《Miserable Life》 Chapter 1: Friend My name is Emily Lavender and I''m 4 years old. I was born on 16 June 1847 in London. My life as a poor little girl had started after my mother passed away when I turned 4. I was about to give up my life and lived in heaven together with my poor mother, but I had succeeded in my life. I never knew who my father was because my mother had always skipped this question and told me to behave properly. I was wandering in the crowded town of London offering myself to the crowds. The city was busier with the noises of the steam engines hisses and coaches beating on the roads. The sky was dark and grey as if the day could rain soon even though it was summer. I was very dirty after sweeping a chimney in the River''s house and my elbows and knees hurt so much. I was so hungry at the time, I''d no money to buy even a single food. Then I saw a black coach passing by the bakery shop. The unbearable smell of the bread had made my little tummy begged and influenced me to be a naughty girl. I decided to steal one of his warm bread. I tailed a tall man with black coat and tall black hat on his head and had side hair like whiskers silently without him noticing me. I hid myself behind him as he opened the door of the bakery shop. I dispersed myself away from him and started to steal two breads. "A thief!!" Shouted the shop owner. The tall man hurriedly turned back and saw me holding two breadsticks in my hand. I got out of the shop hurriedly and the bakery man was chasing me while holding a wooden rolling pin in his hand. My legs were hurt and very painful but I kept running till I finally fell. The shop owner caught me in his hand and hit me badly till I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I realized the two breads that I stole before. They were still in my hand but I was located in a dirty place full of slimes and trashes. I was glad that I would be able to eat for that day then I saw a small brown torn paper with ''I''d paid it for you...'' written on it. The tall man was in my thought and I hope I could see him again and thanked him properly soon. I saw bandages on my knees and my elbows. Probably the man did this to me, I thought. He was very kind to me because he thought of me of no burden at all. I had never seen such a nice man in my life. Later, the sun had totally set and the sky grew darker and the sound of the BigBen Tower tolling could still be heard from such distant places. I wandered around again and find my way back to the Thames riverbank cause I was very used to sleeping there. I was very tired after walking for more than an hour and lost in the middle of the noisy city. I found a dark place where there were less people using that route. I slept there for a moment while waiting for the day to turn bright again. The next day, it had been a week since mother had passed away. I wandered around London again and advertised myself to get a job. I was about to work at coal mining but women and children were banned from working there since 1842, so I''d no job for now. I used a tin can and begged for money from people passing the road but nobody had the heart to willingly give me even a single penny. My injuries still hurt and I was very weak to walk so I rested in front of a tailor shop. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. The shop owner then saw me and immediately ordered me to leave that place alone. I begged for a penny from her but she threw dirty food wastes on me. ¡°Get lost you dirty maggot rat!¡± she shouted and slammed the door on my face. I felt very weak at that time. I stared at the sky as it reached noon but the clouds were grey and dark. Nobody was kind and everyone were devils from hell who masked as humans. Humans were very vile and vicious especially the rich, they enjoyed a wealthy life but they were wicked and coward! They always treated the poor like slaves and always acknowledged them as filthy! I finally reached Thame River and saw a boatman stealing valuable things from a dead body. This kind of thing was very often to happen, dead bodies were found in the river by the boatmen then stole and sold the valuable things they got from them. I sat against the fence of the Thames River and rested myself. Coaches passing by the road had awakened me from my sleep. Then I saw a black cat walking towards me and meowing. She had shiny and silky fur and I saw an expensive material was used to make a collar for the cat. The owner ought to be rich, I thought. I patted her head then she stayed beside me until the day had broken. I called her Emerald because of her shining Emerald coloured eyes. At night, I couldn¡¯t bear the coldness of the night breezes that I hugged Emerald tightly because I only had her to warm up myself. I shivered a lot then suddenly remembered mother¡¯s sweet voice singing a sad and lovely lullaby about an orphan who died of her miserable life. I was so tired that I slept soundly against the fence. Suddenly I woke up as Emerald disturbed my sleep. She went away so I followed her. ¡°Where you going?