《The Spirit's Golden Era》
The lonely princess
In this era, the sovereignty of the world is ruled by the spirits. The current emperor on the throne falls on the sickly great grandfather of mine. My father as well as grandfather had returned to earth a long time ago as great generals and commanders in the previous feuds among the spirit clans that wish to overthrow the emperor¡¯s monarch and take on the position themselves.
But that is just a rule in this era. The most powerful spirit shall rule over the land as long as they are able to prove themselves as the lord of spirits. Of course, my great grandfather triumphs over them and remain the strongest to this day. But now that he has fallen sick, the other spirits will take this opportunity to become the new lord of the spirits.
You must wonder what role I play in this story. Well, to be honest I am just the great granddaughter of the current emperor. I am not actually all that strong either. When my great grandfather is replaced with a new lord, I will simply leave the palace of great spirits and live my life under the new lord in a humble place. Well, that¡¯s what I thought anyway, until I meet a certain strange spirit singing on a Sakura Tree within the walls of the palace. I simply stood at the balcony, staring at him as I listened to his song.
Normally, I should call the guards and reported him as an intruder but I didn¡¯t. I simply stayed in silence. Even if he is a spirit who came with the purpose of becoming the new lord, I wouldn¡¯t bother, for I believe that it is also the appropriate time for my great grandfather to step down. After all, in his present condition, he wouldn¡¯t be able to protect both humans and spirits. However, I also know that it wouldn¡¯t be an easy feat for him because if he were to step down he would really like to make sure that the new lord is strong and capable enough to protect the land and also wouldn¡¯t misuse his power as the new emperor. And this spirit that I meet this night is nothing of a lord¡¯s caliber at all. At the very least, that is what he seems to be.
It was only a little later that I realized that he was not a normal spirit as he gives off a human vibe. Then I know that he is actually human. But it is still strange for humans to cross the barriers of spirits into the spirit world. Normally, humans can¡¯t even see us. But this person, he even shifted his gaze towards me and smiled gently. My assumption is that this boy probably has a strong spiritual energy. There are humans like that. For example, those that claim to have seen ghosts and ghouls.
The human came down swiftly from the tree and slowly approached me.
¡°Hey,¡± he greeted. I stepped a few feet backwards as caution.
¡°Ah, no. I am not going to do anything. Honest. Won¡¯t you play with me?¡± he asked.
¡°Play?¡± I questioned.
¡°That¡¯s right. It¡¯s a simple game. If I win, you have to tell me your name,¡± he replied.
¡°Then what if I win?¡± I asked.
¡°You can demand anything that you want and I shall grant it for you,¡± he answered with a smile.
¡®What can a human like himself possibly do to grant any of my wishes? But¡¡¯ I thought silently.
¡°Agreed,¡± I wittered. Then, we played a game called ¡®rock-paper-scissors¡¯. I wondered what kind of game it was at first but I just got dumbfounded by how stupid the game is. Yet, I found myself completely lost. I feel extremely dissatisfied.
¡°I won. Then tell me your name,¡± he snickers. I pouted and before I gave him my name, I wanted to be sure that he has nothing up his sleeves.
¡°Is my name the only price to give?¡± I asked in doubt.
¡°Yeah,¡± he said.
¡°¡the name is Ellen,¡± I said.
¡°Ellen, I see,¡± he confirmed.
¡°Enough of that, how did you came about here? Are you here to take over the throne?¡± I asked.
¡°Eh? Throne? What¡¯s that?¡± he asked in ponder.
¡°¡if not then why are you here? Usually a person such as you can¡¯t enter here easily,¡± I said.
¡°What are you talking about? This is my backyard! My playground! I always come here since I was little. Although it¡¯s a little bit strange that there¡¯s a manor here when it¡¯s supposed to be a mere forest, but I always wound up here every time I venture into the forest. Amazing isn¡¯t it? It¡¯s like it¡¯s another world. But then I found out that this is a different world. A world of spirits."
¡°Is that so? Have you ever counter any spirits before? Don¡¯t you ever get into trouble? Some spirits here eat people like you,¡± I warned.
¡°I did. I made some friends too. There were bad ones, but nothing that I can¡¯t handle,¡± he smiled.
¡°So, will you be my friend too?¡± he asked.
¡°Friends?¡± I asked. I never had friends before since I¡¯ve always been inside the palace. I was never allowed to go out even the barrier. The outside seems very unfamiliar to me. But that person may not be an awful one as I thought he might be. I just nodded in agreement. But I never thought that my decision would lead me to inexplicable events.

¡°Great! I¡¯m Shiroki by the way,¡± he said as he offered a handshake. I pondered.
¡°What is that?¡± I asked.
¡°Uh, it¡¯s a handshake. You do it like this,¡± he said as he demonstrated it as he took my hand into his and shake them up and down gently.
¡°Now, we have reached a consensus,¡± he said.
¡°¡You¡¯re a weird person¡¡± I said.
I shifted my stance and wanted to head inside but then Shiroki stopped me.
¡°Wait, can we stay like this for a little bit more? I would like to talk with you,¡± he asked. I stared at him for a moment then decided to sit down again.
¡°Thanks!¡± he said.
¡°What would you like to talk about?¡± I asked.
¡°Ah, well. I have no idea, but just on a whim I¡,¡± he paused then continued.
¡°You¡you lost to me so I didn¡¯t get to know your wish. What was your wish?¡± he asked.
¡°My wish?¡± I pondered.
¡°Even if I tell you, it¡¯s not like you¡¯re going to grant it, right? So why should I tell you?¡± I said.
¡°¡¡± he went into a silence.
¡°¡I, I want to go outside,¡± I finally said.
¡°¡That is my wish.¡± Shiroki-san simply looked at me with his eyes widen. He was speechless. I wondered if my wish were too idiotic. But to me, I desired it more than anything else. It is not like I have never been to the outside. But after my father died, my great grandfather was just too concerned of my well-being for he feared most if he lost me too. Another reason, I possessed a power unlike any other spirits. Personally I don¡¯t think much of myself but there were cases where some bad spirits infiltrated the castle in order to devour me. They were apprehended of course but my great grandfather became more unreasonable to the fact of chaining me to my chamber itself. Thus, I couldn¡¯t go outside anymore. The chains were crafted in a special way that it can¡¯t be broken easily unless with some inexplicable force. I tried breaking the chains myself but it was pointless.
¡°Then, I¡¯ll take you outside. I¡¯ll show you what the outside is like!¡± Shiroki-san finally replied. I was stunned yet amazed by his reaction. I never thought he would actually say that. Even if it¡¯s just words, I was really happy of the thought. But it¡¯s just impossible to break me free.
¡°I lost didn¡¯t I? So you don¡¯t have any reason or obligation to grant my wish,¡± I replied.
¡°Even so, I¡¯ll take you outside. Because I have always¡¡± he suddenly paused. He looked as if he stiffened up. I smiled gratefully.
¡°Thank you for the thought. That¡¯s enough for me. Besides, it is simply impossible for me to go outside,¡± I said feverishly as I began to stand up from my seat. But as I stood, Shiroki-san caught me by my hand and enclosed me to his.
¡°Let¡¯s go. To the outside,¡± he said with a determined look. My eyes widen. I flinched as he drew me closer and taking me farther from my chamber.
¡°No, wait. I can¡¯t. Stop,¡± I tried to resist. And then the dangling sounds of the chains were heard and I flinched yet again. The chains were now visible to even Shiroki-san¡¯s eyes. It will resurface itself once my feet touched the ground of the yard. I can¡¯t go beyond any further after that. The chains will detain me. I averted my eyes from Shiroki¡¯s. He went speechless again.
¡°¡I see, that¡¯s why¡,¡± he said.
¡°Huh?¡± I didn¡¯t understand what he meant by his last sentence.
¡°¡So I can¡¯t take you outside huh?¡± he said. He sounded disturbed. I slowly returned to my chamber and Shiroki-san didn¡¯t stop me and simply watched. As I step onto my room, the chains became invisible again. There was a moment of pin drop silence before Shiroki-san spoke again.
¡°¡It must have been lonely all by yourself, here,¡± he said. I was stupefied by his statement for it was true. I was without a doubt lonely.
¡°¡That can¡¯t be helped. I can¡¯t leave here. It will only create trouble,¡± I replied. I felt so much remorse at the same time. So much regret.
¡°I will, definitely find a way to free you. So, you just wait. In the meantime, I¡¯ll come visit you every so often,¡± he said as he smiled rewardingly.
¡°Why? You don¡¯t have to do that. Just why?¡± I asked almost crying.
¡°Because, we¡¯re friends, right?¡± he replied confidently. I was taken aback. For such a person to exist, it is the first time I¡¯ve ever felt so relieved. To have met such a person, I was overjoyed. I smiled with so much gratitude in my eyes.
Chapter 2: The lost child
As he promised, he came every so often to visit. Sometimes he attempted to break the chains but failed. Time and time again he came and played and tried to break the chains with different means. One day, I just told him to give up for nothing worked. That I was grateful enough that he¡¯d come accompany me from time to time. That I was not feeling so lonely anymore with him as my friend. But his eyes told me that he have not given up. He ignored me and kept trying. But, the more he tries, the more frustrated that I¡¯ll become. It pains me to see him trying so hard for my sake, for the sake of one friend. He is too kind, I thought. Too kind that it pains me. So, one day I told him not to come anymore. That I have had enough.
¡°¡Don¡¯t come here anymore,¡± I said painfully. He staggered at my words.
