prologue
2487, that¡¯s when the world changed. First it was the electricity, orshould I say the lack of electricity. On 2487, the 15th of April, all at once, it just stops, from the lights to the airplanes to the cars to the satellites. The death toll numbered in the billions, airplanes and cars crashed. Phones stopped, cutting the connection from the world. Preachers preached about judgement day having finally come and that we were all being punished for our sins. With all said and done, 200 years later we still don¡¯t know why it all just stopped.
After electricity stopped the monsters came. From horned bunnies to mighty behemoths hidden beneath the deep. Most the monsters came from animals evolving, wolves merging with shadows and birds calling upon thunder and lightning, sharks freezing there pray while a colony of giant bees, 6 feet long and 4 feet wide, taking up in the Eiffel tower. Then were the real monsters; slimes, goblins, orcs, centaurs and more all just appeared. In the beginning stages humans were the bottom of the food chain, we were enslaved, eaten, even turned into pets.If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Then, 3 years later, on 2490, 17 august, a man by the name of Thane Creeg discovered an energy that could bend the laws of physics and reshape the universe. Through the use of a mystical language called Runes, he harnessed the power of the universe and fought back against the monsters. He named this energy, Mana. He taught the runic language and the use of mana to all, and many people discovered and used it to fight back.
And 200 years later, 2687, 4 June, a legend is born. me Kayne Baltimar.
chapter 1
Chapter 1
¡°Mom, the walkers here. I¡¯m going to go, love you. ¡°I shout.
¡°I love you to Kayne, just remember, try your best and it¡¯ll be fine.¡± My mom shouts back in a tender voice.
Now you¡¯re probably wondering who I am. I¡¯m Kayne, a blond haired, blue eyed boy of eleven years. I¡¯m smarter than most, my mom says it¡¯s something called a constitution, everything comes to me easier, I remember everything I see or hear, 100%, its cool because I not only remember, but understand it easier as well.
Anyway, I¡¯m about to go do the beast tamers test, a test where they check if you have aptitude for taming beasts. Beast tamers are mysterious, because we¡¯re literally finding something new about them every day. There are some well-known facts about beast tamers though; first, is that you have a higher chance to be a tamer if one of your parents are one, even bigger if both are, another is that only humans can be tamers, no one knows why yet a popular theory is its to make up for the fact that humans are inferior to all other races in everything, combat, crafting, we can¡¯t even do magic.
Also, the bonds change you, sometimes just eye and hair colour, other times, you grow wings, horns, tails and even claws. And that¡¯s just your appearance, you also become stronger, faster and just, better, if one of your bonds can do magic than you have a chance of getting that skill, but it¡¯s just that, chance, sometimes you get something good other times not so much.
Put it this way, let¡¯s say you¡¯re lucky enough to tame an iron gullet boar, you, may get their iron gullet, which lets you eat literally anything organic, or you get a pig nose, or pig tail, see.
Anyway, I walk up to the walker and a guy from up on the head shouts down,¡± Are you doing the test!¡±
I reply with a respectful yes sir ¨C he is a beast tamer after all -, and he throws a rope ladder down for me to climb up.
When I reach the top, he tells me to sit down with the other 20 or so kids.
¡°Hi, I¡¯m Callum, what¡¯s your name.¡±
¡°I¡¯m Kayne,¡± I reply,¡± do you think you¡¯re going to be a beast tamer.¡±
¡°Yeah, my mom and dad are both tamers, my dad focuses on water element beasts and my mom on fire, when they fight it¡¯s so cool.¡±
¡°Really, my dad was one, he focused on wood type beasts, he died in the last war.¡±
¡°Oh, I¡¯m sorry I didn¡¯t ¡ ¡°
¡°It¡¯s chilled, not many do, ¡°I cut him off, ¡°so, what element are you going to focus on, I¡¯m going to be multi-elementalist, not focusing on any but doing all kind of thing.¡±
Forgetting his previous blunder Callum says,¡± wow, aren¡¯t those really hard to be because beasts of opposing elements fight a lot.¡±
¡°yeah, but it¡¯s also rewarding because you don¡¯t have a weaker element.¡±
¡°pfft, idiot, don¡¯t you know that most of those tamers die, if you have a dark element and bond with a light element the composing energies can completely rip you apart, same with all the elements.¡± A tall youth says with a sneer.
All the other kids gasp as they here this and you can hear some of them whisper ¡°¡±¡± That¡¯s Duke Halgons son, Aron.¡±¡±¡±
¡°yes, I know, and don¡¯t call me an idiot, since if you¡¯re so knowledgeable you¡¯d know that that only ever happens when the new bond is at the same strength as the other, if you assimilate a tier 2 light and you have a tier 3 dark, then you¡¯ll only experience mild discomfort, and that¡¯s also only if the beast or monster struggle. ¡°I reply with an equally snide remark.
