《Among The Shadows》 Prologue (Introduction) As she stared into his dark eyes, he could see it, her final breath was coming any moment. A heave of the chest, fluttering eyelids, and an acceptance of what was coming. In that moment it was as if they''d known eachother their whole lives as strange as it may seem. He rest his hand upon her eyelids as the light left her eyes and he closed them ever so softly. After a moment of silence he saw her again, but this time not as an elderly dying woman. No, now in her step was the spryness of a young girl who had turned back the clock. With a smile he called to her, " It''s time for you to go home." She responded quizically " What do you mean, where''s home?" It was always like this, they never questioned anything else about the situation except for where they were going, yet never why they were going. After the journey and returning such a kind spirit to her family who had missed her greatly, while they rest of her family wept for her loss he decided he needed some time to himself. "Have someone else fill in for me for a few days." He told a secretary as he passed by. It was finally time for a vacation that he much deserved. Dark wings spread from his shoulders black as a starless sky, he was heading for earth to walk amongst the living and enjoy things that most of his acquauintances thought foolish. First things first though he had to make a pit stop to his other "Place of Employ" they would probably want to know about his vacation. This story originates from Royal Road. A greeting came as he passed by a desk "Welcome back sir, we weren''t expecting any new arrivals today though!" The secretary said excitedly while skimming her planner, " I''m here to give my vacation notice to your boss, could you pass it on" He asked with a forced smile as some low-level employees walked past him eyeing him up and down. "Of course, and don''t mind them they''re new, they haven''t seen anyone of your kind before." With that he turned and left hurriedly ready to make his way out of this drab office space. On his way out he noticed the new sign, First Level Hell, with a frown he walked out and unfurled his wings for his ascent. It took only an hour for him to reach the gateway that bridged the underworld and earth, just as he crossed the blackened robes adorning his body shifted into black dress slack, a dark maroon dreshshirt made of silk, and a pair of black leather dress shoes. If you wanted to walk the earth it wouldn''t make much sense to walk around as if though you were some lunatic cultist, usually on his business calls he couldn''t be seen by any other than those he was there to visit. He finally crossed the threshold and found himself in the sky looking down at a small city, landing in an alley he tucked his wings inside of himself and made for the street. This was how death came to finally walk the earth.