¡°Why?! I have not given up yet. I will definitely free you! Don¡¯t say such sad things!¡± he exclaimed.
¡°It¡¯s enough already. I am already grateful. I¡will no longer open this door. So even if you do come, you won¡¯t see me. So, it will be pointless for you to come,¡± I replied.
¡°¡Huh?¡± he looked shocked.
¡®It is useless, you can¡¯t grant my wish,¡± I thought silently although tears were piling up at the bed of my eyes.
¡°¡Goodbye, Shiroki-san,¡± I finally said. But before I could completely close the sliding door, Shiroki-san stopped it and held me tight in an embrace as he kissed me affectionately. I gasped in surprise. He didn¡¯t stop at just that. He went and strongly gripped both of my wrists and pushed me down as he kept kissing me. His lips are warm. I felt embarrassed but I couldn¡¯t shake him away. He was just too strong. Slowly, he began transforming into a spirit. A nine-tailed fox spirit. He was so white. From the first time I saw him, he have always emitted such a strange presence and finally I know why. He was half human and half spirit.
After some time, our lips finally parted and he gazed at me with strong emotions in his eyes.
¡°I am sorry. The truth is¡, I have always been watching you since a few years back,¡± Shiroki began.
¡°Eh?¡± I was confused yet embarrassed at the same time because of what just happened.
¡°What¡ what do you mean?¡± I asked rather shyly evading direct eye contact with him.
¡°I am a half human half spirit, but I lived in a temple in the human realm dwelled by many spirits that are my father¡¯s subordinate. I was always warned by father and the other spirits not to wander by myself to the spirit realm as it was dangerous and full of malicious spirits that would harm me¡¡± Shiroki paused as he brought down his head to my neck and closed his eyes in reminisce. I became flustered and began to panic.
¡°Uh¡, Shiroki-san?¡± I called.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it¡°My mother was human, but she died soon after giving me birth. Sometimes I blamed myself for her death,¡± Shiroki continued.
¡°Surely that¡¯s not¡,¡± I tried to comfort him but he said,
¡°Just listen.¡± I nodded and kept quiet.
¡°Unable to hold back my curiosity, I ventured to the spirit realm by myself. I met some malicious spirits and barely avoided death. But because of such events as well that I was able to learn to awaken to my spirit form. Finally, I was lost and worn out¡,¡± he paused again, lifted up his head to look at me. His gaze was warm and gentle. I on the other hand was simply struck with realization.
¡°¡that was you?¡± I asked with trembled voice. Shiroki nodded with a smile plastered on his face seemingly happy that I realized who he was. Back then, I was only 15 years old. My grandfather was still healthy and strong. It was fine for me to walk around outside the palace into the forest around the spirit realm. There wasn¡¯t any spirits that dared to harm me knowing whose daughter and whose granddaughter I was. Also, a guardian was nearby and accompanies me at all times when I go outside. If anything were to happen to me, my father and grandfather would immediately notice due to the trace spell they placed on me then. If I was in danger, they would immediately rush to my side. Back then, I was playing in a river near the palace when I heard sounds of a child weeping. Feeling concerned, I went to the direction of the crying sound and found a lone human child seemingly lost in the spirit realm. I wondered how the child ended up in the spirit realm but did not care to ask. Hiding my spiritual aura in order to not to startle him or scare him due to the fact that I was a spirit, I hurriedly went to his side. The child was vigilant at first, but upon seeing me, I could see that he became relaxed and relieved.
¡°Are you alright? Are you by yourself?¡± I asked as gently as possible. The child simply nodded as he wiped his tears sheepishly.
¡°I see, did you get lost?¡± I asked again with a reassuring face this time in order to make him feel safe. It was bad if he felt threatened and ran away. I would not be able to guide him back. If he were to stay in the spirit realm then it would be only a matter of time until he¡¯ll become a meal for other spirits. The child nodded again to affirm my suspicions. I smiled and said,
¡°It will be alright. I¡¯ll guide you back home safe and sound.¡± With that said, I took him by the hand and lead him to the nearest rift that separated the human realm and the spirit realm. There was a rift in the forest in the area of where I lived. The child held me tight by the hand as if ensuring his safety as well as in order to not get lost again.
With my guardian nearby, I return the child to the human realm. At the rift, I bid farewell to him with a little advice.
¡°Please take care not to get lost again. Your parents will be very worried about you. Here, take this. It is a protective charm. I made it myself,¡± I said and I never saw him again after that. Personally, I was glad since it would not be good for a human child to be in the spirit realm where various monsters roam about. Time flows differently in the human world than the spirit world so i did not hope to meet again. However, to think that the day would come where I would see that child again, and that child was no ordinary child. He was half human and half spirit.
Chapter 3: The promise
There was a painful silence between us.
¡°I thought that you were an angel in disguise back then. You guided me safely home and even gave me a protective charm. I am still holding onto it even now. The charm you gave me was strangely powerful though, haha,¡± Shiroki said breaking the silence.
¡°After that, I was severely punished by my father. At the same time, he realized how weak and vulnerable I was that he began to seriously train me both in physical prowess and spiritual power. I was also banned from venturing into the spirit realm until I was strong enough. Several years later, my father began to bring me along with him to the spirit realm and I was able to learn a lot of things and acquainted with other good spirits.
One time, father finally allowed me to venture the spirit world by myself. I went to various places while keeping thought of meeting you one day. I never imagined that you lived in a huge manor and that you were actually so close to the rift between the two realms when I accidentally spot you. I came every day after that watching you. I was also wondering why you never left your home and stayed silently in your room. I was watching you from afar at first, but I grew impatient and gradually came closer and closer to where you are. Finally, I was able to speak with you and found out why you did not leave the manor via our little game,¡± Shiroki finally said.
¡°I see. You have really grown,¡± I said smiling as I placed my hand on his cheek. Shiroki once again embraced me tight and whispered in my ear.

¡°I love you,¡± he whispered softly. I felt my heart warmed and tears just kept on rolling down my face as he said the words. It had been a long time since I had received any kind of affection. I closed my eyes and said,
¡°Thank you¡, but even so¡,¡± I paused for a bit then continue,
¡°The fact that I am confined here does not change. Hence, I cannot be with you,¡± I solemnly said. Shiroki brought his face close to mine and began.
¡°I kept telling you. I WILL free you from your entrapment,¡± said Shiroki knowingly.
¡°I have something in mind. Will you wait for me? I will come back tomorrow and definitely take you outside,¡± said Shiroki.
¡°Yes. I mean, it is not like I can go anywhere,¡± I replied. Shiroki smiled and gave me a kiss. We parted and Shiroki swiftly went home. I stared blankly in direction where he left, still feeling hot on the cheeks.
However, everything went dark afterwards. And I never got to meet him the next day.
Chapter 4: Intermission
Shiroki¡¯s POV.
¡°¡What?¡± That was all Shiroki could have muttered in his shock. In a span of just one night. ONE night. And everything was a havoc. He came again to the manor where Ellen was as promised yesterday in order to set her free and took her with him to the outside world. But she was not there. She was not there at all. The chain that bounded her was broken, and Ellen was nowhere to be found.
No, more importantly, he had to assess the current situation. It was not just Ellen, the manor was lifeless. Spirits that lived in the manor were covered in blood were everywhere, and the whole place was wrecked down, as if hit by a storm.
Then, he felt like something moved.
¡°Who¡¯s there?!¡± Shiroki bellowed beckoning the presence to show himself. When he finally make out the hidden shadow, he discovered that it was an injured spirit, barely alive. He rushed towards him in a hurry and asked,
¡°What happened here? Where¡¯s Ellen?!¡± Shiroki asked rather impatiently.
¡°¡Great Spirit¡ suddenly¡attack¡ killed the emperor¡lead a hundreds of demons¡ massacred¡ the young lady¡rarity¡treasure¡taken away¡*cough *cough,¡± the dying spirit tried his best to explain the situation and coughed badly. Shiroki went menacingly mad when he heard what happened spilling large amount of bloodlust.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
¡®Who?! Who dared take what is MINE?!¡¯ he thought angrily before he gasped in realization that his blood lust was leaking uncontrollably causing the dying spirit to lose more of what was left of his life. He calmed himself and tried to think more thoroughly. First of all, he needs more information and figure out who that great spirit was. The injured fellow mentioned that the spirit lead an army of hundreds of demons. Then the spirit must be incredibly powerful and influential in the spirit world.
The emperor¡yes, it has been some time now so of course Shiroki realized the manor was the dwelling of the current spirit lord. But he never cared for the throne. All he wanted was to be with Ellen, whom he loves. Since the emperor was rumored to fell with sickness, there had been many moves taken by many spirits in taking over the throne. But the guardians protecting the emperor had always been able to defeat them and drove them away. The emperor would never let foolish and unqualified spirits to take over his place.
But now, the rumored unrivaled spirit lord had fallen? Then the great-spirit must also came here for the throne. Shiroki would care less who takes over the throne, but to have taken his beloved Ellen, he would never forgive it.
Shiroki quickly took the injured fellow with him and returned to his home to recover while gathering his direct subordinates, friends and followers for an emergency meeting. A new spirit lord will soon ascend in the spirit world and this would undoubtedly affects all living spirits within it. He needs to make preparations in order to retaliate and take back what is his.
Chapter 5: The tree
Ellen woke up to the sounds of cicada singing. Her eyes felt heavy and her body sluggish.