Again, the crowd gasps because not only did I just talk back to a dukes son, but I talked back to the most influential duke in the northern side of the continent.
¡°¡¡±
Suddenly someone in the crowd snickers, as the duke¡¯s son, Aron¡¯s supposed to be knowelegeable, yet a commoner just beat him.
¡°You just made a dangerous mistake.¡± Aron says. Little does Kayne know how much pain this will cause him later.
¡°Kayne, that guy was Aron, Duke Halgons second son, who you just made an enemy of. Do you know how much trouble this can cause you?¡± Callum asks, worried for his friend.The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
¡°Guess I¡¯ll just have to become stronger and more important than him. You said both your parents were beast tamers, right? Can you tell me some of the less common things about beast tamers, elements and other stuffs?¡± Kayne asks, obviously trying to have a higher chance of being a tamer.
Slipping into a teacher like mode Callum answers, ¡°sure, but first you have to know that there¡¯s nothing that can really increase your chance of being a tamer. Okay, I think that the first thing I want to talk about is the elements, because not many know that there are actually only eight elements, all others are either subclasses or duel elements.
These eight elements are known as true elements,¡± he takes a breath as Callum thinks how much this knowledge will help him, remember, he remembers everything he sees and hears,¡± the true elements are; Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, Dark, Life and Death.
After these true elements, you get the sub-elements, sub-elements are elements that are neither true elements nor can be made from true elements, but have characteristics of true elements. The sub-elements are; Lightning, Ice, Metal, Sound, vitality, Decay. Now you¡¯re probably wandering why there are eight True Elements but only six Sub-elements, well, you see, Light and Dark don¡¯t have sub-elements.
So, Fire¡¯s sub-element is lightning because they¡¯re both a form of energy, some even theorise that lightning is just a very hot fire, since lightning is technically Plasma. Ice is Water¡¯s sub-element, obviously, but you¡¯re probably thinking,¡¯ water and air make ice¡¯ no. remember that there is hot air and cold air. Metal is Earth¡¯s sub-class. Sound, Air¡¯s because Sound is just vibrations in the Air. Life¡¯s is vitality and decay, Death¡¯s.¡± at this point everyone on the walker is paying rapt attention to Callum, even the instructor¡¯s listening in.
¡°Now, duel elements are just that, elements made from multiple True elements or sub-elements. Some of them are, magma, crystal, hell-fire, and even holy-fire.
A thing that humans, well all races that can use magic through different means really, have found that you must know the fundamentals of the element you are trying to use, sometimes you can gain insights into an element if you use it, most can¡¯t be researched, and you must find its secrets by yourself. The better you know an element the easier it is to use and the better use it.
Now onto mana, mana is the energy of the universe. It is found in everything, and mages use it to break the laws of physics, the reasons humans can¡¯t use it is because we do not have mana veins or a mana pool.
There are 3 types of spells, the first, and most common are external spells, manipulating the elements and so on, it heavily taxes your mana pool, requires inhuman levels of control and, the most important thing to most people, no studying besides the, well, the elements. Such a crude and disappointing method.
The second type is internal spells, or body strengthening, where you circulate mana through your mana veins to strengthen that part of your body. The issue with this is that the more you circulate the mana, the more you damage your mana veins. While you can fix them, it¡¯s expensive and rare to find someone who can do it. Also, if you damage them too much, they can stop working permanently, or even explode, paralyzing you.
The third and final type is to use the runic language. The runic language is the language of the universe, and, when used it can re-write the universe. The most advanced type in my opinion. It can create shields strengthen bodies and manipulate the elements, the issue, though, is that for every word, there is a rune, and when you write them with your mana, even the smallest mistake can cause it all to go¡. Poof.¡±
¡°¡±¡± wow. ¡±is what everyone is saying or thinking.
¡°Another issue...¡±As Callum starts to explain again someone groans and another guy shouts ¡®BOOOOOOO¡¯.
¡°while that¡¯s all interesting kid, we¡¯re here so shut up, ok?¡± the tamer says.
The city lord¡¯s mansion¡
All the commoners stood in awe, staring up at the mansion, no, castle in front of them. The nobles on the other hand just snort, the one even comments on how small it is.
The city lord¡¯s adviser comes out, and -in a grand voice ¨C shouts out, ¡°Welcome to the annual beast tamer test. you all are about to go through your life¡¯s most important moment,¡± He takes a dramatic pause and then continues,¡± finding out if you can be a beast tamer. To your left you will see 3 tables, please make an orderly line and do what the kind gentlemen and gentlewomen say.¡± And with those words he went back inside.
