《Speed Build》 Chapter 1 It was just a normal day, I''m laying on my bed after getting done with a particularly long run. I may not be that strong physically, but all my life I''ve been a runner. It''s just felt right to me, why walk when you can get there faster by running. That''s always been something I focus on, speed. Whether it''s running or gaming, I always have to get there first. Yes I''m a gamer, a big one too. I guess you could call me a "nerd", just one who runs. Whether D''n''D or PC, I just like to play games. I enjoy maximising my characters strengths and strengthening their weaknesses. I always have to be the best. I''m not a perfectionist though, I just enjoy beating others at games. If you lose then good for me, if you beat me then cool, I''ll just try harder next time. Getting off my bed I look into the mirror on my door. I see a kid, about five and a half feet tall. He''s not good looking but not ugly either, his hair is black and short, his eyes a silvery blue. Those have allways been my favorite thing about me, I''ve had people complement me on them quite often. Some say it''s as if I''m staring right through them. I''m not, my eyes might look cool but that''s all that''s special about them.My running helps me stay in decent shape, so I''m not fat, but I''m not like those guys at school that weightlift 24/7. "Max, dinner!" I hear mom shout from downstairs. I head to the dinning room and smell the meatloaf. Mom, Dad, and Lily are already seated. I grab some and sit in the empty seat. "So how was your day?" Dad asks, not really directing it at anyone. Dad works as a writer, so he''s always a bit unfocused. Always halfway focusing on how his next story will go. He''s a bit out of shape, sitting at a desk typing all day doesn''t really count as exercise. He''s where I got my black hair from. "It was fine dear" My mother replies. I got my eyes from her. Mom isa secretary for some big lawfirm, but her hours aren''t that much. She has to take care of Lily after all.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. Lily is my little sister. She turned 5 a few months back. She has the same hair and eye color as I do, and she is adorable. After eating dinner I put away my dishes and head up to my room. As I close the door something strange happens, a screen appears in my vision. Warning Your world is about to be summoned, in one minute you and all things on you will be transported to another world and placed randomly on the new world. In order to not be seperated from friends and family, make sure to be in contact with then when the time runs out. Time Remaining: 0:25 After reading that last bit I rush downstairs to where my family is. If this is fake then no big deal, but if it really happens then I don''t want to be separated from them. 0:15 As I reach halfway down the stairs I trip and fall the rest of the way, I''m not hurt but I am dazed. 0:10 I get up and try to run over to them, but I can''t balance well at the moment. 0:5 I can see them, they''re huddled together. 0:4 I rush towards them, arm reaching. 0:3 Mom is reaching too. 0:2 Lily is crying. 0:1 Almost... 0:0 A flash of light... Chapter 2 As my sight comes back to me after that flash, I find that I''m not at home anymore. I guess that screen was telling the truth, that or I''ve gone insane. I''m going to assume that I''m not insane, for no reason other than I don''t think I am. I look around to get my bearings, and I don''t like what I see one bit. I''m in what seems to be a forrest. I can hear birds chirping and bugs buzzing around me. I would look around more if another screen didn''t appear in front of my eyes. Welcome! As you may have noticed, you are in a new world! That or you are dead, but as the placement of summoned is entirely based on ones luck, you only have yourself to blame! Now for those of you still alive, congrats! You had at least enough luck not to die right of the bat, but you are not safe yet! As such, a quick tutorial will be given. Please think of the word ''Status'' while imagining a screen appearing. I feel a chill as I realise that I could have been placed somewhere bad, like a volcanoe or the middle of the ocean. I hope my family is safe. But I guess the only thing I can do is listen to this strange screen. I do as it says and somehow it works. Max Summers Race: Human/??? Traits: Speedy (Bloodline) Okay, something is definitely not right here. As far as I know I am 100% human, but I guess these screens disagree. Another thing that confuses me is this trait ''Speedy''. Maybe the tutorial will expl- That concludes the tutorial, good luck! -ain... or not. This whole situation reminds me of those stories I read. Summoned to another world, strange screens, stats. In some of those stories, one just has to focus on something to learn more about