¡®I wondered how long I have been asleep¡¡¯ Ellen thought to herself. Then, as if she remembered something important, she gasped and quickly got up from her laying position on a somewhat soft bedding which she later realized after some time.
¡®This place is¡¡¯ Ellen surveyed her surroundings as she realized that she was no longer in her own manor. Memories of what happened that night gradually returned and when she finally remembered what happened, tears began to form at the bed of her eyes.
¡°Grandfather¡,¡± Ellen murmured in sadness. That¡¯s right. The manor was raided by demons and the emperor was killed. She also began to remember the later sequence of events that night as well as to what lead to her captivity.
¡°Have you finally awaken, princess?¡± a voice could be heard resounding throughout the somewhat exquisite looking chamber. Ellen only responded with silence. She knew who it was as it was the same voice spoken from the person that had taken her from her manor and killed her grandfather.
¡°¡Yes, I have. This place is?¡± Ellen asked calmly. It was no point in getting anxious or panicked in her current situation as she is powerless to do anything or even escape. The great-spirit that gradually emerged to show himself is very powerful and had taken the liberty to take over the throne, as the new Spirit Lord of the Spirit Realm. The spirit that appeared before her was very divine in appearance. He had two dark black eyes with the sharpest gaze Ellen had ever seen. His long hair is slick, also black in color that reached to his knees with two horns protruding from his head between his ears and temples. He wore a white kimono with white silk robe in contrast to his black hair and eyes. He emitted a kind of overwhelming aura that seemed hard to oppose. His eyes stared directly into Ellen¡¯s eyes as he gradually approached to Ellen¡¯s side of the bedding and sat down in a lotus position.
¡°This is my humble abode. Fear not princess for I shall not let any harm come to you. You are after all, a very rare treasure that could hardly come by even in a millennium,¡± said the great-spirit. Ellen sat in silence unable to retort on anything. Her life was no longer in her control. She could be killed anytime despite the spirits¡¯ claims for her safety. How could she trust the one who killed her grandfather? Ellen knew that any resistance at the moment would be futile. Thus, she silently prayed for her life and the hope that Shiroki would come for her. Shiroki had promised that he would come to free her. Surely, Shiroki would find out about what happened to her with the state of her broken manor and sought out to find her.
¡°Pfft, what an interesting princess you are, lady Ellen. To look at me with such a serious expression. Could it be that, you think you would be able to leave this place?¡± said the great-spirit seemingly playing the role of a villain. Ellen shook her head and bit her lips. She would never let any emotions of hers give way for the spirit before her to manipulate her.
¡°It will only be foolish of me to do so, Lord¡,¡± paused Ellen as she did not know what to call the great-spirit before her.
¡°Vier¡is my name, Lady Ellen,¡± he said giving an honest smile. Ellen was slightly surprised but quickly composed herself. After all, she still remembered the dreadful face that he had the other night when he killed her great grandfather.
¡°Then, Lord Vier, what do you plan to do with me?¡± asked Ellen solemnly.
¡°For now, I just want you to stay beside me, where you will be the safest. The other spirits here are not exactly, well, courteous, if I may. If I were to leave you alone, then you might become a ¡°victim¡± at the slight opportunity they get, I hope you understand?¡± said Vier leaning closer. Ellen could only nod as her face turned dark in understanding. There¡¯s a high chance that she would be eaten by the hostile spirits.
¡°Well then, since we have reached an agreement, I want you to come with me,¡± Vier beckoned holding out a hand. Ellen hesitated for a bit before she took it and had Vier lead the way.
They passed through the hallways of the mansion and Ellen could see several spirits minding their own business, spirit guards and patrols scattered about dutifully. Ellen was actually mesmerized by the mansion¡¯s beauty and gardens. To Ellen, it was unexpectedly peaceful and comforting, except for several suspicious glances from some spirits in the vicinity exuding dangerous auras. Ellen could feel her sweat running down her back as she forced her trembling legs to move alongside Vier. If Vier had not supported her, she would have collapsed a long time ago by the pressure.
The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
¡°Where are we headed?¡± asked Ellen feeling slightly better now that they have reached a place further from the hostile spirits.
¡°¡¡± Vier was silent for a moment.
¡°Lord Vier, where are we¡¡± Ellen tried to ask again but was suddenly interrupted.
¡°Lady Ellen, you don¡¯t have much sense of wariness, do you?¡± asked Vier.
¡°What?¡± asked Ellen rather confused.
¡°For all you know, I may be leading you to your death, yet you followed me this far,¡± said Vier. Ellen stopped in her tracks and stared at him wide-eyed. Vier stared back with a wry smile.
¡°¡I was joking,¡± Vier finally said.
¡°Eh? Ah¡,¡± muttered Ellen as she became flustered. They continued down the path until they reached a very old Sakura tree. It has large barks reaching for the heavens. There was not even a single leaves much less flowers on it as it seemed to have stopped blooming for a long time. Its wood black looking unhealthy.
Ellen felt sad just looking at it.
¡°This tree had accompanied my family for generations. It had been like this for over hundred thousand cycles now,¡± said Vier with a tinge of sadness.
¡°I see¡,¡± said Ellen with empathy. Then, her eyes flashed in an instant as she had come to a conclusion.
¡°Then, you brought me here to exchange my life for this tree?¡± asked Ellen looking at Vier in the eyes.
¡°¡No, I won¡¯t ask to that extent,¡± said Vier shaking his head.
¡°But I hope that you could share a bit of your tremendous life force with this old friend of mine, just enough life force, only so I could see it bloom one last time,¡± said Vier with tenderness in his eyes. There was silence between them where only the sound of nature lulls in the area.
Ellen felt conflicted. She did not know Vier¡¯s real motive. But at the same time, she could feel his sincerity. She truly felt that the great-spirit before her truly wants to see the tree to bloom one last time. There was something about Vier that kept tugging in her heart. Vier was the spirit that took her away, and killed her great grandfather. However, how could such a spirit who killed her only family to have such tenderness in his eyes.
And Ellen felt strange how she could feel so much comfort from Vier and peacefulness in the mansion, the den of her enemies. Ellen felt conflicted.
¡®Perhaps there is something more than meets the eye behind the attack on her palace, and against her great grandfather¡¯ Ellen thought. It could be something more than just simple struggle for power. If Vier had wanted to, he could have had her killed on the spot. Then, he brought her here not to exhaust her life, but simply to provide enough for the tree to gleam with life one last time. Ellen felt the need to find out more about Vier. Who he really was. Ellen felt the need to as to clear the fog in her heart. After a long silence, Ellen finally said.
¡°I understand, I will grant you this wish, Lord Vier.¡± As soon as Vier heard this, he smiled honestly with a mix of emotions of happiness as well as sadness.
Chapter 6: Ability
Ellen moved closer to the tree and placed her hand on it. She immersed herself within her soul together with the dying tree¡¯s soul and proceeded to pour the appropriate amount of her life force from her soul into the tree¡¯s soul. This was one of her unique ability to give a part of her life force to another.
In correspondence to Ellen¡¯s soul, in Ellen¡¯s sub-consciousness, the Tree¡¯s soul began to warp around her which caused Ellen slightly panic. The receiving soul normally would simply receive the life force without reacting to it. With the feeling of unease engulfing Ellen, she could not retaliate as the tree¡¯s soul kept on warping her. Her heart beats faster and faster until a moment later the tree began emitting a radiant light.
Ellen immediately realized that the tree before her was not a normal tree. It was an ancient tree with sentience! Due to its weak constitution, it has been asleep for a long time, waiting for its life to run out. Now, that it had received Ellen¡¯s life force, the tree once again woke up from its long slumber.
Without any warning, the tree¡¯s memories flowed into Ellen¡¯s mind, all the time that the tree had spent guarding the family¡¯s household and all the events that transpired within it that the tree recorded in its memories. Ellen felt nothing but shock at the truths that had been revealed to her (which will slowly be revealed later in the story along the timeline).
Once all the memories had flowed into her, the tree finally set Ellen free from its grasp and Ellen regained her consciousness in the real world. Upon opening her eyes, she could see Vier holding her with a hidden worried look.
¡°Lady Ellen, you have finally come to your senses,¡± Vier sighed.
¡°¡¡± Ellen could only looked at him in silence. She could not form any words after what happened.
¡°You suddenly collapsed, did you give too much life force?¡± Vier asked. Ellen shook her head. Vier sighed again as if relieved.
¡°The tree¡,¡± Ellen finally said as she stared at the tree before her. The tree looked majestic. Though its wood were still black due to old age, it now bloomed with pink flowers showering the area as the wind blew off its'' petals.
¡°It¡¯s beautiful¡,¡± said Ellen, her lips curved into a sweet smile.

¡°Yes, it is,¡± said Vier, who also formed a smile as he stared at his old friend. Ellen and Vier sat at the terrace near the tree enjoying the view as the tree slowly began to die out exhausting the last of its life. By twilight, the tree fell its last petal which landed on Ellen¡¯s small hand. With a smile, Ellen closed her eyes and kissed the petal in her hands.
¡°Farewell,¡± said Ellen.
¡°Thank you, Lady Ellen. I was able to see my old friend gleamed with life again,¡± said Vier still staring at the now lifeless tree.
¡°I will escort you to your chambers now. You must have felt exhausted for what you did. It would be best if you do not collapse again after overexerting yourself,¡± said Vier. Ellen shook her head.
¡°I did not overexert myself, Lord Vier. Normally, I wouldn¡¯t collapse even after I gave quite an amount of life force for my once father, grandfather and great grandfather,¡± Ellen denied albeit feeling a bit bitter.
