, pdins, sorcerers, druids, and the list went on and on.
The races also has a long list, but Xin wasn''t interested in ying any of them, except for this interesting race . . . Beastfolk.
From the animals, he chose the cat since . . . his Avatar''s name was already the name of his previous cat, so why not?
He grew dark cat ears, and a tail minus the whiskers since the mere thought made his nose scrunched.
As for the ss . . .
He wasn''t decided yet, so he chose not to have a ss first.
He would ask Xiaxia''s opinion about thister when he was back in the real world.
For now, he finished with his Avatar and clicked [Proceed].

HP meant Hit Points. The number of points before your avatar dies.
MP meant Mana Points. This is essential to casting spells and skills.
Strength = Physical power.

Xin pressed [Okay], and the game finalized his ount and avatar.
Augh . . . you don''t have to rub it in. Xin already knew that he was four years behind his peers.
Huh?
[You have received a GIFT from the central AI system, LUMINA!]
Oh . . . A gift?
Was this an anniversary thing?
Before he could open it, the AI spoke again.
Haa . . . Xin blinked, and before he knew it, he reappeared on a rocky beach.
Xin looked over at his surroundings and decided to check his gift first before he explore the area.
Opening it, his avatar glowed.
Hmm . . . feeling no change, Xin checked his status bar.

=======================
THE DEVELOPERs DISTRESS
=======================
In a separate realm within the game, the game developers gathered to evaluate the triumph of their anniversary event.
The developers themselves appeared as peculiar beings, resembling small, fluffy clouds made of cotton the size of a palm. Each of them had a single letter hovering above their avatars, serving as their names.
"The anniversary is a sess. A lot of yers are happy with their gifts."
"Good. Good."
"The event also drew in new yers, and our stock skyrocketed even more."
"Good. Good. By the way . . . what kind of gifts they received?"
"It''spletely random, and all are calcted by LUMINA, our GENIUS central AI system."
"It''s all a matter of luck. If the old yers logged in at exactly 12:00 AM, I think they would receive a +5 on one of their chosen stat."
"The newbies would receive rare items if they logged in at 12:00."
"Some would receive equipment if it''s their birthday."
"So it''spletely random?"
"That''s right. LUMINA calcted everything! The more the yers met the inputted requirements, the rarer their gift is!"
"I inputted the birthday thing."
"I put on the time and date."
"Ehehehe. Be amazed, for I put in the very first headgear!"
"OH! That''s genius!"
"Guess what I put in?"
"What?"
"Hm~Hm~ . . . no one would be able to think of this, and no person could ever meet this requirement!"
"What is it?"
"Stop making us wait and spit it out!"
"Hohoho. Hear this out. I inputted in . . . a generation requirement!"
"What the hell is that?"
"What does that mean?"
"Anyway, what if a yer met all these requirements?"
. . .
. . .
"NONE OF YOU THOUGHT OF IT?!"
"Ah . . . well . . . it''s because no one would ever achieve it in the first ce. He''s got to be one in a billion and the luckiest guy on earth."
". . . So what would he get if ever?"
. . .
. . .
"No one knows. Lumina calcted everything. We just inputted the requirements."
"Yeah. There''s zero chance that a yer could ever meet all requirements. Ahahaha!"
"WE HAVE A PROBLEM!"
Another cloud appeared.
"What is it?"
"Don''t be so loud."
"A PLAYER! A NEW PLAYER had received the ultimate GIFT from LUMINA!"
. . .
. . .
HUUHHH??!!!!
"I thought you said that this wouldn''t happen?"
"Who is HE?"
"What are we going to do?"
"SILENCE! First, what did he receive?"
"T-that''s . . ."
A board appeared showing yer Lord Schrodinger''s stat.
"I-infinite . . . charisma . . ."
"N-no way."
"Oh no! What are we going to do?! He''s surely going to disrupt the game!"
"LUMINA, erase his ount!"
"What do you mean he didn''t vite any rules?! His CHA is infinity! He is bugged!"
"Geh . . . Why do I get the feeling that it is our fault?"
"Is there a way to reprogram this?"
"LUMINA is absolute. Right now, if we want to reprogram her, we have to find the head developer."
"That guy had been gone years ago!"
"Without him, we couldn''t do anything to the central system. He had inputted so many codes in its security that no one could crack."
"The most we could do is input anothermand to erase the multiple requirements, so this would never happen again."
"Damn it!"
"What should we do?"
"Kill the person."
"Shut up! Killing is not allowed!"
". . ."
". . ."
"Then there''s nothing we could do."
. . .
. . .
"It''s fine . . . let it be. I mean. What could one person do with infinite charisma, right? It''s not like it''s the major stat like STR and INT that''s affected."
"T-that''s right . . . and infinite charisma doesn''t really pose too much problem in the game."
"Hmm . . . true . . . CHA is almost useless. It just makes the NPC a little friendlier towards you, that''s all."
"See . . . it''s nothing to be fretting over."
"Where is this yer right now?"
"The system had transported him to Abundant Shore."
"Ah . . . that."
"Is something in there?"
"Every newbie ind has some kind of rare treasures. But hear this . . . no yer would be able to get it!"
"Ah. We did post on our site about a rare treasure in newbie inds, and weugh at the yers who search for it to no avail."
"Yeah. Those were the good times."
"By the way, why can''t they get it again?"
"It''s because the quest to get it requires at least a thousand CHA, so the NPC responsible for the quest would talk to them about it. But since they''re newbies, there''s no way that they could get their CHA that high even if they spent a hundred days on that ind."
"Most give up a week and move on."
"And since the ind is a one-way ess only, once they leave, they could nevere back. So until now, no one got that rare treasure."
"Ohh. So that''s why! Ahahaha! A thousand CHA is really an impossible task! Even to this day, no one got their CHA to a thousand. GENIUS!"
". . . B-but . . . Lord Schrodinger has infinite CHA . . ."
. . .

Chapter 6: Wandering Along the Coastal Path
Chapter 6: Wandering Along the Coastal Path
Xin found himself uncertain about the implications of having infinite CHA in the game. He wondered if this was amon urrence or if it made him special in some way.
However, being alone in his current situation, he had no one to ask orpare with to gain rity on the matter.
Nevertheless, Xin realized that he had limited time each day to y the game due to his outdated headgear. With only two hours avable, he couldn''t afford to waste any time.
He decided to save his questions for Xiaxia once he logged out from Guildbane.
Hmm . . . What am I going to do now?
Xin found himself in a state of confusion, unsure of what to do next. ying Guildbane was apletely new experience for him, as he had never been into gaming before.
In fact, the most he had ever yed on his phone were simple puzzles and games like Tetris.
To begin, Xin carefully examined the game''s [Menu], trying to familiarize himself with its features and options. He then focused his attention on his avatar, taking the time to understand its capabilities and movements.
As he immersed himself in the game, Xin couldn''t help but be amazed by the incredible realism. It felt as though he had been transported to another world, where he could sense the environment around him. He could even taste the salty air and feel the refreshing ocean breeze against his skin.
The level of immersion was beyond anything he had ever imagined!
With a better grasp of his avatar''s abilities, Xin turned his attention to the in-game features. He learned that Guildbane was designed to engage all the senses, although the sense of pain was diminished to just 10% to prevent overwhelming the yer''s brain.
Feeling more confident, Xin decided to explore the game world and pressed the [MAP] button located on the side of his screen. As he did so, a detailed map of the game world appeared before him.
A piece of information popped up when he pressed [Abundant Shore].
[ The coastal region known as the Abundant Shore consisted of two distinct areas. The first is Seagull''s Nest, a bustlingmunity nestled in a picturesque bay with cliffs eroding by the crashing waves and beaches scattered withrge boulders.
The second area is Luckernaught coast, a vast expanse ofnd featuring gentle grassy dunes, low-lying sandy beaches, and asional rocky outcrops. This area has started attracting both settlers and raiders due to its natural beauty and resources. ]
So . . . what am I going to do in here exactly? Xin was at a loss.
Maybe look around and talk to the inders?
If what he knew about this kind of game, he needed toplete quests and grind and level up. And recalling what his sister said, he needed to sell loot in order to earn money.
As Xin walked along the Coastal path, he noticed a mix of characters ¡ª some were controlled by other yers, while others were non-yable characters (NPCs).
The yers had indicators showing their health points (HP) and magic points (MP) beneath their names, distinguishing them from the NPCs who only had names above their heads.
"Hey there!" an NPC greeted Xin when he casually walked near her.
Her name was Flora, and she was harvesting grass and flowers at the side.
"Are you an adventurer?" she asked.
Xin nodded.
Flora beamed.
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Flora increased to ACQUAINTANCE!]
Egh?
Xin was baffled.
Wasn''t rtionship level with NPCs took time to forge? That was ording to what he read in the information in his [LIBRARY].
Usually, yers started off with [Stranger], [Acquaintance], [Friends], and finally, [Intimate].
But his [Rtionship Level] just shot to [Acquaintance] with just a nod.
Was this because of his infinite CHA?
It was another question that he needed to ask Xiaxia once he was back in the real world.
He only ran through the information in his [LIBRARY] and didn''t bother to read all of the notes in there, so he wasn''t sure. It was easier to ask his sisterter.
"Are you here to forage, too?" she asked with a sweet voice and even sweeter smile.
Xin nodded. "Ah . . ."
He was about to say something when another notification popped on his screen.
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Flora increased to FRIENDS!]
This doesn''t seem normal. Xin thought.
Even for a first-time gamer like him, he knew that something was not right.
"I''ll let you in some secret." Flora leaned and whispered, "If you''re harvesting a foraging spot like this, it''s important that you don''t [Forage all at once] but choose to [Pick one by one]. By doing so, you increase your chances to more items and even increase your percentage of foraging rare things."
"Ah . . . is that right?"
Flora beamed. "Yes!"
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Flora increased to INTIMATE!]
Egh?
Flora giggled. "Teeheeheehee~ I''ll let you have this."
She shoved something onto Xin''s hand while looking all flustered to the side.
[ACQUIRED!
? Golden Clipper (Tools)
This clipper allow you to forage rare herbs and flowers.
NOTE!
This clipper can only be used if your [Foraging] life skill is already [Intermediate] and above.
? Golden Fruit x1
This fruit, when consumed, increased your chosen [Life Skills] to one level. ]
Hmm . . . Xin thought that the items she gave were nothing important, and he recalled his [LIFE SKILLS].
There was [Beginner], [Intermediate], [Master], and [Grand Master].
The more he leveled these skills, the more he would acquire rare items.
Foraging from the natural world could be as simple as collecting flowers on a hilltop or asplicated as chiseling a gemstone deposited from a cliff face.
However, Xin didn''t know that what he had acquired were very rare items enough to auction for hundreds of thousands.
[Golden Tools] were very rare in Guildbane and couldn''t be bought. They could only be acquired through a quest or crafted by a Master Crafter.
Ignorance of its importance, Xin just casually ate the [Golden Fruit] and increased his [Foraging] skills to [Intermediate] so he could use the [Golden Clipper].
"This coast is a treasure trove!" Flora eximed. "Where water meetsnd is an environment of constant change. What was once a morass of salt-carved rock or an idyllic, palm-lined beach can be disguised in moments by the iing tide.
"Navigating thends and outlooks adjacent to the coast can provide a wealth of foraging ingredients, from mosaics of glimmering sand to peculiarly shaped shells. While the coast might make one immediately think of oceans and seas, some indkes are sizable enough to create sweeping beaches with long stretches of coastline as well."
"Ah . . . Is that right?"
Flora swept side to side while blushing. "If you want, I can show you the best foraging spots in this area."
[You can now marry Flora! Proceed to the necessary task to ask her hand in marriage and live your life in happiness and bliss!]
SO FAST!
Xin did read something about NPCs that were marriageable once you''re [Rtionship Level] with them reached [Intimate].
But . . . why was it so fast?
It was only his first day in the game, and now he had an NPC wanting to marry him.
Was this normal?
"No thanks," Xin said.
He then quickly proceeded to try out the clipper and harvest on a foraging spot away from Flora before the girl could say anything weird.
Chapter 7: Foraging and Fighting
Chapter 7: Foraging and Fighting ? ? ?
When Xin took a step away from Flora, two yers barged into his path.
"Hey, there," |EXP is Life| greeted.
"Can we have a bit of your time?" |Daoist Yun| added.
Xin nodded.
"Did that NPC gave you something?" |EXP is Life| asked.
"We saw you talking to her, and she seemed to have shoved something into your hand."
Xin nodded.
Their faces brightened.
"Thanks. Let''s go."
"I told you that some NPC will give you items. I read it in the forums."
"But I talked to her before. She only gave me basic instructions about Foraging and ignored me the next."
When the two went away, Xin swiftly made his way to a nearby foraging spot, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of untouched resources. He hoped that luck was on his side and that the spot hadn''t beenpletely cleared by other yers.
As he arrived, he noticed several yers engaged in foraging activities, just like him. It seemed that the spot was popr, but there was still enough space for everyone.
The ind wasn''t overcrowded, perhaps because new yers arrived as others left.
"It''s a continuous cycle," Xin mused to himself, realizing that the game must have regted the poption in the ind, making sure that it was bnce.
[ ACQUIRED!
? Breath of Life Algae x4
The blue-green algae found in these waters is highly valued by sailors for its beneficial properties. They will often store it in vials of water to maintain its freshness.
When consumed, the algae granted the ability to breathe underwater, simr to a water-breathing spell.
This effect willst for one hour.
? Flowering Jasmine x5
The white flowers in this area produce yellow pollen that can cause sneezing sickness in many people.
However, for those who are not affected by the pollen, these delicate blooms are perfect for making herbal tea.
When used as an ingredient in crafting a pollen bomb, it reduces the crafting time by 25%.
? Bee Balm Tree (Sap) x1.
The palm trees in this area have thick bark and produce waxy sap. This sap is valuable for crafting polishes, varnishes, and candles, like mor varnish.
? Spark Stone (Powdered) x1
This stone appears clear like a crystal until you touch it. Then, it shes blue and emits electric shocks.
It is often used as a fancy desk ornament by rich merchants and nobles.
When you use it to craft potions that either cause or protect against lightning damage, like a potion of lightning resistance, it cuts the crafting time by 25% or doubles the potion''s duration (you get to decide). ]
As Xin explored the foraging spots, he managed to find a few items that hadn''t been taken yet, while others were already picked clean by other yers.
When he attempted to forage at a spot, a notification appeared on his screen, indicating that he had to wait for a specific amount of time before he could gather from that spot again.
[ 4:57:24 left before this spot can be forage ]
However, Xin discovered that using specialized tools, such as the [Golden Clippers], increased the yield of herbs and flowers he obtained.
Little did he know, the items he collected were actually rare and could only be acquired with these special tools. Some of them were even ingredients that could reduce crafting time.
With the goal of earning money in mind, Xin nned to sell all the items he gathered, hoping to make a profit from his foraging endeavors.
When Xin came too, he was surprised that an hour had already passed and he still hadn''t explored the ind. He was still on the coast, foraging for some more items.
He only had one hour before he would be logged out, so he hurried forward.
"Hoi!"
Xin looked over his shoulder when he noticed an NPC running towards him.
His skin was radiating a dark and glowing hue. As he stepped onto the sandy shore, his presence seemed otherworldly. His back was adorned with elegant fins, shimmering in the sunlight, and his body was covered in glistening scales with webbed hands and feet.
As he walked, droplets of water dripped from his scales, leaving a trail of tiny wet marks on the sand. The mereman''s eyes sparkled with a mix of curiosity and wonder as he eyed him.
Is he a [Merefolk]?
"You''re going to leave the coast and enter Seagull''s Nest, right? The path ahead is perilous. Do you know how to fight and defend yourself?"
Come to think of it . . . Xin shook his head.
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Triton increased to ACQUAINTANCE!]
This again?
"Then let me show you how it''s done," Triton said and brought out his weapon, a halberd.
Though to Xin, it appeared like a pitchfork.
"It''s just a matter of knowing your enemy. See that Giant Crab over there." Triton pointed to a creature not far away from them.
"You can use [Monocle] to see the monsters'' stat. That Giant Crab''s hard shell makes it resistant to [SLASHING] damage from swords and des and [PIERCING] damage from rapiers, arrows, and bullets. Though there''s still damage, it''s only minuscule.
"Creatures like that have a weakness to [BLUDGEONING] damage from hammers and lightening spells from mages. And if you use their weakness against them, your chances of [CRITICAL] hit increased."
". . . Is that so?"
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Triton increased to FRIENDS!]
". . ."
"That''s right," Triton eximed with excitement. "But here''s the trick . . . If your stat is higher than your opponent''s, you can simply overpower them without worrying about any restrictions or strategies!"
As he spoke, Triton proudly showcased his strength by flexing his Halberd. In a swift and lightning-fast motion, he thrust the weapon into the Giant Crab, causing it to shatter into countless particles.
With a triumphantugh, Triton dered, "You see? When your stats are superior, you can dominate the battlefield with sheer force! Ahahahaha!"
". . . Ha . . ." Xin could only reply.
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Triton increased to INTIMATE!]
Chapter 8: Unveiling Gifts and Unforeseen Consequences
Chapter 8: Unveiling Gifts and Unforeseen Consequences ? ?
Xin didn''t know what to say. He was busy with his level shooting to five with just a single Crab. The EXP he got was in the hundreds, and his stat increased as his level increased as well.
Xin read that the points added to [STAT] every level-up depends on the race and ss, but since he didn''t have a ss yet, his werepletely random.
He wondered if this would affect his progresster on.
Xin shrugged the matter off. It was just a game. What could go wrong? The important thing was his stat was increasing.
He wasn''t an avid gamer, nor was he obsessed with perfection. If he had to define himself, he would say he was more of a "go with the flow" kind of guy.
He also took some time to learn about experience points (EXP) and leveling up. He discovered that as he gained levels, the amount of EXP he received would gradually decrease. This meant that progressing to higher levels would be more challenging over time.
Curiosity piqued, Xin decided to check the leaderboard to see the achievements of other yers. To his surprise, the highest level reached by any yer so far was LV. 104.
Xin couldn''t help but wonder if that was considered impressive or not. After all, the game had been avable for four years already.
Realizing that there was no limit to how high yers could level up or how powerful their stats could be, Xin understood that the game was designed to be endless. The developers were constantly introducing new content and updates to keep the yers engaged and the experience fresh.
Tritonughed and pulled Xin out from his screen.
"No need to praise me. Here I''ll give you this."
[ACQUIRED!
? Crustacean Carapace (Rare)
This sturdy armor is crafted from the thick and durable shell of the Giant Crab, offering excellent protection against physical attacks. It boasted a unique design, resembling the intricate patterns found on the crab''s exoskeleton.
When worn, the [Crustacean Carapace] provided enhanced defense and resilience, making it highly sought after by warriors and defenders in the game.
CONS +10
NOTE!
Only a male (non-mage ss) could wear this.
Need STR +5 to equip it or suffer AGI -5 ]
There were other items and gil as well, but this was the first ever equipment that he received, and Xin immediately equipped it before he forgot.
"I''m supposed to give you a weapon ording to your ss, but since you don''t have one yet, I''ll give you that armor instead."
"Thanks."
Triton pped Xin''s back. "Ahahaha! No need to be modest! We''re buddies, after all! Just ask away, and I''ll help you with the monsters on your path!"
[Triton wanted to FOLLOW you to make sure that you reach Seagull''s Nest safely!]
Was this part of a quest? Xin wondered and pressed
"Splendid! Now, let''s get going!" Triton eximed, brimming with enthusiasm. He reassured Xin, "Don''t fret about experience points, gil, or items. You can have them all. I have no need for such things. I''m already mighty and powerful, after all! Bwhahahahaha!"
"Is that so?" Xin replied dully.
"Yes, indeed! Let me regale you with one of my thrilling adventures," Triton began, his voice filled with excitement. "Once, I faced a fearsome sea serpent that emerged from the depths of the ocean. Its monstrous size and ferocious nature was unmatched. With my trusty Halberd in hand, I engaged it in an epic battle thatsted for hours. The waves crashed around us as we shed, each strike reverberating through the air. In the end, I emerged victorious, triumphing over the mighty sea serpent and securing peace in the waters. It was a glorious victory!"
As Xin and Triton walked away, the unusual sight caught the attention of nearby yers. Curiosity piqued, they started whispering among themselves, observing the NPC trailing behind Xin.
"Hey, did you see that? An NPC is following him," one yer remarked, pointing towards Xin and Triton.
"That''s Triton, the NPC who offers fighting tutorials and helps yers reach level five," another yer exined. "But I had no idea he had a quest to give."
"I wonder what that guy did to trigger it," a third yer wondered aloud.
"Let''s go ask him," one of them suggested, their curiosity driving them closer to Xin and Triton.
========================
The DEVELOPERs Distress
========================
Watching the NPCs as they gave Xin their most prized item as soon their [Rtionship Level] increased to [FRIEND] and [INTIMATE] made the developers clutch their heads and howl in frustration.
"*sigh . . . from all the NPC . . . why does it have to be Triton."
"Is something special about him?"
"Triton is in charge of teaching newbies the basics of fighting, so we made his stat high. He is the most buffed NPC in the Abundant Shore. See that Giant Crab. Its DEF is almost a hundred."
"And you put it on a Newbie Vige?!"
"It''s not supposed to be defeated by a yer, to begin with. Triton will kill it and then offer a piece of basic equipment to the newbie as our gift for ying the game.
"But . . . Triton actually went with him."
"What would happen now?"
"THAT''s NOT THE PROBLEM HERE, LUMINA!"
"He is a bug! He is definitely a BUG!"
"LUMINA, erase him!"
"What do you mean didn''t vite any rules?! Look at him! He didn''t even make any effort in conversation, but all the NPCs he met already wanted to marry him! ON HIS VERY FIRST DAY IN THE GAME!"
"Geh. Why are you implying that it''s our fault?"
"Rather, whose genius idea was it to have the NPCs give rare gifts as soon their [Rtionship Level] with a yer reach [INTIMATE]?!"
". . . It was yours . . ."
"Geh! Then if you can''t erase his ount, then give us his information!"
"GgrrRr! DAMN System!"
"GEH! Who put that stupid rule?"
"You!"
". . . Maybe it''s time for a little restructuring of rules."
"W-what are we going to do now?"
"We can only wait and see. We''ll wait until he bes famous and reveals his true identity. Humans are often self-centered, and they can''t resist the allure of fame. Given the chance, they would eagerly seize the opportunity to be a celebrity."
"Maybe we should try to find him based on the requirements he met before. If he fulfilled all the criteria, it means he was born today and could be thest one of his generation to y the game."
"Are you stupid? We don''t even know what year that generation is! It''s impossible to search based on that alone. Besides, we don''t even know if he''s really a boy!"
Looking at Lord Schrodinger effortlessly collecting EXP, gil, and items while he just stood there doing nothing, relying on an NPC to do all the work . . . the developers roared.
"He''s definitely bugged!"
Chapter 9: Troublesome Encounters
Chapter 9: Troublesome Encounters ? ? ?
"Seagull''s Nest is a town that is being built again. It is surrounded by high areas ofnd that stick out into the sea and has cliffs along the coast. The town sits on top of these cliffs and has a view of a bay that is known to be dangerous," exined Triton as they walked towards the town.
"Seagull''s Nest has a uniquendscape with some old remains from the Baskan kingdom and big rocks. The town has a poption of around 8,000 people, including visitors. Most of the residents are humans and half-elves with a connection to the sea. One interesting feature of the town is a market located on a floating rock. The rock is tied to the coast and sea to prevent it from floating away.
"You can reach the Luckernaught Coast either by boat from Seagull''s Nest or by crossing the hills that encircle the town. This coast is quiterge and hazardous, as it is inhabited by various dangerous tribes of monsters. There are also the Reef Raiders, who are skilled at navigating the dunes and have taken control of important locations along the coast. The farther you are from Seagull''s Nest and the more you explore the sandy hills, the greater the danger bes."
"Do you want me to tell you the history of this ce?" Triton asked Xin.
"Would I get an item as a reward if I say yes?" Xin asked back.
Triton blinked and chuckled, then gave Xin a hard p on the back. "Unfortunately, no."
Xin coughed. "In that case, I''ll pass."
If Xin didn''t have his [Rtionship Level] with Triton reached [Intimate] Triton would have turned off and went back to shore.
But since Xin''s [Rtionship Level] with Triton was MAX, Triton pretend not to hear anything and continued anyway, "The Baskan people got their name from the Baskan Kingdom, which was made up of humans and half-elves and used to be in charge here. Unfortunately, the kingdom was destroyed by strong seastorms and strange rocks falling from the sky, and you can still see those rocks around the area.
"After the destruction, a small group of survivors worked hard to rebuild the fishing town, Seagull''s Nest. The surrounding area is now called The Abundant Shore because people who explore the beaches in Luckernaught have begun finding old relics and valuable treasures there.
"There was once a powerful empire that wanted to conquer the Baskan Kingdom. They sent arge fleet of ships to attack, but their ships were hit by the same strong seastorm and falling rocks that caused the downfall of the Baskans.
"The schrs in Seagull''s Nest believe that around five hundred enemy ships were destroyed by the storm. ording to the oldest half-elves in the town, the Baskan court mage called upon a mighty celestial titan to fight off the invading fleet, but things didn''t go as nned.
"The titan not only caused huge waves and whirlpools that sank the fleet, but it also destroyed the kingdom that had summoned it. Afterward, the titan disappeared to another world or sank to the bottom of the ocean.
"Only recently, the shifting currents of the northern sea have carried the lost treasures from the sunken ships to the shore. There aren''t many pirates in the area because it''s difficult to navigate, and there isn''t much maritime trade happening.
"The region is mostly popted by humans and other humanoid races, as well as a few tribes of monsters who live along the coast. They don''t pose much of a threat to Seagull''s Nest and instead engage in trade, exchanging handmade goods and fish with the settlement."
Xin nced to the side and quietly muttered to himself about Triton''s talkativeness. But their conversation was interrupted by a group of yers calling out from behind.
"Hey! Hold on, friend!" one of the yers shouted.
Xin and Triton turned around and waited for the approaching yers to catch up.
"What can we help you with?" Triton asked, standing confidently with his muscr arms crossed.
The group of yers felt intimidated by Triton''s imposing physique and instinctively took a step back. Triton''s tall and buff stature made him appear like a giantpared to them.
Summoning the courage, one of the yers turned to Xin and asked if Triton had given him a quest. Xin shook his head in response.
"No, he''s just apanying me," Xin replied.
"Apanying you?" another yer questioned, clearly curious. "How is that possible?"
How . . . huh. Xin was unsure himself.
Maybe it had something to do with his infinite CHA?
However, he had a nagging feeling that he shouldn''t reveal that information until he confirmed it with Xiaxia. Even a non-gamer like him knew that the situation was unusual and definitely not the norm.
The group of yers persisted, urging Xin to share the information with them.
"Come on, we''re all yers here," one of them pleaded.
"Yeah, you don''t have to hold back," another chimed in.
"Help us out, fellow newbie," a third yer requested.
Xin stayed calm and didn''t let it bother him, keeping his expression the same as he scanned through the names of the yers. But he didn''t dwell on them for long and quickly forgot them as he moved on to the next one.
Before the situation escted, Triton stepped forward, his frown directed at the others who were attempting to approach Xin.
"Leave! If you know what''s good for you, stop bothering my friend," Triton sternly warned them.
"Friend?"
The others exchanged confused nces and huddle together in haste.
"Hey, can NPCs actually hurt yers?" one of them asked.
"I think they can, but only if your [Rtionship Level] with them drops to [Ruffian]," another yer replied.
"What should we do then?"
"Uhm . . ." Xin tried to intervene but couldn''t.
"I know! Let''s challenge him to a PvP fight and make him spill the information!"
"You''re an idiot. PvP fights aren''t avable in newbie viges. We have to leave this tutorial area before we can do that."
"We''re leaving now," Xin said but he was still ignored.
As the yers continued their secret discussion, Xin and Triton simply walked away, oblivious to their ns.
A yer saw them leaving and bravely stepped in their path and tried to grab Xin''s hand to stop him.
"Hey! We''re still talking to you--!"
Suddenly, a notification appeared on the yer''s screen.
[WARNING! Your Rtionship Level with Triton decreased to Ruffian!]
Before he could understand what was happening, a massive halberd swung through the air and smacked him right in the face. He went flying into the sky and disappeared in a burst of particles.
The other yers stood there, too stunned to say a word, while Xin''s face remained expressionless, although he was secretly amazed.
Whoa . . . He literally flew into the air. Xin mused to himself. It was the first time he had witnessed something like that.
If Xin remembered correctly, dying here resulted in losing EXP. EXP was important for leveling up and increasing your stats. The stronger the enemy, the more EXP you lost upon death, and if you lost enough, your level and stats could even decrease to zero.
I guess that guy would have to remake his ount again. Xin thought. At least he would start at Level one and not zero.
The other yers hurriedly retreated as Triton confronted them.
"Who''s up next?" Triton dered.
Everyone stumbled over themselves to get away.
Triton sneered. "Heh! I thought so." He then cleared his throat and turned to Xin, a smile on his face. "Now, where were we?"
Chapter 10: The Rare Quest
Chapter 10: The Rare Quest ? ? ? ?
Xin opened his mouth, but Triton was quick to add, "After the invading empire faced defeat against the Baskan mage''s powerful magic, their entire fleet was considered destroyed. But amidst the chaos, two ships managed to survive the storm, only to crash into nearby reefs. Though the ships overturned, the calm sea allowed around thirty survivors to cling to the reefs and salvage what they could from the wreckage. They constructed rafts and set off to find a new home.
"Sadly, their only source of food, the pepper fish, was tasty but harmful when consumed for a long time. Gradually, their ability to remember their past and who they were faded away.
"As they arrived at the Luckernaught shore and established their new residences amidst the hidden nooks and sandy hills, fragments of their memories started resurfacing. However, instead of longing to return to a ce they could barely recall, they chose a different path. They turned to plundering nearby fishing viges and unsuspecting travelers from Seagull''s Nest. Thus, they became notorious as the Reef Raiders.
"The current count of the Reef Raiders stands at around two hundred skilled fighters, both men and women. asionally, they receive support from other tribes like sahuagin, kobolds, merfolk, and merrow. These Raiders adopt a strategy of quick strikes and evasive maneuvers.
"They have also mastered the art of domesticating various creatures native to the region, including axe beaks, sharks, dinosaurs, and the rare sidewinder smanders. These creatures serve as their mounts, help with carrying heavy loads, and provide support in battles."
Xin found himself momentarily surprised by the mention of dinosaurs. However, he quickly reminded himself that he was immersed in a fantasy game where anything could happen.
After all, he was currently embodying a talking and walking cat, apanied by a mereman who effortlessly dispatched all foes they encountered with a swift swing of his halberd while touring him around.
Triton continued on without stopping, "Word got around that the Luckernaught coast was teeming with treasures salvaged from the sunken fleet. With this knowledge, the conflicts between the Reef Raiders and Seagull''s Nest intensified, happening more frequently. The two groups crossed paths more often as theypeted for the newly discovered wealth."
Triton took a deep breath and turned to Xin, his eyes filled with hope. "Did you understand everything I said?"
"Umm . . ." Xin nced to the side and fibbed, "Well, kind of."
"Great. That''s good to hear."
Triton continued talking for a while, but then his attention shifted as he pointed towards the sky, where a group of vultures were circling overhead.
"What''s that?" Triton asked, his voice curious.
Xin narrowed his eyes, trying to get a better look.
The cool breeze blowing from the sea turned foul as a strong smell of decay filled the air. Xin''s attention was drawn to a disturbing sight ¡ª the vultures circling above a group of lifeless bodies scattered across the heand.
There were around twelve corpses in total. As Xin approached, the vultures took notice and quickly scattered, abandoning their grisly feast.
Getting closer, Xin could make out that the deceased was dressed in two distinct styles. Some wore tattered brownish rags adorned with colorful seashells, while others donned uniforms in shades of yellow and blue.
Triton''s expression turned grave as he spoke with a somber tone, "They''re six rangers from the Seagull''s Nest patrol and six Reef Raiders."
Lying around the bodies were six short swords, six javelins, threes, two tridents, one rapier decorated with shells, and one horn.
Piled to the side were four sets of sturdy animal hide armor and six sets of soft padded armor. The padded armor disyed the emblem of Seagull''s Nest ¡ª a seagull perched on a tower.
Xin had the option to equip all the items since he hadn''t chosen a ss yet. Despite being able to select one with a simple button press, he chose not to because he was still undecided.
"What do you think happened here?" Triton asked.
Suddenly asking him that, Xin didn''t know. "I¨C"
"I think so too. You''re smart, Xin."
Huh? But he hadn''t said anything yet.
"I think there was a battle between the two groups, but something doesn''t add up," Triton continued.
Triton took a step forward, and Xin followed closely behind.
As they explored further, they discovered two additional lifeless bodies a short distance away from the scene. The victims had been struck down by poisoned arrows.
"Just as I suspected," Triton remarked as he inspected the arrows. He then revealed, "These arrows were crafted by sahuagin."
A prompt then appeared on Xin''s screen.
[Upon reexamining the area with this new insight, it became evident that the scene had been manipted to create the appearance of a conflict between the two groups.
In reality, both the Seagull''s Nest patrol and the Reef Raiders had fallen victim to a surprise attack by sahuagin while they were asleep. The evidence pointed to a cunning ambush rather than an actual fight between the factions.]
"What are you going to do?" Triton asked Xin.
And another prompt appeared on his screen.
It was obvious to Xin that he should choose the second option. It felt like the right thing to do, and in most cases, doing the right thing would lead to the best oue. That''s what he had heard about RPG games anyway.
"Nice choice. I''ll help you gather them."
As Triton moved the corpses, the vultures circling above swooped down to attack. There were three regr vultures and one giant vulture.
Triton furrowed his brow in irritation.
"These annoying creatures! Begone!" he eximed.
With a powerful swing of his halberd, Triton swiftly dispatched all the birds in a single motion while Xin raked EXP enough to catapult his Level to fifteen.
With this amount of EXP, even without a [Monocle], Xin was sure that those vultures couldn''t be killed soloed.
"Whew." Triton removed the invisible sweat on his face. "Nice job Xin!"
Augh . . . I didn''t even do anything. He thought.
This definitely wasn''t normal.
Xin didn''t know what to feel about clearing a quest that he didn''t start and didn''t even finish himself.
"Ilyath''s?" Xin wondered.
"What''s that? Ilyath''s? You need something from her?"
"You know her?"
"Yeah. She''s located in the Floating Market in Seagull''s Nest. Though the market is currently being fixed right now."
". . ."
"Want to enter the town?"
Xin nodded.