it. Let''s see what I can find out about this trait. Speedy (Bloodline): Every 5 points in agility above average adds 1 point in all other stats. This is pretty OP if this world works like I think. Based on the level I see I can assume leveling gives a certain amount of points. That means that when I should have 5 points instead I would get a total of 11, if I put the five into agility. But hold up, I don''t even know how this world''s idea of strenght works. This could be an average or even weak trait. I can''t get my hopes up. First I should try this focusing thing on the other parts of my status. Nothing, it didn''t work. Not on my race, or on my stats, nothing. I guess it only works on traits. But now I need to figure out what I''m going to do now, and how to close these screens. As if responding to my thoughts, which they probably are, all the screens close. It seems it''s as easy as thinking. As I saw previously I''m in a forrest, and if videogames and books have taught me anything, it''s that there are monsters in the forrest. I need to find some form of shelter, and fast, as the sun is slowly dropping. As soon as I think that a loud roar sounds in the distance. I don''t think I''ve ever climbed a tree that fast before in my life. Hopefully whatever that was, it can''t climb. I stay up there for a while, with the ocasional roar keeping me from going down. The sun set awhile ago, and I''m beggining to tire. I have a feeling that it will be a sleepless night. Chapter 3 I was right, I didn''t get any sleep during the night. Especially not after I saw the beast. It was a wolf, a big one. I mean about twice the size of an average wolf, and it''s fur blended in great with the surroundings. I wouldn''t have noticed it if not for the bushes next to it rustling. Luckly it''s day now and there doesn''t seem to be a trace of any big creatures. I''m beggining to become hungry and I can see some berries on a bush nearby, hopefully they''re edible. I slowly climb down the tree, careful not to alert any predators lurking around. As my feet touch the ground nothing happens, seems I''m safe. I get to the bush without being attacked and gather as many berries as I can into my pockets and head back to my safety tree. When I''m about to climb up something catches my eye, a glint of something under some fallen branches. I move the foliage out of the way and am suprised to see an old dagger. It''s not clean by any streatch, it''s rusty, dull, and chipped. It is, however, better than any protection I could probably scrounge up out here. This can help if anything like that wolf attacks. Though if something like that happens I''ll probably still die immediately, but for something small this could help. I climb up the tree and finish my very succesful forraging trip. My stomach grumbles and I eat a handful of the berries I got. They aren''t good, quite sour, but I don''t really have the right to be pickey. At least they help with the hunger. I start thinking about my situation. I''m in annother world, alone. There are dangerous creatures around and all I have to protect myself is an old used dagger. And there is a gamelike screen telling me my stats and level. I can''t do anything about the first, but I think I might be able to use the third to solve the second. If I have a level then all I have to do is get experience, get stronger, and get out of here. Now I''m sure killing that wolf would give tons of exp but I can''t do that, so I should settle into the bane of gamers everywhere, grinding. With that in mind I grab my dagger and once again climb down the tree, this time looking for prey. I find some in the form of small foxes, not baby foxes, but actual miniature foxes. I can tell by the fact that they have baby mini foxes, which are absolutely tiny. I wait for one of the adults to venture out of the den and come towards me. I grip my weapon even tighter in my hand, and when it gets close, I strike. The creature yips as my dagger cuts into it, and I almost gag right then and there, but I hold it in. Soon the struggles die down I officially become a killer, it sickens me. But something deep down, something dark, is pleased, it scares me. However I can''t give it to much thought as a white wisp comes off of my victim and flows into me. You have killed Lv 1 Mini FoxThis story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. That''s it, that''s all the screen tells me. It didn''t even tell me how much exp I got, but I can kind of tell. That wisp was the expirience, I just know it. I can even tell that I''m a bit closer to... something. I assume that is me leveling up. I have to continue, even if the thought of doing so makes me gag. I need to be stronger to survive here, and that means I need exp. So, gripping my now bloody dagger, I go back to the hunt.
