《Scroll of Spirits》 Chapter 1 The Beginning ¡°You are going to be late for the sect¡¯s entrance exam, Daniel!¡± Mr. Han yelled. Wow, I¡¯m in this entirely new world, possibly new universe, and I''m already late. Yes, you heard me right, another world, as in a different world with mystical energies, mainly qi. Qi, in this world, is a mix of spiritual, magical, and mental energy. People who use Qi are known as cultivators; cultivators use Qi to do a variety of things, such as destroying mountains with their bare hands or commanding the rivers to divert and defy gravity by making reverse waterfalls. Cultivators are divided by power into eleven ranks: (1)Qi Gatherer, (2)Qi Novice, (3)Qi Apprentice, (4)Qi Warrior, (5)Qi Expert,(6)Qi Master, (7)Qi King, (8)Qi Emperor,(9) Qi Saint,(10) Qi Titan, (11) Transmortal. They are further divided into low, medium, and high, these ranks are known as the Mortal realm ranks. When you go above the the Transmortal stage you reach the Immortal realm ranks; I personally don¡¯t know anything about those ranks because I haven¡¯t even begun to cultivate. In order to cultivate you need a manual or a teacher to teach you how to bring Qi into your body and how to move it within you to produce effects on reality. I happen to have neither. Though I am going to try to get into a place that does Now, I''m going to get into a cultivation sect known as the Dawnbreaker Sect. Sects are organizations that have a monopoly on all the good manuals, only other sects can oppose them because they have really strong and high ranked cultivators. Oh hi my name is Daniel, and I am a human from Earth. Shoot, I should have started with that. Anyway I used to be normal teenager in Anchorage, Alaska. I just happened to be at wrong place at the right time. As I was walking down my neighborhood I saw a strange violet light coming from a alleyway. I, as any curious person would do, checked out what was happening I saw some very freaky things. A dog headed man with a scroll in his hand was the thing producing the violet light. ¡°Did I just stumble upon a ritual or a broken gas pipe?¡± said Daniel. Then as the dog man turned his jackal head towards me he stopped chanting with a look of surprise on his muzzle. That when everything went south. The scroll emitted a massive amount of violet light, blinding me. Then for good measure, it exploded. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. I woke up, from being knocked out not, totally did not faint, next to a massive stone wall with almost as large iron gate in it. As I look back I think the explosion knocked me across dimensions and gave me brain damage because because one, there was a guy riding a triceratops through the gate towards me, and two, I have been awfully calm since I came here. This when my life changed forever. This when knew wasn¡¯t in Alaska anymore. I could tell because there wasn''t any snow on the ground. I now live with my adopted family in the city of Serpent¡¯s Home; this city lies within the kingdom of Salvador. King of our city is at a rank of 98 years old. Yes, you heard me, 98 years old. Everytime a cultivator breaks through to a higher rank they add 5 years of time, multiplied by their rank, to their current life span. I am the adopted son of the Hu-family-tiger, we are a family of lowly inn keepers. I was transported to this world from Earth 1 year ago when I was 15. Now at 16, I am old enough to try to get into the Dawnbreaker Sect as a janitorial or even a outer court disciple through the entrance test. My adoptive parents Mrs. Hu and Mr. Hu are regular mortals. Though, if you were to compare them to the average human of Earth you would be very surprised. While they are not cultivators of Qi through the generations, it has been sitting in their bodies making them them very healthy, 5-10% stronger, faster, and even smarter than the average mortal of Earth. The Hu family has two other sons, ages 12 and 21, and one daughter, 13. They own a inn known as ¡°The Tiger¡¯s Pride,¡± it is located in the west district of city; our city is divided into four districts, North, South, West and East; each districts having a specific purpose. The North district is where the nobles live and shop, the Southern district is where all the artisans, blacksmiths, alchemists and tailors have shops, the East district is where all the fishing and trading happens because Serpent¡¯s way river passes through it. The western district is where all the adventures and merchants lodge and sell their goods, this also where crime is the most rampant. I have been mugged three different times since I was transported