We turned to the left, and true to his words, there were 3 tables sitting in a row. Behind the first 2 were men and the last was a woman, one man looked like a professional merchant in his fancy cloths and with the big belly, he has beady little eyes and dirty ginger hair. I have to stifle a giggle at that last part, my dad always called them carrot tops.
The second man looked like a bodybuilder, imagine a bear, then imagine it with a scar over its left eye, now imagine its chewing on your dog, you now have an accurate image of him, I mean seriously, he looks like he¡¯s allergic to smiles, likes the smell of brimstone and long walks in the dark.
The woman looks like a friendly mother, yet with the seemingly permanent grimace seems to contradict that.
The grizzled looking man takes charge after we took a bit more time getting in line, (hint: we¡¯re trying to run away from him. ¡°ALRIGHT MAGOTS, GET IN LINE!!!!¡±
So, like any good-natured person with an ounce of will to live, we get in line, I¡¯m at the back, in front of Mr. Death (unfortunately??).
It seems the test is just to touch a monster orb, if it glows, you¡¯re a beast tamer, if not, sorry. Eventually I see Callum walk up and touch the orb in front of the lady, it glows. You see him wipe of imaginary sweat, he then walks to where all the other tamers are.
5 minutes later
I¡¯m now in front of the of the orb. I see Callum show me his hand, it has 2 crossed fingers on it. I¡¯m sweating, what happens now will change my life. If it doesn¡¯t glow, then I can¡¯t become powerful. The duke¡¯s son will probably whipe me out, I realise. I look up and see his smug little grin, gosh, I really wanna hit him in his fat face.

¡°You okay dude.¡± The grizzled instructor asks me.
I nod. I take a deep breath and reach out.

Chapter 2
It glows!!!
¡°Congrats, you¡¯re a beast tamer, NOW GET.¡± Guess the barbaric old man still hates life.
I go stand by Callum, (in the tamers line). We exchange some congratulations lightly and wait for the instructors to finish, which doesn¡¯t take long considering I was at the back of my line ¨C which was the shortest -, we only had to wait for 2 more people to take the test, neither tamers, then one of the servants, which were chillin¡¯ at the edge of the courtyard, near the doors, runs inside.
We wait a few minutes for the advisor to come out, when he does he shouts out,¡± well done all you who passed. All you who didn¡¯t, the tamer that brought you here will meet you by the gate,¡± what a turd right, I ain¡¯t working for him in the future,¡± All of you that passed, you, you¡¯re the future of humanity. Without you, we would be the weakest race. Yet all of you have the potential to be so much more. You can be magi, warriors, scouts and more, and the best part, you can excel at it. And so, without further ado, please follow me to the beast cages. You may then pick your first beast.¡± The uproar from this statement was so loud it was terrifying. All the children were obviously excited, but the instructors wouldn¡¯t be angrier if you peed on their foot.
¡°THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!¡± screams Mr. Scary, and when I looked at him his face had turned bright red, almost crimson, and his veins were pulsing so much, they looked like worms, ¡°THE COUNCIL OF RACES HAS BEEN GIVING THE FIRST BEAST SINCE THE BEAST TAMERS DISCOVERED, 150 YEARS AGO!!!¡±
All but the merchant was outraged but the girl was the calmer then the bear of a man. She put her hand on the man¡¯s chest and pulled slightly. He looked at her and she shook her head. Slowly she pulled her hair back, and we all see her pointed ears, someone in the crowd breaths the word ¡®elven¡¯, the man stands up and slowly, as if fading in to reality, tiger like ears stand up, again the same guy goes, ¡®beast men¡¯, we look at him and all in sync say, ¡°¡±¡± SHUTUP!!!¡±¡±¡±.
The elf slowly and clearly says, ¡°Should you continue with this, as a representative of the Unity faction, we will go to war, and we will wipe you out.¡±
¡°as a representative of the 9-cloud forest, we shall also wage war with you should you continue.¡± the beast man says.
Someone gasps, you see, you must know, the Unity faction is one of the 3 greats. The factions on this continent, in order from weakest to strongest, are the Beast Faction, this faction is the largest faction, taking up the entire 9 cloud forest, named so because it¡¯s on a flouting island the same size as the entire continent. It consists of all the beasts, beast men, and monsters that spawn, are birthed, or evolve in the 9 clouds forest. The only reason it¡¯s called the weakest of the 3 greats is because it doesn¡¯t take part in any other disputes.it could destroy the entire continent in days, if it wanted to.