¡± I asked again. She could bring me away for more than a mile, I thought. She didn¡¯t stop so I followed her to every corner she went. She finally stopped by a house. I caught her in my hand then suddenly a fat and old woman opened the door throwing another dirty young boy like me out of her house. He looked hurt and badly beaten. ¡°Naughty boy deserves punishment!¡± the fat lady scolded the boy, ¡°you are lucky to be free! But if you are with the other master, I guarantee you will be sentenced to jail!!¡± She slammed the door harshly. The boy¡¯s hands and legs were badly wounded and were bleeding. Some part of his face were swollen and his other eye was dark like pandas''. Then Emerald went closer to the boy and made herself comfortable with him. ¡°Sorry Aurora, I couldn¡¯t make it today but I got 2 pennies,¡± the boy told Emerald. ¡°Emerald¡¯s yours?¡± I asked, trying to be friendly with him. He watched me from head to toe with his swelling eye, ¡°what¡¯s Emerald?¡± ¡°The cat, I just became a friend to her,¡± ¡°Aurora is my friend. What¡¯s your business?¡± staring at me again then his bulb light up, ¡°ahh, you''re the pudding-slammer girl! What a coincidence of meeting you here.¡± He stood up slowly. I grabbed his hand and helped him to stand properly, ¡°you shouldn¡¯t call me that, doddy!¡± He rubbed his palms against his ragged dirty green shirt, ¡°you¡¯re a better foolish then I am or should I call you, Strut Noddy,¡± ¡°Am not!¡± I crossed my hand. I realised that he had better English and his accent was incredible but he was just a poor dirty boy like me! Only rich children got a high chance of going to school. ¡°Are you posh?¡± I asked him. ¡°What if your suggestions are wrong, young girl?¡± ¡°Well, your cat look fancy and your English is better,¡± ¡°I went to school,¡± "Why you wander around bugging others? Aren¡¯t you lucky to be rich?¡± The boy turned silent for a moment, then he began to speak, ¡°rich without proper love won¡¯t make your life happy, but miserable. You better stayed at your position, girl.¡± The boy lent me one of his pennies then left the area. I looked at him until I couldn¡¯t see any more of his figure walking in the dark. I went back to the Thames river and stared at the boatmen picking up trash floating on the surface of the water. I felt lonely again. Chapter 2: The Chimney I¡¯d finally been offered to work after wandering the miserable and cruel days. A man met me by the street starring the waves rolling on the surface of the Thame River doing nothing. Looking at the size of my body had lighted his bulb to ask me favors. I took the wooden handle sweeper and started to enter the small gate of the fireplace and started to sweep the wall of the chimney. It was dusty and dark inside and made me cough many times. I climbed the chimney which the harsh texture of the wall scratched my elbows, my body and my knees easily. I¡¯d climbed about half a meter of the chimney already and I could still hear the man¡¯s deep voice laughing hollowly and I believed he was in the sitting room. There was another silvery note of a woman talking making the echoes double and harsh. The voice of their children arguing to each other could be heard even from such distant places. The chimney got darker and darker as I climbed further above. It was more than half an hour already but I still in the chimney. I felt very hungry that my little tummy grumbled many times, even if I stopped for break, nobody would had the heart to offer me some foods. I continued to work with my stomach ached. My elbows and my knees were ached like they¡¯d been cut by thousand knives. Starving and hurt, then suddenly the woods from the fireplace were lighted by one of the servants as the day grew colder. I realized that the temperature of the surrounding was colder than before but now I felt warm as the heat from the fire below reached me. Not so long from before, I started to feel that my feet were burning from the heat and had encouraged me to work quicker. ¡°Little girl, hurry up your work before you turn into ashes,¡± I heard the deep voice of the man remind me. I heard a sound from below that the man had poured something to the fire and had made it extremely hot and ready to burn my body. I felt hot and my body sweats. My sweat had made my wounded skin ached and I couldn¡¯t bear it. I fell in the fire but I was lucky that the master of the house had prepared a bucket of cold water to extinguish the fire from spreading to all over my body. His two servants pulled me out of the fireplace then he threw the cold water onto me. I shivered and hugged my little body. Then one of his servants put a huge white and clean towel on me and brought me to the nursery room. I was put to sit on the wooden chair by the fireplace and warmed myself there. