《My Try at a Dungeon Story》
Chapter 1 - Because, magic.
Groggily my vision blurs into focus, depicting a small sandy hole with rounded stone walls on all sides. Glancing around with my not-so human anymore body I find my surroundings rather plain. Dark and plain. Looking up I find merely a continuation of the tiny walls, sealing me in this tiny, ever-so-slightly claustrophobic room.
If I had a thumb it would be deeply pressed against my pale forehead in annoyance. Great. I know these stories, I¡¯ve read them to my kids whenever I was bored. I¡¯ve turned into a dungeon after the destruction of humanity. I faux-sighed, Could be worse. Could be in hell. I quickly rephrased my last sentence, might be in hell. Too soon to tell.
Anyway, might as well get the standard stuff out of the way. Status! Nothing? Menu!

Well fuck you to. Not like I want to be a person with a name. I grumbled silently as I looked over the menu that popped up infront of me. No name. No titles. No nodes. No entities. And both ranks are 1. I sighed and I tilted my metaphorical head upwards in annoyed contemplation. Well, nothing to do but get stronger. Heh, I smiled wildly, maybe I can even become a god in this world.
Well then, Let¡¯s begin exploring my abilities. First thing¡¯s first- I promptly moved my vision around and confirmed I had the standard dungeon viewing abilities, as well as the room sense and floating crystal core, which really looks a shiny pearl at the moment. My ex always liked pearls. She also liked it when I said they are like her. I sighed, though, she didn¡¯t like me explaining they¡¯re basically a bundle of dirt wrapped in a good exterior. Anyway~
Moving on I found I could also sense this mana force in the air, and that I could pull it in and convert to my own like in those xianxia novels. I did gain a couple hundred mana after a few seconds, though whether or not the pace was slow or fast... *Shrugs* that¡¯s up in the air.
Next thing is next, digging into the walls. Focusing I pulled mana out of my tiny body and willed it into a rather blunt point, then slammed into the wall like an old, slightly bonked miner. Surprisingly my mana easily cut through the wall, leaving a trail of sand that slowly fell down to the ground. Hah! Energy can¡¯t be destroyed nor created! Happy with this discovery I looked down on the sandy ground underneath me. Willing my mana I tried something different, specificly I created a potent electromagnetic field that pulled all the metal particles out of the sand- covering my core in the process before clearing it- and then lit the floating orb above my head with the gracefulness of a kindergartner with a flame thrower, melting the asorted metals and creating a small bronze-grey ball that I dropped to the floor- which turned to glass at some point- with a satisfying clunk.
So. Mana is usable and versatile. Though my control is crap. Then again I wasn¡¯t really trying anything but seeing if it was possible, which it is! And that¡¯s great! First step to world-domination complete. I cackled mentally before collecting myself and looking at the ceiling, which I knew simply due to the fact sand falls down, and if it wasn¡¯t than this world has an issue.Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
Focusing I wielded my mana into a tiny drill, then promptly pushed it into the ceiling at a slight incline. ¡®What are you doing? You ask.¡¯ trying to get bloody insects to come in here. I¡¯m pretty sure animus is required to make creatures, and having a horde of insects to farm would be a good starting point. Though my walls aren¡¯t made of dirt. Oh wasted potential¡
Minutes go by as I continue pushing the mana drill towards the surface, causing me to wonder whether or not I was under a mountain, as my drill was moving relatively fast for my size. Walls are stone after all. I sighed, will I have to make robots and golems? I¡¯m a highly acclaimed bio-genetic designer of the year 2219! Leaving me with robots is a complete waste of my potential! And knowledge! *thunk! Finally!
Looking upwards I found my drill plunging through what was now dirt and with another thunk it broke through the surface, giving me an opening for a miniscule amount of air and a small pile of sandy dirt sitting on my tiny core. Luckily I¡¯m not underwater or anything. Though that could make for an interesting dungeon¡ Umu, I¡¯ll see about it later.
Now, hopefully some insects will come down into this nice little hole of mine so I can reap their pathetic souls and gain animus to make other creatures. Oh, and genetic material would be good as well. Though I should probably check out this Grimoire thing in my menu, expand! *ting~
- Dungeon Grimoire -
A collection of all information known to a dungeon. Whenever something new is created, it is stored and can be re-created for a lesser cost. Things can be converted into mana and absorbed, thus learning their properties.

Well that¡¯s easy enough. Basicly a folder system so I don¡¯t have to rely solely on memory. Nice. This is definitely an up of my day. Now let¡¯s see, no creatures, plants, nodes, traps, items, liquids, gasses, or solids! Guess I better get to work huh!
Well first off let¡¯s just eat the air around me and see where that gets me. Blindly I grab a bunch of mana and leak it out into the surroundings, then with the image of absorption as the base I pull the air around me inward.
>>You have gained knowledge of breathable air!<<
I raised an eyebrow in annoyance, no oxygen? No nitrogen? Just¡ breathable air?
¡
As someone from modern society this pisses me off. Why the hell would it be so simple! Like fuck! What is this world made out of? Polygons!? Everything is just a quantum field they say!
Going past my grumblings and the desire to create pure unfiltered oxygen just to see if I could, I move onto absorbing the sand, stone, glass, and the metal ball I created earlier. And low and behold everything but the metal ball comes up with things like ¡®Murky Glass¡¯, ¡®Hard Stone¡¯, and ¡®Fine Sand¡¯. What is this, a third-rate sandbox game? Actually, don¡¯t answer that. However~ The metal ball was interesting.