You have killed Lv 1 Mini Fox Congrats, you are now Lv 2! I did it, I wiped out the whole den. Even the babies, I didn''t want to but they attacked me, and I had no other choice. But at least I got a level out of it, god I feel like a monster. Maybe the race shown on screen was right, I''m not really human. That would explain that dark part of me that is happy with what I did. I head back to my tree, dagger in hand, and climb up. Once there I open my status to see what''s changed. Well now what? How do I put the points into a stat, maybe it''s just like opening and closing the screens. Welp, here goes. ''Add 5 to agility''. As soon as the points go in my whole body feels like it''s floating. I can feel the white exp mist from earlier changing my body from the inside. My senses grow stronger, my thoughts clearer, and my body stronger and tougher. But the biggest change is that I can feel the control over my body increasing, like I can react faster and move smoother. Soon the mist is gone, all used up. I check my stats. But the night is here and the beasts prowl, so I decide to rest. I''ll continue my grinding tommorow. Chapter 4 It''s been a week since I''ve appeared in this world, and things are starting to look up. I leveled up twice after my slaughter of mini foxes, and I''ve started to get used to what I have to do. It''s not like I enjoy doing it... well that''s not entirely true. That dark part of me is definitely enjoying this, even if the main part of me isn''t. I just know that it has something to do with my race, which honestly makes it worse. If it was something influencing me then that would mean I can stop it, but it is part of me. Luckily I''ve learned how to suppress it, sort of. It''s more of ignoring it untill it stops bugging me, and I know that can''t be good for my mental health but I don''t know what else to do. Once again I check my status just to see if anything changed, I know it probably hasn''t but there is always hope. Max Summers Race: Human/??? Lv: 4 HP: 100/100 MP: 110/110 STA: 110/110 STR: 10 CON: 10 END: 11 AGI: 25 PER: 12 INT: 11 WIS: 11 Traits: Speedy (Bloodline) I must say that I feel good with my high stats, especially my agility. Since 10 is the average for a human, that means I am two and a half times the speed of a normal person. I''m starting to think that this trait of mine is really as OP as it seems, if this is the norm then high leveled people would be like gods. I''ve only been here a week and I''m already level four, imagine what I would be like if I grew up here. This doesn''t mean I''m some kind of apex predator here, I once witnessed the mega wolf, as I''ve started calling it, take down some kind of boar creature that was twice its height. The mega wolf attacked so fast that I couldn''t even see it move, just a blur. The next thing I knew the boar was dead, and the beast dragged it away to what I assume is it''s home. Safe to say I have a long ways to go before I can even consider attacking it. There is one place that I think I can get stronger at. It''s what I can only describe as a goblin lair. That''s right, goblins, short, ugly, green skinned goblins. Now, normally I wouldn''t even consider killing something that could be sentient, but from what I''ve seen of them, they are nothing more than beasts. They hunt down smaller creatures with rocks and sharp sticks and eat them right there. They even eat eachother, I will say I vomited after seeing that. This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it. What makes them simpler to kill is the fact that they hunt alone, which makes them easier to pick off. I''m not stupid enough to run headlong into the cave, especially because there are most likely stronger ones in there. I head down my tree, dagger in hand, and head toward the lair. Similar to the foxes I wait for one to head out, but this time I follow it further into the woods. I don''t want our fight to atract more of them, I''m not that confidant as to handling a group. As the goblin slows down I wait in the bushes nearby, my high agility makes sneaking much easier. The goblin, however, sniffs the air and turns towards me, seems he has a pretty good sense of smell. Not giving it time to react I jump out of the bush, aiming my weapon at its throat. It dodges at the last second, but still gets a small cut. This seems to anger it, as it growls and charges at me, rock held high. It''s faster than I expect, not as fast as me, but fast nonetheless. I dodge, but it suprises me, it throws the rock. I don''t have time to react and the rock hits me in the stomach, and it hurts. This is the first time I''ve been hit like this and to be honest, I got a little scared. As the goblin ran at me, my fight or flight response kicks in. Instead of running, I wait until the creature jumps