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. The servant dried out my hair with the towel and asked, ¡°are you alright, little girl? What¡¯s your name?¡± ¡°Emily Lavender,¡± was the answer. I was so dirty that the servant begged her master to wash me and offered me a clean dress and some food. Even though it was warm, I still shivered of hunger. I was so weak that it ledl my body to lie on the chair. The servant entered the room and was shocked to see my condition. She hurried and called for the doctor. I could only hear the tune of her voice moving in the silent air but couldn¡¯t hear what she¡¯d said. About 10 minutes later, a tall and young doctor came into the room. I was half conscious at that time. He examined me and felt my pulses in my wrist with his two fingers. The servant was standing behind the doctor looking sickly and worried about me. I watched the doctor examined me and hold my head. ¡°This child needs more nutrients and a proper rest,¡± persuaded the doctor. ¡°I''ll take water for her,¡± told the servant without an order then left us alone. The doctor fixed his eyes on mine and asked, ¡°what¡¯s your name?¡± ¡°Emily Lavender,¡± I spoke slowly. ¡°Do you have parents or guardians to look after you?¡± ¡°I¡¯m homeless and my mother died two weeks ago,¡± ¡°Well that makes sense now about your weakness. I shall tell the master to keep you here for a while until you¡¯re fully recovered,¡± he helped me to sit. ¡°Doctor, is there anybody out there who need a poor child like me?¡± I asked. His eyes shone of confusion, then he said, ¡°There are. Do you ever wish to go to school?¡± I shook my head to tell him that I refused. He told me that I could make more friends at school and learnt together with teachers then the servant of the house came in with a glass of water in her hand. She lent the glass to me then I drank it eagerly as I was thirsty. The doctor was ready to leave but before he did he told the servant to nurse me. Later, after the doctor had left, I heard the servant tell her master about keeping me but he said, ¡°you shall not pity a filthy and poor child like her, she doesn¡¯t deserve such passion or it will spoil her life.¡± She then entered the nursery room and told me to sleep. The bell rang as it was time for supper for the servants of the house. She left me alone to sleep then went downstairs. At first, I couldn¡¯t sleep because I was very used to sleeping at a riverbank or dirty places, then later I closed my eyes then slept because I was so tired. The next day, I was fully recovered and it was time for me to set farewell to the house. The servant told me that I could come anytime to clean the chimney and she told me how she¡¯d wished to keep me but the master disliked a miserable child from the street. I was ready for my journey and found my way back to the Thames riverbank. Chapter 3: Games and New friend Half past eight in the morning, the day seemed happy that the sun shone brightly that I could even feel the heat from the sun burning my skin. I wandered the city then by coincidence, I met Emerald. I walked closer to her and patted her head like before then I saw her owner, the boy who I met the other day too. He was hiding behind rose bushes watching against something which I couldn¡¯t even predict what it was. I went closer to the boy and sat beside him. I asked, ¡°what are you looking?¡± ¡°Shhh,¡± he put his finger to his lips then said, ¡°Look at the door knobs with ropes tied on them. Just wait and see.¡± I quietly waited for what would happen next since I was also curious about it. Few minutes later, the doors shook and the people from inside struggled to open them because of the rope tightening on the doorknobs. The boy and I laughed to our satisfaction. He rolled on the ground and laughed harder. ¡°You¡¯re a bully! Naughty boy!¡± I screamed. ¡°Well am not! You¡¯re laughing just about before,¡± ¡°I laugh because you laugh.