《Human》 Chapter One As the sun tucked behind the clouds, leaves consisting of gold and copper waved in the wind before falling from the branches and collecting on the ground in a pile. Ivy was creeping up the walls, stopping in fear at the trails of smoke billowing from the chimney, filling the air with the familiar scent of smouldering ash and burning. Her outstretched fingers struck against the Ivy.Mia raised herself from the ground and closed the window, twisting the latch into place. The diamonds twinkled against the ceiling high above her, supplemented by the crescent moon taking form between her lips. The chandelier reflected the light, emphasising the golden waterfall spanning her back. Her eyes are paragons of the clearest skies. The wooden stairs spoke underfoot, her hand guided itself towards the idle switch upon the wall. Walking towards the kitchen door she peered around. She felt a presence. She didn''t feel alone. Entering the kitchen, something captured her attention. It was like somebody was standing with her, watching her. She couldn''t shake the feeling and so peered around in doubt. Suddenly, night engulfed the house, shrouding the kitchen. her stomach tightening as her eyes adjusted to the light. She slowlycrept her feet towards the wall. Upon reaching it She hit the light switch, banishing the shadows from around her. This narrative has been purloined without the author''s approval. Report any appearances on Amazon. Banging on the door alarmed her like a deer caught in headlights. She hadn''t had visitors in years now. The pounding on the door was drowned out by the wild thumping of her heart beating like it was going to jump from her chest. The familiar weight of tears rested upon her cheeks.Mia guided herself into the hallway. She felt cold, staring at the door. Her imagination running wild as to who could be on the other side. Another tear rolled down her cheek, and as she wiped it away on her sleeve She tried to steady her heartbeat. She locked her lips together, fearing that any utterance might alert whoever was stood opposite her on the other side of the door. Her feet froze in place. Her hands grew stiff as she took quick breaths. Her eyes became fixated directly in front of her. She reached out for the door handle. Slowly placing her fingers around it she twisted her wrist releasing the lock on the door.Pulling her arm back, the door swung open. Her eyes met those opposite her. Her eyes widening, She could feel her heart beating, her blood flowing, the fear pulsing through her veins. Her eyes darted to the ground before all of her sensations were lost, she was falling backwards. Everything went black. Chapter Two Her lifeless body felt movement once more.Mia hadn''t had the flashbacks for a while now. Her medication had done its job. It made her forget about the tragic event that had fallen upon her almost a year ago. For the first three months She had refused to take it. She didn''t want to forget what had happened to her. She didn''t want to forget the ones she had once loved so dearly. The scent of ash and smoke haunted her. She had always dreamt about the incident.Mia felt like She was to blame, like she could have done something. Anything... There was nothing she could have done. Fate had made its choice. As her eyes flickered open, she could her muffled voices coming from the kitchen.Mia looked around. She was still at home. A breath of comfort left her lips. But who was in her kitchen and why were they talking in hushed tones. She couldn''t make out a single word they were saying.Raising herselfinto a sitting formation on the sofa, she removed the blanket that was covering her and lifted to her feet. If she was going to find out who is here and who is talking then she knew she needed to be silent like the night, she crept slowly towards the kitchen door which had been left ajar. As she lent her back against the wall to the left of the door the voices became clearer. "She''s not stable, she can''t stay here on her own anymore" a deep voice spoke. ? It was a voice that was not to be recognised. It was a male voice. He spoke slowly; his tone was serious.Mia could tell instantly that he was not here for a friendly chat, he came with strong intentions. But what were they? "I care for her! She''s my patient! I check in on her every week to ensure that she is okay. You have no validation for taking her away"? another voice spoke.Stolen novel; please report. Realisation hit her. Doctor Martin, he had cared for her shortly after the accident. She could only remember the first few months. After that, everything is a blur. The days merged into weeks, and those weeks into months, it all became one. Forming the present, forming this very moment she was in right now. Miashuffled closer to the door, he foot tapping the potted plant in front of her gently. "What was that"? the mysterious voice asked cutting off Dr Martin mid-sentence. The voice got closer and closer to the door. For Alice, everything felt like it was moving in slow motion. "Peter, please you don''t need to do this, she''s getting better I swear"? Dr Martin spoke out suddenly. "we''ll see about that now wont we"? Peter replied taking another step towards the door. Peter grabbed the door handle and flung the door wide,Mia held her breath praying he wouldn''t step out of the kitchen. Peter exited the kitchen and stopped right in front of the door, closely followed by Dr Martin. Peter looked to his left into the shadows before swinging his head to the right. His eyes met with Mia''s. She froze. "It''s not polite to eavesdrop you know" Peter spoke slowly, his eyes locked on her. "I''m sorry"she replied her eyes dropping to her feet. Peter grabbedher by the arm and pulled her into the kitchen. His grip was tight and the force he used was aggressive. His eyes pierced her mind. It went blank. She lost all focus; her concentration had gone. Why was she listening into the kitchen? she couldn''t recall. Dr Martin pulled up a stool and pressed her shoulders down so thatMia would sit. "Peter is just here to help Mia. You have no reason to be afraid"? Dr Martin spoke out, calmly as if he was talking to a wounded child. "Now now, there''s no need to lie to the girl is there" Peter spoke back to Dr Martin raising an eyebrow as he spoke. "I suppose you''re right"? Dr Martin replied shamefully. "Now Mia, If we can''t prove that you''re okay and you haven''t yet drifted from this world then I''m afraid I''m going to have to take you away. Do you understand?" Peter was crouched in front ofMia as he spoke, his eyes locked on hers intent on showing that he was serious. Mia looked over to Dr Martin for reassurance, but he turned his head away in disgrace. He couldn''t bare to look at her. The thought of her being taken was too much. Mialooked back over to Peter. "I Understand"?she whispered softly.