at me, and using all my speed, raise the dagger to it''s chest and push. The goblin falls on top of me, and I will say I paniced a bit, but after a second it didn''t move, so I pushed it off me. My dagger had gone strait through the heart, killing it instantly. Soon, the white experience flowed off of it and into me. It was alot more than I have previously gotten, and I feel I''m about halfway to level five. I check my status to see how much health that rock took. Max Summers Race: Human/??? It takes me a few minutes to get back to my tree, and I''m feeling a bit better, I am not healed by any streatch, but I did recover a few bits of health. I''ve also noticed my stamina seems to regen at about one point per minute, though I''m not sure what determines that. I rest my head against the bark of my safety tree and start to drift off to sleep. Hopefully I''ll be in better shape tommorow. Chapter 5 Inside the goblin cave. A large goblin sits on a throne made of rocks, his eyes sharp. He is contemplating his next move against the other lairs in the forrest. He is a rarity among goblin kind, smarter, stronger, and faster than the average goblin. Especially the grunts, the drone class goblins. They are what most goblins are born as, nothing more than animals in goblin form. They are often sent to hunt small game for the lair so that the smarter ones don''t have to focus on food. The goblin leader is brought out of his thoughts as another goblin runs into the hall, it is one of the overseers, and he seems panicked. "My lord, something is killing of the grunts!" The smaller goblin shouts. "I don''t see the problem, one or two grunts is nothing to us." The leader says, confused as to why such a small matter is brought to his attention. "Sir, whatever it is has killed over ten grunts already! And the way it hunts is similar to the Forrest King!" This made the goblin leaders blood run cold, while ten grunts is a semi large number, it is nothing they can''t handle. But the Forrest King is something else entirely, it is a beast that none can stop. It is by far the fastest, strongest, and most cunning being in the forrest. This is what scared the leader the most. "Are you absolutly sure it is the King? Or just something that acts like it?" He had to be sure, and he was starting to doubt that it was the King. If the King wanted to hunt goblins, it would be well within its power to walk right into the cave and slaughter them all. "Not entirely Sir, I do recall finding some goblin blood on the ground." That proves it, the King of the Forrest doesn''t leave any trace of it''s victims except for the damage to the surroundings. "Take a squad of warriors and take down this threat, I am certain it is not the King." "Yes Sir, right away" And with that, the overseer left the hall. "A being that hunts like the King?" The goblin leader mumbled to himself. "No matter, it will be taken care of soon."
I recently hit level seven from killing goblins, and with it I have gotten even faster. Sometimes I can''t even believe my own speed, I am now four times faster than the average human. I may be faster than them, but they still have the advantage in pure strength. Luckily I have gotten better at both dodging and using my dagger to attack. I still sometimes get hit, and it still hurts, but with my increased health it does less overall damage. I still feel a little bad killing things, but I understand that it''s necessary. I have gotten even better at suppressing my darker side, it seems to have calmed down a bit as well. That kind of disturbs me more than when it tries to break free, it''s like it''s waiting for something, like an opportunity. I hear a rustling in the bushes nearby, seems my next target is here. I grip my dagger tightly, ready to attack the goblin when it comes through. When I see it''s green skin I lunge at it, aiming my dagger at it''s heart. It supprises my though as it rolls out of the way, even as I see my speed supprised it. As it dodges I feel something slam into my back with a lot of force. As I land I turn around to see a group of goblins, all bigger than the normal ones, holding clubs and wearing what looks like leather armour. They are lead by a goblin at least a foot taller than the others. He seems to be the leader and he sneers (or at least what looks like one on a goblin) at me. He makes a bunch of barking and growling sounds at me, I think he is trying to speak to me. But still they attacked me, and though I did start it, I am also going to defend myself. I charge at the closest goblin, the one who hit me. As I slash I manage to hit him with my dagger, drawing some blood, but not as much as I hoped. That armour is pretty annoying when you are trying to kill something. The injured goblin swings its club at me, and even though I