The DEVELOPERs Distress
========================
The tiny cottons were swirling around and around like a storm of dark clouds.
"Urhg . . . this quest . . . should there be a quest like that?"
"That''s . . . that''s the rare quest we''d been talking about before . . ."
"D-don''t tell me, Triton is . . ."
"Yes . . . Triton is that NPC that the yer needed to be [Intimate] with to acquire the rare quest."
"If you''re going to put a rare quest, then at least make it a chain quest! How is a rare quest finished that easily?! yer Lord Schrodinger didn''t even do anything!"
"Err . . . it is a chain quest. To get the reward, he had toplete a series of quests first."
The surroundings grew quiet, and all that could be heard was the sound of fluttering clouds. Suddenly, a loud crunching noise shattered the silence.
"*munch. I wonder what he would do next."
"This is no time to be munching on popcorn! We''ve got a BUG yer here that disrupts the game and the damn central system that refuses to erase him!"
"WE KNOW ALREADY!"
"Uh . . ."
"What?!"
"But . . . doesn''t it make you curious to find out what will happen next?"
. . .
. . .
"Ah . . . when you put it that way . . ."
". . . It does make me interested."

Chapter 11: Inventory & Seagull’s Nest
Chapter 11: Inventory & Seagull''s Nest
[WARNING! You don''t have enough space in your Inventory!]
Xin felt puzzled and decided to check his [Inventory]. He was taken aback to see that it was already full, even though he had only been ying the game for about an hour and a half.
He noticed that he could save up to x99 items in his storage, but there was a catch ¡ª he couldn''t stack multiple copies of the same item together.
Curiosity struck Xin as he wondered if this was the maximum limit for his Inventory. Seeking an answer, he searched through his in-game Library and quickly found information about the [Inventory].
After reading a brief description, he realized that his initial assumption was correct. The limit of x99 items was indeed the capacity of his Inventory, and he would need to manage his items wisely to make room for new ones.
However, once he was out of Newbie Ind and entered towns, he had the option to store his items in banks.
These Banks offered a convenient solution to his inventory space problem. With a bank ount, he could store an unlimited number of items without any restrictions, unlike his limited Inventory.
An icon representing the Bank would appear on his screen too, allowing him to ess it at any time.
One of the advantages of using the Bank was the added safety it provided. Unlike his Inventory, the Bank''s security system prevented the skill [STEAL] from being used to steal his items.
However, utilizing the Bank''s perks came at a cost. He would have to pay a monthly fee to maintain his bank ount. The option which allowed him to store unlimited items required a hefty fee of 100,000 gil per month.
The cheaper version cost 10,000 gil per month and provided storage for up to x999 items. In real money, this tranted to a monthly payment of ten dors.
Still not cheap. Xin mused to himself as he thought of the items to throw and keep. He badly needed to go to Seagull''s Nest and sell all his items to free up his Inventory.
"You okay?" Triton asked when Xin paused.
Xin closed his [Menu] and nodded at Triton. "Yeah."
"Then let''s go. Seagull''s Nest is just around the corner."
When they finally reached their destination, Xin''s breath caught in his throat. The sight before him was like something out of a TV show.
The town was a charming sight, stretching along pebbled beaches and grassy fields. There were prominent rocks scattered throughout the streets, serving as natural backdrops for the buildings. In the water, fishingmunities extended with long piers and houses on stilts.
But what caught Xin''s attention the most was a massive floating rock tethered by enormous chains. It seemed as if the rock was being held in ce, almost like an anchor. One side of the rock was rugged, while the other had a t teau where several houses stood.
From a distance, Xin could see signs hanging, indicating the presence of a bustling market.
The streets were filled with people, mostly humans, and half-elves with bluish skin. They made up the majority of the poption. Other humanoid creatures, like merfolk, were lessmon but still present.
Every now and then, sahuagin and kobold merchants could be seen selling their crafted goods. Horses and oxen were around, but the mostmonly used animals for carrying heavy loads were axe beaks with brown feathers.
Xin was amazed at all the creatures he was seeing, and he had a hard time taking his eyes off the scene.
Among the townsfolk, there were also yers who had been on the ind for a few days. Some of them had reached LV.20, while Xin''s level shot to fifteen, thanks to the vultures that he didn''t defeat.
"Because of maintenance in progress, people in the Floating Market are not allowed to leave for a few days," exined Triton. "This also applied to those in town who wanted to visit the market. The only way to ess the market is through wooden elevator cranes, which are operated by trained axe beaks. These axe beaks will pull ropes and chains to lift the tforms and transport people to the market.
"The townspeople held a belief that if the chains keeping the floating rock in ce were removed, the rock would drift away. To prevent this, the local druid attempted to create moss that would serve as a lubricant for the chains. However, as the mayor had anticipated, this method proved ineffective. The maintenance work on the chains and lifts was postponed until the necessary oil and grease could be obtained.
"Unfortunately, the town is facing a shortage of oil due to extensive whaling, which has disrupted the natural replenishment of whale poptions. To make matters worse, the Reef Raiders have recently stolen barrels of oil from a merchant who is on their way to deliver it to Seagull''s Nest as part of their annual shipment."
As usual, Triton was quick to exin things even without Xin asking. He was grateful, though, since he got a picture of what was going on inside the town.
"Well . . . this is the end of the line for me," Triton said, grinning from ear to ear at Xin. "Just talk to the mayor about finding those dead bodies and im your reward in Ilyath''s shop. Though you have to wait for the oil to arrive to get to the floating market."
"Thank you," Xin said sincerely. Triton was a big help ¨C a very big help.
"Bwahahaha! Don''t worry about it! We''re buddies, after all!" Triton pped Xin''s back, causing thetter to hurl forward. "If you need anything from me, just retrace your steps. I''ll just be on the coast."
"Bye, Lord Schrodinger! See you again!" Triton waved his hand and went back to the shore.
Xin rubbed his injured back and checked the time; his two hours were almost up, so he decided to sell his loot first to see if he could really earn a decent amount of money.
Exploring the town would have to wait for now.
Chapter 12: Drasta’s Trust
Chapter 12: Drasta''s Trust ? ? ?
As Xin approached the floating rock, he could hear the distressed cries of several axe beaks. Six of therge birds were struggling to pull ropes attached to a crane-like mechanism that controlled a massive wooden lift.
However, the chains connected to the lift were mostly rusty and covered in moss, causing them to screech with each turn of the pulleys.
The angry elf, looking like a young adult, yelled at the engineers and soldiers nearby. "That''s it for today! We''re just wearing out the animals. This method won''t do. We need more oil, hopefullying soon!" His voice dripped with frustration.
He turned to face an older woman wearing a shell-adorned robe, disappointment etched on her face. "I told you this wouldn''t work, Drasta!"
Drasta let out a sigh and replied, "I had hoped the moss would help, but it''s clear we need proper oil. We need to find a solution soon."
Xin walked up to Drasta, noticing her authoritative presence in the area. He was eager to unload the weapons and armor he had collected from the corpses, wanting to free up space in his inventory as soon as possible.
"Excuse me," Xin spoke up, trying to get Drasta''s attention.
Drasta turned her gaze towards him, her aged face softening as she caught sight of his lethargic face. "Ah, an adventurer," she remarked.
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Drasta increased to ACQUAINTANCE!]
Hmm . . . how do I turn this off? Xin thought.
"Do you need something?" Drasta inquired, her voice filled with curiosity.
Xin proceeded to exin the situation, detailing the discovery of the corpses on the cliff and presenting the armor and weapons that were left behind by the fallen.
Drasta listened intently, her expression turning serious. "I see . . . so that''s what happened."
Feeling a bit surprised by her swift response, Xin hesitated for a moment before offering, "If you want evidence . . ."
But before he could finish his sentence, Drasta interrupted him, her conviction unwavering. "No need," she stated firmly, locking eyes with Xin. "I believe you one hundred percent."
Confused by her unwavering trust, Xin couldn''t help but think to himself. Shouldn''t she need more evidence, though?
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Drasta increased to FRIENDS!]
"Please, promise me that you won''t share this with Glesga," she pleaded suddenly. "If he asks, even if you have to lie, please do. Glesga won''t understand or ept that not all sahuagin are the same and that not all of the sea folk have a desire for violence. It might lead to a war that is entirely avoidable."
Xin''s head bobbed to one side. "Who''s Glesga?"
"Oh, I''m sorry. You haven''t met him, right? He''s the town''s mayor."
So she wasn''t the leader? Xin thought.
Hmm . . . what would be the appropriate response for this? Xin had a feeling that this scene was a turning point. Something told him that his choice would dictate his future quests.
But since he was just a casual gamer, he picked
[CONGRATULATION! Your Rtionship Level with Drasta increased to INTIMATE!]
Just like with the previous NPCs, once his [Rtionship Level] with them reaching intimate, their information became avable.
¡Î Drasta ¡Î
Medium Humanoid (Half-Elf, Druid), Chaotic Neutral
Drasta''s face bore the marks of a life filled with hardship, despite her half-elven heritage. As a child, she had crossed paths with Glesga, their fates intertwined.
In their teenage years, however, a storm had torn them apart. It was not until a decadeter that Drasta reappeared, carried ashore by a rogue wave.
During her absence, she had found sce among sea elves who recognized her potential as a druid. With newfound skills, she aided Glesga in uniting the fishing viges and rebuilding their town.
Deep concern etched Drasta''s features as she pondered the consequences of Glesga''s ambition. She feared that their once peaceful haven, Seagull''s Nest, could be threatened by raiders, merchants, or even powerful kingdoms whose attention may be drawn to their growing prosperity.
She has the following potions she can sell:
Water breathing (200 gil)
Water Walk (1,000 gil)
¡Î E N D ¡Î
Her information was then stored in Xin''s [Library] under the NPC feature for future reading.
"Thank you! I will have this equipment returned to their families and inform them of what happened. Meanwhile, you can have this."

Runewalkers Boots
Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)
While wearing these special boots, you can use a special action to activate one of six magical symbols carved on them. When you activate a symbol, you can choose one of the following benefits and enjoy it for one hour:
¡ñYou can walk twice as fast as usual.
¡ñYou can jump three times farther than you normally can.
¡ñYou have an advantage when performing acrobatic moves and physical feats.
¡ñYou can climb surfaces just as easily as you can walk, even going upside down on ceilings, without using your hands.
¡ñCreatures have a harder time attacking you from behind.
Once you activate a specific symbol, you have to wait until the next day before you can activate it again. ]
Xin didn''t know if what he acquired was good or bad. But it did say wondrous item and rare, so it must be good. Thebination of wondrous and rare looked good to him.
ording to what he read about the types of items, there was [Common], [Rare], [Very Rare], and [Legendary] or [Artifact] items. There was also the hard-to-find [Wondrous Items], so having two titles stered on a single item was considered good, right?
Rare and valuable items were scarce andmanded high prices in the market. Xin had obtained a pair of boots, but they came with certain restrictions that didn''t sit well with him. He couldn''t equip them, so he made up his mind to sell them instead.
Drasta, noticing Xin''s dilemma, chimed in, offering a solution. "To equip those boots, you''ll need to attune them to yourself. You can visit a smithy or a crafter shop, and they''ll perform the attunement for you. For a price, of course."
Price? "Ah . . . thank you." He would definitely sell this.
Chapter 13: Adventurer’s Guild and Auction
Chapter 13: Adventurer¡¯s Guild and Auction ? ?
Drasta beamed. "Where are you headed next, if I might ask?"
"To a shop."
"Are you going to sell your items?"
Xin nodded.
"Then I suggest you head to the Adventurer''s guild. Every town has one. It''s a ce where yers can trade and sell their items, and you might get a better price for your things there. They also provide assistance to yers and have new quests posted on a daily basis, so it''s worth checking out."
Xin could only nod in return.
With a cheerful expression, Drasta continued on her way, leaving Xin to ponder her suggestion.
As he made his way toward the Adventurer''s Guild, a thought struck him, causing him to pause in his tracks.
Until now, Xin had noticed that he received rare items from NPCs when his [Rtionship Level] with them reached an intimate level. Initially, he had thought it was merely a part of a quest and hadn''t given it much thought. However, now he wondered if this pattern would hold true with other NPCs as well.
Curiosity sparked within him, and he decided to put his theory to the test by attempting to reach an intimate level with other NPCs.
He still had ten minutes, enough time to test his theory, and went for a Dwarven merchant on the side of the street.
"Hi," Xin greeted.
And as he expected, his [Rtionship Level] with Thrumble Stoneforge increased to [Acquaintance] at just a greeting.
"Well, ain''t ye a friendly one! What brings ye to me humble stall?"
"I was just passing . . ."
"Ye''ve got a good eye,d! These here are the finest creations on this side of the ind. What catches yer fancy?
"Uhmm . . ."
"Ahuh! I know! You can have this Arkrune! Aye, ''twas abor of love, that one. Spent weeks channelin'' me dwarven magic into it, enhancin'' its effect and potency. It''s a piece of my heart, that Arkrune!"