¡± The people inside the house saw us as they used the back door to get out. They chased us with iron bars in their hands. The naughty boy grabbed my hand then we scuttled away. The owner of the house was extremely mad. We hid in a dark place behind old wooden boxes. The mad people of before had given up on finding us and decided to get back. The boy went out from the dark. ¡°Why do you bully, naughty boy?¡± I asked. He stared at me and said, ¡°I''ve name, you strut-noddy! It¡¯s Adrian, you may call me that cause I love it best.¡± ¡°Adrian the snot-nose,¡± I giggled. ¡°Then what are you, eyh? Aahh, I know, you¡¯re a tiny little mouse.¡± I saw a teacher teaching his pupils at the other building then I interfered to ask Adrian a question about the school. ¡°The school is so vile and vicious! The teachers are wicked and evil like murderers,¡± he explained while we walked along the silent road. ¡°Why? Aren¡¯t school marvelous? I heard from Dr Stefen that ls is great.¡±A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. ¡°Are the opposite. Once, I was late for school, then, the headmaster slashed my hands six times with a thin cane in front of 300 students and he also inserted my name in the disgrace and punishment book. I dare not tell this to my parents but they found out soon after they saw marks on my fingers.¡± ¡°At least it could help you to behave properly at school.¡± ¡°Tell me, what do you really know about school?¡± I told him about what Doctor Stefen had told me the other day when he nursed me. Adrian seemed to reject every word I spoke. He took Emerald and held her in his arms. ¡°I just wanted to experience friendship. He told me that school could change your lonely life.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t go to school nowadays but I¡¯ve a young governess which my father hired to teach me but I dislike her so I pissed her oftenly. She dislikes my attitude and reports this immediately. She annoyed me then I ran away from home. My guards are probably searching for me now." "You naughty! If I were you, I would just accept her and admired her as a friend." "Why do you need friends?¡± ¡°I¡¯d nobody since mother had passed away of cholera.¡± ¡°Sorry to hear that. How old are you?¡± ¡°Four,¡± ¡°You¡¯re too young to live outside the wildlife! Why don¡¯t we become friends so we could share thoughts together.¡± I nodded guaranteeing him as my acquaintance. We play ¡®Geordie Bowling¡¯ using two old balls we found in the piles of trash. We set 100 metres for the distance then start throwing the old balls. Adrian won the game because he threw his ball only five times while I threw mine many times in the hundred distance. Then we played Up the Buttons and hopscotch. I really enjoyed the day playing with him. We sat on grass by the riverbank and watched the fishes swimming in it. I was so excited to play with him. We acknowledged each other and from this I know that he is 3 years older than me. ¡°What do you wish for when you grow up, Emily?¡± Adrian asked while staring at the sun setting. ¡°I want to be rich,¡± I answered directly. ¡°Why? Rich¡¯s life is miserable and vicious, I dislike them for claiming the poor as servants.¡± ¡°I know but I want to fix mother¡¯s grave and buried her body properly and help the poor people and tell the world that the rich should thanks the poor for working for them.¡± Adrian said nothing but smiled. "I want to be a doctor." "So you could help them," "Absolutely!" Later, as the day grew darker, I was ready to bid farewell to Adrian but he wasn''t satisfied that he followed me to where I usually sleep. I told him that I used to sleep under the bridge but his stubbornness forced me to sleep for the night with him. Emerald slept with us too. We cuddled ourselves together as the night got colder. He was so warm that it made my sleep comfortable. The next day, as the sun had rose, I found out that I was sleeping alone under the bridge. Later, I saw Adrian coming towards me with a delicious warm bread in his hands then lent the other to me for breakfast. We ate it together. I stared at him then he stared at me back. ¡°What?! You think that I stole them? I exchanged my silver ring for pounds and bought them with it.¡± I laughed then he smiled. As we¡¯d finished our breakfast, we moved away and found jobs to provide money. We found a home where they offered us work and agreed to offer us some food as a payment. Adrian cleaned the house while I swept the chimney then helped him to wash the dishes. After we¡¯d finished our work, the master of the house offered us some delicious cakes and warm milk. I never tasted cake before and it tasted great! Later, we thanked the master then left the house. He¡¯d give us a shilling each as an extra payment. Chapter 4: Unpredictable Division Adrian and I sat by the riverbank and enjoyed watching the golden-orange sky as the sun was setting. We stayed there till evening. We lied on the grass and watched billions of stars twinkling and the presence of the moon at the centre lit the sky. ¡°Emily, look,¡± he pointed at the stars with his skeleton finger, which I¡¯d no idea what it said,. ¡°you see that, if you just connect the stars with imaginary lines, it¡¯s the Sagittarius stars.