here, our inn is located near the west gate. The Hu families eldest son,Tian Hu, happen¡¯s to be a guard for that gate as well. He is actually a medium Qi gatherer rank because the city guards all get a cultivation manual known as Iron¡¯s Will from the city. This cultivation manual is actually ranked to be land grade manual. Cultivation manuals and skills are also ranked in this world. They go by the following: Land, Sky, Spirit, Stellar, and Heaven, they are further divided into low, medium, and high. Now that I think about it, Tian was the one who found me outside the west gate and took me to the inn. Actually without him I would have probably¡. ¡°DANIEL! Wake up or you gonna be late to the sect¡¯s entrance exam¡± Mr. Hu exclaimed way to close to my ear. Huh what I thinking about again? Chapter 2 The Entrance Exam, Part 1(Agility Course) Late, I am going to be so late! Shoot! Why do I leave things to last minute? You would think after all the times I have been late, I would¡¯ve learned but no! I just can¡¯t seem to figure out how to wake up on time. Uh! Procrastination makes everything way easier so I can have fun before the last minute. Oh woe to be a teenager¡ In any case this year¡¯s entrance exam should be like what was on the information fliers. This year¡¯s entrance exam is split into three parts. The first part is an agility course made by the sect also known as the Sun¡¯s Path. The second part of the exam is going into the forest west of the city to collect Spirit Herbs; Spirit Herbs are plants that can cultivate. They are also graded the same as human cultivators but they are not subdivided into low, medium, and high. In order to pass this part of the exam you must find either, three rank 1 herbs, or one rank 2 herbs. The third part of the exam consists of an elimination fight. Examinees will duel one another and the one that comes out on top will become a janitorial disciple. If you can impress the Examiners or elders of the sect you can immediately become a outer court disciple. After arriving at the starting line for the agility course I saw people on carpets floating above. I knew that those must have to be the Examiners. ¡°Participants, please stand in an orderly line where the white marking is,¡± yelled one the Elder Examiners. There must have been at least three thousand participants between the ages of 20 to 16. ¡°All right for this years entrance exam anything goes as long as participants do not kill, maim, or cause serious injuries to other participants. The first thousand participants over the finish line will advance to next part of the exam,¡± the same Examiner shouted. ¡°Those are the rules, get ready to go! On your marks, get set, go!¡± I heard him yell.Stolen novel; please report. I ran at a light jog to the first obstacle, The Pillars. This part of the obstacle course consists of thousands of pillars struck into the ground a vering heights and widths. As the first ten participants slowed down near the first couple pillars they were shoved into the water surrounding the pillars by those behind them. Gradually everyone got to the start of pillars, with at least 50 participants already falling to the back of pack. Soon around 500 of the most agile participants passed the pillars and moved to the second obstacle. I was running as fast as I could trying my best to find the path the with the same height and width, even if it vered slightly off course. With this plan, I was able to become the 946th person to have finished the first part of the agility course. The second part had participants swim to a mouth of a cavern. Inside this cavern was the final part of the agility course. This part of course had people climb up a massive crystal wall to reach the finish line at the top. As the participants made their way to river, it became prevalent some participants had already made alliances to reach the cavern. The most successful of these groups were lead by the nobles of the city. All of the noble families of the city are given special advantages in the entrance exam. For small fortune, the DawnBreaker Sect, and the noble children could become outer court disciples immediately after finishing the entrance exam. As the most noble teams showed ingenuity in building small makeshift rafts to cross the slow moving river, half of all commoners and at least 75% of the merchant families, who could not afford to pay for the shortcut to outer court disciple, joined the noble teams. The rest however either made their own teams based around friends or influential commoners. Those few who crossed chose to cross the river alone swam. I happened to be one of them.