Xin was ecstatic that his theory was correct.
"Thank you."
"Ye tter me,d. But I can see ye appreciate fine craftsmanship. Tell ye what, since ye seem like a genuine fe, I''ll give ye a special discount on all my items here. 50% off! Consider it a gesture of goodwill between INTIMATE friends! Harharhar!"
". . ."
Xin didn''t like the sound of intimate friends, especially with a guy, so he hurriedly said his thanks and left.
At least, he tested his theory and came out correct in the end. Now it was time to head over to the guild.
The Adventurer''s Guild on the ind stood as a remarkable sight, its architecture showcasing a blend of practicality and grandeur. The building itself was a sturdy structure, constructed primarily with timber and stone, reflecting a rustic charm that resonated with the ind''s natural surroundings.
The guild hall featured a thatched roof that sloped gracefully, sheltering the interior from the elements. Intricate wooden carvings adorned the outer walls, depicting scenes of heroic quests and legendary creatures, capturing the essence of adventure.
Above the entrance, a massive wooden sign proudly disyed the guild''s emblem ¡ª a crossed sword and staff, symbolizing the harmony between martial prowess and intellectual pursuits.
As Xin stepped inside, he was greeted by an expansivemon area bustling with activity. The interior was open and spacious, with high ceilings supported by sturdy wooden beams.
Sunlight poured throughrge windows, casting warm hues on the polished wooden floor. The walls were adorned with maps, banners, and various weapons and artifacts.
A central hearth crackled with a cozy fire, around which yers gathered and shared information. Seating arrangements scattered throughout the hall provided spaces for rest and socializing, with yers and NPCs from different races and backgrounds engaged in lively conversations.
At the far end of the hall, a prominent notice board disyed a medley of parchment papers, each containing details of new quests and bounties.
Nearby, a bustling trade area offered merchants and vendors an opportunity to showcase their goods, their stalls brimming with weapons, armor, potions, and other adventuring essentials.
Above the main hall, a spiraling staircase led to upper levels, housing private chambers for guild leaders, trainers, and the guild''s extensive library.
The library, with its towering bookshelves and cozy reading nooks, held a wealth of knowledge on monsters, ancient artifacts, and forgotten realms, providing a haven for schrs and researchers.
No one paid Xin any mind when he entered. Everyone was busy doing their own thing.
He went directly to the front desk, and an NPC named Emma greeted him with all smiles.
"Hello there!"
Xin ignored the notification popping on his screen saying that he and Emma were now [Acquaintance].
He was eager to sell his items before he ran out of time. With the warning sign blinking on his screen, signaling his impending logout, he had to act quickly.
"Hi. I''ve got some items to sell," he said, his voice filled with urgency though his face remained nk. The minutes ticking away added pressure to his already hurried demeanor.
His quest for NPC domination to acquire their rare items would have to wait until his next login. He hoped to make some quick coin by selling his items before he was forced to leave the virtual world.
As the guild member prepared to assess Xin''s items, time seemed to be slipping away rapidly. Xin couldn''t help but feel a sense of urgency, wondering if he would be able toplete the transaction in time.
"Whoa, you''ve got some really special items here," Emma eximed with excitement. "If you want to get the most out of them, I''d rmend auctioning them off."
"Auction?"
As usual, the more Xin replied, the more the NPCs [Rtionship Level] with him increased though he had gotten used to it by this point.
"Indeed, by putting your items up for auction, many yers will have the chance to see and bid on them," Emma borated. "You can choose how long you want the auction to run, and during that time, the items will be listed at their regr prices. If no one bids by the end of the auction, the guild will buy the items from you at the regr market price. Just keep in mind that there''s a 5% fee on every sessful auctioned item."

Chapter 14: Fortune Favors the Bold
Hmm . . . Xin thought about what she said carefully and decided to go with the auction.
"Great! How many days should we keep the auction running? Keep in mind that the longer the auction run, the higher the potential price for your items, as more people will have a chance to bid. However, we have a maximum limit of one week."
Xin needed the money, so he said, "Tomorrow at . . . ten in the morning?" He wasn''t sure if that was a good time or not.
"Alright, tomorrow at ten in the morning it is. Just a reminder, you can adjust the time using our app. Simply download the app, log in with your gamer''s ount, and you''ll be able to see your stats and auctioned items along with other helpful features. This was pretty handy to have, especially for a starting adventurer like him. Xin thought to himself and said his thanks.
He was also relieved to know that he could adjust the duration of the auction ording to his preference. This made him feel more at ease.
Curiosity struck Xin, wondering if his [Rtionship Level] with Emma would decrease if he auctioned the [Explorer''s Pack]. To satisfy his curiosity, he tested it out. However, he noticed that Emma simply smiled brightly without making anyments or objections.
Baffled by this, he put up his screen and read in his [Library]. Once his [Rtionship Level] with an NPC reached [Intimate], there was no decreasing it.
Ha . . .
Emma blushed and nervously suggested, "Um . . . I have a break in about thirty minutes. If you want, we could grab breakfast at the nearest . . ."
But before she could finish her sentence, Xin abruptly walked away, seemingly ignoring her. He noticed a prompt on his screen about marrying her, but he decided to log out.
Back in the real world, Xin looked at the clock and realized it was only around three in the morning. It seemed strange because, in the game, it had felt like it was already nine in the morning.
Intrigued, he decided to search for information online and discovered that Guildbane had its own unique timeline that differed from the real world. Although time passed at the same rate as in reality, the game''s internal clock operated independently.
As Xin turned off his phone and settled into the thin mattress on the floor, he attempted to drift off to sleep.
However, his mind was still buzzing with thoughts from the game, making it challenging to doze off. It took him a whole extra hour of tossing and turning before sleep finally embraced him.
But little did Xin know that his dream would take a peculiar turn. In his slumber, he found himself surrounded by a swarm of eager NPCs, all moring for his hand in marriage. They bombarded him with proposals, each one more enthusiastic than thest.
He had a nightmare that day.

In the vast virtual world of Guildbane, guilds were abundant and yed a vital role in the game. Being part of the top one hundred guilds was considered an achievement in itself, given the sheer number of guilds that existed.
However, the top ten guilds stood on an entirely different level. They were in a league of their own, with prestigious sponsors backing them and ess to the best equipment and resources money had to offer.
These guilds had a reputation for excellence and were highly sought after by yers aspiring to reach the pinnacle of gaming sess.

They were backed by multibillion-dor corporations that saw the potential of e-sports and invested heavily in these elite gaming organizations.
Within these guilds, professional yers with million-dor contracts honed their skills and represented their guilds inpetitive tournaments. These yers were revered as gaming legends, their names known by everyone worldwide ¨C gamers or not.
Joining one of the top ten guilds was an arduous taskparable to facing a series of rigorous tests. It involved abination of real-world assessments and in-game challenges designed to weed out all but the most exceptional yers. The selection process was highlypetitive, akin to taking a board exam, and only the very best of the best yers stood a chance of gaining entry.
The top ten guilds were a symbol of excellence, power, and prestige. Their members were respected and admired, not just within the gamingmunity but in the wider world as well. They represented the epitome of gaming achievement, a pinnacle that many yers aspired to reach but only a select few could ever attain.
Right now, the top guilds in Guildbane were engaged in a fierce battle within the game''s Auction Features. These guilds were known for umting valuable items and most yers used them as a means to enter the guilds of their choice. As a result, rare and sought-after items were seldom seen in the Auction House.

The top guilds were dominating the Auction, and the little guilds could do nothing but attack social media for the unfairness of it all.
¡Î F O R U M N S ¡Î
SilentStriker: Can you believe the top guilds spending insane amounts of money at the Auction? They''re wasting it all!
CraftyGamer: I know, right? It''s like they have an endless supply of gold. Meanwhile, we''re struggling to even upgrade our weapons.
ShadowSeeker: I envy their resources, but at the same time, it feels like they''re just showing off. Is it really necessary?
LuckyCharms: It''s all about prestige for them. They want to maintain their reputation and dominance in the gaming world.
IamBeautiful: I am Beautiful
WanderingSoul: I admire their dedication, though. They''re willing to invest so much to secure their position. I wish we had that kind of backing.
EXPisLife: EXP is LIFE!
GamingEnthusiast: True, but it''s frustrating when they monopolize all the rare items. We, little guilds, don''t stand a chance against their deep pockets.
DigitalNinja: We should focus on our skills and teamwork instead of relying on money. That''s what truly matters in the end.
DreamChaser: Agreed, but a little bit of extra gold wouldn''t hurt, either. It''s tough not to feel a tinge of jealousy.

When Xin woke up, it was already past 10 in the morning, and his sister Xiaxia had already left for school.
"Oh well . . . I''ll talk to herter," Xin thought to himself as he folded his mattress to clear some space in the room. He wanted to set up the table and have breakfast, or rather brunch.
But then it hit him.
He had forgotten to download the app and check the Auction. He had overslept, and the reason became clear - he had forgotten to turn on the extension wire, and his phone didn''t charge overnight. It waspletely dead, and since it was an old model with worn-out batteries, it would take at least five minutes to charge enough to turn it on.
The Auction must have finished by now.
Realizing that he couldn''t do anything about the Auction, Xin shrugged off the disappointment.
He looked around the house, which seemed empty. It appeared that his mother had already gone to work.
As Xin was about to head to the kitchen, the bedroom door swung open, and his mother, Evelyn, stepped out in her office attire.
"You''re awake, good!" she eximed in a rush. "Go take a bath. NOW! We''re going somewhere."
Xin nced at his dead phone and then back at his mother, who seemed to be in a hurry.
Without saying a word, Xin realized that he wouldn''t be able to download the app for now.
Chapter 16: The Big Boss
Chapter 16: The Big Boss ? ? ?
As Xin and his mother arrived at the designated restaurant, he couldn''t help but notice the grandeur of the building. It stood tall and elegant, with a sign disying its name in bold letters.
However, Evelyn had forgotten to mention one crucial detail ¨C this was no ordinary restaurant. This was a five-star Michelin-awarded Japanese restaurant.
When they stepped inside, Xin was in awe though his face remained impassive.
The interior was opulent, adorned with intricate decorations and luxurious furnishings. The soft lighting created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The air was filled with a mix of enticing aromas, making Xin''s stomach rumble in anticipation.
A kind staff led them towards a private room tucked away in a secluded corner of the restaurant. The door opened, revealing a beautifully designed space.
The room exuded an air of exclusivity with itsvish d¨¦cor and carefully arranged table settings. The walls were adorned with traditional Japanese artwork, adding a touch of cultural elegance.
The table itself was a work of art, meticulously set with fine porcin dishes, crystal ssware, and polished silverware. Delicate orchids graced the center, their vibrant colors adding natural beauty to the setting.
This was clearly a ce where only the wealthy and famous dined, and Xin suddenly felt out of ce in his sneakers, hoodie, and sweatpants.
Xin took a sit and looked around the private room. He noticed the discreet presence of the restaurant staff, attentively waiting to cater to their every need.
If he remembered it right, this private room charged per minute.
The person his mother was about to meet must be really rich.
Xin heard about this ce even before. Apparently, this restaurant sold $100 water, and out of curiosity, he checked the price on the menu, and he was wrong.
It was now $150!
With a low whistle, Xin began reading the description of this extraordinary water. The ingredients were listed with great care, showcasing their uniqueness and unparalleled quality.
Xin read the ingredients in a low voice, "cial Water from Arctic Springs, Himyan Pink Salt Infusion, Nordic Iceberg Essence. Huh? Is that a thing?
"Amazon Rainforest Rainwater. Where do they even get it? Italian Truffle Essence . . . mushrooms? On a drink?"
Xin slowly shook his head and continued, "French Artisan Spring Blend, Japanese Cherry Blossom Extract, Saffron, Lemons, Mint, White Truffles, Yubari King Melon, Vani Orchid."
There were descriptions of each ingredient, too, but Xin didn''t bother. It seemed that this water was more like a work of art than a mere beverage.
As he read on, Xin couldn''t help but wonder who would be willing to spend such a staggering amount on a ss of water.
The person his mother was about to meet must indeed be incredibly wealthy to casually dine in a ce where even water came with a jaw-dropping price tag.
Xin casually leaned over to Evelyn and whispered, "Mom, you''re not going to pay for this, are you?"
Evelyn choked on her tea, and she quicklyposed herself. "Of course not. I would never eat in this ce."
Xin straightened on his chair. "Good."
"It just so happened that my boss owned this ce, and he said to meet up here," she casually informed with a sip of tea.
"Hmm . . ." Xin looked to the side. "So we''re meeting your boss?"
"That''s right."
Xin heard about Michael Fey, his mother''s boss. Apparently, he''s the eldest son of the Feys, one of the top ten wealthiest people in the world.
The Fey''s were like powerhouse traders ¨C unbeatable merchants.
They owned countless ports, mines, oils, jewelry stores, restaurants, and hotels, to name a few. Sitting on top of it all was none other than Michael Fey himself.
Even now, Xin couldn''t understand why this powerful boss would hire his mother, considering she didn''t have the best qualifications for a toppany.
Although he didn''t mean to be disrespectful, Evelyn wasn''t exactly the most qualified person for such a prestigious position.
But what surprised him even more, was that this boss had loaned his mother money for his medical expenses without charging any interest.
"Boss Fey is one of the directors at Fate Academy, where your sister is currently studying. Maybe he can help us out," Evelyn started.
"Are you going to ask him for help again?" Xin questioned, his voice filled with skepticism.
Evelyn remained unfazed by Xin''s tone. "Why not? We need all the help we can get."
Xin took a deep breath and expressed his concern. "I just hope this help doesn''te with a price."
Evelyn stared at Xin and let out augh. "Of course it does. Nothing in this world is free. But don''t worry; I''ll work it off like I always do."
"In this case, you''ll be working for him until you die," Xin remarked with a hint of sarcasm.
"I don''t mind. Working for him is rewarding," Evelyn replied with a grin. "We get sry increases every year, two bonuses annually, 30 vacation days, overtime pays, insurances, and other benefits. Plus, you get to travel around the world with the boss."
"Will it be enough to pay off X XXX XXX that you owe him?"
Evelyn''s smile faltered. "Can you just be positive and have faith in your mom?"
In the next moment, the door swung open, revealing a man in histe forties. His hair, a shade of silver resembling white, was neatly styled.
Despite his age, his face had sharp angles, giving it a distinguished look. His eyes, a deep purple, seemed too narrow, giving off an intense and almost angry expression, entuated by his thick eyebrows resembling a phoenix''s wings.
He was impably dressed in an expensive suit, plemented by a dark leather coat. As he entered, his presencemanded attention, drawing the gaze of everyone in the room.
It didn''t require a genius to recognize that the man before them was Michael Fey.
Evelyn quickly stood up, and Xin followed suit, both lowering their heads as a sign of respect and gratitude for his assistance.
"Good morning, Mr. Fey," Evelyn greeted with a tone of formality that was unfamiliar to Xin, who was used to her cheerful voice at home.
Michael raised his hand. "Sit."
His voice resonated with power and authority. Being in the presence of Michael Fey was truly overwhelming, and even the bravest would feel a sense of intimidation under his prating gaze.
Xin couldn''t help but wonder how his mother managed to handle his presence on a daily basis.
He nced at Evelyn again, noting herposed and formal demeanor, which contrasted with her usual self at home.
He had clearly underestimated her.
Just as Xin''s attention was captivated by Michael Fey, another figure entered the room ¨C this time a woman.
She was undeniably beautiful, and her presence added a touch of elegance to the already impressive atmosphere.
Chapter 17: Welcome Back
Chapter 17: Wee Back
"Lady Seraphina. It''s nice to see you again," Evelyn began and stood up, but Seraphina interrupted with a firmmand.
"Sit."
Yep. He could see the resemnce. Xin thought. She must be Michael''s daughter.
Observing her closely, Xin estimated that Seraphina was older than him.
Hers was a harsh austere beauty with purple eyes. Her long, flowing light blue hair almost appeared white under the room''s bright lights.
She was dressed in a tight light blue dress that hugged her figure, adorned with delicate crystals andce at the hem. A shiny pink diamond ne adorned her neck, and she wore a rare Bijoux watch on her wrist. Completing her ensemble was a white coat and boots.
Xin estimated that her entire outfit cost a fortune, easily worth millions of dors. Just the Bijoux watch alone was valued at around ten million or more.
The brand was highly regarded among the wealthy and influential. Owning at least one set was considered a status symbol in high society.
They were all the rage on [ClipCraze], a popr social media app where influencers, socialites, and celebrities showcased their extravagant lifestyles.
Seraphina''s face possessed a captivating allure, fitting for the cover of any magazine, while her body exuded the elegance of a runway model.
However, Xin couldn''t help but notice that she didn''t smile. Not that he was judging her, as he himself rarely smiled.
Seconds when Michael entered the room, the waitstaff swiftly began serving the food. Xin gulped as he beheld the extravagant and exquisite dishes before him. It was like nothing he had ever seen or imagined.
The table was adorned with an array of delicacies, meticulously arranged with artistic precision. Sushi rolls glistened with fresh fish and vibrant vegetables, each one a miniature work of art. Slices of sashimi, so tender they seemed to melt in the mouth, were delicately arranged on a bed of ice.
Steaming bowls of miso soup emitted a tantalizing aroma, filled with fragrant herbs and ingredients that Xin couldn''t even pronounce. Tempura shrimp and vegetables were fried to a perfect golden crispness, their light and airy coating tempting his taste buds.
Colorful tes of yakitori skewers showcased sulent pieces of grilled meat seasoned with a tantalizing blend of spices and sauces. And there, in the center of it all, sat a tter of the most prized delicacy ¡ª Wagyu beef. The marbling on the meat was so intricate that it resembled a piece of edible art.
Xin''s stomach grumbled with anticipation as he eyed the delectable feast spread before him. The aroma of the food filled the room, making it hard for him to contain his hunger. He hadn''t had breakfast, after all.
However, he restrained himself. He didn''t want to embarrass his mother.
Michael and Seraphina were eating with grace and poise, with all the etiquette ironed with them since they were young. He had to match that at least, or try his best to act like a proper, educated human being.
"I''m d that you''re out of the hospital, Xin," Michael started.
"Augh . . . thank you." What was the best reply for this? Xin thought. Rather, how does he continue the conversation?
His mind raced to find the right words to respond. He didn''t want to appear rude or ungrateful for their generosity.
Michael ced his chopstick on its holder and looked at Xin straight in the eyes while the chief cooked the wagyu beef to perfection.
"Evelyn told me about your circumstances. Do you want to go to school again?"
Michael''s gaze was really intense, and Xin tried to match its intensity.
"Yes."
With his mother''s heels digging against his shoe, he really couldn''t say no.
"Then all you have to do is pass some test. Don''t worry. It''s rather easy. But I''m afraid that it will only advance you for two years. If you pass, you''ll be a first-year college in Fate Academy."
". . ." First-year. . . He should be a third year by now, like Xiaxia, but Xin tried not to think about the years that left him because he couldn''t help but feel a pang of sadness and regret.
Xin couldn''t help but feel a wave of emotion whenever he was reminded of the four years he had lost during hisa. It was as if time had stood still for him while the world around him had continued to move forward.
The pain of those missed years stirred up a mix of negative emotions inside him that he struggled to handle.
To cope with these emotions, Xin found it easier to push those memories aside and pretend that they didn''t exist. It was a way for him to protect himself and make it through each day without dwelling on what he had missed.
"I''ll try my best," Xin replied.
Michael nodded. "My daughter Seraphina is a graduating student at Fate Academy. You can search for her thising Monday to help you around campus and your exam."
So she''s a senior. Xin thought briefly, looking at Seraphina''s way, but thetter was busy with her meal. Her face was a mask, beautiful, solemn, guarded, a face that gave nothing away.
"Its fine," Xin was quick to reply. "My sister is also going there. I can ask her. There''s no need to trouble your daughter."
"It''s no trouble at all, right Seraphina?"
Instead of answering, Seraphina stood to her feet, thanked her father for lunch, and grabbed her purse.
"I''m sorry, I have to leave first. I have a ss after this," she said, her voice strangely t but soothing.
Seraphina''s outfit seemed too fancy for a regr ss. Xin had initially thought she was headed to a party or some special event.
But he quickly reminded himself that Fate Academy was filled with elite students, so it shouldn''t havee as a surprise.
Seraphina approached the door, paused, and looked his way. Xin expected her to say something dismissive or rude, given her aloof demeanor throughout their interaction.
However, to his astonishment, she stared directly at him. And then, for the first time, she smiled ¡ª a radiant smile that transformed her beautiful face into divine.
"Wee back from the dead," she said, voice warm and teasing.
And she was gone.
Chapter 18: Unspoken Confessions
Chapter 18: Unspoken Confessions
"Sorry about her," Michael said, his face showing no emotion but his voice sounded genuine.
Xin couldn''t help but think that Michael was incredibly charismatic.
"Its fine, Mr. Fey. It''s already a miracle that Lady Seraphina joined us for lunch today," Evelyn replied.
"You''re right. She often doesn''t want to have lunch with me." Michael leaned over, resting his chin on his intertwined fingers, his gaze fixed on Xin. "I wonder what made her change her mind."
Both Evelyn and Xin resumed eating, their expression clueless.
"I''m sorry, I have to take this call." Michael reached for his phone when it rang and excused himself from the room.
When Michael was gone, Xin leaned towards his mother and whispered, "Does she . . . does she know me?"
"You mean Lady Seraphina?"
Xin nodded, curious to know if Lady Seraphina knew him.
Evelyn smiled knowingly, understanding Xin''s curiosity. She had been equally baffled by thedy''s sudden smile, as she had never seen her smile before.
"Well, Lady Seraphina maye across as cold and distant, but she''s actually a nice girl," Evelyn assured Xin.
Xin couldn''t help but make a sidement, "Well, she''s rich. She has nothing to stress about.
"Not all rich people are snobs, you know," Evelyn responded, slightly exasperated. "You''d be surprised to find that many of them are genuinely kind-hearted."
"They can afford to be kind because they''re rich," Xin retorted.
"Can you please stop being so negative?" Evelyn sighed. "In fact, Lady Seraphina visited you once."
Xin paused, surprised by this revtion. "She did?"
"Yes, she did. And she was the one who approved my loan from thepany," Evelyn exined.
"I see . . . She probably visited to confirm my condition and to make sure you weren''t lying," Xin dismissed, shifting his attention to his food.
In his mind, Seraphina was way out of his league, so he didn''t give much thought about her strange actions anymore.
Evelyn didn''t respond, her thoughts consumed by the question of why Lady Seraphina personally went to the hospital to check on Xin. They have a lot of departments and people for those kinds of jobs.
The mystery continued to baffle her even to this day.
Their conversation came to a pause as Michael returned to the room and addressed Evelyn, "Are you going to work this afternoon?" he inquired.
Evelyn responded promptly, "Yes."
"Good. We have a meeting with Mr. Ronaldez at two. You can ride with me back to the office," Michael informed her.
Evelyn hesitated, ncing at Xin.
Sensing her concern, Michael quickly added, "We can drop off your son."
"Don''t worry about me," Xin interjected. "I want to explore the area and get familiar with my new surroundings."
"Are you sure?" Evelyn asked, her worry evident.
Xin nodded in affirmation.
"Then please excuse me. I''ll just get ready," Evelyn said, grabbing her purse before she headed to the restroom, leaving Xin and Michael alone.
Xin finished his dessert, aware of Michael''s observant gaze. However, hecked the emotions necessary to feel intimidated. Instead, he felt the need to take the initiative.
"You . . . ," Xin began, locking eyes with Michael, "you have feelings for my mother."
Michael''s stoic expression cracked a little.
Xin had hit the mark.
"Why did you say that?" Michael questioned, his tone guarded.
"There''s no use hiding it." Xin took a deep breath, cut the cake into bite-sized pieces, and brought it into his mouth
"Lending her money without interest. Taking her to lunch in an expensive restaurant."
"Those are just normal things to do if you''re a boss."
"Is stealing nces at her normal too?"
". . ."
Xin finished his dessert and faced Michael. Thetter''s face was stone hard, but he revealed a small smile.
"You''re very perceptive."
"Its very obvious."
"Only your mother doesn''t seem to notice."
"My mother is rather ignorant to this kind of things." Xin knew because even at her age, his mother still received nces from men, and she either did not notice it or pretended not to notice them.
"There''s no way she would think that someone like you would like her. Not in a million years. And love isn''t her priority right now. It would take a direct approach if you wanted her to notice your advances," Xin advised.
Michael stifled augh. "I take it that you aren''t against me?"
Xin paused, unsure of what to think.
"My mother has always prioritized us above everything else. Ever since our father left when we were young, she hasn''t been with anyone," Xin exined. "If we were still children, it might be different, but now that we''re adults . . . We can take care of ourselves, and it''s time for her to think about herself."
Xin spoke earnestly. He couldn''t bear to see his mother continue sacrificing her happiness for their sake.
His gaze locked with Michael''s, conveying the gravity of his words. "I would like it if my mother is happy . . . If you can make her happy . . . then I''m not against it," Xin dered firmly.
His eyes then narrowed with a hint of warning. "But if you hurt her . . . you will regret it."
Xin knew hecked the power and status to match Michael, making his words audacious.
However, this was a promise, and he always honored his promises, no matter what the cost.
Xin had a gut feeling that it wouldn''t be simple to win over his mother''s heart, even for someone like Michael Fey.
Xin could sense that Michael understood this as well, which is why he was being careful and taking things slowly.
Michael straightened on his seat, his face serious. He was about to open his mouth when Evelyn barged inside.
Evelyn paused, sensing the tense atmosphere in the room, and asked in ignorant, "Did something happen?"
"None." Both the boys said at the same time.
Evelyn wasn''t convinced, but then she shrugged it off and walked to Xin. "Here, in case if you want to buy something. Don''t go homete, okay?"
Xin epted the money while Michael told him, "You can order more on the menu if you like. Don''t worry; everything you''ll order is already paid."
And with that, the two left.