¡°It was for a different reason,¡± Ellen revealed. She noticed that Vier winced a bit in grimace before he asked.
¡°A different reason?¡±
¡°Yes. Your old friend was special. It developed its sentience and stored quite a lot of memories of this household. It had tried its best in protecting this precious place,¡± Ellen replied. Vier was bewildered and could only stare at her in disbelief. Seeing this, Ellen looked at him knowingly with a bright smile. The peaceful atmosphere seemed to turn warmer as Vier returned her smile with his own.
Meanwhile, Shiroki had his punitive investigation team to scout for traces of the attackers in his attempt to rescue Ellen. Eventually, the day of the meeting between the two great powers drew near and nearer.
Note: in the spirit realm, there are only 6 Diem (months) a cycle (year) with 60 days a Diem divided by the first half and the second half. The six Diems are Riad, Emir, Sen, Taluk, Geas, and Myar.
Chapter 7: His treasure
Second half of Emir.
It has been two whole Diem since the raid incident and Ellen had been living with Lord Vier and his subordinates. For once, she could roam about the mansion as she pleased, not confined in her own chambers, and especially not restricted by an invisible chain. Which makes Ellen to ponder how unusual it was for her to be imprisoned by her once great grandfather. But it did not matter anymore as she had known the reason.
The other spirits in the household gradually came to accept her existence within the mansion and began to approach her with less hostile intent. After some point in time, all of them eventually got along. Ellen had been alone most of times and felt rather lonely so she was happy to be able to befriend the other spirits. Ellen still sensed some suspicious glances from some of the spirits but it did not bother her anymore.
But one time, one of the spirits, Balamore, could not stand it and began to squeeze her tight and rub her cheeks in ecstasy due to her adorableness, as claimed by Vier. Ellen was shocked when she was first attacked. After that, she would sometimes become a ¡°victim¡± to the spirits for various reasons. Ellen could not helped but asked for Vier¡¯s help most of times to escape from their grasp.
It was late Emir, and Ellen was puffing her cheeks in contempt due to the other spirits¡¯ behavior towards her. She was hiding away behind Vier and relentlessly complained. Vier simply sighed and chuckled from time to time. They were in Vier¡¯s office as he viewed a bundle of reports he received from his subordinates sometimes revealing a rather troubled look.
The news of the fallen Spirit Lord had spread throughout the spirits realm and many great-spirits and other spirit households had investigated the matter urgently as the new Spirit Lord needs to be recognized, acknowledged and crowned, assuming the Spirit Lords¡¯ duties and responsibilities.
One of the Spirit Lords¡¯ major duties is to protect the lower spirits and weaker spirits from evil spirits as well as spirit demon beasts. Evil spirit are intelligent spirits that are power hungry and tend to consume other spirits to gain more power, while spirit demon beasts are divided into two categories, those with intelligence and those with none.
Those with intelligence are powerful demon spirit beasts and marked their own territories in the spirit realm only acting hostile to those that dare to trespass or antagonize them. They do not attack lower spirits and live in isolation. Non-intelligent demon spirit beasts on the other hand are just like wild beasts that attacked any and anyone that are weaker than them as prey.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
With the absence of the Spirit Lord, these demon spirit beasts are running rampant throughout the realm thus ensued insecurity among the weaker spirits. Of course, many spirit household have strong firepower to protect their respective territories but eventually, they will need the Spirit Lord to stop or reduce the rampaging beasts from attacking their settlements and give protection to weaker spirits.
From the reports, Vier could not help but rub his temples in worry. There were many settlements that had fallen victim to demon spirit beasts and many weaker spirits had sought protection from nearby spirit household even if temporarily.
Vier did not want to assume such heavy responsibilities but he could not help but think that he had to reveal himself as the new Spirit Lord soon in order to restore the peace of the spirit realm. The problem was, he was not very confident in his skills in management. Also, he does not dare to hastily announce his claim to the throne with his suspicions in the present circumstances.
His concentration broke when a voice beside him interrupted him.
[Hey, were you even listening?] Ellen pouted.
[Hmm? Yeah.] Vier simply said and patted Ellen¡¯s head in defeat.
Looking at Ellen, he thought back again of the time when he attacked the palace. He was consumed by hatred and rage and killed without mercy. But when he found Ellen, his mind went blank. The long lost emotions that he once had, sadness, happiness and love returned to him almost instantly.
Before that, he was nothing but a vessel of hatred and monstrosity fueled with revenge towards the deceased Spirit Lord that had acted an atrocious deed against his family. None would dare to cross him. It took him many years to accumulate his strength and get his revenge. Now, he simply wants to protect what was in front of him. His most priceless treasure, Ellen.
Chapter 8: The coming battle
In Vier''s office.
[What are you reading about anyways?] Ellen asked as she scooted over to Vier¡¯s side and read one of the reports. Her face turned instantly dark as if she was struck with realization.
[Ellen?] Vier asked worried.
[That is, I think I have forgotten something crucially important¡] Ellen said looking troubled. Vier tilted his head in puzzlement.
[You see, before you raided the palace, I had this one promise¡] Ellen began to explain the promise she had with Shiroki.
[You have got to be kidding me¡] Vier grimaced as he face-palmed.
[He ought to come with an army, a battle that probably could not be avoided] Vier sighed.
[You¡you think so?] Ellen asked feeling slightly guilty.
[Well, I will need to make preparations for battle too, just in case we could not talk things through] Vier simply said.
[Sorry] Ellen said apologetically. Of course, she intends to settle the matter herself when the time comes.
For several days afterwards, Vier strengthen the security around the household and the spirits also trained in increasing their firepower. This is not only to prepare for the possible confrontation with Shiroki and his bands of spirits but also to fend off against the demon spirit beasts.
After thorough investigations, it was found that the demon spirit beasts¡¯ attacks have certain strange patterns. Vier began to have suspicions in regards to the matter but have yet to have the resolution to call upon other great-spirit households and discuss the matter and work towards resolving it. Since, as soon as that happen, he would not be able to postpone his position as the Spirit Lord. Other consequences and possibilities of him assuming the position after that also gives him a head ache.
[Do you feel unwell?] Ellen asked in concern. Vier shook his head in denial and patted Ellen¡¯s head gesturing her not to worry.
After a brief moment someone came and disturb the moving atmosphere.
[Excuse me, my Lord] Balamore.
[What is it?] Vier asked turning serious.
[Our further investigations have affirmed that the demon spirit beasts are acting more aggressive these past few laterals (weeks). Also, our scouts in the northern forest had reported that there are a horde of demons heading to Solis] Balamore reported.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Solis is the territory ruled under Vier¡¯s household. There are 6 great continents whereby 5 were ruled by the 5 great-spirit houses. The 5 continents are vast which 70% were consisted of mountain ranges, forests and some were separated by the great seas and great rivers that are further connected to small rivers in the forests while 40% were capitals and towns as well as settlements scattered here and there where spirits lives.
The palace where Ellen once lived were located in the southern part of the Yutah continent located in the east of the spirit realm¡¯s geography. The other continents include the Solis continent located in the north, the Rudal continent in the south-east, the Tiol continent in the north-east, the Frolis continent in the north-west and the mysterious and unexplored 6th continent of Vaatu located in the west.
Many intelligent demon spirit beasts marked their territory in the mountain ranges, caves, deep seas and deeper part of the forests so none actually dared to trespass and incur their wrath for it means certain deaths, while wild demon spirit beasts freely roam about the forests while avoiding the stronger demon spirit beasts.
Vier¡¯s face immediately turned dark at the news. However, he swiftly gave appropriate instructions to the spirits to prepare for battle.
[As you had suspected, my Lord. Someone, perhaps an evil spirit, is the mastermind behind the demon spirit beasts¡¯ rampage. The demons movements were strange as if they were listening to someone¡¯s command. But to control this many wild demon spirit beasts, and attacked several territories at the same time is unheard of. As you have feared, we might be up against a terrifying foe] Balamore remarked.
[Eh?!] Ellen was shocked at the present circumstances. She did not know much of what was going on. She was after all, merrily enjoying herself at the mansion and the other spirits did not break any news to her.
[Worst, I think they may have the support of one or maybe more of the spirit households. While I try as I might to convince myself that it is not the case, the timing is simply too convenient as it happened not long after the news of the fallen spirit lord. While I do not like to think that the great-spirit households would betray us, I cannot deny the possibility] Vier sighed.
[Eh?!] Ellen exclaimed again. Her mouth gaped with the shape of an ¡®o¡¯.
Vier knew that he was the trigger for all of these unfortunate events since he killed the spirit lord and that he need to take responsibilities. But things are really going out of hand. There are so many things that he needed to do, that he did not know where to start, especially in order to clean up the matter of the spirit lord.
Coupled with the attacks from demon spirit beasts, an unknown enemy and possible betrayal from great-spirit households, he might just turn crazy from all the head ache. Ah, there was also Shiroki. Vier sighed again.
Chapter 9: Rampaging Spirit Beasts
[Author¡¯s note: Experimenting with first person view]
Shiroki¡¯s POV.
The atmosphere feels eerily calm tonight. Just like the calm before the storm. It had been a couple of Diem since the raid on the palace and Ellen¡¯s disappearance. I had sent a punitive investigation team and increase my and subordinates¡¯ battle prowess.
¡®It is finally time,¡¯ I thought deeply.