dodged it managed to clip me. With worry I look at my health. HP: 67/130 That is insane! How strong are these things that two hits already has me down to near half health!? With that in mind I book it, using my speed to get out of there. That is at least one thing I have over these goblins, my agility is higher. I almost feel safe when a seering pain lashes from my back, it seems one of the goblins threw something at me. I don''t know which one but it hit much stronger than any other attack. Hp: 1/130 Who would have thought that I die to a rock throwing goblin, my vision starts to blur. I will never see my family again, Mom, Dad, Lily. I''m sorry, I wasn''t fast enough. With that, my vision fades, and all I hear is a growling voice. Don''t worry, I will make them pay. Now it is time for you to rest. Chapter 6 ''What was that thing, that was no human'' The goblin overseer Sharak thought to himself, limping away from the clearing. He had been heavily injured by that... Thing. His thoughts returned once again to the battle that had seemed simple. ''Oh how wrong we were''
''This is the thing we thought was the King? It''s just a puny human.'' Sharak was suprised, while he had never personally seen a human before, the Chieftain told stories. He said that while humans were dangerous in numbers, no groups ever made it this far into the forrest. The ones who did were all weak and lost, making them easy prey. Still, he did not become overseer by underestimating his enemies. Sharak had his squad surround the human in stealth. He then had one of them walk out of the bush, grabing the humans attention. The young human lunged at the warrior with supprising speed, luckily the warrior was well trained and dodged in time. The human seems suprised at the dodge, what did he think the warrior was going to stand there and take it? Sharak and the rest of them step out of the clearing. The overseer sneers at the fast human, "You thought your killing would go unnoticed?" The human clearly didn''t understand, and attacked the warrior who dodged him earlier. Suprisingly he hit, but the worn dagger only drew a small amount of blood. The warrior then attacked, swinging his club, heavily injuring the human. The weakling decided to run, and used his suprising speed to escape. However, he was stopped by a simple rock thrown by Sharak. ''A simple human thought he could beat a well trained goblin squad while he had no fighting skill? Pathetic.'' Suddenly the body stirred, and a low groweling could be heard from it. ''Oh, it''s alive?'' Sharak wasn''t afraid in the least. He should have been.If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. The sound of cracking bones soon filled the air, and the body started to change. Claws sprouted from its hands, black catlike ears grew from its head, and a long cat tail came from the base of its spine breaking through its pants. ''Wha- What is this?!'' Sharak thought suprised, he had never heard of humans growing animal features like this. What was even more suprising was that it seemed to be healing rapidly. The body slowly got to its feet, and the groweling grew louder as it glared at them. Its eyes. ''Oh god its eyes'' The whites were replaced by pitch black, and the catlike pupil was a glowing silver. The beast took no time as it pounced on the slightly injured warrior, its claws tearing away the armour like it wasn''t there. One of the closer goblins tried to save their comrade and attacked the creature, which dodged effortlessly. It moved gracefully, and sliced the throat of the attacker, killing him instantly. Just like that, two warriors died, they couldn''t even fight back. Sharak knew he couldn''t win this battle, so, like the coward he really was, he ran. The dying screams of his squad echoed behind him as he tried to get as far away from that beast as possible. Soon the screams stopped, and he didn''t think it was because the beast was killed. Suddenly claws ripped apart his back, but when he turned, there was nothing there.
''I did it, I escaped.'' Sharak breathed a sigh of relief, then he heard a rustling and his blood ran cold. He now realized that he never got away, the beast was toying with him, and it wouldn''t be long until it got bored and ended him. Suddenly he began to chuckle at his misfortune, and the chuckle turned into a full blown laugh. Tears ran down his face as his mind broke under the pressure. The laughing was abruptly cut off as the beast grew tired of the noise and attacked. The echos soon turned silent as the last goblin in the squad was cut down. The beast soon found a suitable place to lie down and rest, its belly was full of goblin meat from the first few victims. Sleep soon claimed it as the smaller critters began to come out of the brush, enticed by the smell of fresh meat.