Chapter 19: A Fruitful Day
Chapter 19: A Fruitful Day ? ?
Xin grabbed the menu and didn''t shy away from Michael''s offer. He was not one to refuse blessings when it was given.
He decided to order takeouts. One that he hadn''t tried yet. And, of course, he didn''t forget to order his mother and Xiaxia''s favorite.
Omakase Sushi: Chef''s choice of the freshest and most premium cuts of fish served over seasoned rice. Wagyu Beef. Uni (Sea Urchin) Sashimi: Delicate and creamy sea urchin roe, a prized delicacy.
Tempura. Chirashi Bowl: A bowl of sushi rice topped with an assortment of sashimi and other seafood delicacies. Sukiyaki: Thinly sliced beef cooked in a sweet soy-based broth with vegetables and tofu.
Kaiseki. Fugu (Pufferfish). And Unagi (Eel) Kabayaki: Grilled eel zed with a sweet soy-based sauce.
Looks like dinner was served, as well as their food for tomorrow. Xin thought.
He also ordered Udon Noodles for Meilyn. It was her favorite to the point that they made Friday their Udon day.
Xin was nning to visit her house after this and had a good talk with her.
She would surely be surprised. Xin thought and got excited at the prospect of seeing her again. He wondered what her reaction would be like.
Maybe she would think of him as a ghost and freak out.
"That would be hrious," Xin uttered.
While waiting for his takeouts, Xin could finally ess his phone. The power bank had charged it at fifty percent enough to open it. And it was time to check . . . the map.
He wanted to know where he was and where his previous address was because Meilyn''s house was in the same neighborhood as their previous house.
Xin paused when he suddenly thought of something.
Right . . . he also had to download Guildbane''s app.
While the app was downloading, he took a moment to assess the distance between his current location and their previous house. He was surprised to discover that it would take around thirty minutes by bus, with the potential for longer travel times during peak traffic hours.
"I guess I have to take the Exia Bus going to Zone A''s Area 44 . . . ," Xin muttered. There was a Bus stop near where he was, so that would make things easy.
Xin found himself in an unfamiliar part of Zone A, Area 0. He rarely ventured into this area, as it was known to be frequented by the incredibly wealthy who came here for shopping and fine dining.
Currently, the world was divided into different Zones and Areas, each catering to a specific socioeconomic group.
Areas 0 to 20 were where the upper ss predominantly resided, with luxurious private estates and big corporations dotting thendscape.
Areas 21 to 50 were home to the middle ss, with a mix of residential areas and bustling businesses driving the local economy.
Beyond Area 50y the lower-ss areas, where the poor and small business owners often lived. These ces were more remote, requiring one to four hours of travel time to reach the city. Agriculture and factories were prevalent in these areas, and many residents worked in these fields.
Xin''s previous house was located in Area 44, while his current residence was situated in Area 77. To travel from his current house to Area 44, it would take approximately two hours by bus or one hour by train.
It was shorter to take the bus here to Area 44.
After he calcted the distance and the hours of travel he would take, Xin looked at the time. It was just one in the afternoon. He had enough time to visit Meilyn and chat with her.
After that was done, Xin finally checked his Guildbane ount. When he did, he froze.
Something was clearly wrong with his ount. Xin checked again and again, but it was undeniably his own ount.
"Lord Schrodinger," he muttered, confirming that everything appeared the same as when he hadst logged out.
However, there was one significant difference ¡ª he now had an additional 71,000,000 gil in his ount.
This didn''t make sense. Xin thought. Was his gil bugged or glitched in some way?
Upon closer inspection, he realized that it was all rted to the Auction. To his surprise, the items he had obtained for free and listed for sale were sold for exorbitant prices, totaling millions of gil.
Xin couldn''t help but be astounded. He had severely underestimated the value of these rare items and the potential earnings they could generate in the Auction.
With a mix of excitement and skepticism, Xin decided to explore the app''s features and see if he could indeed convert his newfound gil into real money. The thought of having $71,000 in his hands was almost too good to be true.
As he navigated through the app, he realized that it required him to input his bank ount information. Since he didn''t have a bank ount yet, he entered his E-cash ount instead.
E-cash was a popr digital online banking app that allowed users to make payments and transactions conveniently. It had be widely used for purchasing goods and services, offering a hassle-free alternative to physical money. Additionally, it offered various perks and credit points for frequent users.
Almost everyone has an E-cash ount, and it has be amon way of managing finances in the digital age.
Xin would just apply for a bank ountter on so he could withdraw huge amounts of money from his E-cash if he wanted to.
The transfer waspleted after he paid the transaction fee. Xin quickly checked his E-cash and found the $71 000 sitting there.
He couldn''t believe it at first. How could he have this kind of money by just ying the game for two hours?
This was definitely bugged, and Xin was more motivated than ever to get the NPCs to [Intimate] with him and acquire their rare items if this was the potential money he would earn.
His brain did a quick thinking of what to do with the money, and the first thing he thought was to buy a Headgear so he could have more time in Guildbane.
The rest . . . he would give it to his mother to pay off the debt . . . or maybe use it as a down payment to buy back the house?
Xin was sure that Michael Fey wasn''t in a rush to get his money back, so the debt with him was the lowest priority right now.
There were also the lending corporations that his mother had taken a loan for his medical fees, so he would have to pay that off too.
Xin''s eyes shone for the first time. A goal was forming in his mind.
Xiaxia was right ¨C¨C the game was addicting as long as money was involved.

Chapter 20: Seeking Meilyn
Chapter 20: Seeking Meilyn
As Xin settled into his seat on the bus, he nced out the window and observed the changes in Zone A.
The once-familiar city had transformed over the course of four years, leaving him with a sense of unease. Buildings had risen, ndscapes had shifted, and everything seemed somewhat unfamiliar.
Trying to push these unsettling thoughts aside, Xin redirected his focus to his uing meeting with Meilyn. Mixed emotions of unease and excitement swirled within him, causing a tumultuous whirlwind in his mind.
Though it had only been days since hest saw her, it would surely feel like an eternity for her.
Resting his elbow against the window frame, Xin leaned his face on his hand, gazing out at the passing scenery.
However, he couldn''t help but be gued by the lingering doubts nted by Xiaxia''s words. They gnawed at his thoughts, casting a shadow of uncertainty over his anticipation.
''She hasn''t visited you in three years.''
''She doesn''t care about you anymore!''
Xin fought against the consuming power of Xiaxia''s words, determined to hold onto the promise he and Meilyn had made and the connection they had shared since childhood.
Xin was hopeful that he could mend his rtionship with Meilyn, even if she had moved on and forgotten about him.
He decided to take the opportunity to court her properly this time, as there hadn''t been any formal courting before since it was Meilyn who had confessed her feelings first.
Eventually, when Xin stood in front of Meilyn''s house, his courage wavered with each passing second. He found himself hesitating, repeatedly approaching the doorbell only to retreat before pressing it. The echoes of Xiaxia''s words reverberated in his mind, adding to his uncertainty.
After what felt like an hour, Xin mustered the final shreds of his courage and took a deep breath before pressing the doorbell.
Time seemed to stretch and crawl, feeling every passing second of it. Finally, the door swung open, revealing Meilyn''s startled mother.
Her eyes widened in shock as if she had seen a ghost rise from the grave. "Xin? You''re alive?!" she eximed, her voice filled with disbelief.
Xin''s heart stung at her words, but he chose to ignore the pain and responded politely, "Hello, Auntie. Yes, I''m alive."
Aunt Mei squinted her eyes in confusion. "But . . . I thought you were in aa, never to wake up. I remember my dear Meilyn crying for months, mourning your death."
Xin felt another blow to his gut, but he maintained aposed expression, though he was bleeding inside.
''Please don''t kill me just yet.'' Xin mused to himself.
"I am very much alive, Auntie," Xin replied, keeping his voice steady.
"By the way, where is Meilyn? I need to talk to her." Xin cut to the chase, before Aunt Mei decided to bury him in her next words.
He needed to find Meilyn as soon as possible.
Aunt Mei''s tense demeanor eased as she realized that it was indeed Xin standing before her.
"Meilyn isn''t here. She''s at school," Aunt Mei informed him.
Xin''s heart sank as the realization hit him.
It was Friday, a school day, and he had momentarily forgotten. Even Xiaxia had gone to school in the morning. How could he have overlooked such a basic detail?
The desperation to see Meilyn had clouded his mind, blinding him to the fact that she would be at school at this hour.
Xin''s face showed a glimmer of hope as he asked, "Can I ask which school?"
Aunt Mei''s face immediately lit up, and her voice brimmed with pride as she spoke, "Oh, you know, that prestigious school everyone is talking about. Fate Academy, where only the rich and intelligent people go. Our Meilyn passed their entrance exam with flying colors! And she''s going to be a doctor! A doctor! You know that very hard profession that only a few gifted people could pass!"
As Aunt Mei went on and on, Xin couldn''t help but notice her growing excitement and the evident satisfaction she took in discussing her daughter''s achievements.
It was like she had been eagerly waiting for someone to engage in conversation about Meilyn.
Realizing that he couldn''t meet Meilyn at her school today, Xin handed the container of Udon noodles to Aunt Mei and said, "Please give this to her and let her know that I''lle again tomorrow."
He hoped that there wouldn''t be any sses on the weekend, at least, giving him a chance to see Meilyn.
Aunt Mei''s eyes sparkled with delight as she spotted the brand on the container. "Of course, of course. Thank you so much for this."
The twinkle in her eyes told Xin that she was going to eat it herself, but he didn''t mind. It was a rule that when you court a girl, you court her whole family.
With their goodbyes exchanged, Xin decided to go shopping for a new helmet. If he couldn''t see Meilyn today, he might as well make good use of his time.
Xin resolved toe back tomorrow, hopeful that he would be able to see Meilyn by then.
Chapter 21: Secret Eavesdropping
Chapter 21: Secret Eavesdropping ? ? ?
Against his better judgment, Xin found himself waiting outside the gates of Fate Academy, driven by his emotions and a strong desire to see Meilyn.
The journey to this ce had taken him thirty minutes by bus from Meilyn''s house since it wasn''t rush hour yet.
He still had enough time, so he decided to wait for her. If he went home, he wouldn''t be able to stop thinking about her, so he might as well wait for her in her school.
Leaning against the wall, Xin patiently waited as the students began to pour out from the gate, their voices filling the air.
"Hey, isn''t that boy cute?" one of the girls nudged her friend, pointing at Xin.
The other girl agreed and giggled. "Do you think he''s waiting for his girlfriend?"
"Maybe, but I feel sorry for her," another girl chimed in.
"Why do you say that?"
"His shoes are so old, and his clothes are not branded."
"Now that you mention it . . ."
"Such a shame. He''s quite attractive."
"Well, I wouldn''t mind. I''m rich, so he could be my man."
"You mean to be your pet, right?"
The girls burst intoughter as they walked away.
Lost in his search for Meilyn, Xin remained focused and oblivious to the conversations around him.
As his eyes scanned the sea of students, he suddenly caught sight of Meilyn among the crowd. His heart skipped a beat, and his body moved on its own ord, drawing him closer to her. With each step, his anticipation grew, and he could hardly contain his excitement.
Meilyn, engrossed in conversation with her friends, was taken aback when she noticed Xin approaching. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and her words caught in her throat.
"X-Xin?" she stammered, her voice filled with shock.
Xin couldn''t help but break into a smile as he stood before her. "Yes, it''s me, Meilyn."
"Y-you . . ." Meilyn''s eyes shook with tears. "You woke up?"
The world around them seemed to fade away as they locked eyes.
Meilyn''s friends watched in curiosity, their gazes shifting between the two, but Xin and Meilyn were lost in their own world, momentarily oblivious to everything else.
"It really is you . . . ," Meilyn whispered, her voice barely audible. A mixture of relief and happiness washed over her.
Xin nodded. "Yes. It''s me."