The Great-Spirit¡¯s whereabouts that had been responsible for the raid on the palace had finally been determined and located much due effort a couple of laterals ago. But I digress. If I wanted to, I would have just forced my way through the place, beat the spirits that stands in my way, find Ellen and be done with it.
But my friend and adviser, Foul suggested otherwise. Foul is a ''Byakko'' (Spirit of White Tiger) and stronger than me. Though I pretty much know that he observes my actions on behalf of my father, I could see him as nothing less than an overprotective aid. He reason that the great-spirit is an opponent that I cannot hope to defeat. Not with my current strength. Also, the great-spirit happens to be the second most influential great-spirit household and ruled over the Solis continent.
In regards to the great-spirit taking over the throne, none would likely to protest against it. It was the rule of this spirit world that the strongest spirit is to be crowned as the spirit lord and carry its entitled responsibilities. Having a well and healthy, strong spirit lord as the new protector is something that should be rejoiced over.
According to the information gathered, just until recently, the fearsome great-spirit had always been laying low so it was unexpected that the great-spirit would raid the palace and claim the throne. The other great houses had also caught news of this, but since the great houses are practically in an alliance, lasted since several generations before the current leaders, they practically just brushed off the news as something important to ponder later and focused on the crucial matter of the rampaging spirit beasts. Knowing how influential the great-spirit is, Foul reason that if I were to create animosity between us, then I might make enemies out of the other great houses as well.

I am at my utmost relief when I heard reports that Ellen was safe and unharmed. The spirit that survived the raid also said that the princess is a rare treasure thus it would be unlikely that they would kill her. But I had my promise with Ellen that I would set her free and take her outside. So I had to do this.
At present, I am in one of the abandoned buildings near the great-spirit¡¯s residence. Foul told me to be civil and negotiate with them to hand over the princess by way of a price. But if it comes down to the point where I failed, then I really won¡¯t hold back and force my way through no matter how much Foul is against the idea. I also brought along 100 of my subordinates that are on standby ready to attack at a moments¡¯ notice.
The meeting would be held tomorrow. However, things turned out differently that I had expected. I was aware that there had been rampaging beasts and even had my subordinates subdue them when necessary, but I had been worried about Ellen that I had not bothered investigating the case of the rampaging beasts. That night, the great-spirit¡¯s household was attacked from hordes of beasts from various ranks and levels coming from the north forest. There were even 8th rank spirit beasts! How do I know this?
I had sent a few scouts to observe the household several days prior to see my advantages and disadvantages against them. But the report that came tonight before my intended meeting tomorrow shook my mind.
¡°Ellen!¡± I exclaimed devastated and dashed through the streets towards the household. Foul, as usual was close behind me. I fought off every beasts that comes my way. My feelings are dread by the thought that Ellen would be killed in the storm of beasts. All my followers, amount to 100 all followed after me and dealt with the spirit beasts in support.
I managed to leap up through the high gates and into the household courtyard and unleashed my spirit essence to scan for Ellen¡¯s presence. When I got a positive response in my radar, I sprint towards her location as fast as the wind. When I arrived, I couldn¡¯t help but make a bewildered and puzzled face upon the scene that was transpiring at that moment.
Chapter 10: A Mighty Force
[Author¡¯s note: Experimenting first person view and slightly different writing style]
Vier¡¯s POV
We are currently under attack. Yes, that was all I could say about the current situation. What? Evacuate? You have got to be joking. This is my household, my home. I am not going anywhere! This is the one place that I have to protect. Sigh.
I dispatched my troops of spirit warriors around the territory and push the spirit beasts back to the northern forest. We can¡¯t let dead spirit beasts to accumulate around the area. Not to mention the horrible smell of carcasses, blood will also stain the area. Something that is not easy to clean up. So I prefer that we push them back instead of killing them. Well, some had to be killed due to their strength and threat they poses but for the small fry, might as well be lenient. I am not being na?ve, no! I had lived for thousands of years, do not belittle my experiences! Sigh, just who am I commenting to¡
Ellen refused to leave my side even though I told her to leave with Balamore to a safe place. What am I doing? Obviously I am fighting off those rampaging spirit beasts while protecting Ellen at the same time. No, I am not having trouble. I am the Spirit Lord! Sigh. Anyways, the lot of them just kept coming. I have yet to draw my swords and simply use my hands to fend them off.
What am I waiting for? A decisive moment. I had a plan of course. Again, who do you think I am?! I told my troops to draw the stronger spirit beasts¡¯ attention towards our household while the weaker ones towards the forest. This is so that the lot of them will be concentrated here. It¡¯s difficult to deal with them if they are dispersed and scattered all over the place. So might as well attract them to a single point. Hmm? Bad idea? Fumu, you¡¯ll see.
My subordinates doesn¡¯t have that much of a hard time dealing with those beasts. 2/3 of my forces are above level 80, only 1/3 of the forces are below level 80 in power. Well, they are still young in the household so it is a perfect opportunity for them to grind their levels and get stronger. This is training too, you know. Right now, I am fighting a 9th rank spirit beasts. The strongest of the lot, I guess.
[My Lord, I sense a presence with great power rushing towards us. There are other minor presences as well, around 100? It seems to be an army] Balamore directing a gaze towards the approaching presence. In the distance, I could see a purely white-covered young man...err...fox spirit dashing towards us at full speed in the corner of my eye as I deflect attacks after attacks from the spirit beasts. Of course, I made sure Balamore protects Ellen with spirit magic.
The young man, closing in on us stopped mid-way with wide-eyes.
[!] Shiroki.
[Shiroki-san?] Ellen gasped when she recognized the figure.
I see. So the young man is Shiroki. Then the other presences must be his followers. Quite the number he brought. Was he going to declare war or something? I¡¯d rather not have that. Oh wait, I did speculate that. However, he seemed to only be around level 125 at best. I doubt his subordinates are any stronger. So I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll have any trouble to subdue him when it comes to it.
My level? I am level 555. Ridiculous? Nah, the leader of the Amaterasu House is far more absurd in my opinion, with a level of 826 and still growing. His subordinates are all above level 100. So yeah, a complete powerhouse. Why did he not claim the title of the Spirit Lord, you ask? Well, if you meet him one day, you¡¯ll understand. Also, for Shiroki to have reached level 125 at such a young age is already considered outrageous. In comparison, my level is not that surprising considering my age and long life experience.
[Ellen!] Shiroki screamed as he broke out of his stupor. Why did he fell into a daze anyways? Whatever, who cares. By the way, I am still holding off the giant 9th rank spirit beasts.
*Whistle*.
Oops, there¡¯s the signal. I unleashed my spirit essence and scan the area. Good, all the spirit beasts are within 1 km radius of the household. My troops did a fairly good job. I tilted my head slightly and gestured Balamore to drag Ellen away from me. Ellen was being stubborn though. However, I convinced her to stay at least 10 meters away from me as I said that am dealing the last blow to the spirit beast before us.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
The Spirit Beast before me is a Giant Chimera which can be defeated by a lone Spirit warrior of at least level 300. So yeah, this is pretty much a cakewalk for me. Only Spirit Beasts that are above 12th rank could pose a threat to my level. The highest rank a Spirit Beast could achieve is 15th rank.
Anyways, I am planning to put an end to these assaults once and for all. That is why I ordered my troops as I did. With Ellen out of harm¡¯s way, I began my chant. I took out my sword and drew a circular motion from where I stood. I held my stance, pulled in as much as spiritual energy as possible into my body, let it circulate along my spirit veins and redirected towards my arms and finally to the tip of my sword. The immense amount of concentrated energy gathered at my sword in the form of lightning energy.
All of this happen in just one moment. Lastly, I took a deep breath and as I exhaled, I shot out my sword to the sky and a mass of lightning sparks throughout the area piercing through every spirit beasts that I locked in my scan over 1 km radius around the house, disintegrating them into dust. All the spirit warriors in the vicinity stopped in their tracks in awe. Not one spirit beasts survive under my devastating attack. Fuh, I exhaled another breath with relief and collect my composure.
I turned towards Balamore, Ellen, and finally Shiroki who seemed frozen in place. I looked at him with a solemn expression as Ellen ran towards him worried. His shoulder was bleeding. Looked like he got injured, probably incurred when fighting one of the stronger spirit beasts. Sigh. I strode towards them.
[You must be Shiroki] I said indifferently.
[Eh?] Shiroki accidentally let out a stupid sound.
[You knew of me?] He said with slight hesitation. I could see beads of sweat running down his foreheads. I wonder if he exhausted too much of his stamina? It is hard to believe especially at his level. I nodded in assent.
[Ellen spoke of you. Recently] I stated matter-of-factly. Again, his eyes went wide and turned towards Ellen. Ellen smiled with her eyes closed. She seemed very happy. Ah, youth. It reminds me of when I first met my late wife. Not. It was scary as hell.
Anyways, pushing back the surging memories, I relayed instructions to Balamore and my troops to wrap things up and take care of the aftermath while Ellen tended to Shiroki¡¯s wound. I explicitly told Ellen not to use her powers very much. If it¡¯s a minor wound, then it should be fine to leave it to normal treatments. I am glad she abide my words.
[Shiroki] Vier.
[Ye¡Yes?] He stuttered while his eyes were swimming. Hmm? Did I scare him or something? Did I sound too intimidating? I called out to him rather normally though.
[You may rest, here. It would seem that you have things to discuss as well] I simply said. At this, Shiroki¡¯s eyes regained his focus and a determined look can be seen on his face.