The 2nd strongest is the demon tribes of Algothh, not inherently evil, the demons all live in the shadows that the 9-cloud forest¡¯s island cast upon the land and sea, known for their shadow magic, these are the worst foes, since while week in the night, they reign supreme.
The first is the unity faction. While being the smallest faction, the unity faction is strong because it encompasses all races. It has Armor forged by dwarves, ephirial knights, asura strike men, and many, many more. It has the best of the best. The only race that isn¡¯t part of it, are the demons.Stolen novel; please report.
¡°Well,¡± the well-dressed man says with a weasel like grin, ¡°I¡¯m afraid if you were to do that you¡¯d go to war with the demons.¡± And, unexpectedly, he says that towards the other 2.
¡°yes, ¡°the advisor says, ¡°you see, we, this city, are going to be a new kingdom, with demons as allies, a kingdom of the most superior race, humans. All you beast tamers who wish to join only need to come and pick your first beast.¡±
¡°Yet if you do, you shall never learn the secrets from all the beast tamers in Unity, you shall also be killed on sight in all unity factions, which may I remind you, this city is surrounded by.¡±
¡°you shall never be allowed in the 9 cloud forests, nor will you ever have a chance to ascend.¡±
Everyone was silent, first the kill on sight command was very heavy, you have to understand, demons live in the shadows of the 9 cloud forests, which is only one fifth of the continent, Unity takes up the rest of it. Your basically being band from everywhere but this city.
And ascending, the one thing that all people can do, from commoner to noble, human to construct. Ascending is the legendary way to ¡®ascend¡¯ to higher worlds, where they use the most rare and expensive herbs to feed cattle, precious and impossible to find materials for slave shacks. The ¡®only¡¯ thing you must do is climb the world tree and jump into one of the numerous planes. The only place in the entire world where you can find the world tree is, you guessed it, on the 9-cloud forest, and even then, it¡¯s but a branch. Every year the 9-cloud faction let¡¯s all people come and have a test. ¡®a test you say, what is this test, ¡®this test, well, you must eat the serene spirit seer fruit. This mystical fruit can see whether you¡¯re ready to climb the world tree. No one knows how, but when someone doesn¡¯t pass and climes the world tree, they¡¯ve been known to appear, centuries later, saying they were takin to a lower plane. If it makes your body glow white, you¡¯re ready, brown when you¡¯re not.
¡°why worry about such a trivial thing when the demons have the plane walker turtle.¡± Again, gasps.
The planes walker turtle is a turtle that can, well, walk across planes. If your plane of existence doesn¡¯t have a world tree, it will have some form of plane walking beast. The issue with the plane walkers are that not only do you not get a choice to where you go, lower plane or higher plane, but you also have a chance of being noosed, which means you basically die from the feedback. The upside, you can leave at any time.
¡°and beast tamers can learn secrets by themselves. Do you really need them? Also duke Halgon is joining us, so we¡¯re not alone.¡±
The elf says in a dangerous tone, ¡°Choose wisely children, we won¡¯t stop you from joining them, but you will receive all the penalties.¡±
Slowly I start walking towards the elf and beast man but, ¡°also, if you join their side, we¡¯ll slaughter your families!!!¡±
I cringe. What do I do, either I go good and my mom dies, or I go bad and I cripple my and my mom¡¯s future.
Suddenly there¡¯s a shout, ¡°sir, one of the families have escaped. A woman, alone, around 5 foot, red hair. she just disappeared.¡±
Immediately I feel relief, I only have my mom and that¡¯s an almost exact description of her. I carry on walking. When I get there, I see 4 other kids walk up. I look at them and one explains, ¡°me and Andros are orphans, the other 2 live in a village a few miles from here.¡± I nod. I look over and see the rest with their heads down. That¡¯s when I realised Callum¡¯s not here.
I see him on the other side with the adviser, ¡°I can¡¯t, my mum and dad are still here.¡± I shout out, saying they beast tamers, fire and ice, they can escape, he just says he can¡¯t risk it. I scream, and, as I¡¯m about to run to gouge the advisor¡¯s eyes out, the beast man grabs me, ¡°you can¡¯t,¡± he says, ¡°he has a demon on his side and its almost dusk, take revenge on the battle field.¡± I can¡¯t hear him; my vision goes red and I struggle for all I¡¯m worth. I see him put his head down, I see him turn away, and as I see him walk into the mansion, I break.
I stop struggling, stop screaming and just, just stand there. ¡°come on, we need to leave.¡± I just follow him as he turns around and walks away. We get on the walker and leave. It might have seemed a short time, but he¡¯s the only friend I ever had.
and with that one action, the demons of Algothh spelled their own doom. And the purist kingdom, well they were dead before they started.
This is how a legend is born.