"It''s four in the afternoon. Should we go to the karaoke first?" Scarlet asked. Her fiery red long hair exuded a captivating aura wherever she went. Her strong personality matched her vibrant appearance, as she possessed a fierce determination, an unwavering confidence, and a sharp tongue to match.
"Karaoke?" Xiaxia rolled her eyes. "Does anyone do that nowadays now that Guildbane is the new trend?"
Mariaughed. Her adorable short ck hair bounced as she did. "It looks like that everyone just wanted to y the game."
Maria had a sweet voice and innocent charm. Her meek and gentle personality made her incredibly approachable and easy to talk to. Her soft-spoken nature and gentle smile were enough to put anyone at ease.
The two of them had been Xiaxia''s longtime friends since they were in high school.
Maria looked over at the sky and muttered, "Besides, it''s going to rain."
Scarlet let out a groan of boredom, expressing her desire to do something else. "Can we do other things than ying that game?"
Marry pondered for a moment, her eyes scanning the sky as she thought of alternative activities. "Maybe we can work on our projects?" she suggested.
Scarlet''s shoulders slumped at the suggestion, clearly not enthused by the idea. "That sounds even worse," shemented.
Meanwhile, Xiaxia''s attention was drawn to a familiar figure in the distance. Her eyes widened with surprise and recognition ¨C¨C It was Xin, her brother, with his distinctive white hair, standing out even from a distance.
Xiaxia couldn''t help but feel a rush of excitement and anticipation.
Was Xin here to pick her up from school?
As they approached the school gate, Xiaxia wrestled with her thoughts, uncertain of how to react.
She wanted to ask Xin what he was doing there, but she didn''t want to sound distant or appear too happy about seeing him. Her inner thoughts swirled with conflicting emotions.
''What are you doing here?'' Xiaxia silently questioned herself, finding the interrogation too distant.
''Are you here to pick me up?'' she contemted, grumbling inwardly as it sounded like she was overly delighted at the idea.
Just as Xiaxia was trying to decide on her approach, her ns were interrupted when she witnessed Xin abruptly running in a different direction. To her surprise, he was chasing after Meilyn!
Xiaxia stood there in shock, her mind racing to make sense of the unexpected turn of events.
It finally dawned on her that Meilyn was also a student at Fate Academy. She realized that it wasn''t her that Xin was waiting for; it was Meilyn all along!
Frustration and annoyance welled up inside Xiaxia, causing her teeth to grit in frustration.
"Xiaxia, are you okay?" Scarlet called out, concerned for her friend.
Ignoring Scarlet''s question, Xiaxia quickly replied, "Sorry! I just remembered that I have somewhere else to go!" She swiftly made her way toward Xin and Meilyn, determined to catch up to them.
"Xiaxia!" Scarlet and Maria could only exchange confused nces at each other when Xiaxia zoomed away without looking back.
While Xin and Meilyn were engrossed in their conversation, Xiaxia trailed behind with a mixture of worry and anger etched on her face.
Biting her thumb in frustration, she watched as Xin smiled and talked with Meilyn, radiating happiness like a fool in love.
"Stupid brother," Xiaxia muttered under her breath, her irritation evident. "What''s so good about that girl? Mom and I were the ones by your side every day during youra."
Her anger red, and Xiaxia kicked a nearby metal pole in her frustration. Instantly, regret washed over her as the pain shot through her foot, spreading throughout her body.
"Ouch!" she eximed, quickly covering her mouth and seeking refuge behind a trash bin, fearing that Xin might have noticed her presence. She held her breath, relieved when Xin and Meilyn continued their walk without turning back.
Despite his lethargic expression, Xin could really be perceptive if he wanted to. But Xiaxia guessed that he was too engrossed with Meilyn that he didn''t notice her.
Stupid Xin! Idiot! Stupid! Stupid! What''s so good about her other than her enormous breasts?!
Xiaxia cursed as she cautiously followed them. Her eyes burned with anger and frustration.
When the pair entered a caf¨¦, Xiaxia discreetly entered as well, carefully choosing a table that allowed her to remain hidden while still enabling her to listen in on their conversation.
Chapter 22: Shattered Dreams
Chapter 22: Shattered Dreams ? ? ? ?
"I''m taking medicine at Fate Academy. You know that I always wanted to take care of my parents when they got old, right? And I don''t have any special skills or hobby that would excel me from the rest. It''s kind of hard, but I''m managing somehow. I''m in my third year right now, and I''ve been training in the hospital."
As Meilyn spoke, her voice was gentle and soothing, her words carrying a hint of vulnerability. Xin found himself captivated by her soft smile and her melting dark eyes, which radiated warmth and kindness. Her long ck hair framed her face, adding to her cute appearance.
Xin''s attention was drawn to the adorable gestures of her hands, their delicate movements as her fingers tapped against each other. asionally, she would brush a strand of her hair behind her ears ¨C¨C she often did it when she was ufortable.
She must be caught off guard at his sudden appearance.
"It must be hard," Xin finally said. He was always short with his words even before, and that didn''t change even after four years.
Meilyn nodded, her gaze shifting to her fingers on herp. "It is, but . . . I''m managing." She offered a small smile.
The silence between them grew, each moment filled with unspoken thoughts and emotions.
And then, almost as if they were synchronized, both Xin and Meilyn spoke at the same time, their voices ovepping in the air.
"Actually, I have something to say."
The both of them stopped and then said at the same time, "You first."
". . ."
The two paused and then broke into a smile.
Meilyn couldn''t help but giggle, her eyes shining with amusement. "You first, Xin."
Xin shook his head, a yful glint in his eyes. "No,dies first."
Meilyn opened her mouth to respond, but her words trailed off as she noticed something outside the caf¨¦ window. Her gaze shifted, and Xin followed her line of sight.
There, parked just outside, was a brand-new ck car, a sleek and stunning Bugatti. Its impable design caught the attention of everyone nearby.
But the owner didn''t get off.
"Xin."
Meilyn''s serious voice caught Xin''s attention, causing his heart to skip a beat. As he looked into her eyes, he could see the absence of her usual smile and the weight of seriousness on her face. His heart constricted, sensing that something significant was about to be revealed.
"I-I''m sorry, Xin," Meilyn choked out, her voice trembling with emotion. Tears welled up in her eyes as she continued, "I . . . I already have a boyfriend."
Xin''s world seemed to pause at that moment. The words echoed in his mind, drowning out the rest of Meilyn''s exnation. He felt a deep pang of sadness and disappointment, realizing that the girl he had held onto in his heart had moved on.
As Meilyn sobbed, her words tumbled out like a rushing waterfall, exining the pain and guilt she had carried during hisa. She confessed that she had med herself and had even sought therapy to cope with her emotions.
Her words filled the air, but Xin''s mind seemed distant, still fixated on the memory of Meilyn''s confession to him. The weight of her current rtionship pressed heavily on his heart, overshadowing everything else she was saying.
At that moment, Xin felt a mix of emotions ¨C¨C heartache, longing, and a sense of loss. The reality of their situation sank in, and the dream he had nurtured in his heart shattered into fragments.
''I have loved you since we were kids!''
''It''s alright if you don''t reciprocate my feelings. I''ll always be here for you forever!''
Xin''s face remained impassive as he lowered his gaze, his emotions hidden from Meilyn''s view. "I guess you didn''t really mean those words," he murmured softly.
Confusion flickered across Meilyn''s face as she halted in her tracks. "What do you mean?"
". . ." If she couldn''t honor her promise, then it was better if she didn''t confess in the first ce.
He shouldn''t have said yes out of pity and for fear of their long friendship being broken. He should have said ''no'' to her from the start.
Now that he had learned to love her like a woman and not just a friend, she chose to forget about him and move on. Worse, she even got together with another man.
What was he supposed to think and feel?
The sadness had slowly turned into anger and Xin knew he needed to stop in that line of thinking, or it would consume him.
He fell into silence, the weight of his thoughts and emotions bearing down on him. He shouldn''t hold her ountable for the choices she had made. After all, he was supposed to be dead. Four years had passed, a considerable amount of time for her to move on and forget.
Inwardly, Xin battled with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, he felt betrayed and hurt that she had chosen to be with someone else. On the other hand, he understood that he couldn''t expect her to wait indefinitely for his uncertain future.
He couldn''t me her for moving on and finding happiness.
It wasn''t her fault.
It was the circumstances that had separated them.
Xin''s heart ached, but he knew he had to ept the reality of their situation, and move on.
Xin maintained eye contact with Meilyn, forcing a smile to appear on his face. "It''s not your fault, so don''t worry about it," he reassured her.
What else was he supposed to say?
"The truth is . . . I wanted to see you because I''m worried that you would keep ming yourself for what happened. It wasn''t your fault. It was an ident." It was the truth, but he also wanted to reconnect with her.
But now that she had a boyfriend . . . that was no longer an option.
Meilyn''s eyes widened in surprise as tears streamed down her face, but she quickly wiped them away, recing her tears with a warm smile. "Thank you, Xin. I''m really d that we had this talk," she said, her voice filled with gratitude.
She extended her hand and said, "Though we couldn''t be lovers anymore, we could still be friends."
Chapter 23: Move On?
Chapter 23: Move On? ? ? ? ?
Xin stared at Meilyn''s hand, contemting the weight of her words and the new dynamics of their rtionship.
After a few moments of hesitation, he finally epted her hand, feeling a firm grip that contrasted with his ownck of strength.
The next thing he knew, Meilyn was saying goodbye, went outside in a hurry, and entered the Bugatti.
It must be her boyfriend. Xin thought.
The car went on its way, but Xin kept looking out the window.
It started to rain, but Xin''s gaze remained fixed on the window, oblivious to the raindrops cascading down the ss. The world outside seemed to blur as he immersed himself in his thoughts, unable to tear his attention away from the recent turn of events.
As if breaking through his reverie, Xiaxia''s voice pierced the silence, drawing his focus back to the present. She ced a te of snacks on the table before taking a seat across from him, her eyes filled with concern.
"His name is Alexander Craig," Xiaxia began, her tone carrying a mixture of resignation and bitterness. "Son of Gregory Craig, a wealthy figure in the real estate business.
"Alexander himself is the captain of Dragons'' Fury, one of the top one hundred guilds in the world. He''s earning millions through his involvement in the game."
"You should just give up and move on," Xiaxia remarked, her tone filled with frustration.
Xin''s expression remained stoic, his emotions concealed beneath a mask of calm. It didn''t escape him that Xiaxia knew about Meilyn''s boyfriend. They went to the same school, so she must have known. Was that why she was against him meeting her?
Despite Xiaxia''s words echoing in his mind, suggesting he should give up and move on, his heart felt heavy with the weight of disappointment and longing.
Four years have passed but to him, it just felt like yesterday.
What was he supposed to do with all his feelings now?
A hollowness had settled within him as if something vital had been carved out. The love that once filled him now felt empty and distant.
He didn''t want to move on . . .
He wanted something . . . something that would sate his anger and the void in his heart . . . something like . . . revenge.
"Xin."
Xin blinked and shifted his gaze toward his sister, Xiaxia.
"Are you okay?" Xiaxia asked, her brows furrowed with concern.
Xin''s eyes returned to the table, his mind preupied with thoughts and emotions. "Yeah," he replied in a subdued tone.
Noticing his distant demeanor, Xiaxia silently pushed a te of his favorite cake, carrot almond cake with chocte milk cream deluxe, towards him.
Xin couldn''t help but notice the gesture, but he couldn''t muster much of a response. Instead, he focused on a different matter.
"You''re going to pay for this, right?" Xin remarked, his tone casual.
Xiaxia''s eye twitched, taken aback by Xin''s nonchntment. "Out of all the things you should say, that''s what you''re concerned about?!" Xiaxia eximed, frustration evident in her voice.
She sighed when she realized Xin''sck of reaction. Taking a sip of her tea topose herself, Xiaxia replied, "And yes, it''s my treat."
Xin sliced a piece of cake and brought it to his mouth, savoring the familiar vors. He then casually posed a question to his sister.
"How long have you been following me?" he asked, his tone casual yet probing.
Xiaxia choked on her tea, causing her to forcefully m the cup onto the table. "F-following?! Me?! Following you?! Of course not!" she retorted, attempting to mask her surprise.
Xiaxia looked away and attempted to deceive Xin. "I was here in the first ce. You just didn''t notice me because you''re too hung up on that cow," she lied, her voice tinged with bitterness.
Under her breath, Xiaxia muttered, her eyes darting around to avoid meeting Xin''s gaze. "It''s not like I noticed you from school and followed you like a stalker and eavesdropped on your conversation, alright?"
". . . Haa . . ." Xin looked to the side. So that''s what happened.
Seeing the turmoil hidden behind her brother''s cold fa?ade, Xiaxia understood that he was struggling with a whirlwind of emotions. Emotions he was desperately concealing.
"You should just forget about her," Xiaxia spoke, her voiceced with frustration, as she toyed with her blueberry cheesecake. "She has no redeeming qualities except for her oversized breasts."
As the thought of Meilyn''s figure entered Xiaxia''s mind, shepared it to her own smaller bust. In her frustration, she repeatedly smashed her fork against the cake on her te.
"What''s so good about her? She''s clumsy, easily scared, always crying over little things. Heck! She''s not even that smart. She pretends to be a lotus to attract boys, but she''s a man-eating carnivorous nt deep inside!"
Xiaxia''s passionate tirade only fueled Xin''s grief over his failed rtionship. His depression and anger began to spiral out of control.
"Let''s not talk about her anymore," Xin interjected and changed the topic. "Perfect timing. Now that you''re here, I have a lot of things to ask you."
Xiaxia blinked, posed herself, and took a sip of her tea. "Is it about Guildbane?"
Xin nodded.
Xiaxia''s face lit up with a mischievous grin, relishing the opportunity to showcase her knowledge and expertise. It was rare for Xin to ask for help ¨C¨C especially her help.
"Ehehehe. What is it, then? I have been ying for four years. I know a lot of things in the game," she revealed, unable to hide her delight.
Xin ignored Xiaxia''s smug face and was about to open his mouth when she spoke again.
"By the way, before we dive into that, what''s your race and ss in the game?" Xiaxia inquired.
"My race is beastfolk, and I don''t have a ss yet."
"Beastfolk?" Xiaxia''s eyes widened. "That''s unexpected! I thought you would go for something more conventional like an Elf or Sprite," she eximed.
"How so?"
Xiaxia smirked, enjoying the opportunity to tease her brother. "Ara . . . , I guess I forgot that you''re not exactly well-versed in these types of games," she taunted.
A vein popped on Xin''s head. "Just tell me."
Chapter 24: Race and Class
Chapter 24: Race and ss
Xiaxia giggled mischievously, enjoying the opportunity to show off her gaming knowledge. "Oh, let me tell you something interesting. Each race in the game has its own special ability called a racial trait. It''s like a unique skill that only members of that race can have."
Xin looked intrigued. "Really?"
Nodding eagerly, Xiaxia continued. "For example, if you chose to be an Elf, you would have gained the [Keen Eyes] racial trait. Elves are known for their exceptional vision, which makes them great hunters. Many yers choose Elves when they want to y as a ranger or a hunter ss.
"And as for the beastfolk race, they usually have racial traits that enhance their strength or agility, depending on the specific type of beast they are."
Xiaxia paused, her eyes widening with anticipation. "So, what sub-race did you choose?"
Without hesitation, Xin replied, "I chose to be a cat."
Xiaxia''s surprise was evident as her mouth dropped open. "A cat? Out of all the options, you went for a cat?!"
She burst intoughter, unable to contain her amusement. "You could have been a powerful wolf, a swift leopard, or even a fierce lycanthrope. But a cat? That''s unexpected!"
Xiaxia didn''t know whether tough or cry. But it was so Xin to choose something so unremarkable ¨C¨C like he had chosen Meilyn.
"But you like cats," Xin said.
"Yeah. But as a pet!" Xiaxia eximed.
Xin was unbothered. "So what are its racial traits?"
Xiaxia sighed when she looked at Xin''s impassive face. It made her think that she was the one overreacting.
"I don''t know."
". . ." Xin''s brow raised. "And you said that you have four years of gaming experience."
"It''s because it''s a cat!" Xiaxia growled. "It''s so unremarkable that nobody would bother to pick it!"
Xin looked to the side and uttered, ". . . Useless."
"What did you say?"
Xin ignored her and looked at his stat himself.
Xiaxia was curious and went to his side.
"Ha . . ." Xiaxia was surprised as she read. "[Righting Reflex]? What''s that?"
Xiaxia proceeded to read, "Cats have natural instinct and remarkable agility to twist their bodies mid-air during a fall, enabling them tond on their feet, minimizing the impact and potential injuries."
Xiaxia''s lower lip puckered out in dismay. "So unremarkable," shemented.
Xin didn''t mind and asked her, "What''s your race then?"
Xiaxia''s eyes squinted upward in glee. "Hohoho. Be amazed, for I acquired the very rare . . . ANGEL race!"
". . ."
Xiaxia''s smile fell when Xin''s face remained a statue.
"Aren''t you going to ask how I get it?"
"Is it that extraordinary?"
"Of course it is!" Xiaxia eximed and leaned over, the veins in her eyes popping as she exined with a passion, "Angels are a rare race that has the best healing abilities. Their unique racial trait [Celestial Nature] allowed them to boost healing spells up to 20%! They also have wings, so they have the passive [Fly]. They glowed a radiant light and are truly captivating. They''re so awesome that every guild is coveting one."
"So you''re a healer?"
Xiaxia abruptly paused and looked to the side. "No . . . ," she squeaked in a low voice.
"So you''re saying is . . . the Angel Race is wasted on you."
Xiaxia whacked Xin''s head, strong enough to make a point. "Who said? For your information, I''m an Angel Pdin! I have both magical and physical abilities, so I can do both support and offensive attacks depending on the situation. But not that a block of ice like you could understand."
"So, how did you acquire it if it''s a rare race?"
". . ." Xiaxia''s lips smacked together, and her eyes roamed anywhere except Xin''s. "Let''s just say that . . . I received it as a gift."
Xin stared at Xiaxia suspiciously. "Hmm . . ."
"A-anyway!" Xiaxia quickly changed the topic. "You''ll have a hard time looking for guilds with that race. But don''t worry, I have a guild, so you can¨C!"
"I don''t n on entering one," Xin said decisively.
Xiaxia''s excitement quickly turned into confusion as Xin firmly rejected the idea of joining a guild. She blinked, struggling to process his words, and her eyes widened in disbelief. "
Huh?! What do you mean you''re not entering one? You do know that Guildbane is a game that revolves around guilds, right? There are so many benefits and opportunities thate with being part of a guild. You''ll be missing out on a lot if you choose to go solo."
Xin''s expression remained unwavering. "I understand that, but I prefer to y the game on my own. I want to experience it at my own pace for now."
Xiaxia was concerned about Xin''s decision, but she knew better than to argue with him once he had made up his mind.
However, she believed that he would reconsider once he realized the limitations of going solo in the game.
Bringing up the topic of his ss, Xiaxia asked, "You still haven''t chosen one?"
Xin shook his head, expressing his confusion. He was overwhelmed by the many options avable in the ss list.
"I see. We''ll it could really get confusing at first. But . . ." Xiaxia ran her eyes at Xin and sighed. "A cat . . . why does it have to be a cat, for god sake."
"Do you have something against cats?"
"It''s not that. I just couldn''t find a ss that matches the cat race well. Cats are not strong enough to be fighters or barbarians, and they don''t have any intelligence boost to be mages. They alsock the agility-rted traits to be thieves or rogues."
"Shouldn''t you know which ss suits each race after ying the game for four years?"
"Cut me some ck. The developers are constantly adding new races and sses that it''s hard to keep track of each one of them."
Xin shifted his eyes to his drink and casually took a sip. "Then I guess I''ll remain ssless for now."
Until he knew what ss best suited him.
Chapter 25: EXP and ATP
Chapter 25: EXP and ATP ? ? ?
"I''m d that you''re seriously considering your ss, but don''t wait too much. It could potentially impact your overall stat," Xiaxia advised.
Xin was aware of it, so he didn''tment.
"By the way," Xin lowered his cup. "Does anyone have, like . . . infinite stats in the game?"
Xiaxia, absorbed in her meal, nced up at Xin in surprise. "Infinite stats? No, there''s no such thing," she replied dismissively, her attention quickly returning to her food.
Xin had suspected as much. "What about infinite CHA?"
Xiaxia''s fork paused midway to her mouth as she looked at Xin, confusion evident on her face. "Infinite Charisma? That''s not possible. Why are you asking about it?"
Xin hesitated for a moment, considering whether to share his newfound secret with Xiaxia.
Ultimately, he decided against it. If Infinite CHA wasn''t a thing in the game, then he must have stumbled upon a bug or an anomaly.
Knowing Xiaxia''s loose tongue, he couldn''t risk her inadvertently revealing his unique stat to others. For now, he wanted to keep it a secret until he could make good use of his infinite Charisma.
Xin returned Xiaxia''s gaze. "Never mind. It was just a random thought."
Xiaxia squinted her eyes, a hint of curiosity gleaming in them, but she refrained frommenting further.
Instead, she delved into an exnation, eager to share her knowledge with Xin. "CHA might seem unremarkable at first, and many yers tend to neglect to level it up. However, it''s actually very useful in the game," Xiaxia began, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
"Certain quests require a minimum CHA level to engage in dialogue with NPCs and progress through the storyline. Additionally, there are dungeons that have specific stat requirements, including CHA, to gain entry."
Xin absorbed the information, his interest piqued by the potential significance of CHA in the game.
He had assumed that his race and ss would dictate his stats upon leveling up, but Xiaxia''s exnation hinted at a different approach.
"Can you personally level up a specific stat?" Xin inquired, intrigued by the idea.
Xiaxia nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Ah, you probably don''t know this yet, but when you level up, aside from earning experience points (EXP), you also receive four Attribute Points (ATP) that you can allocate to the stat of your choice.
"One ATP adds five points to your HP and MP, while the rest of your stat assumes the ratio of one is to one," she exined.
Curious, Xin checked his character''s status screen and discovered the ATP Xiaxia was referring to. As a level 15 yer, he had umted 60 ATP.
It was a valuable resource he had noticed before and had intended to inquire about.
''So, these ATP points can be personally assigned to strengthen specific stats,'' Xin mused, his mind racing with possibilities.
He made a mental note to refrain from using his ATP until he obtained his ss, as it would allow him to make more informed decisions about where to distribute them.
Xiaxia''s tone turned serious as she ced her fork down and fixed her gaze on Xin. Concern etched across her face, she felt the need to emphasize an important point.
"I don''t have to tell you this, but it''s crucial that you avoid dying in the game, alright?" Xiaxia stated firmly.
Xin responded with a simple, "I know," but Xiaxia wasn''t convinced that he fully understood the consequences. She wanted to ensure he grasped the severity of the situation, so she cleared her throat and continued.
"Allow me to exin," Xiaxia began, her voice carrying a mix of authority and gloating satisfaction. "When you die, there is an EXP penalty that scales based on your level and the level of your opponent. The higher the level gap, the greater the EXP penalty. If the penalty reaches 100 EXP, you will regress one level, losing the apanying stat points. And if it reaches 200 EXP, then you will regress two levels, and so on."
Xin listened attentively, absorbing the information. He understood the consequences of dying and the importance of preserving his hard-earned experience points.
He had already read about these mechanics in his in-game [Library], gaining knowledge to navigate the world of Guildbane.
Xiaxia continued, "It''s also crucial to consider the rough calction for earning and losing EXP. As you already know, you need 200 EXP to reach Level 2, 300 EXP for Level 3, and so forth."
Nodding in acknowledgment, Xin affirmed this understanding. He had familiarized himself with the EXP requirements for leveling up during his research, aware that each subsequent level would demand more experience points.
Xiaxia sighed in relief, satisfied that Xin was aware of the risks involved in dying within the game. She hoped that he would take her words to heart and approach battles with caution and strategic thinking.
"To exin it further, if you''re LV.5 and you came across a LV.6 goblin, there''s a one-level difference between you. So if you are defeated, then you''ll automatically lose 100 EXP. But if you win, you''ll win 100 EXP.
"However, if you''re LV.5 and your opponent is lower level than you, like LV.4, for example, then you''ll only get like . . ." Xiaxiaputed in her head, but Xin already summed up the answer.
"It''s 100 ¨C 10%. If it''s a difference of 2 levels, then you''ll get 100 ¨C 20% of EXP. And the lowest EXP you get is five EXP if your opponent is below more than nine level against yours."
"R-right." Xiaxia coughed over her fist. "Looks like you already know that stuff."
Xin nodded and changed the topic. "I want to know about spell and skill slots."

Pleasement if there''s something wrong with the EXP and levels and if it would lead to future plot holes.
Chapter 26: Spell and Skill Slots
Chapter 26: Spell and Skill Slots ? ? ? ?
Xiaxia''s confidence had returned as she enthusiastically exined the mechanics of spell and skill slots to Xin. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she delved into the details.
"Though it may seem confusing at first, it''s actually quite straightforward," Xiaxia began. "Each ss has specific spell and skill slots that determines the number and level of spells and skills a character can use at each character level."
She gestured animatedly as she continued, "For instance, at your current level of five, you likely have two 1st-tier spell and skill slots as the default. However, as you progress and reach higher levels, additional slots will open up. For example, when you reach level 20, you''ll gain another 1st-tier slot as well as a 2nd-tier slot."
Xin nodded, following along with Xiaxia''s exnation. The concept of spell and skill slots tied to ss and level made sense to him, and he began to grasp the importance of acquiring higher-tier slots for more powerful spells and skills.
Xiaxia continued with her exnation, detailing the allocation of slots based on spell tiers. "Depending on your ss and level, you can acquire higher-tier slots. Currently, the default is ten slots for 1st-tier spells and skills, five slots for tiers two to five, three slots for tiers six to eight, and two slots for tier nine. However, it''s worth noting that these numbers could change as you progress in the game."
She paused for a moment, catching her breath and added, "There are also rare items that can open up additional slots, but they are incredibly rare and often quite expensive to obtain."
Xiaxia then used an analogy to help Xin understand the concept better. "Think of slots as a groove of a certain size. A 1st-level slot is small, while a higher-level slot isrger. Just as a 1st-tier spell can fit into any slot, a 9th-tier spell can only fit into a 9th-level slot. It''s all about matching the appropriate level of spells or skills to the corresponding slots. Got it?"
Instead of answering, Xin said, "So spells and skill are limited to how many slots and higher level slots you have?"
Xiaxia nodded. "When a spell caster casts a spell using a slot that is of a higher level than the spell, the spell assumes the higher level for that casting. When you put [Fire] in a level 1 slot, you cast like a fireball. But if you ced it on a level 2 slot, then that [Fire] will turn into [me]."
"I see." It got more interesting as Xin listened more. "So you can interchange your spells and skills in these slots as long as they fit."
Xiaxia nodded in affirmation. "Precisely! You can interchange your spells and skills in these slots, allowing for versatility and customization. It adds uniqueness to your character and opens up more possibilities within the game. You have the freedom to experiment and adapt your skills to better suit your needs."
"However," Xiaxia interjected, her tone turning slightly cautionary, "it''s worth noting that certain spells and skills have restrictions. They can only be ced in specific slots and may not be able to move up to higher-tier slots. For instance, a simple spell like [Fire] can only be ced in the highest Tier 2 slot."
"Got it," Xin said.
"It might be confusing at first," Xiaxia remarked, her voice filled with encouragement, "but you can experiment with your skills and spells to get the hang of it."
"There''s nothing confusing about it," Xin stated matter-of-factly. "I just need to ce whatever skill and spell I have into the higher tier slots and see if it works. The higher level the better, right."
Xiaxia grumbled under her breath, acknowledging Xin''s simplified perspective. "I suppose that''s another way to put it," she begrudgingly conceded.
She then quickly regained her usual energetic self and eximed, "Now that''s settled, let''s add each other as friends!"
Xiaxia took out her phone and asked, "What''s your ount number?"
Xin felt drained of energy, as if Xiaxia had absorbed it all, leaving him feeling tired and sleepy. Reluctantly, he shared his ID with her.
When Xiaxia saw his gaming name, she furrowed her brows. "Lord Schrodinger? No wonder you chose a cat. Did you base your character on our previous pet?"
Xiaxia didn''t know how to react, torn betweenughter and tears.
Xin shrugged, seemingly unfazed. "What''s the problem with that? You liked Lord Schrodinger."
Xiaxia blushed and stumbled over her words. "Y-yes, I did."
As Xiaxia thought about it, she realized that she was the one who took care of Lord Schrodinger, feeding, bathing, and grooming him. But despite her efforts, the cat always seemed to prefer Xin''spany, leaving her feeling ignored.
Animals always gravitated towards Xin while giving her judgmental stares, which only fueled Xiaxia''s frustration.
This somehow angered her for reasons she couldn''t exin.
"Since you''re here, help me buy a headgear," Xin said, getting up from his seat.
The rain had subsided, and the day was gradually fading into night.
Xiaxia bounced on her toes, her curiosity piqued. "Wait, don''t tell me you''ve already converted your in-game currency to real cash?"
Xin nodded in confirmation.
However, Xiaxia remained skeptical. "How did that happen? Even if you were foraging nonstop for two hours, you''d only earn about ten or twenty dors at most."
Suddenly, a realization dawned on Xiaxia, causing her to gasp. "Did you find a rare item?"
"Something like that," Xin replied, keeping his answer vague.
Xiaxia eagerly hopped to Xin''s side, bombarding him with questions. "What''s the item? How much did you get it for? Tell me, tell me!"
Xin chose to ignore her and simply replied, "It''s a secret."
Xiaxia pouted in disappointment but refrained from asking further. Instead, she grabbed hold of Xin''s arm, walking alongside him as his hand remained tucked inside his pocket.
Chapter 27: The Headgear
Chapter 27: The Headgear ? ?
As Xin and Xiaxia strolled through the bustling mall, they entered a store showcasing various gaming headgear.
Xiaxia initiated the conversation, inquiring about Xin''s desired headgear.
"So, what kind of headgear are you looking for?" Xiaxia asked curiously.
Xin pondered for a moment before responding, his eyes fixed on the array of headgear options. "Something that would allow me to y the game nonstop."
Xiaxia burst intoughter, finding Xin''s request amusing. "Oh, there''s no such thing, my dear brother," she chuckled. "You can y for long hours while charging the gear, but the system will still log you out for safety reasons. It detects when you need rest, bathroom breaks, or food."
"Is that so?" Xinmented, absorbing the information while examining the headgear on disy. There were various designs, shapes, colors, and sizes, each with its own price range based on functionality and aesthetics.
Curiosity piqued, Xin turned to Xiaxia and asked, "What kind of headgear did you get?"
Xiaxia beamed with pride, her excitement evident. "Since Guildbane is my main source of ie, I invested in high-quality gear," she dered and ced a sleek, white headgear with streaks of ck into Xin''s hand.
"This is the fourth-generation headgear," Xiaxia exined. "This headgear allows users to y Guildbane for extended periods by enabling gamey while the device is being charged.
"This thing also incorporated ergonomic design elements, providing afortable fit for long gaming sessions. It minimized strain on the wearer''s head and ensured a snug yet non-restrictive fit."
"Uhm . . ." Xin wanted to interrupt, but there was no chance of stopping his sister once she started talking.
Xiaxia continued despite Xin''sck of interest. "The headgear featured an integrated high-definition disy that enhanced the visual quality of Guildbane. Vivid colors, sharp details, and enhanced contrast levels brought the virtual world to life, allowing yers to fully appreciate the game''s graphics.
"The headgear also had a built-in microphone and voicemand functionality. yers could use voicemands to perform various in-game actions and adjustable interfaces.
"Andstly, headgear featured customizable interface options, enabling yers to personalize their in-game HUD (Heads-Up Disy). Users could modify the cement, size, and visibility of various game elements, tailoring the interface to their preferences for optimal gamey."
Xin ignored Xiaxia and examined the headgear, taking in its sleek appearance, like a futuristic helmet ¨C¨C only bigger.
Xin admired the headgear''s color and design, but when he saw the price, his eyes twitched. "Ten thousand dors? Is this made of gold?"
Xiaxia chuckled. "You should see the customized ones that professional yers and top guilds use. They cost hundreds of thousands."
"Maybe that''s why they''re at the top," Xin joked with a straight face. Those headgears better have extra functions for that enormous price.
Xiaxia stifled augh. "Maybe."
She then looked at Xin meaningfully. "If you can''t afford ten thousand dors, you can always ask me to pay for the gear."
She didn''t have that kind of amount with her, but she could always pay in installments with her card. If he would ask, she would be willing to pay for it.
However, without a word, Xin went to the counter and paid for his headgear with cash, leaving Xiaxia dumbfounded.
Xiaxia zoomed in on Xin and eximed, "You! What item did you sell to have that much money?"
She had expected him to go for a cheaper headgear, maybe around five hundred dors, which would provide a few hours of gamey.
However, she never imagined he would actually buy thetest headgear with his own money.
Xin nced at her and simply said, "It''s a secret."
=======
Later that night, while they were eating the takeout food, Evelyn brought up the idea of Xiaxia studying with Xin to prepare him for his uing advancement exam at Fate Academy.
"Egh, you''re going to Fate Academy?" Xiaxia protested immediately. She didn''t mind studying with Xin in the same school, but Meilyn was also there.
Xiaxia wanted Xin to move on from Meilyn, so she didn''t want him to be near her. The reason why he wanted to attend the same school was probably because of Meilyn. The thought of him still chasing after the woman frustrated and angered her.
On the other hand, Xin misunderstood Xiaxia''s hostility, thinking that she didn''t want the school to discover their sibling rtionship.
It must be embarrassing for her if people knew that she had a brother who had been in aa for four years because of something stupid like slipping off a stair.
"Don''t worry. I won''t reveal that I''m your brother if that''s what''s bothering you," Xin assured Xiaxia.
"What did you say?" Xiaxia''s anger intensified. Was Xin embarrassed by her? Was that why he didn''t want to tell everyone that they were siblings?
She get that she could be stupid at times, but that wasn''t a reason to shut her off.
Xin stared at her sister, didn''t know why she was so hot-blooded. Was there something he said? He was already doing her a favor by not getting involved in her life at school ¨C¨C just like what she wanted before.
Evelyn intervened, putting an end to their argument. She looked at them sternly and said seriously, "Xin, you will study for the exam, and you, Xiaxia, will help him study and guide him in navigating the school this Monday. And that''s final."
Both Xiaxia and Xin could only nod in response.
However, in reality, they were too engrossed in ying the game to focus on their academic responsibilities.