[Yes. Thank you] he said as he bowed to what seems like gratitude. He had his 100 followers dismissed and only had 5 of his close subordinate, including Foul to stay with him. Just where did this Foul fellow come from? I did not notice him. I held up my guard around Foul. He looked to be stronger than he seemed.
Ellen led Shiroki to one of the guest rooms while his 5 subordinates quickly got along well with my troops. It would seemed that they fought together against the spirit beasts and develop some kind of camaraderie and rivalry at the same time. They also proceed to share pointers in the form of spars. Sigh. The head ache is... Alright, I am going to take a nap.
Chapter 11: Respect
Author''s note:
This is Shiroki''s one-sided impression of Vier as he encountered him for the first time in consideration of the
present event and circumstances.
Ellen re-enters!
Shiroki¡¯s POV
The personage before me was unlike any spirits I had ever encountered. He was incredibly strong. He simultaneously dealt with all spirit beasts in one spell. He truly deserve to be crowned as the new spirit lord. And now I clearly agreed with Foul why it would be a bad idea to incur his wrath. Given my current strength, I am nowhere near his level.
I couldn¡¯t move as fear welled up inside me. Fear and respect. However, I could not help but felt bitter since the fact remained that he killed the previous spirit lord and took Ellen away. Though I realize that Ellen was not mistreated in any way seeing how close the two of them seemed. I actually felt rather jealous. It definitely did not miss my eyes.
Ellen never left his side and seemed to rely on him. Even when she was asked to get away to a safer distance, she was reluctant. Thinking about it again, the palace was devastated so it would be very unkind to leave a lady there by itself exposed to danger and the wilderness. She might not have been taken by force. I suddenly felt weak at the turn of events as I slowly feel the pain on my injured shoulders.
I had been urged to save Ellen that I had not taken notice of my injuries. Ellen came rushing towards me with a worried look. Really, I am glad that she is safe. She called out my name with her sweet voice looking over my wounds.
Looking at her, another question lingered inside me. How does she feel towards the great-spirit? Don¡¯t get me wrong but her great grandfather was killed. How could she be so collected and accepting without a hint of resentment towards the one that killed her family? How could she, instead of hatred, filled with warmth and reliance towards him? I shook my head at the thought.
It had been a couple of Diems. They probably had confronted the subject and settled on the matter and come to an agreement or something. Otherwise, Ellen could be hiding her animosity towards him seeing how powerful her opponent is. But this is Ellen we are talking about. She is the honest type. She could not hide her resentment even if she wanted to. She is like an open book. So that couldn¡¯t be it. I felt a slight head ache as various questions kept popping up in my mind. In the end, the great-spirit remained mysterious to me.
Suddenly, I felt a chill went up my spine as an overwhelming presence approached. I looked up and saw the great-spirit looking down at me.
[You must be Shiroki] Vier.
[Eh?] I accidentally let out a stupid sound. I was taken by surprise at his recognition of me.
[You knew of me?] I asked hesitantly. I need to tread carefully around him.
[Ellen spoke of you. Recently] He stated matter-of-factly, maintaining his prideful and cold expression. I was wide-eyed in surprise and turned towards Ellen. She spoke about me? Ellen noticed my gaze and smiled warmly. She looked very happy. Seeing her like this, I suddenly felt relieved. The great-spirit began relaying appropriate instruction to his subordinates.
Again, he turned to me and called out my name. I jolted out of reflex and replied in a flustered manner. It can¡¯t be helped! His presence is way too strong! I¡I am not being weak or anything!
[You may rest, here] he simply said and nodded towards Ellen. He seemed to be considerate of my state even though I could be his enemy. Maybe he did not think of me as such seeing how he knew of my relationship with Ellen.
[It would seem you have things to discuss as well] He continued. As he said that, I was reminded of the reason I came to this place. It was to take Ellen back. The great-spirit seemed to understand my purpose of coming here as well. Determination returned to me as I replied.
[Yes, thank you] I decided to trust him and dismissed my subordinates leaving with only 5 of my close ones.

Ellen simply continued to smile in glee as she guided me to a room to rest. I glanced towards him one more time to see that he was yawning and scratching his head and left towards one of the many rooms. His frighteningly overwhelming presence earlier seemed like a lie. This great-spirit, might be more carefree than I thought.
...
...
Ellen''s POV
...
I almost died from heart attack. Though I knew that a horde of beasts were coming to attack us, it was still rather frightening to be in the midst of battle. I am not a spirit warrior nor a spirit magician like Balamore-san so I could not do anything to help. Even when I thought of using my ability to heal the spirits that were injured, not many actually suffered from wounds, just minor scratches and cuts. It made me realizes just how capable they are. But then again, I still cannot approve of their behavior towards me! I am not some kind of rare species to fawn at! Honestly! I huffed at the thought.
...
A huge chimera appeared! Other strong spirit beasts began to crowd into the household as well! While I stubbornly clung unto Lord Vier, Balamore kept other spirit beasts at bay with spirit magic. Some were repelled while some were ruthlessly killed. Lord Vier clicked his tongue sometimes at the horrible smell. His face would contort in a hideous manner in intervals at the bad smell while he defends against spirit beasts attacks. I began to observe him attentively at a close distance, not moving away from him.
...
Could it be...he has olfactophobia?! (fear of odors).
...
That is not the kind of weakness I could ever expect from a Great-spirit...
...
Anyways, Lord Vier is very strong and capable. He did not even break a sweat contending against so many spirit beasts at once and according to my knowledge, they are all around 6 to 9th rank spirit beasts! I feel the safest by his side.
...
...
Shiroki came in the midst of battle. I could not helped but gasped when I recognized his figure. His robe were covered in dirt and he looked to have sustained injuries and bruises as well as traces of blood originating from his shoulder. As I began to worry, Lord Vier insisted that I distanced myself from him at least 10 meters away as he needed to deliver the final blow to the spirit beasts before us. Never did I imagine that he would obliterate all the beasts around 1km of us. Oh my once, great-grandfather, be honored that you were slayed by this person. I offered a silent prayer.
...
...
Shiroki on the other hand seemed out of it. I wondered what happened as I rushed to his side. I treated his injuries normally since Shiroki have not realized my abilities yet. I did not want to startle him. Also, because of what happened last time...
...
I felt ashamed of having such doubts even towards Shiroki-san. He is my first friend. He even said he loves...loves me. Ah geez! My cheeks feels hot!
The incident was quickly taken under control and Lord Vier''s servants were ordered to clean up and take care of the aftermath. After a few words between Lord Vier and Shiroki-san, I swiftly and happily brought Shiroki-san to a room to rest. I am most happy and glad a battle did not occur between them. I could use this opportunity to explain things to Shiroki-san. About the raid on the palace, about me, and about Lord Vier''s real identity.
Chapter 12: A slightly bad premonition
---
---
---
[My Lord...] Balamore
Hearing the voice of his retainer, Vier slowly opened his eyes.
[My Lord...please lay down properly if you wish to take a nap] Balamore stated simply as she knelt outside at the entrance where the door was slightly opened. She said as such as Vier slept in a sitting position against the wall, holding his sword firmly in his hands, ready to reflexively react to any malicious intents and attempts.
[Ah...force of habit] Vier replied, his stoic expression remain unchanged. Balamore smirked at the sight.
[Hmmph, Your Lordship only warms up when Lady Ellen is around~] Balamore said with a playful tone as she stood up and crossed her arms on her chest.
Vier furrowed his eyebrows and frowned as he gave his retainer a side long glance. His retainer always manages to get on his nerves every once in a while. While she''s a trustworthy spirit whereby she and her predecessors had served his family for generations, true to her duties and assumed serious behavior when necessary, he can''t help but wonder where did her playfulness came from. He ought to pity Ellen as well as she became quite the target in Balamore''s eyes.
"Well, at the very least her presence brights up the depressing atmosphere we always had before. And I have to thank her for always keeping me in check than letting me act on my impulses,'' Vier thought silently as he recounted the days where he was engulfed in sadness, anger and despair.
[And? What brings you here to disturb my nap?] Vier asked. According to his biological clock, he had only closed his eyes for close to half an hour.
[I have a report] Balamore said as her expression returned to a serious one.
[Speak] Vier urged her to continue, his eyes glistening with a cold light. If it is something related to the recent attack by the spirit beasts and the abnormality of their behavior then...
Vier had ordered Balamore and her team of scouts to investigate the perimeters to find any sort of signs that may lead to the perpetrators. Of course, to clean up the area as well. Though it was a bit too fast than expected, Vier expected some good information nonetheless.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
[My apologies, I would have to disappoint you in that regard, My Lord] Balamore did not beat around the bush and quickly deny any findings.
[Sigh, if the enemy was able to control that many spirit beasts and orchestrated such a grand invasion at multiple places at once, it is not that surprising that they are able to cover their tracks meticulously. Regardless, continue the search. Presently we are left on the blind side, and I don''t like it] Vier contemplated.
Even if they can simply trample on anything that comes their way with their strength, Vier realized that they are strategically at a disadvantage. Their enemy seems to know them quite well while his side does not have any clues on them, their numbers or their strength. Which is why gathering information is presently a priority.
There were plenty of things that they needed to investigate, such as how the spirit beasts were controlled to such an extent. Such capabilities spells disaster if not chaos.
[Yes, that is so....however, this matter is...] Balamore trailed off for a bit before she continued.
[The troublemakers have returned, My Lord] Balamore finally said, her mouth gradually contorted into a grin as she could not help herself seeing how her master stiffened and his face darken at the news.