¡± ¡°Where?¡± He leaned closer to me then used my finger to point out the stars that he mentioned. ¡°What does it tell?¡± I asked. ¡°It¡¯s Sagittarius and it is almost December. Oh how I wish for winter tomorrow, I want to play with the snow.¡± ¡°I dislike winter, it could froze me to death.¡± ¡°Well, the poor might say that because they couldn¡¯t afford to buy coals for making fires and buy thick winter coat.¡± The night got colder and it forced me to sit closer to him and hugged him. We felt very cold that we huddled together. We moved under the bridge to where I usually sleep and slept there for the night. The next day, the sun had already risen but the day seemed gloomy. The clouds were grey and very dark soon it was raining. I sheltered myself under the bridge, hugging my small body. Adrian wasn¡¯t back yet I wonder where he was but Emerald was beside me. I hugged myself as the rainy day grew colder and I couldn¡¯t bear it. Soon, I saw Adrian run towards me looking very wet and shivering. His face was pale and frightened. ¡°What happen?¡± I asked. ¡°We need to move!¡± was the answer. He grabbed my hand then we ran away together with Emerald. He didn¡¯t answer my question yet but brought me away running to the unknown. He brought me to the railway station and paid for two second class tickets for us. I asked him again but he didn¡¯t interfere. Our clothes were wet and I felt very cold. As we entered the train it was ready to leave. I could hear the sound of the locomotive hissing then it moved. We went to another unknown place. ¡°Where are we going and what happen?¡± I asked for the third time. He stared outside the window and held Emerald in his hand. ¡°After I¡¯d bought the bread before, my guards found me and chased me. They ordered me to go back to the manor but I refused to go back. We¡¯re going to the outskirts of London, they won¡¯t find me there.¡±This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings. I was surprised when I heard the news. I wasn¡¯t ready to say goodbye to him yet but fortunately he was still there with me. He then gave me a thick red thread with a pendant hanging on it and it happened to be his shilling with hole. He told me that was the symbol of our friendship since he also owned one and told me that even if we didn¡¯t remember each other, the necklace would be the reminder of our old moments. After many hours had passed, we went to an unknown village. I followed Adrian because the village was foreign to me. He told me that he once went there two years ago and still remembers the place. The village was beautiful and clean. The sun shone beautifully and the land was green and very quiet, lesser carriages unlike London. The people were mostly commoners and poor and they worked for factories and fields. The people knew Adrian well that they treat him like a Lord. It was time for lunch then an old man invited me and Adrian to have lunch with them. He approached as in a friendly manner. We sat in the small dining hall in the chapel. The old man was a clergyman. A sister wearing black dress and black veil appeared and brought in some hot porridge for us and she was called Sister Hanna. There were also some children of my age and Adrian¡¯s came in. ¡°Lord Adrian!¡± exclaimed one of the girls. She sat beside Adrian and had a happy chit-chat with him. ¡°I¡¯m very glad to see your arrival, Lord Adrian,¡± told the clergyman. ¡°How was Aurora?¡± ¡°There she is,¡± Adrian pointed Emerald. ¡°Oh, she¡¯s still well and healthy. You really love her and you spoil her a lot. Speaking of which, who¡¯s the little girl you came along with?¡± ¡°Oh, this,¡± he stood then introduced me, ¡°her name is Emily Lavender, and she¡¯s an orphan too.¡± He smiled at me. ¡°She was lovely. Would you like to stay, young miss?