No update on Sundays. It''s my rest day ??
Chapter 28: First Encounter with a Player
Chapter 28: First Encounter with a yer
Xin didn''t want to stay idly at home since it made him think of unhappy thoughts ¨C¨C mostly about Meilyn.
He needed to upy himself with a lot of things to take off his mind from reality.
Guildbane offered such escapism, and its timing couldn''t be any more perfect.
Xin logged back into the game, realizing that he didn''t have a weapon. It dawned on him that he had been wandering the dangerous shores without any means of defense.
It wasn''t a necessity before since Triton mostly killed the beasts around even before they could attack him.
However, Xin knew he couldn''t rely on Triton indefinitely, so he made the decision to purchase both a staff and a sword, unsure of which would be more suitable since he hadn''t chosen a ss yet.
Additionally, he acquired a simple [Fire] spell to add to his arsenal. He put it on his 1-tier slot since it was the only slot opened right now with his level.
Also, he took note that he only had two avable 1-tier slots open in each skill and spell.
With his preparationsplete, Lord Schrodinger ventured out of town.
The second thing he did was to forage outside of town and began his quest of dominating the NPCs and acquiring their rare items. He decided to start with the NPCs on the shore and gradually make his way toward the town, ensuring that he wouldn''t miss anyone.
Though it would take some time, Lord Schrodinger was determined to get it done. If he set his mind on something, he would achieve it no matter what it took.
He wasn''t in a rush anyway.
What mattered most to him at the moment was collecting rare items and earning enough money to free them from debt. Xin understood the dangers of debt and how it could spiral out of control with umting interest, eventually bing unmanageable.
Xin didn''t dream of bing insanely wealthy. He just wanted their old life back, a simple life inside their modest home, where they could enjoy three meals a day and afford everything they needed to livefortably.
However, when Xin returned to the same spot where he had previously found rare herbs, he discovered that they were not there. He tried again, but only the usual notification appeared on his screen, indicating a time dy before he could forage the spot again.
[164: 57: 40 Time remaining before you could forage this spot]
That''s odd.
Xin consulted his [Library] and confirmed that rare materials had a minimum respawn time of one week, depending on their rarity.
". . ." Great.
Xin shrugged. Oh, well. No use in dwelling on it. If he couldn''t forage on the same spot, then he would go to another spot and try his luck.
Xin did just that and went to the area that he hadn''t foraged before while maxing his [Rtionship Level] with every NPC he came by.
He even noticed Triton but decided not to interrupt the busy trainer and the neers who were seeking guidance from him.
Xin guessed that the ind didn''t run out of newbies like him everyday. The shore was popted with other yers engaged in various activities, such as foraging and grinding.
Xin went about his own business, immersed in his tasks when he suddenly heard a screaming from nearby.
Intrigued, he turned his gaze toward the source of themotion and was surprised to see a young woman with long pink hair. She had fair, white skin and a small, charming face. She was donned in a red robe; her eyes were zing red, as well, as she shouted at him with her piercing voice.
"Hey! You! Yes, you! Help me!"
Xin nced behind the woman and spotted a Level 10 Giant Vulture attacking her. Although she was Level 11, she seemed unable to defeat the creature, and her health points were diminishing with each [w] attacking from above.
Observing her attire and casting motions, Xin deduced that she was a mage and likely had low Constitution (CONS).
"Help me!" Skrk pleaded desperately, her eyes welling up with tears.
Typically, a man woulde to the aid of a damsel in distress, especially a beautiful one. However, Xin opted not to get involved in the battle. Instead, he moved to the other side, allowing thedy to pass unobstructed.
Skrk was appalled by the turn of events. The man refused to help her, even with her pleading expression. As a Level 15 yer, he should havee to her aid. Didn''t he recognize her? She had made sure her in-game appearance matched her real-life face, so everyone would know who she was.
Filled with anger and frustration for brushing her off, Skrk pursued him, pletely forgetting about the Giant Vulture chasing her.
On the other hand, Xin was perplexed as to why the woman was still after him. He couldn''t understand her motives for chasing him.
"Why are you running away?! Why won''t you help me?" Skrk shouted in frustration.
"Can you ask for help from another yer?" Why does it have to be him?
Xin sighed, growing irritated with the persistent girl. Her presence was interfering with his foraging and NPC domination.
The more he denied her, the more she became more determined to make him yield to her demands.
"I said . . ." Skrk raised her staff, which began to emit a red glow. "SAVE ME, YOU IDIOT!" a fireball burst forth from her staff and went directly at Xin.
Swiftly dodging the attack with a well-timed sidestep, Xin managed to avoid the fireball. But there were still more iing.
Xin couldn''t understand why she was wasting her mana on attacking him instead of using it against the Vulture. He pondered her motives, puzzled by her relentless pursuit.
In the newbie inds, yer-versus-yerbat was still disabled, meaning she couldn''t harm him or steal his belongings. So Xin couldn''t understand why she was singling him out when she wouldn''t gain anything from it.
Nheless, her actions were starting to annoy him.
Xin skidded to a stop and faced the woman.
Skrk was taken aback by the sudden stop, and as it seemed like she was about to collide into his arms, Xin swiftly sidestepped, causing her to fall and end up face-first in the dirt.
Chapter 29: A Streamer?
Chapter 29: A Streamer? ? ? ?
Xin directed a simple fire spell toward the Vulture, but it only caused a mere 80% reduction in its health. Thebination of his weak spell and weapon was not enough to defeat the creature in one shot.
The Vulture screeched and lunged at Xin with its sharp ws.
Uncertain of how to engage in physicalbat, Xin had no other option but to rely on his sword. With the fire spell still on cooldown, he bravely faced the iing attack and swiftly thrust his sword into the creature''s head.
When the Vulture''s ws struck Xin''s arm, he felt a slight decrease in his health points. However, he swiftly finished off the Giant Vulture with his sword, causing it to disintegrate into particles.
Xin defeated the Giant Vulture and received some EXP, gil, andmon items as rewards. But, his encounter with Skrk, the angry woman from before, continued.
Facing her wrath, Xin saw her name above her health bar and learned it was Skrk.
Skrk approached him, pointing angrily, and med him for not saving her earlier. Xin couldn''t understand why it was his responsibility.
"You could have helped me earlier!" Skrk used, her voice filled with frustration. "You let that Vulture chase me and waste my mana! And I fell into the dirt because of you!"
Xin remained calm and replied, "If you can''t handle a foe, its better not to engage it. It''smon knowledge."
Skrk''s face turned red with anger and embarrassment, and she addressed Xin, her eyes briefly pausing on his peculiar name, Lord Schrodinger.
"I''m not an idiot to engage a Giant Vulture!" she retorted. "They roam the skies and attack anyone in sight. I just happened to be passing by when that angry bird chased me out of nowhere."
Xin was still confused about why she was exining herself to him. "Then . . . I will go now," he said, wanting to focus on his own tasks.
Skrk grabbed his clothes, causing him to stop. He turned back, appearing calm but sounding annoyed. "What is it?" he asked.
Skrk seemed baffled as she let go of him. "You . . . you really don''t know me?"
"Should I?" Xin replied.
"Of course, you should!" she eximed. "Any sane, healthy young man should know me, Sky! Unless, of course, you''re a woman hiding in a male''s avatar, then I understand the indifference."
Xin remained silent, not quite sure how to respond to her assumption about his sanity.
"Wait. Maybe this will refresh your memory." Skrk took a step back and struck a pose as if in front of a camera. "Hello! Hello! Uwu! This is your gaming girl, Sky from Zone D!" She made a peace sign over her twinkling eyes, winked, and stuck out her tongue to finish her whole pose.
It was so cringe that Xin had to leave the scene.
"Huuraahh!" Skrk shouted and quickly went after him, blocking his path. "This is the part where you should say that you remember me! I''m a very popr streamer, you know!"
"Is that so?" Xin replied with little interest.
Skrk stared at Lord Schrodinger''s unbothered face, feeling her energy deplete under his uninterested gaze. "You really don''t know me? That can''t be . . . is my end truly near? "I deleted my old ount and made a new one to gain more views, but . . ."
She fell on all fours on the ground. "Is four million views all I could gather?"
Four million? Xin''s lethargic eyes slightly bulged. He didn''t know much about streaming, but he knew that having that many views would make someone popr online.
Skrk must have started streaming while he was in aa, so he didn''t know her. He wasn''t into watching streamers, but he asionally saw them in ads and billboards, so he knew the popr ones, even if he didn''t want to.
"Isn''t four million views already a lot?" Xinmented.
"Of course not!" Skrk replied with bloodshot eyes. "In the past, I could gain fifty million views! But now, my views are dwindling each day."
She sighed and looked dejected to the side. "Maybe because I''m getting old. I''m turning twenty, and viewers like fresh faces."
"You''re still young," Xin tried to console her.
Skrk slowly stood up, looking like an aging woman. "I''m already in the middle of my lifespan."
Xin wanted to point out that a human''s middle lifespan was around forty, but he kept quiet.
However, Skrk''s depressed expression suddenly turned into a bright smile. Her mood changed at a snap of a finger.
"This is just my third day here. The camera features are still blocked on this newbie ind," she muttered enthusiastically.
"The four million views is only about the topic of me deleting my ount. Once I leave this newbie ind and go into the world of Eternia to stream my new race and ss, I''ll gain even more views!"
Xin didn''t quite understand what she was talking about, so he decided to leave.
"Hey, wait!" Skrk blocked Lord Schrodinger''s path again and put on a flustered expression, plete with teary eyes that avoided his gaze. No man could surely resist this gesture of hers. "Do you want to . . . partner up?"
"No," Xin replied without hesitation.
Skrk was caught off guard by Lord Schrodinger''s quick and straightforward response.
"Huh?! Why? It''d be easier to grind if there were two of us. Look around you. You''d rarely see solo yers. What''s more, we could beat a group of beasts with the two of us working together and gain more EXP. It''s the quickest way to level up!" Skrk urged.
Lord Schrodinger''s level was 15, and in this newbie ind, yers who reached that level were sought after in a group.
She was lucky that she found him first. She didn''t see anyone around him, so she assumed that he was soloing.
Most yers, when they reached level 15 and above, chose to leave the ind. So these kinds of yers on the ind were few.
''He must have been on this ind for days now to get his level to fifteen,'' Skrk thought, though she hadn''t seen him around the ind. They must have missed each other. The ind was big, after all.
"Not interested," Xin replied and went back to his foraging spot while Skrk could only watch him go.
When Lord Schrodinger''s form disappeared from her sight, Skrk pouted and frowned. "What a strange guy."
She stretched her arms and let out a deep sigh. She then went back to town toplete more quests while she muttered to herself, "And what kind of name is Lord Schrodinger? Weirdo."
Chapter 30: The Items on Shore
Chapter 30: The Items on Shore ? ? ?
Xin continued foraging and interacting with NPCs throughout the day. By the time he finished exploring the shore, he felt aplished, having covered all the NPCs and foraging spots in the area.
He felt satisfied with his thorough efforts.
Xin examined his loot, and so far, he had obtained:
¡Î I T E M S ¡Î
? Aloe Vera Stalk x2 (Rare)
? Breath of Life Algae x2 (Very Rare)
? Butterfly Bush Bloom x4 (Rare)
? Maiden''s Call Bloom x1 (Very Rare)
? Adamantite Ingot x5 (Rare)
? Glory of the Sea Shell x1 (Wondrous, Rare)
? Coral Armor (Rare, requires Attunement), gifted by the NPC Coral
This multi-colored armor is made from corals and is abnormally heavy. While wearing this armor, gain CONS +100.
While wearing this abnormally thick, rock-like armor, your DEX is reduced by 10%.
¡ñ Requires STR +50 to equip.
? Amulet of Elemental Protection (Wondrous item, Rare, requires Attunement), gifted by the NPC Edra.
This raw crystal pendant is adorned with ancient protective runes. When equipped, the amulet offers a safeguard against elemental damage. The first time you encounter elemental harm, the amulet absorbs 50% of the damage, providing you with some protection.
However, after using this protective property, it cannot be activated again until the following day.
? Call of the Sea (Wondrous item, Very Rare, requires Attunement), gifted by the NPC Lara
This ne is adorned with shiny pebbles and seashells. When you wear it, you gain the ability to transform into a merfolk or revert to your original form.
While in a merfolk form, you take on the statistics of a merfolk, except for your hit points, alignment, personality, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma, which remain the same as your original form.
The first time you transform, you can choose the appearance of your merfolk form, as long as it doesn''t change the merfolk''s base statistics.
However, each subsequent use of the ne will transform you in the same way.
Once you use this transformation, you cannot use it again until the following day.
? Shell of Oceanic Power (Wondrous item, Very Rare, requires Attunement), gifted by Ariel
This spiraled seashell is connected to the Elemental ne of Water, and when you listen closely, you can hear the soothing sounds of the ocean within.
The shell can be used once per day.
As an action, while holding the shell, you can unleash the power of [Aqua Torrent], a water-based spell.
Aqua Torrent:
Spell Type: Water Maniption
Tier: 4
Description:
This powerful spell summons a torrent of water from the surroundings, creating a rushing and turbulent stream that can be directed toward enemies or used for various purposes.
The water can be controlled by the caster to form devastating waves, whirlpools, or directed sts, depending on their intent.
Aqua Torrent can inflict significant damage, knock opponents off bnce, or be utilized for defensive purposes by creating a wall of water to block attacks.
¡Î E N D ¡Î
Xin could use the [Shell of Oceanic Powers] though only once per day, so he should really be careful about where to use it.
While he wasn''t fully familiar with the power levels of different spell tiers, he knew that higher tiers were generally more potent.
However, he wasn''t aware of the extent of the power gap between each tier, so he had to test that out when he got the chance.
The [Shell of Oceanic Powers] should be powerful enough since it was a tier-4 spell.
It should be. Considering how troublesome he acquired it from Ariel. The mermaid was so forceful, even attempting to drown him in the sea so she could take him as her groom.
When that didn''t work, she tried to hypnotize him with her song. Fortunately, it had no effect on him because his charisma (CHA) was much stronger than hers.
After her ns failed, Ariel resorted to crying and begging, which gave Xin a chance to escape from her.
Xin decided never to return to that spot by the shore again.
This upgrading of [Rtionship Level] had its own dangers.
Looking at his items again, Xin noticed that most of them required some kind of [Attunement], a process he didn''t fully understand. To learn more, he began reading about it in his [Library].
¡Î Attunement ¡Î
Some magic items need a creature to form a bond with them before their magical powers can be used; this bond is called Attunement.
If a creature isn''t attuned to an item that requires Attunement, they only get its regr, non-magical benefits unless the item''s description says otherwise.
An item can only be attuned to by one creature at a time, and a creature can''t be attuned to more than three magic items simultaneously. Trying to attune to a fourth item won''t work; the creature must end Attunement to another item first.
Also, a creature can''t attune to more than one copy of the same item, like two rings of protection.
A creature''s Attunement to an item ends if they no longer meet the requirements for Attunement, if the item has been more than 10 meters away for at least 24 hours, if the creature dies, or if another creature attunes to the item.
A creature can voluntarily end Attunement by spending a short rest focused on the item unless the item is cursed.
¡Î E N D ¡Î
It soundedplicated, but Xin got the whole idea.
In short, he could only equip up to three items with Attunement. This would be a problem since most of the rare and legendary equipment required Attunement.
Xin had also collected various potions, materials like leather, essences, and rocks, all of which were valuable items.
Unfortunately, he couldn''t use the armor he found, which made him really want an equipment upgrade.
Despite that, Xin remained calm. There were still plenty of NPCs in town ¨C¨C like a treasure trove waiting to be explored.
As he was about to continue interacting with the NPCs, a system warning appeared.
[We detected that you need sleep. You will be logged out at 00:04:59]
Xin sighed, realizing it was time to take a break from the game and rest.
======================
The DEVELOPERs Distress
======================
In another dimension far away, a group of frustrated game developers gathered to discuss a growing problem.
"Augh . . . he noticed it. He really noticed it," one of them said, clearly distressed.
"He''s not as clueless as we hoped," another chimed in.
"Of course, he would notice it! It was only a matter of time!" someone added.
The group was worried because Lord Schrodinger was acquiring all the rare items in the game using his unique gift to befriend NPCs.
They wondered if there was a way to stop him.
"What should we do now? At this rate, he''ll gather all the rare items!" one of them eximed.
"Can''t we do something about this?" another asked. "Like reprogram the NPCs?"
"Reprogram the NPCs? Impossible! Only the head developer has ess to their interface," someone exined.
"Then maybe we can erase or limit the rare gift feature for future NPCs," another suggested.
After considering their options, they realized that any drastic change to the game''s mechanics would upset yers and undermine the appeal of befriending NPCs.
"If only LUMINA could erase his ount," one of them mumbled, frustrated.
"WE KNOW ALREADY!" they cried out in unison, feeling helpless to prevent Lord Schrodinger''s unstoppable progress in the game.
Chapter 31: The Public Bath
Chapter 31: The Public Bath ? ? ?
After returning home, Xin attempted to log back into the game, but the system kept logging him out, insisting that he needed sleep.
"Looks like we can''t cheat the system," Xin sighed.
He was impressed by how urately the system detected his need for rest. Within a minute of closing his eyes, he fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Xin and Xiaxia were met with their usual early morning chores. Their mother had prepared breakfast before leaving for a Saturday meeting with her boss.
''Michael Fey must be working overtime,'' Xin thought.
"Hoi," Xiaxia called, pushing the broom into Xin''s hands. "Go clean the house while I do theundry. Let''s split up the chores and finish quickly, so we can y the game."
Though she said that, they ended up spending the entire morning finishing the chores. By the time they were done, Xin was feeling tired and wanted to rest.
Xin asked Xiaxia, "Is there a headgear that operates while you''re asleep?"
"They''re still developing it if my information is correct," Xiaxia replied, wiping her sweat. "God. This ce is so hot! Times like this that I miss our old house."
"I badly needed an AC!" she eximed passionately and sighed. "I''m going to take a bath. You finish the rest."
She then locked herself inside the bathroom.
After finishing the house chores, Xin felt sweaty and covered in dust. He desperately needed a bath, but there was only one bathroom in the house, and he knew Xiaxia took forever in there.
Xin didn''t know what rituals Xiaxia performed in the bathroom, but he wasn''t going to wait around. He decided to go to a nearby public bath instead.
He knew there were hot springs near Zone A, thanks to the living volcano, making it a popr destination for holidays.
After leaving a note for Xiaxia, incased she got off the shower and found him gone, he gathered his things and headed out.
Checking the map on his phone, he found the nearest public bath was more than a hundred meters away from their building. Determined to get some rxation, he set off on his way.
Zone A area 50 and beyond was where the mass housing was located, so there were a lot of shops and stores that cater to this area''s needs.
As Xin walked by the road, he noticed that there were a lot of people, old and young, who were posing in front of cameras; most were dancing while some were engaged in talking to themselves.
Xin didn''t know what was going on, but the world suddenly changed. Everyone was acting strange, and he hastened his walk to his destination.
When he reached his location, and looked at the building that his phone had pointed at him. It said, Public Bathhouse.
The building stood nestled amidst a serenendscape, surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful gardens. It''s traditional Japanese architecture exuded an air of elegance and tranquility.
The exterior was adorned with wooden beams and panels, while a gently sloping roof covered in thatch tiles added to its charm.
Xin admired the ce. Though the area here was considered for poor people, it didn''t mean that the shops and buildings looked worn out and dpidated.
As Xin entered the building, he was greeted by the soft sound of flowing water from a man-made stream, enhancing the peaceful ambiance. The interior was tastefully decorated with natural materials, such as wooden furnishings and sliding doors adorned with delicate paper screens. Softnterns provided warm, soothing light, creating a cozy atmosphere.
The centerpiece of the bathhouse was the main bathing area. It featured argemunal bath made of smooth stones, bordered by decorative wooden columns. The water was kept at the perfect temperature, inviting guests to immerse themselves and soak away their worries.
Surrounding the bath were beautiful paintings and traditional art pieces depicting serenendscapes and calming scenes.
A small tea room was adjacent to the bathing area, offering guests a chance to enjoy tea and snacks while appreciating the beauty of the surroundings.
The scent of incense wafted through the air, adding to the sensory experience and contributing to the feeling of rxation and rejuvenation.
Outside, a serene garden awaited, with carefully manicured trees, decorative rocks, and a small koi pond. The gentle sound of trickling water from a nearby stone fountain added to the soothing ambiance.
Benches were ced strategically around the garden, providing spots for guests to sit and meditate in nature''s embrace.
Overall, the bathhouse was a tranquil oasis where visitors could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, immersing themselves in the age-old tradition of public bathhouse culture and finding sce in the natural beauty that surrounded them.
Everything was man-made, of course, with pipelines bringing the hot spring water from the mountain into the building. The steam created a slight fog, but the surroundings were still visible.
Xin went to the counter to register. He had the option to have his own private room with a hot spring for $100, but he chose the regr public bath for only $5.
All he wanted was to get rid of the dirt and dried sweat from his skin. No need for a private room for that.
After receiving the locker keys, he changed into his shorts and headed to the public bath.
It was busier than usual because of the weekend. Children sshed and yed in the shallow areas, giggling with joy. Older folks chatted and rxed in the hot springs, feeling the soothing warmth wash away their stress.
There were also some people wearing skimpy outfits, posing for pictures in a bold manner.
Minding his own business, Xin rxed and let the warm waters relieve his tired bones. His mind drifted away from all the worries for a moment.
He was confident that no one would recognize him here since most of his ssmates and friends were in Area 40 and above.
Until someone called his name, that is.
"Xin?"
Chapter 32: Catching Up
Chapter 32: Catching Up ? ? ?
"Xin?"
Xin was surprised to hear a familiar voice calling out his name.
Turning around, he saw a woman with shoulder length violet hair. She had a gentle aura surrounding her. Her warm, purple eyes were a little nted, and her fairplexion and petite figure gave her a soft and charming appearance. She had a sweet smile that could brighten anyone''s day.
"Yuzuro?" Xin was surprised to find her here. What was she doing in a ce like this?
Dressed in a kimono for staff, Xin almost didn''t recognize her.
"It really is you." Yuzuro''s face brightened. "You finally woke up?"
Xin nodded, didn''t know how to face her.
Yuzuro must have sensed that it wasn''t the right ce to chat, so she said, "Uhm . . . It''s actually the end of my shift after thirty minutes. Can we talk after that?"
When she spoke, her words were filled with empathy, making people feelfortable in her presence.
Xin nodded. "Okay."
Xin stood in the pool, silently observing Yuzuro''s figure as she walked away. He couldn''t help but feel puzzled by her unexpected appearance in this unfamiliar ce, so far away from their usual Area.
Yuzuro had been one of his ssmates back in high school, and he couldn''t help but wonder what had led her to end up in this distant location.
With Yuzuro''s sudden appearance, Xin''s state of rxation was disrupted. Realizing he needed to prepare for their uing meeting, he made the decision to get up and ready himself.
Mixed emotions flooded Xin''s mind as he contemted the encounter. On the one hand, he felt a sense of dness at finding a familiar face from the past, someone he could potentially reconnect with.
On the other hand, he couldn''t help but feel a twinge of embarrassment for seemingly being left behind while others moved forward with their lives.
Despite not being particrly close, Xin found sce in the fact that it was Yuzuro who had reentered his life. Her kind and honest nature had always made her a likable presence, someone who could effortlessly put others at ease.
After getting dressed, Xin waited patiently in the lobby, and soon enough, Yuzuro emerged wearing a hoodie and shorts, with a casual sling bag hanging over her shoulders. Her appearance, wrapped in loose clothing, gave her a cute and petite charm.
"Xin!" Yuzuro''s face lit up with a warm smile as she waved at him. "Sorry, did you wait long?"
"No, not at all. I just got here," Xin replied, wanted to return her smile, but his face was stuck.
"Great! Shall we go then?" Yuzuro suggested. "I know a nearby caf¨¦ where we can catch up."
The caf¨¦ Yuzuro mentioned was just a short five-minute walk from the bathhouse. It was a simple coffee and snack shop situated by the side of the road.
Once they settled in and ced their orders, Yuzuro began asking Xin about his life.
"When did you wake up? The whole ss was so shocked and surprised when we heard the news about you being in aa," Yuzuro inquired gently.
"Just a few weeks ago," Xin replied, trying to keep his emotions in check. "Waking up four yearster was quite a shock."
"I can only imagine. I''m sorry to hear that, Xin. It must have been really difficult for you," Yuzuro expressed with sincerity.
Xin remained silent, feeling a lump in his throat. Hearing someone express sympathy, apart from his family, gave him a sense offort he couldn''t exin. Yet, he disliked the feeling of being pitied.
"Don''t worry about it," Xin said, trying to sound strong. "I''m slowly putting my life back together. But let''s not talk about me anymore. There''s nothing significant that happened with me in the past four years since I was mostly asleep," he joked with a lethargic face. "What are you doing here?"
Yuzuro''s smile faded, and a sense of awkward tension settled between them.
"You don''t have to answer if you don''t want to," Xin offered.
"It''s okay. It''s just . . . a long story," Yuzuro replied, taking a deep breath and trying to force a smile. "But to keep it short, my father''spany went bankrupt, and . . . my father. . . he . . . he took his life, and my mother just . . . disappeared." Her voice choked with emotion.
Yuzuro forced a smile as she continued, "You know that it''s hard to find jobs in Area 40 and below without a college degree, right? So I moved here and started working in the bathhouse. There are also those debt collectors that chased after us, so we don''t have a choice but to move here." Herughter sounded strained, not reaching her eyes.
Xin was taken aback by her words, and even his paralyzed face showed signs of difficulty in finding the right response. He had thought he had it rough, but hearing Yuzuro''s struggles put things into perspective. He was still lucky to be alive and have his family with him.
"I''m sorry, Yuzuro. I didn''t know," Xin replied, sincerely concerned.
Yuzuro shook her head, maintaining her smile. "It''s hard, but I have to be strong for my little brother. I''m the only one he has right now."
"Don''t you have rtives?" Xin inquired.
Yuzuro''s smile turned sad as she twirled the straw in her juice. "No one would take us in because they''re afraid to be implicated with my father''s debt."
". . ."
When Xin didn''t reply, Yuzuro nced at him and noticed the seriousness on his face. It was unusual for him to show emotions, so she blushed andughed nervously.
"But don''t worry about me," Yuzuro said, trying to change the subject. "I''ve got the hang of my new life here, so I''m getting by. My brother is also studying in a high school in this area. Slowly but surely, we''re getting our life back. It''s not like before, but we''re getting by."
"I see," Xin replied, still unsure of what to say. He wasn''t good with words andforting others.
"By the way, what are you doing in this area?" Yuzuro asked, attempting to steer the conversation away from her own troubles.
"You could say that we are in debt right now because of me, so we don''t have a choice but to move here," Xin said straightforwardly.
"Oh." Yuzuro looked worried, but then she shook her head and beamed. "I think it''s enough of talking about depressive things."
Her face lit up suddenly. "You still know Rever, right?"
Rever? The image of a red-haired guy who always seemed ready for a fight, with numerous piercings in his ears, came to Xin''s mind.
"He''s also here," Yuzuro said. "Wait, let me call him."
Before Xin could say that it wasn''t necessary since Rever and he weren''t that close, Yuzuro was already on her phone, and within minutes, Rever appeared, rushing and panting.
"Whoa! It really is Xin!"