[......I see] Vier said darkly as he supported his head with his hands.
My. Head. Ache. If this continues.... I might as well contract a brain tumor....Sigh.

Chapter 13: Well-matched.
**Guest Room**
Silence permeated in the room as Shiroki and Ellen slowly sipped their tea provided by a servant. It would seem that both of them have a hard time to initiate a conversation. Foul remained on guard outside the room observing his surroundings and keeping watch for any danger. His sleepy eyes had a sharp glint to it as his ears twitched slightly as he felt disturbances in the area. He fixed his posture that had leaned against the wall to a battle-ready stance, gripping his short word sheathed at his back as he scanned the area contemplating if he should release his spirit essence to identify the disturbance better.
Before he could move, a shadow suddenly appeared beside him in a flash. Foul quickly turned towards the shadow, ready to intercept any attacks when he immediately recognized the shadow that appeared before him.
[At ease, friend] Balamore quickly gain control and raised her hand gesturing Foul to calm down. Foul stood up straight and released his grip on his sword. Again, before he could ask her the situation, Balamore spoke up as if she read his mind.
[Please stay here and guard lady Ellen along with your young master. This is our household. Leave the situations here in our hands] Balamore simply stated so and just as quick as she came, she left.
"....I almost could not react to her....interesting, fufufu," Foul smiled as he relaxed and leaned his back on the wall again, remembering to listen in to his young master''s voice. Normally, he would be accused of eavesdropping. But it is one of his duties to keep an eye on his young master. Conversations included.
It had been silent until now. But it would seem that his young master was about to reach his limits. He ought to speak up sometime soon. There''s the fact he had not seen Ellen for a couple of Diems. There''s probably a lot that he had to get out of his chest.
If there is any cheesy lines, as expected of young master....fufufu, they will be great ''teasing'' materials. His lips began to curl upwards and amusement was clear upon his face.

After moments of hesitation. Shiroki finally broke the silence.
[Ellen.....this...everything....what really happened...?] Shiroki could not help but asked this. Presently, he was extremely confused. He had wanted to save Ellen, but the person in question seemed completely fine and did not seemed to require any saving. Not anymore at least. But still, it did not answer his question of how things ended up this way.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
[Shiroki-san....the truth of the matter is....] Ellen opened her mouth and was about to explain the circumstances but then suddenly...
**BOOM BOOOM BOOM**
A series sound of explosions thunders the Vier household. Both of them were startled and hurriedly got up. Anxiety and worry written all over their faces. Shiroki moved closer to Ellen as if to protect her and asked.
[Foul! What is going on?!] Shiroki.
[Stay inside Waka....Balamore promptly came here to warn me a while ago. They will handle it] Foul said as such as he detained both of them from going outside.
A strong gust of wind blew the surrounding, swaying the grass and tree leaves as if in a storm. All of the spirits in the household firmly stand their ground at their respective places as they would have been blown away otherwise. Foul calmly erected a barrier around them and thus render them unaffected by the wind. They could not help to wonder however who would have caused such as disturbance. Especially so since it was only a short amount of time had passed since the aftermath of the rampaging demon spirit beasts. One could only imagine how powerful the instigator is.
Is it the perpetrators? The spirits could not help but think as such considering the recent events.
HAHAHAHAHHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAA
A jolly laugh rang out throughout the residence. While it sounded so, the spirits felt a shiver ran down their spine. Without exception, Shiroki and Foul felt it as well. Ellen was deeply affected and fell down to her knees, cold sweat running down her beautiful face.
The strong gale continued to beat down the residence. Vier walked out of his room with a darken and solemn expression. Balamore was at his side.
He swiftly closed his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows as if annoyed, and proceeded to casually wave his hand. At the same time as he does so, a calm streaming wave of spirit power spread out and propagated throughout the entire household which immediately cancel the violet surging winds. The area became quiet once more until...
[You Old FOOL! Can''t you make a NORMAL entrance for ONCE?!] View looked up and bellowed, pissed at the one responsible causing such a ''grandeur'' entrance to his household.
Balamore on the other hand, was snickering at the side.

Chapter 14: Amaterasu Riku
*Solis Continent**
*Vier Household*
**Vier**
HA ha haha hhaha!
"I came as soon as I heard the news! Hah ahahahahh! To think the Vier I knew become the new Spirit Lord! I say...time has changed!" says the old fart who barged into my household with intimidating aura!
I think I mentioned him before....but this old fart is Amaterasu Riku. The current head of the Great Spirit Amaterasu Household. The strongest spirit in existence....if only he were as smart and reasonable...that is right! This guy is a complete muscle head! He can''t rule the spirit realm even if his life depends on it! He always settle things with brute force! No negotiation! All oppositions or enemies that ever faced him were grind to dust!
I can''t help but shiver at the thought. I am not sure if I should be grateful that he is my benefactor or hate him for it. Damn!
But he has such competent and powerful subordinates! I can only thank them for keeping him under control! Though it did not surprise me that he immediately assumed that I was responsible for the death of the former Spirit Lord. His subordinates did almost all the intelligence network and work that requires serious thinking and analysis of the situation. He simply hears them and decide whether or not to take action. Also, the great spirit houses are bound to investigate the matter. Even Shiroki found out and made his way here. I sighed.
"Old man....it has been awhile. But during these uncertain times...is it alright for you to leave your household?" - Vier
I ask in the most respectable manner I could muster as I stared at him floating above ground with a grim expression. Patience! I cannot lose my composure!
Though I really want to kick him out right this instant.....I had a trauma with him....
"Hahaha, no problem...no problem. My Rudal continent is completely impenetrable! Those rampaging spirit beasts will only jump into their deaths! Hahahaha! Nothing that my subordinates can''t handle!" -Amaterasu
"Sigh...very well. Please stop releasing your aura. You are scaring MY subordinates. Balamore, prepare the best guest room" I said as I glared at Balamore. She is obviously enjoying this!
Balamore coughed twice and replied with an affirmative and quickly left to execute my orders.
The rest of my subordinates could finally relaxed as the old man retreated his aura. They were quickly dismissed and resumed their respective duties. None would likely come close for a while.

*Guest Room*
"Fufufufu....to think that the Head of the Amaterasu House would come and visit in such a flashy manner. As expected of the strongest," - Foul mused as he nodded to himself. He always like a good show.
"Foul? Did you just said the Amaterasu House?" Shiroki asked with an uneasy voice. Foul simply gave him a meaningful smile.
He heard a lot about the Amaterasu House in his many adventures throughout the spirit realm. The Head of the Amaterasu house was a legendary figure, the oldest among the 5 heads of the great spirit houses.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Although Shiroki never bothered or make much contact with any of the figures of the great spirit household in his short period of life in the spirit realm, he nevertheless heard much about them.
He had many encounters, good and bad ones, strong and weak ones, but they were free and unaffiliated spirits throughout the spirit realms.
Never he had a fortuitous encounter with any of the influential figures of the spirit realm like the Amaterasu household.
He even had the notion that the great-spirit houses are nothing but an arrogant bunch that likes to flaunt their powers over other spirits in their territory.
This much cannot be denied outright. There are individuals in the many spirit households who held executive positions, and respected great elders that abuses their authority over their territory.
The great-spirit households have an alliance in pretext to not intrude on each others territories and undermining their authority. It was a pretext to avoid conflicts and war between great households. Some of them have good relationships and some with concealed enmity.
At the top, is the Spirit Lord. The Spirit Lord oversees the great-spirit households and ensure that the weaker spirits were not trampled on and protects them not just from dangerous entities such as the evil spirits and spirit beasts, but from being driven and involved in hidden conspiracies by questionable spirits from all sides.
Shiroki, who does nothing but ventures the spirit realm, stalk on the woman of his dreams, and never delves into power struggles among the spirits, have not much knowledge in this aspect.
Plus, he spends the other half of his life in the human world, where his household resides in.
The same could be said about Ellen, who spent most of her life secluded and locked from the outside world. The only knowledge and news she received were from books and servants. She never could have imagined that she was at the center of everything.
Shiroki turned towards Ellen and held her gaze. Ellen could not stand such an intense gaze and thus quickly averted her eyes towards the floor, quickly coming up with something to say in the tense atmosphere.
"Ah, you do not have to worry? Lord Vier and Lord Amaterasu seems to be on friendly terms?" -Ellen
As Shiroki was about to speak up,
"Seeing how Lord Vier was able to nullify the ''entrance'' of the legendary figure with a wave of his hand. I am sure that they are somewhat well-matched. Nothing to worry about young master...," Foul interrupted in a teasing tone.
Shiroki gave Foul a menacing glare and Foul quickly averted his gaze to the courtyard and shuts up.
"No, I was simply thinking that we were rudely interrupted," Shiroki moved closer towards Ellen and said as such.
"Ah, yes. Uhh, well where should I start?" Ellen stepped backwards in response, flustered. She remembered that she needed to explain about the circumstances that led her here, in the Vier household.
Shiroki shifted even closer in response to Ellen''s retreat. A smile played on his lips.
"From the beginning..." - Shiroki.

Chapter 15: The Beginning Part 1
**Solis Continent**
*Shiroki*
Shiroki was exhausted. He had never been so close to death as much as he is now. Sure, in his journeys, he encountered quite a few unreasonable and malicious spirits, some are even low evil spirits that provides him good combat experience once in a while but that was it. Any life and death situation occurred but in rare occasions. And Foul was always there by his side to ensure that he would not die a dog¡¯s death.