¡± the clergyman asked me. ¡°I wish too if I¡¯m invited,¡± I answered. The clergyman looked happy to see us joining them for lunch. After lunch, we went to the garden and helped the children to look after them. We played games like Crack the Whip, What¡¯s the Time Mr Wolf and many more. I enjoyed playing with them and Adrian too. The children and the chapel had brought happiness to me and I thought that It was a perfect place for me to stay but not until tomorrow. The next day, I got dressed early in the morning. Outside it was still misty and the sun hadn¡¯t risen yet. Later, when the sun had risen, the priest had said the prayer and we read bibles early in the morning when the children had all woke up. We then had our breakfast which had been prepared by Sister Hanna. She was a beautiful young lady who taught us for lessons. As the day turned noon, I saw three black carriages with four horses dragging each carriage outside. The carriages were highly fashionable and ought to belong to a mighty family, the nobles. A majestic looking man with black coat with fur collar around his neck holding a wooden cane with golden handle stepped out of the first black carriage. Then another red dressed woman looking mighty and ego followed him. Some guards escorted them from behind. I was inside the house with the other children and Sister Hanna was having our sewing lesson. Adrian looked so frightened and I could see his eyes burning in anger. The black coat man and the red dress woman entered the chapel. The clergyman looked so frightened but was trying his best to welcome them warmly. ¡°Our arrival ought not to be welcome warmly since we attended to pick up our son,¡± said the tall black man with a deep voice. He fixed his tall head and then began to talk. ¡°It¡¯s time to go home, son.¡± he spoke slowly, lending his hand to Adrian. ¡°I won¡¯t! You¡¯re vile and wicked! I don¡¯t want to go home, I want to stay.¡± ¡°You shall not speak that way to the elder! You¡¯re my only son and are very important to the family.¡± ¡°Just leave me be! I hate you for the rest of my life!¡± ¡°I never taught my children to misbehave! You are failed to be what you are ought to be!¡± ¡°Emily, we¡¯re leaving,¡± Adrian went to me and grabbed my hand. ¡°So, this girl is involved in your reason. She ought to be vanished from my sight! You dare not to let me repeat my words.¡± ¡°Yes, I dare.¡± The man finally reached his climax then slapped Adrian on the face. Adrian fell with deep feelings of misery and anger. He held his tears for a while and dared not to cry and showed his father that he was strong. I felt very surprised that Adrian¡¯s father was so cold and wicked. I had the feeling of not wanting to let him go but I daren¡¯t to speak. The man took Adrian¡¯s hand and ordered him to enter the carriage. ¡°You¡¯re dirty, let¡¯s go home or your dear friend¡¯s cold body will lay in your room.¡± Adrian didn¡¯t want to see me being hurt, without other choices he followed his father without looking back. Since that day, I had never seen Adrian again. Chapter 5: Cecil Adrian Adrian was sitting against the large window in the library reading a book. He felt miserable after what his father had done to him a week ago. He was hoping of meeting me again, soon and had another plan to escape from the house and met me in the church. His governess, who was called Julia, entered the library and ordered him to pay great attention during her lesson. Adrian scribbled a figure of a witch, who was mad him like a devil, on a piece of white paper. ¡°Lord Cecil Adrian! Pay attention! Your father will send you to school if you pay no attention in my lessons!¡± the governess screamed with sympathy. Adrian ignored her. Adrian aimed his eyes at the romanian-numbered grandfather clock, which was hanging on the plain wall before he was born, as it struck twelve. The pendulum then oscillated and tolled with a lower tone beat. Adrian was delivered to the dining room to have lunch. On the dining table, high class meat with orange juice was served for lunch. His father and mother and his other sisters joined the meal. Adrian had no appetite since then which had made him appear thinner and sick. His father saw his behavior. ¡°Cecil, you need nutrients and stay healthy to strengthen your memories for your lessons,¡± told his father. ¡°Cecil, listen to what papa says,¡± his eldest sister, Eclair added, then continued feeding. ¡°Papa, it¡¯s much useless to speak to him now when he¡¯s a moody old lion!¡± added Charlotte, his second elder sister. ¡°Am not!¡± Adrian screamed. Adrian drank his orange juice impetuously then left the table earlier before his father did. ¡°Cecil! You''ll be punished for misbehaving!¡± warned his father then turned silent. Adrian went to the garden in the backyard of the manor. He was guarded by some guards to avoid him leaving the manor again. The clouds were dark and grey but the sun hid behind them making them gleamed. Adrian plucked some red roses from the bushes then took out the shilling pendant from inside his coat. He stared at it for a long time and only thought of me because I was his first friend he ever made. He sat in the gazebo and stared upon a couple of brightly green and blue coloured butterflies floating above the blue roses. Emerald came and meowed.Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°Aurora, we''ll meet her again as soon as I''ve made an escape plan mission again,¡± he patted Emerald¡¯s head. An old lady later approached him and asked him about his frustration. ¡°I¡¯d a little girl friend who I admired the most and I stayed the night with her with Aurora. I wanted to meet her but father denied our meeting. He wanted us to be parted away so I would feel frustrated because I couldn¡¯t meet her. She probably misses me,¡± Adrian cried. ¡°You worry too much, My Lord. The young lady might be finding for you too but I¡¯m sure, as soon as your father had cool down, he''ll permitted your wishes.¡± ¡°Thank you, Mrs Fairlake.¡± Adrian watched the gleaming-coloured red flower in his hand then hand it to Mrs Fairlake. He smiled at her then ran into the manor. Mrs Fairlake smiled then continued her unfinished works. She was the person who looked after the garden and had been working with the family for more than 40 years. Adrian went to the library and smiled. He thought of something big and hoped that his father would forgive him and let him go. He opened a thick dark brown book which he¡¯d taken from the shelf. It was a fairytale book, snow white. He loved that book too much which had made him read it more than twice a day. He turned the pages and read it very carefully. In all of a sudden, his governess entered and ordered him to read the book in her hand which had been written in French. Adrian loved to learn French but his governess existence had torn his spirits. He took the book and read it. When his governess went away to take some water, Adrian tossed the book away and escaped his class. He went to the garden again and asked for advice from Mrs Fairlake. ¡°My Lord, you should go back for classes. You don¡¯t want to hear any nasty commotion from your parents.¡± told Mrs Fairlake. ¡°She annoyed me all the time! I just don¡¯t know how to get her to know that I need replacement of new governess. She treated me like a prisoner.¡± Mrs Fairlake smiled and stopped her work. ¡°My Lord, look at those flowers, they bloom with many different meanings.¡± Adrian had raised his curiosity and waited for what she was going to say. ¡°They bloom with different meanings and we think they need attention and some use it to express feelings, but the truth is, they¡¯re trying to be attractive against insects so they could reproduce more.¡± ¡°What do you mean? I¡¯ve got nothing in my head.¡± ¡°Which is she¡¯s trying her best to make you be smart with any methods she had but you thought them as evil and cruel because you never learned to accept them.¡± ¡°I¡¯d tried, many times but her ways often were rejected. I just dislike forces.¡± ¡°Then go ahead, accept her unless she did it just to get closer to your family since this family is the most powerful and ruin it, isn¡¯t it?¡± Adrian nodded then he went back to the library. Julia was there standing like a pillar with hands to the waist. Adrian apologized for his rudeness. Julia was very surprised to see him being humble then she smiled and also apologized to him for making him mad all the time. The next day, Adrian went to the chapel in Yorkshire alone neither his parents nor his servants knew the loss of him. His plan of escaping finally happened at the scene. He went to see the clergyman but was invited to have breakfast with them. ¡°What¡¯s your arrival for, My Lord?¡± asked the clergyman. ¡°I might ask of Emily, I didn¡¯t see her this morning. I wonder where she is. Is she in the garden with the others?¡± The clergyman looked very disappointed to answer his question and knew that the answer would hurt the poor boy''s feelings. ¡°Forgive me My Lord, I know that my answer will only bring ache to your heart but Miss Emily has been sent away.¡± ¡°Joking in such a short time may not be accepted, isn''t it?¡± ¡°I daren¡¯t, My Lord.¡± The clergyman was so serious that it had brought sorrow to his heart. Adrian almost cried in tears but he didn''t dare to do it. He asked, ¡°where is she now?¡± ¡°I wish I could tell you where she is but my guts are limited, I couldn¡¯t tell where she is now. Nobody knew who sent her and I only knew that a black tall foreign man came here last week and demanded to take Miss Emily away with him. He acknowledged himself as her real father.¡± Adrian high spirited had faded. He suddenly cried of frustration and disappointment. Then he swore to God that he would search for Emily till the end of the world.