Chapter 33: Rever
Chapter 33: Rever ? ?
"Whoa! It really is Xin!"
Xin was surprised by Rever''s warm wee. He certainly didn''t expect it from the man who he barely interacted with in the past.
Rever was still that tall redhead with piercings who approached you like he was going to punch the shit out of you.
"Xin! Damn! You''re really awake!" Rever eximed, sitting down across from Xin with a big smile on his face. "I thought you''d never wake up. I even sent you flowers."
Rever was still the same straightforward guy Xin knew. He likes it that way, though. It felt more genuine.
"R-Rever," Yuzuro tried to reprimand him, but Xin was quick to interject her.
"It''s fine. I''m lucky that I even woke up."
Rever sighed and patted Xin''s back. "Yeah, I''m d you''re back too. But seriously, what are you doing here? When Yuzuro called, I thought she was joking. I even ditched my nightshift job just to get here."
Nightshift job? Xin was surprised since he remembered Revering from a wealthy family. What could have led him to work in this area?
"So what''s happened to you?" Rever asked.
Xin shared his story with Rever, exining what happened in his life like what he told Yuzuro.
"That''s rough, man. But hey, you''re still alive, and that''s something to be thankful for," Rever said.
Curious about Rever''s situation, Xin asked, "What about you? What are you doing here? Isn''t your family rich?"
Rever paused, and his smile seemed forced, not reaching his eyes. "Ah, about that. I didn''t get to finish high school. I got into a really bad fight, and the school kicked me out. Then my family kind of disowned me because of the embarrassment and shame I brought to them."
Xin was shocked that a family would prioritize reputation over their own son. "That''s . . ."
Xin didn''t know how to proceed with his sentence.
"Ahahahaha!" Reverughed heartily, revealing his canines. Xin noticed that he was actually quite charming when he wasn''t looking intimidating.
"Don''t look at me like that. I was d they disowned me! Now I can do whatever I want without their interference. I can get by on my own, thanks to my job and Guildbane."
"Guildbane?" Xin was surprised to learn that Rever was also ying the game.
"Yeah, you just woke up, so you might not have heard of it. It''s the new craze right now. Everyone''s ying it because there''s money involved. Heck, even our Yuzuro is ying it!" Rever exined with excitement.
Xin nced at Yuzuro, and she blushed while stuttering, "I-I''m not that good. I''m only doing it for the extra ie."
"We''re actually in the same guild, The Syndicate. It''s not in the top hundred, but it''s a pretty decent guild. My gamer''s name is Red Dragon, and I''m a Lycanthrope. Yuzuro here is named Hikari, and she is a Sprite Healer."
The Syndicate? Even the guild name sounded like a gangster. Xin mused.
"You should y too," Rever urged. "It''s a pretty solid game, and you can earn extra money from just ying a few hours."
"I am already ying the game," Xin said.
"Really?!" Rever and Yuzuro said simultaneously.
Xin nodded. "My yer name is Lord Schrodinger, and I''m still currently in the Newbie Ind."
Xin didn''t think of any problems by sharing his ount name as long as he kept his advantages hidden.
"You''re still in the Newbie Ind?" Rever chuckled and asked, "Which one?"
"The Abundant Shore."
"Oh, that one." Rever''s eyes widened. "It''s also where I got transported in my first time in the game. Did you already finish the quest about the Floating Market?"
Xin shook his head. "Not yet."
Rever sighed, looking drained as he leaned back in his chair. "Man, just remembering that quest made me feel exhausted."
Xin was intrigued. "Why? Is it that hard?"
Xin had checked the forums about the Abundant Shore and all its quests, learning that toplete the Floating Market quest, you needed to reach level twenty and form a group of at least five yers with the same level to defeat the Reef Riders and retrieve the oils.
But most yers gave up because the rewards weren''t that great. There was also that issue about sharing everything within the group. And some even said that the Floating Market was just a regr shop with nothing of note, except for Ilyath''s shop.
However, her items were exorbitantly priced, and no one could afford them at that level.
Since Newbie Inds still restricted the buying of in-game currency with real money, yers couldn''t afford Ilyath''s items. Many preferred to explore the world of Eternia right away instead of grinding for days to reach level twenty.
Rever grinned at Xin. "Yep, it''s probably hard if your level is weak, and you need to grind for days just to get your level to twenty and form groups of more than five. I lost patience at level 10 and went on my way."
Xin understood; Rever was never a patient guy.
"I also didn''t finish that quest," Yuzuro chimed in. She then pped her hands together. "Do you want to y the game after you finish with the Newbie Ind, Xin?"
"Sure, but it might take some days."
Rever leaned forward eagerly. "Don''t tell me you''re going to finish all the quests there?" He shook his head and waved his hand dismissively. "Forget it. It''s not worth it. Dive into Eternia right away. You''ll get more awesome quests with better rewards and encounter beasts that give a lot of EXP and drops."
"It''s fine. I''m still enjoying the ind. I''ll move out once I get bored," Xin replied.
Rever shrugged. "Suit yourself."
"Then let''s add each other," Yuzuro suggested.
After adding each other as friends and chatting some more, the three said their goodbyes, promising to meet up in the future again.
Since their locations were near anyway, Xin didn''t mind.
It was a nice feeling to reconnect with someone he knew in the past.
Itforted him somewhat.
Chapter 34: Glesga
Chapter 34: Glesga ? ?
As Xin entered the house, he found Xiaxia sitting in the living room, scrolling through her phone. Her fake blonde hair was wrapped in a towel, and she wore a casual shirt and short shorts that showed off her slender legs.
"Hey, you''re back! Where have you been?" Xiaxia asked.
"Bathhouse," Xin replied, sounding uninterested. "I left you a note."
Xiaxia scoffed, not convinced. "Four hours just for a bath? I don''t buy it."
Xin nced at her briefly before heading to the bathroom to wash his clothes. "You might want to change your shorts. They make you look fat."
"Wha¨C¨C!" Xiaxia''s face burst red. "I''m not fat!"
But all she got in response was the sound of the bathroom door mming shut.
Xiaxia''s heart was still racing, her breath heavy as she tried to calm down. When she finally regained herposure, she stormed into the bedroom and stood in front of the mirror.
"I''m not fat," she repeated to herself, her voice shaking. She struck a few poses, trying to see herself from different angles. "He''s just making up stories to annoy me."
However, her eyes then zeroed in on her thigh, and she couldn''t help but pinch the smallyer of skin. "Guk!" she eximed.
=======
In the bustling town of Abundant Shore, Xin dedicated his time to exploring and epting quests from the various NPCs.
As he strolled around, he noticed a crowd of yers gathered near the floating market. They were all around levels 15 to 20, forming groups of at least five members.
"Recruiting for the Floating Market Quest!" shouted a yer, trying to attract more participants. "Only Level 15 and above!"
"Hey, you!" a yer approached Xin and asked, "Do you want toplete the quest with us, err . . . Lord Schrodinger?"
Curious, Xin nced at the yer. He was a Halfling with two slim long horns at the side of his head, and from his equipment, he seemed to be a thief.
Xin then shifted his gaze over the yer''s name, Noobinator. He didn''t know if yers didn''t take their name seriously because they could change it in the future, but he wasn''t the one to judge them.
After all, his name was after his dead cat.
"You don''t have to worry about the loot. We''ll distribute everything fairly, and for rare items, we''ll decide with a dice throw. So, what do you say?" Noobinator persisted.
". . ." Xin couldn''t say anything with how the guy was talking nonstop.
"This is a golden chance," Noobinator urged, gesturing towards another yer nearby. It was a bulky Orc named Troll Master, a level 21 Barbarian. "He''s the strongest yer on this ind and will lead us against the Reef Raiders to im those oils. With him, we can definitelyplete the quest."
"Ara? Complete the quest? You must be joking."
Xin and Noobinator''s attention shifted to the new voice.
Xin was surprised to see that it was Skrk again.
Skrk grabbed Xin''s hand and confidently proimed, "We''ll be the ones to clear that quest. Me and my team over there will retrieve those oils."
Xin nced over at the other side and noticed another group forming. There were around ten of them, but their levels ranged from 7 to 15. It seemed like they were nning to tackle the quest with sheer numbers.
"And just so you know, Lord Schrodinger will be joining our group," Skrk said with a charming wink, pointing her finger yfully at Xin. "Isn''t that right, Lord Schrodinger?"
She shed him her most captivating smile, one that could easily melt any man''s heart.
But Xin only pulled his hand, and uttered, "I''m not interested." He then walked away without ncing back.
Skrk pouted, slightly disappointed that Xin had refused her offer. Noobinator, on the other hand, looked a bit annoyed.
As Xin walked away, Skrk and Noobinator began arguing with each other, their voices growing louder as they tried to convince Xin to join their respective groups.
Ignoring theirmotion, Xin continued his quest to dominate the NPCs, searching for the mayor in the bustling town of Seagull''s Nest.
Finally, he spotted the mayor and approached him.
"Lord Schrodinger, wee to Seagull''s Nest! What can I do for you, my friend?" the mayor warmly greeted him.
They literally became friends after Xin greeted him back.
Xin tried to maintain a friendly atmosphere and keep his poker face to a minimum. He kept in mind the advice Drasta had given him about not revealing the deaths caused by the Sahuagin on the shore.
"Are you here to participate in the quest for oil? We could really need an adventurer like you," Glesga pleaded.
And when Xin nodded, his [Rtionship Level] with Glesga had reached [Intimate], and his personal information became avable to him.
[Mayor Glesga Seacaller
Medium Humaniod (Elf, Noble), Lawful Evil
Glesga was the only survivor when one of the falling rocks of the Baskan court mage''s summoning destroyed their family tower. They were only a child when other half-elves took them in and made sure in their upbringing that they knew the Seacallers had been nobles in the Baska kingdom.
Glesga won over the surviving fishing viges and united them in an effort to rebuild at least one town. Seagull''s Nest is their most prized achievement, but their stability has been put to the test with copsing structures,ck of resources, and the threat of Reef Raiders.
Glesga will do anything to protect their city and their hard-earned status.]