His frequent battles forged him to his current level of strength, but compared to long lived veterans, he might be nothing but an ant. Not a man, but a boy who still stinks of his mother¡¯s milk. Shiroki was forced to face the cruel reality that he was of no consequence to the eyes of great spirits before him. This fact builds huge frustration within him that without even remembering how it came to be, he had already collapsed there, on his belly, with his life hanging loose. Two great spirits looming over him, one with a cold and uninterested expression, the other with a huge and menacing grin on his face.
Presently, they are in the training zone. About 3 day¡¯s casual walk from the Vier household. But with unimaginable speed, Vier and Amaterasu did not take even half a day to reach the zone. Battles, or in this case, sparring between two great spirits would result in enormous destruction if they use their full strength. Clearly they cannot afford to spar in the training courtyard of the household and moved to the training zone, a wild plane between a prairie and the borders of the northern forest.
(Just how did I ended up dragged in their ¡®sparring session¡¯? If I could call it one¡¡± Shiroki grimaced as pain shot through his entire body. Ellen was spectating a little bit further away. Foul and Balamore as well as two other spirits of the Amaterasu household stood around her,
There is a look of concern on Ellen¡¯s face as she looked at my sorry of a state, Sigh¡
I had shown the worst of my sides these few days in the Vier household. Such an embarrassment! Ah, what will she think of me now? Will she stay away from me from now on? Am I not a good match for her? Am I too weak to protect her? No, these big shots are just too strong¡right?
There is one thing for certain. I have to get Lord Vier to acknowledge me! But after all that transpired these few days, my hope had become non-existent! I want to scream!
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
Why did I need his acknowledgment, you ask? Because he is Ellen¡¯s legal guardian! That¡¯s right, after Ellen recounted the events that happened in the raid and the reason for it, revealing the former Spirit Lord hidden atrocities and connections to the Vier household, I had found out that they were blood-tied.
Yes. They are a big family. And that includes the Amaterasu household too! But such facts about the family relations between great spirit households were not widely disclosed as they did not intend to merge their household into one big clan!
Regardless, the fact of the case was like this:
A few thousand years ago, the former Spirit Lord was considered the strongest second to the Amaterasu Head, Riku with power level 562. The former Spirit Lord, Toriyoshi of the Garuda Household who ruled over the Yutah continent, the Amaterasu household lead by Riku, and the Vier household formerly lead by Vasiliki, were known to be inseparable comrades in arms.
Before they become the current head of their households, their forefathers, the previous generations treat each other with cold shoulders minding their respective territories. However, the small skirmishes and conflicts still prevails either with inside conspiracies within the household between elders and family members or with the upstart households that were newly formed, attempting to topple over the power hierarchy at the time, inducing chaos and conflicts everywhere.
The three youths met at a great clan gathering, its purpose was no other than to form good relationships, information gathering in regards to the condition and situation of the various clans, to probing and provocations among clan leaders who bore hostility and grudges among each other, while putting up a friendly front in public.
The three youth met, and forge good friendship, starting with a brawl. Yes, what better way to make friends than using your fists and beat each other up?
-to be continued.
Chapter 16: The Beginning Part 2
Despite their less than friendly encounter, they ended up as good comrades, as they shared the same ambition, that was to reach the pinnacle of power. They went on adventures together throughout the spirit realm, endeavoring the harshest of conditions. They went on raids to reduce the number of evil spirits and intrude upon the territories of powerful and intelligent spirits that hid in the caves, deep seas and forests, and mountain ranges, to gain insights.
Reaching their prime, they gained great strengths and met and unite with their respective life companions and leads their own group of subordinates until they took over the position of their household¡¯s heads. Entering a new millennium and a new era, another great clans gathering took place. It was at this time, that the proposition of a Spirit Lord, to oversee the spirit realm of its peace and prosperity as well as protecting those who could not protect themselves, was made.
The heads of all clans at the gathering readily agreed. Who would not want the seat of the ultimate authority and power? And the proposition was to the best of interest to all spirits especially the weaker spirits. To be fair with the election of the Spirit Lord, a tournament was conducted with all clan heads participating. It was assumed and decided at the time, the Spirit Lord had to be the most wised and most powerful, and thus discourage attacks from evil spirits and spirit beasts.
At the time, Amaterasu was without objection the strongest spirit, but proved to be unreliable in terms of his¡. intelligence. As the tournament concludes, while Amaterasu won against all clan heads, with Toriyoshi as second place and Vasiliki taking third, all clan heads voted for Toriyoshi for the position as he had both wisdom and strength. Amaterasu and Vasiliki who viewed him as close as real brothers had no qualms about the result despite slightly worried about Toriyoshi¡¯s cunning and merciless side.
As they knew him inside and out, they were convinced that Toriyoshi¡¯s hidden nature would put him as the most fitting Spirit Lord, where his heart would not waver if he were to pass harsh judgement to notorious spirits who deserved it. While his approachable and warm-hearted nature would pull all spirits to naturally attracted to and obey him. He would ensure that both humans and spirits were protected in his reign.

Amaterasu and Vasiliki both believed this. But what went wrong?
Years and years passed. The three conceived their own offspring and went about their ways in life.
They trained their children to become the next heads, and their children contributed to the great cause as great generals with an army of spirit warriors and spirit magicians against an army of evil spirits and spirit beasts.
Once in a while or once in every hundred years, a more intelligent evil spirit would rise and lead an army of evil spirits and spirit beasts to overrun the spirit realm, devouring whatever within their reach. At such times, the great-spirit households would combine their strength and thinned them out. But such battles were not without hardships. While they could reduce the threats of evils spirits and spirit beasts, they also lost a number of their own forces and talents. When the battles were over, cries of grief and mourn would be heard from all spirits and spirit households that lost their family.
It was the survival of the fittest. The spirit beasts and evil spirits hunger for prey in order to evolve into higher rank beings. While free and unaffiliated spirits and spirit households becomes stronger by exploring their spirit essence and their innate power through training, experience, knowledge and meditation, the spirit beasts and the evil spirits devour spirits or each other to evolve.
Such events repeated itself over and over for hundreds and thousands of years. This was the harsh reality of the spirit world.

Chapter 17: The Beginning Part 3.
Back then, The Spirit Lord borne three sons, one died in the battle against evil spirits, while the other reached his prime with power levels 454 before he died in the midst of unfortunate conflicts between clans. His third son had a weaker constitution compared to his older brothers but gifted with a cut and keen mind, ties the family bond between the Vier household and the Garuda Household via marriage.
The little lady of Vier Household, Enora, was 120 at the time. Just like Ellen, who is her daughter. Enora was Vier¡¯s little sister, where Vier was 155. 120 and 155 cycles old were considered young among spirits. A spirit at his prime would be around 1400 cycles old.
They were spirits and have long life span compared to humans in the human world. The discrepancies in time in a human world and the spirit world contributes to the difference in lifetime as well.
The ties were sealed between Toriyoshi¡¯s third son, Torizaki and Lady Enora. They had a child together, who is Ellen. You can guess by now that Ellen is actually Vier¡¯s niece. But the news of Ellen¡¯s birth never reached him, except for Enora¡¯s death, which were full of suspicious elements.
In the first place, it was hard to conceive daughters in the Vier household, and any that was born had always been unique and gifted with special ability. It was pretty certain that was their goal from the beginning, to conceive a special female child in their family bloodline, as well as in the future. Hundreds and thousands of years passed since marriage, Enora finally gave birth to Ellen, gifted with a strong soul and the ability to impart it to others. But what happened afterwards severed the trust between the two families, for a long time.If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
Ellen refrained from speaking into the details, just the consequence of the incident which lead to Vier¡¯s fury to the former spirit lord. Ultimately, Vier lost most of his family, except few of his confidantes and poweful subordinates that managed to survive the attack. While Vier was plenty strong compared to other spirits of the same level, he was no match to the spirit lord at the time. And thus, it took 120 years for Vier to accumulate his strength to his current power level, gaining subordinates and trusted household members along the way. The Amaterasu household, Riku specifically, took Vier and his few subordinates into his custody after the incident, regretful that he was unable to stop it from happening. Not that he was smart enough to discover his long time friend hidden schemes and agendas, much less the betrayal.
Riku sheltered him and supported Vier in any way he could. Even seeing Vier as his own son. But the one thing that Riku could not appease was Vier''s rage and enmity towards the spirit lord. And it was never appeased even after finding happiness with Riku''s daughter taking a place in his heart and became Vier''s life companion. Vier''s boil of rage was halted when his life was occupied with getting stronger, as well as his new family of four which consisted of his wife, and his three sons. But as fate would have it, he lost his wife too, and the dormat avenger spirit inside him sparked once more. And he was determined to see the end of it to free himself from the shackles of hatred that binds him.
Over the years, other households never bothered with him, much credited to the Amaterasu household aside from the fact that the Vier household kept a low profile since the massacre. While Vier may had lived hundreds and thousands of years, he had never so adamantly pursued the pinnacle of strength. Only after what happened did he relentlessly strived for power to defeat the spirit lord and avenge his family. So when Vier found his long lost niece, the only other direct family apart from his sons that shared his blood, his heart couldn¡¯t help but soften, and a knot within his heart that he never knew existed, began to unravel. (A daughter of the Vier household is always cherished strongly). But it was not that easy to remedy his cold persona after so long. Hence the gap in the tender treatment towards Ellen and his direct family, and the cold treatment towards others.