Chapter 35: The Quest for the Oil
Chapter 35: The Quest for the Oil ? ? ?
"The Floating Market will be closed for a few weeks unless you get more oil," Glesga exined. "We''ll offer rewards if you retrieve the oil barrels stolen by the Reef Raiders a few weeks ago. I don''t want to risk sending patrollers since the town will be left undefended, so we could only rely on adventurers to retrieve the oils. Do you want to ept the quest?"
Xin nodded, epting the quest. There was no time limit, so he might as well take it. He nned to gather better equipment from NPCs and upgrade his gear before heading out to face the Reef Raiders.
"Splendid! That''s the spirit!" Glesga was pleased, and Xin''s [Rtionship Level] with him shot up to [Intimate].
Glesga then proceeded to give Xin directions to find the stolen oil. "There''s a beach, one day travel from here where we believe the Reef Raiders are keeping the stolen barrels. Getting there is easy, but you may run into ambushing parties."
Glesga exined the three approaches they could take to reach the outpost once they crossed the hills surrounding the bay where Seagull''s Nest was located. "The first option is to go along the beach and then dive underwater when you get closer. The downside is that the waters are crystal clear, so you might be easily spotted."
"The second approach is through the palm tree forests surrounding the beach outpost," he continued. "And finally, the third option is a head-on approach via the rocky formations on the beach or by boat."
Glesga also mentioned that Drasta might sell them potions for the dangerous quest. "The Reef Raiders are vignt and will fight to defend their position, so be careful."
[The Quest, STEALING IT BACK, has been updated!]
"By the way, you can have this as a sign of our friendship," Glesga said, offering Xin a gift.
[RECEIVED!
WATER CANNON (Very Rare, Requires Attunement), given by the NPC Glesga
A gun that shoots water magic and requires two hands to wield. They could shoot two rounds per five seconds.
A brass and wood cylinder full of twisting ss tubes and intricate glowing wires with a simple grip. The barrel glows a deep blue when active, emitting hot steam.
Once fired, the glow brightens to pink and finally intense white; the water it shoots glows and fizzles with this pinkish-white energy.
INT + 100
May cause FREEZE for five seconds.]
Finally! A weapon upgrade. Xin thought to himself, satisfied with the rare item given by the town mayor. It was just what he had hoped for.
He decided to attune to the Water Cannonter at the cksmith. As for his armor, he had the [Crustacean Carapace], but it only a +10 CONS, so he knew he needed to find better equipment in the future.
Xin thanked Glesga for the gift and the information about the quest, feeling grateful for the new equipment he received.
After speaking with Glesga, Xin made his way to Drasta to purchase her [Water Breathing Potion]. He had a feeling he might need it if he had to swim to that beach Glesga mentioned.
Xin briefly considered asking Ariel for help, but the thought of dealing with that crazy mermaid again was enough to make him reject the idea. Xin would rather face dangerous quests alone than deal with Ariel''s unpredictable behavior.
After his talk with Glesga, Xin decided to ask Triton for help with the quest to retrieve the oils. It would be much easier with Triton''s strengths and skills.
But first, he went to the cksmith to have the [Water Cannon] attuned to him, so he could equip it for the uing quest.
With the weapon now attuned, Xin made his way to Drasta to buy the [Water Breathing Potion] he needed for the underwater part of the quest.
As he approached Drasta, she noticed him and asked, "Oh, you''re going to retrieve the oils?"
Xin nodded in confirmation, and Drasta seemed slightly disappointed as she continued, "The town is responsible for killing nearly every whale that approached the bay in thest decades. That''s why we have this oil problem."
She then suggested, "It''s pointless to go whaling now, but if you''re brave and strong, you could try to kill what I believe is a monstrous whale that''s made itsir near the reefs a day''s travel away."
[ACQUIRED the Quest, LET''S GO FISHING!]
Xin was surprised to learn about another quest rted to oil, but he epted it without hesitation.
After purchasing the [Water Breathing Potion], Xin continued his journey, pleting various quests and interacting with NPCs.
Determined to acquire all the items on the Newbie Ind, Xin was fine spending weekspleting quests and interacting with the town folks to maximize his rtionship levels with them.
Money became a significant motivation for him, and he made sure to go to the Adventurer''s Guild to auction his items and free up his inventory from time to time.
Unlikest time, now he wisely set his auctions for a week to get the most out of his rare loots.
=======================
The DEVELOPER''s DISTRESS
=======================
"He sure is taking his time on the ind," one developermented.
"I would too if I knew that all NPCs held rare items once you maxed out your rtionship level with them," the other replied.
"I have an idea!" the first developer eximed.
"What? It better be good," the other retorted.
"You know that he''ll have to y with his friends once he''s out of the Newbie Ind, right? He''s bound to form groups and even join guilds with people he knows!"
"So?"
"So . . . we will make the connections from all the people he interacts with in the game. Most of the yers have already announced their real identities. It will only be a matter of time before we make the connections with him!"
"That''s . . . that''s a good idea."
"Right?!"
"And then what?"
"What do you mean, ''What''?"
"What would you do after you find his identity? Make him delete his ount? He would never do that, not with that cheat CHA. So what are you going to do?"
". . . I . . . I haven''t thought about it that far."
Chapter 36: The Failed Attempt
Chapter 36: The Failed Attempt
The next day, Xin woke up to the sound of his mother''s voice, shouting at them to wake up.
"Come on, you two! It''s already ten in the morning!"
Still feeling sleepy, Xin tried to go back to sleep, but his mother''s voice persisted, as if she was right beside him.
"Wake up? It''s a Sunday! We''re supposed to rest!" Xiaxiained groggily, clearly not pleased with being woken up.
"We''ve already done all the chores yesterday. We have every right to sleep in," she added.
"It''s already ten in the morning! You''ve been up all night ying that stupid game!" their mother retorted.
Knowing that his mother must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed, Xin reluctantly got up and went to his mother, who was in the middle of an argument with his sister.
Without a word, Xin handed the remaining money to Evelyn. The crumpled bills totalling to thousands of dors left her and Xiaxia stunned, gaping at Xin in disbelief.
"Y-you . . . Where did you get that money?!" Evelyn asked, almost shouting.
"And you still have that much money left?!" Xiaxia questioned with wide eyes.
Xin yawned, looking rather bored. "I got it by ying the game."
"What did you do in that Newbie Ind?" Xiaxia muttered to herself. "If I knew it was that lucrative, I wouldn''t have left so early."
"Can I go back to sleep now?" Xin asked, yawning again as he scratched his back.
"Of course, of course. You can sleep in our bedroom. What do you want for lunch?" Evelyn asked, her excitement evident as she counted the money, her smile stretching from ear to ear.
"Anything," Xin replied without care. He epted the offer and headed to the bedroom to resume his sleep.
Xiaxia looked like she was about to do the same when Evelyn grabbed her hair, stopping her in her tracks.
"Not you," Evelyn said firmly. "You will help me make dinner."
"Egh? Not fair!" Xiaxiained.
Evelyn stared at Xiaxia with dead set eyes, and Xiaxia couldn''t help but notice the uncanny resemnce to Xin.
"If you want to go back to sleep, then give me money," Evelyn demanded.
"What? I don''t have any right now. I told you all my money was used for a dungeon raid. Just wait a little while after we finish the raid," Xiaxia bargained.
Evelyn simply rolled her eyes. "Then no sleep for you. Come on now, I still have other things to do."
Xiaxia grumbled under her breath butplied, knowing she had no choice in the matter.
=======
That afternoon, after taking lunch, Xin logged back into the game and was greeted with amotion in Seagull''s Nest.
It appeared that the two groups that attempted to retrieve the oil had failed miserably. The Reef Riders had spotted them before they even reached the raider''s hideout.
"They got ambushed by the sea! Their boats got sunk!" one yer eximed.
"They should have known better than to use boats. It''s in the forums!" another yer grumbled.
"I think they were just trying to show off," someone chimed in. "They wanted to be the first ones to do it by boat and get famous on social media."
Xin shook his head at their foolishness. The guide clearly stated that using boats would attract attention and was not a good idea. He had already known this from the forums, but it seemed like some yers still refused to listen and learn from others'' mistakes.
As the yers discussed their next n, Xin quietly slipped away from the crowd and headed towards the beach. He wanted to explore the area and see if there was any other quest he couldplete while waiting for the others to figure things out.
Xin wasn''t in a rush, and he knew that patience and careful nning were key to sess in Guildbane.
Xin checked his auctioned items, and seeing the substantial amount of money he had earned, he felt even more motivated to continue his adventures in Guildbane.
"Lord Schrodinger!" Skrk''s voice called out, and Xin turned to see her rushing towards him, clearly out of breath. "W-wait . . . damn it!"
Xin waited patiently as Skrk caught her breath, curious to know what she wanted.
"Are you free right now?" Skrk asked, still panting. "We could really use some help. Some of our members left, and we badly need yers to fill in the nks."
"Is it about the Oil quest?" Xin inquired.
"Yes," Skrk replied.
Before Xin could decline, Skrk interrupted him, "Wait. Hear me out first."
Xin remained silent, allowing her to continue.
"You can be the leader of the group," Skrk proposed, "and any rare items we find that suit your ss and race will belong to you. How about that?"
The offer sounded too good to be true, and Xin couldn''t help but wonder, "Why me? My level is just seventeen."
". . ." Skrk hesitated and looked away, her expression betraying that something was indeed off.
"If you can''t tell me, then goodbye," Xin said.
"Wait!" Skrk grabbed hold of Xin''s clothes, feelingpelled to exin, "It''s because those guys are very arrogant and demand that all loot will belong to them."
". . ." Xin remained silent, allowing her to continue.
Skrk sighed, realizing she had no choice but to borate further. "This is amon thing in the game, after all. The guys who have higher levels have more pride and demands than the rest."
So that''s the reason, Xin thought. Skrk wanted him because she believed he wouldn''t demand much and that he looked like a noob.
Well, he was a noob, so Xin didn''t mind that assumption.
"Sorry, but I''m not interested in partnering up," Xin declined politely and walked away.
Skrk could only watch as Lord Schrodinger left, feeling somewhat disappointed yet again.
Chapter 37: The Books
Chapter 37: The Books ? ?
Skrk continued to grumble to herself as she walked around town, trying to recruit members for the quest.
"Ugh, that guy is so frustrating," she muttered under her breath, remembering Lord Schrodinger''s refusal to join their group.
"Why is this so difficult?" she grumbled to herself. "I should have just followed the guide and bought the [Water Breathing Potion] instead of trying to take the boat like those other fools."
She had never attempted this quest in the past, considering it to be not worth the trouble, so it was actually her first time.
As she continued her search, Skrk couldn''t help but recall her failed attempt at the quest. ''Those Reef Raiders were no joke. Their levels were at least twenty, and they were swarming with dozens of them. No wonder it requires a well-coordinated group of yers at Level 20 or higher.''
She shuddered at the memory of her drowning death and thought, ''At least I only suffered a small EXP penalty. Those unfortunate ones who got struck by the Raiders were obliterated, and their levels dropped to a massive five in an instant.''
A lot of yers had already deserted the quest because of that, saying that they''d rather not take the risk anymore. "Can''t me them," Skrk murmured to herself. "It''s a dangerous quest, especially without a solid team."
As a Human Sorceress, Skrk knew she was one of the weakest sses in the early game. She needed constant protection from a tank or another DPS yer like a Swordsman or Barbarian to survive the challenging battles ahead.
yers who specialize in dealing high amounts of damage quickly were often referred to as "DPS yers" and were key in taking down enemies and bosses efficiently.
Skrk reminisced about her old ount when she was an Elven Hunter. Back then, soloing quests was a breeze, and she enjoyed the freedom of roaming Eternia alone.
However, as she progressed in the game, she couldn''t resist the allure of bing an Angel Sorcerer. She was captivated by their elegant appearance and powerful magic.
To be an Angel, she needed to change her race to Human, which meant starting over with a new character.
Filled with excitement and anticipation for views and the prospect of bing an Angel, she decided to delete her old ount and create a new one.
Deleting ounts and starting over with new race or ss was amon practice in the game. Many yers did it to explore different ystyles and enjoy diverse aspects of the game, or just wanted to enter a guild with a rare ss or race.
But now, as she struggled to find reliable teammates for the challenging quest, she couldn''t help but feel a pang of regret for her decision. Soloing was no longer as effortless, and the need for a strong team became more apparent.
On the other hand, Xin strolled through the town with a carefree demeanor, skillfully obtaining rare items from every NPC he encountered.
He was determined to finish everything before dark, and with the ind''s few poption, he achieved his goals with ease.
The best items he acquired so far were:
? Spellbook x1
? Skillbook x1
Xin was ecstatic because he knew the value of these books. They were incredibly rare and hard toe by.
Usually, they were drops from a Diamond and tinum Chests, which could only be obtained by achieving first blood in a Hidden Boss or Dungeon raid.
Who would have thought that he would find such precious items as gifts from NPCs on the Newbie Ind?
A Spellbook and a Skillbook granted unique spells and skills specific to a yer''s race and ss. These abilities were one-of-a-kind in the entire world of Eternia.
If he decided to sell these items, he would strike gold. These books were well-known for making a yer near virtually unbeatable.
Top of Form
Every yer in the leaderboard possessed a unique skill or spell that set them apart, making them highly sought after by guilds. Just having such a distinct ability was like a guaranteed ticket to a top guild.
However, acquiring these rare skills or spells was no easy task, especially for solo yers. In the game, most of the top guilds had acquired all the rare items, leaving small guilds to rely on luck if they wanted topete.
Xin searched for information and discovered that one Spellbook and Skillbook alone cost a minimum of one hundred million gil, and the price could increase significantly depending on the auction.
With that amount of money, he could easily buy back their house in Area 40, which they lost due to financial troubles.
However, when he thought about it carefully, Xin hesitated. The books were like investments in his character''s future. They could greatly enhance his avatar''s power once he acquired his ss, securing more money in the long run.
For now, Xin decided to keep the books to himself and wait to decide what to do with themter.

Chapter 38: The Items in Town ? ? ?
With a gleeful expression, Xin went on to inspect the other rare equipment he had acquired.
? Beast Butcher, Axe (Legendary, requires attunement), given by the NPC Cleaver
This formidable weapon is crafted from the bones, ws, or teeth of a fearsome beast. When wielded, it allowed the user to tap into the wild nature and savage strength of the creature, granting them a 100% critical attack bonus against beasts.
Furthermore, while attuned to this weapon, the user gained a portion of the beast''s physical prowess. Their Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution increased by 10%, mirroring that of the beast.
NOTE: Only Swordsman, Tank, and Barbarian sses could wield this powerful axe.
? Binding Crossbow (Very Rare), given by the NPC Talia

? Tornado Shield (Very Rare), given by the NPC Magnus
This circr shield bore a mesmerizing spiraling swirl etched into its surface. It possessed four charges, and the user could expend one charge to summon a mighty tornado upon a Medium-sized or smaller creature within a range of 50 meters.
Upon activation, the tornado would hurl the target up to 100 meters away to the farthest empty space. The unfortunate creature would suffer additional damage upon impact with the ground.
The shield regains one charge every four hours.
NOTE: Only the Tank ss could utilize this impressive shield.
? Whirling de (Short Sword, requires attunement, Rare), given by the NPC Cedric
Though it appeared to be a simple de given to new adventurers, this short sword held a magical secret. Along its length, an engraving in Common read, ''It''s dangerous out there alone!''
As a bonus action, the user could charge up the weapon, causing it to hum with energy and emit a 5-meter aura of dim, blue light. Once charged, the user could unleash the weapon''s energy, causing it to spin violently and strike all creatures within ten meters with double damage.
Once this property is used, it couldn''t be utilized again until the following dawn.
NOTE: Only sword-wielding sses could harness the power of this remarkable weapon.
? Coral Staff (Wondrous item, Very Rare, requires attunement by a druid, sorcerer, or warlock)
Crafted from jagged coral, this staff held remarkable power. It could be wielded as a magical quarterstaff, granting a single bonus attack to its user.
When holding the staff, the wielder gained a swim speed equal to their walking speed and the ability to breathe underwater.
The staff possessed 20 charges. As an action, the user could expend charges to cast various coral-themed spells: flesh to stone (6 charges), spike growth (2 charges), stone skin (4 charges), wall of stone (5 charges), or wall of thorns (6 charges).
Additionally, the staff could conjure an area of coral at a point the user could see. The size of the area depended on the charges expended, up to a 10-meter radius per charge. The area became difficult terrain, and any creature dashing inside it suffered piercing damage.
The coral areasted for 10 minutes or until dispelled. At dawn, the staff regained +4 charges.
If the final charge was expended, the coral shattered into a thousand shards, and the staff is destroyed.
NOTE: Only staff-wielding sses could utilize the incredible power of the Coral Staff.
? Dead Man''s Blood (Poison, ingested, uncurable, Very Rare), given by the NPC Rose
This vivid red liquid, tainted with floating traces of ck, served as a form of protection.

? Enchanted Alcohol (Fortified Spirit Potion, Rare), given by the NPC Lisandro
This potion provided a unique boost to one''s abilities but came at a cost to mental rity. Upon consumption, it granted a temporary increase of +10 to STR for the next 10 minutes, but it also resulted in a decrease of -10 to INT.
? Love''s Enduring Sacrifice (Wondrous item, Artifact, requires attunement), given by the NPC Elinor
The elegant ss sculpture of a rose symbolized undying love and affection, a gift that solidified the deepest bond between two people.
To attune to the rose, both partners (the giver and receiver) had to allow a thorn to draw at least a single drop of blood. This unique and permanent attunement bound the rose to them exclusively and rendered it useless for anyone else. The couple became known as "the attuned."
As long as their love remained true, the rose granted the following benefits:
? Shared Sensation: While in physical contact with one another, any damage taken by either of the attuned would be split equally between them.
? Empowered Strength: When within ten meters of each other, both attuned gained +10 to one of their chosen stats.
? Loving Touch: While in physical contact with one another, the attuned healed each other at a rate of 100 HP per minute.
? Enduring Love: If one of the attuned died, their soul would reside within the rose, bypassing any death penalty. The living partner could resurrect their loved one once a day by holding the rose.
? Shared Afterlife: If both partners died, their souls could choose to reside within the rose, avoiding the usual death penalty.
However, if the true love of either or both of the attuned wavered or was lost, the rose''s magic would lie dormant, and the rose would turn the color of ash. Only by rekindling true love between the attuned could the magic of the rose be reawakened.

There were various other equipment, items, materials, and potions Xin had acquired, but those books and the once listed above were undoubtedly the best items so far. He couldn''t help but feel ecstatic about his luck on Newbie Ind.
Additionally, he also obtained several Golden Tools like the Golden Pickaxe, Golden Hammer, and Golden Axe. These tools would greatly enhance his foraging journey, making it a breeze to gather resources and materials.
As night fell, Xin made ns to forage the next day and see what new items he could obtain using the Golden Tools.
The thought of discovering more rare and valuable items filled him with excitement.
Although he hadn''t found any recement for his [Crustacean Carapace], Xin felt content with the treasure he had gathered.
With this, he could steadily pay their debt and buy back the life that they once have.
Chapter 39: Marriage in Game
Chapter 39: Marriage in Game ? ? ?
Xin couldn''t help but be curious about the [Love''s Enduring Sacrifice] artifact. It was unexpected to find such a rare and meaningful item in the hands of an old woman NPC like Elinor.
In Guildbane, Xin knew about the concept of [Marriages]. It was one of the reasons why the game was so popr among yers. However, there were age restrictions in ce for getting married. Both partners needed to be at least eighteen years old in the real world.
While the in-game marriage didn''t grant any legal rights, in reality, it provided numerous benefits for married yers within the game. Cooldowns for their abilities were reduced to just 10%, and they received an additional +5 to all their stats when they were within ten meters of each other.
These boons made many yers eager to take advantage of the marriage system. Some yers simply married for the fun of it, while others sought the gamey benefits.
There were restrictions, though. No honeymoon. No multiple partners. And marriage must take ce in front of a priest.
Xin found the idea of in-game marriages amusing. If he and Meilyn were still together, he would have given her the [Love''s Enduring Sacrifice] without a second thought.
Shaking Meilyn out of his head, Xin took a deep breath and reminded himself that he had no time to be depressed. There were still plenty of things he needed to do in the game.
As the sun began to set, Xin headed back to the shore to talk to Triton about the quest.
"Sorry, Lord Schrodinger. As much as I want to go with you and ensure your safety, I can''t interfere with quests," Triton exined.
So there were limitations, Xin wondered. Or maybe it was just Triton? To be sure, he decided to ask other NPCs about their involvement in quests.
"I can help you grind in the area, though," Triton offered.
"It''s fine. Thank you for the offer, but I have to go andplete some other quests. Maybe tomorrow," Xin replied.
As he was about to leave, Triton offered another solution, "You can try asking for help from other NPCs involved in the quests."
That might work, Xin thought and proceeded to test his theory.
However, most of the NPCs he asked had reasons why they couldn''t help. Some were stuck in certain areas, others had other tasks to attend to, some were Non-Combatant NPCs, and others simply feared the Reef Raiders.
Glesga and Drasta couldn''t leave town, and the other NPCs either didn''t care about the quest or wanted to marry him. With no other options, Xin decided to set out on his own.
In truth, he just wanted to check whether he couldplete the quest alone or not, and then n his strategy from his experience.
As he made his way to the port to rent a boat, he hesitated. Swimming in the dark, deep sea for a day didn''t seem like a good idea. Plus, it was risky and time-consuming.
Renting a boat would be a faster and safer option. No wonder the others rented boats even knowing that it wouldn''t work. The waters was really scary now that he was standing in front of it.
Lost in thought, Xin heard a voice from behind.
"Lord Schrodinger, my love! What are you doing in these parts?"
As Xin looked over, he saw Captain Scarlet O''Malley, the one who had given him the [Sea Orb Compass] that would point him in the right direction if he was traveling on the sea. He had kept it in his inventory, thinking it mighte in handy when finding the Reef Raiders'' headquarters.
Captain Scarlet was a sexy woman with curls of fiery red hair, wearing a signature ck eye patch over her left eye, and dressed in full pirate regalia. Her beauty was striking, though rough around the edges.
"Could it be . . ." Captain Scarlet''s red eyes narrowed, and a mischievous smirk crossed her luscious red lips, "you''ve made up your mind and wanted toe with me sail the vast sea¨C¨C!"
"Captain," Xin quickly interjected, cutting her off, "Is it possible to sail to the Reef Raiders'' Hideout?"
Captain Scarlet seemed taken aback for a moment before her confidence returned, and she smiled. "Is it about the quest for oils?"
Xin nodded.
"Normally, we don''t venture into those waters. But since it''s you asking, I''ll do everything in my power to transport you there or at least get you close to their hideout without them detecting us."
Xin''s heart raced with hope. "Is that possible?"
Captain Scarlet flicked herrge pirate hat and smirked. "Who do you think you''re talking to? I am Captain Scarlet O''Malley! The sexiest, most good-looking, and greatest pirate of the sea!"
Xin forgot that she was fierce as she was vain.
"That would be great."
Captain Scarlet''s face remained confident, but a slight blush crept on her cheeks.
"Avast, me hearties! It is time to set sail and seek our fortunes on the open seas!" she dered, rallying her crew.
As the port turned busy, Xin thought to himself that there were really NPCs who were willing to help him with the quest.
He would take note of that information for future quests.
For now, it was time to get those oils, open the Floating Market, and get his reward in Ilyath''s shop forpleting his very first quest with Triton.
Chapter 40: Sailing through the Waters
Chapter 40: Sailing through the Waters ? ? ?
The ship that Xin boarded was a grand vessel, its sails billowing with the wind as it glided across the calm, glistening sea.
The ship''s wooden exterior was weathered by the salty air, bearing the marks of countless voyages. A figurehead of a fierce sea serpent adorned the bow, its eyes seemingly watching over the crew.
Come to think of it . . . Xin recalled the discussions he had read on the forums about the infamous Pirates. ording to the, these pirates were notorious for never allowing yers on their ships. Anyone who dared to approach would be swiftly fought off, making yers think twice about getting too close.
The Pirates'' ship was a formidable sight, rge and imposing, armed with cannons that made it a force to be reckoned with. No ordinary boat stood a chance against it, and yers knew better than to attempt any confrontation againstbatant NPCs like the pirates.
Because of this, yers often sought the services of fishermen who operated smaller, less intimidating boats. These boats were their only safe option for traveling across the sea, as they had no desire to draw the attention of the fearsome Raiders.
As Xin considered the Reef Raiders'' patrols near their territory, an idea struck him. Perhaps they could destroy those smaller boats that the Raiders were using to patrol the waters. By doing so, they might create an opportunity to get closer to their hideout without drawing their attention.
With this n in mind, Xin felt a glimmer of hope that they could find a way to approach the Reef Raiders'' hideout safely. He realized that strategy and timing would be crucial in this endeavor, and he was determined to be smart about their approach.
On the deck, Xin saw the crew members working diligently, hoisting sails, steering the ship, and maintaining the rigging. They were a diverse group of creatures, each with their unique appearance and attire, proudly wearing their pirate badges and symbols.
The sea stretched endlessly before them, its surface reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. The water was smooth and tranquil, with gentle ripples asionally dancing in the ship''s wake. The horizon met the sky in a seamless blend of blue and orange, filling Xin with a sense of awe and wonder.
As the ship sailed further from the shore, the coastline disappeared from view, leaving only an expanse of deep blue water all around. The vastness of the sea was both breathtaking and humbling, making Xin feel like a tiny speck amidst its boundless beauty.
As the night fell, the ship''snterns illuminated the deck, casting a warm glow across the crew''s faces. The stars above twinkled brightly, forming constetions that Xin had never seen before. The moon, a brilliant silver orb, bathed the sea in a soft, shimmering light.
The gentle rocking of the ship and the soothing sound of wavespping against its hull created a peaceful ambiance.
Xin found himself captivated by the serenity of the sea, feeling a sense of unity with nature and its vast mysteries. It was his first time traveling by sea ¨C¨C on a pirate ship at that!
Gradually, Xin was enjoying the game. A world that he thought he could only experience in fantasy was now right before his eyes.
Throughout the journey, Xin couldn''t help but admire the skilled navigation of Captain Scarlet O''Malley. Hermanding presence and expertise in sailing filled him with confidence, knowing he was in capable hands ¨C¨C if only she stopped with the flirtatious wink every few seconds.
As the ship sailed closer to the location of the Reef Raiders'' hideout, the crew''s excitement and anticipation grew palpable.
It seemed like they wanted a fight more than anything else.
The vessel finally arrived at a coral beach about ten miles away from Seagull''s Nest.
Drasta''s words about the creature echoed in Xin''s mind. She had mentioned that the creature would approach the corals on cloudless nights. Intrigued, Xin observed the area, searching for any signs of the elusive creature.
Suddenly, a looming shadow emerged from the depths of the sea. Xin''s eyes widened as he witnessed the majestic sight before him. The creature didn''t seem to mind the presence of the boat, though it appeared to be aware of their presence.
The enormous being swirled gracefully in the water, opening itsrge mouth to feed on a bright myriad of krill.
Xin marveled at the creature''s size and age. Its thick, matte skin was adorned with barnacles, shells, and colorful spiral tattoos, adding to its awe-inspiring appearance.
"It''s a wingless Ancient White Dragon without fly speed," Captain Scarlet''s voice sounded beside him, and Xin knew she had joined him to witness this incredible sight.
"The creature won''t attack unless we attack it first," Captain Scarlet warned. "It doesn''tmunicate with other creatures, even if it''s capable of doing so. It''s best to avoid it."
Xin didn''t even consider confronting such a powerful beast. Thebination of being ancient and a dragon spelled trouble for him.
Using a special item called a [Monocle], Xin examined the Ancient White Dragon''s stats and realized that it was far too strong for him to defeat. He also doubted that Captain Scarlet and her whole crew could take it down.
"What should we do?" Captain Scarlet asked. "If you want to fight it, I''ll assist you."
Shaking his head, Xin declined the offer. "No, let''s leave it be."
He felt disappointed about the quest [Let''s Go Fishing], but it wasn''t worth risking his life for. There was no oil to be found in that beast, and the only thing he might gain from it was the death penalty in the end.
It was wiser to prioritize his safety and move on to other quests.
[You FAILED the Quest, LET''s GO FISHING!]