>>You gained knowledge of Orichulum, Iron, Copper, Gold, Silver, and Mithril<<
Woohoo! Fantasy metals! I shall make the dragon slayer sword out of adamantium! Though I don¡¯t have adamantium yet¡ I¡¯ll get it one day! Anyway why no other common metals like tin or aluminum? Does this world not have them or something? Also what about silicon? I know the sand has some.
Well nothing I can do about it now, though I will slap someone when I become a god. I mean really? I might not be the most appearance-aware woman in the world, or at all, but becoming a little shiny ball? It¡¯s kind of demoralizing! I can no longer eat! Not that I did that much without reminders¡ work was fun ya know?
Anyway~ Away from the depressing thoughts and on with the over-simplified science! I¡¯m just going to go and assume that since this world has mana, and the status window calls everything so simply, that I can just make things out of thin air. And you know what? I¡¯m gonna try it.
Focusing my mana I pulled out a huge glop of it, then promptly realized creatures I would create would have nothing to eat- so screw it! I¡¯ll make a moss that eats stone and forms mana fruits! This place wants to be simple with me! I¡¯ll be simple with it! Gradually I twisted the mana with focus, willing it to become my desired form as I pushed it into a thin layer on the stone around me. *thump with a jolt I felt another energy leave my body- probably animus- and coil into my mana as it somewhat wrenched itself from my control, leaving only my metaphorical fingers in it so I could modify it on the fly. Yes yes this will do, why don¡¯t we make the berries somewhat poisonous while were at it while the moss itself is somewhat edible. Oh! And to help with mana production I¡¯ll make it so when it grows to thick the layer open to air will turn into mana dust!
What? Moss doesn¡¯t produce berries? I don¡¯t care! It¡¯s magic! The ultimate excuse! I¡¯ll do whatever the hell I want because with magic it is possible. *ting~
>>You have created a new life form. Automatically named: Berris Manus Moss <<
MWahaahaha! It¡¯s Aliiiiiiiive! Getting over my franky moment I growled at the system for automatically naming my creation for me. Not that I have a better name, but it still rubs me the wrong way. Looking at my creation I happily found a thin layer of vibrant green moss already slowly wearing away at the stone and producing little pale blue beads of mana berries. And I only say slowly due to my perception of time, this thing is eating through stone at the same speed a carver would with a tiny chisel, and that is fast for a plant.
Though I¡¯m probably going to have to kill it off when it grows to a certain point as I don¡¯t want just one huge cavern, nor do I want said cavern collapsing on me. But for now it will do as a quick way to increase the mana density around me and start clearing out a vacant spot.
Now then, what to do next~
Chapter 2 - The beginning of dungeon city
Alright, I actually already know what I have to do next. Create long term, self sustaining life. And I have alot of ideas I can try out. First off I need to expand my cavern and make sure it actually has supports, I also need to lace the ground with nutrients by converting it into dirt. Luckily I have a little blotch of dirt sitting on my pearly core, that I promptly absorbed.
>>Gained knowledge of: Fertile Dirt<<
I would be grinning if I had a face. If it was nutrient poor I would have some problems, maybe even have to make a cactus or two, but with this I should be fine. Now then, to wear away at these walls that imprison me! Gathering my mana I pushed it into the stone walls- away from mossy of course- and then began absorbing it. Why am I absorbing it even though it takes longer? Mana, duh. From what I can tell I¡¯m going to need alot, creating mossy alone took a fair amount, about 2000 to be exact.
And now it is just the repetitive process of digging out a large chunk of space for my room, and chucking will-filled mana at the walls gets boring after a little bit. Luckily it seems my patience had improved by leaps and bounds after becoming a dungeon, otherwise I probably would have never made it very far. Luckily for me it doesn¡¯t seem I have a cap on my mana, which the current figure is residing at around 200k, though I wonder if my core will ever get bigger? I really hope my assets don¡¯t remain puny in this world¡ *cough* anyway~
After a few hours of labor- not birth- I finally carved out a decent ten meter diameter cylinder with rounded edges at the top and bottom. Also, I just realized I can actually see down here without light, colors and everything. And I can see light too, coming from the tiny hole above my core, giving everything¡ something. Speaking of which the grimoire never mentions what type of things I can absorb, so without further ado I promptly ate up the meager light shining down on me.
>>Gained knowledge of: Sunlight<<
I smirked and moved my attention to the roof of my cylinder room and planted a big fat stone in the ceiling, of course this stone was made so it absorbs excess mana and releases sunlight, instantly brightening up the dreary stone room. Excitedly I started converting the ground into fertile dirt. I¡¯m going to have to create an ecosystem, so I¡¯ll have to figure out how to make a rain cycle as well as wind so the air doesn¡¯t stale. Not that it¡¯d be hard to do, just slightly complicated.
But for now that doesn¡¯t matter much, I just need to create plants and a few small animals for my room. Specifically I need to create animals that are intelligent and can burrow through stone. And no I¡¯m not going with termites. I¡¯m creating an entire new species for this task!
But first I got to make them food¡ Hmm, I pulled out a lump of mana and started bundling it up into a seed on the ground. How about a tree? A tree whose roots could burrow through stone and suck the mana from the ground. Oh, and also break that stone down into dirt, while forming pockets of metal it absorbs in its trunk. A tree whose vibrant red-orange leaves, reminiscent of fall, could suck up the light of the air, flower and bloom into sweet, nutritious fruits. Whose pale brown trunks repaired damage quickly, were flexible but sturdy, and produced a sweet honey from within them.
>>You have created a new lifeform. Automatically named Autur Honber Tre<<
Again with the naming of my own creations! I complained, Do you gods not have any faith in my own naming sense!? I wouldn¡¯t blame them if they didn¡¯t, but it¡¯s still hurtful. Anyway, checking my pool I found that the tree used 89000 mana, and 70 animus, leaving me with just ten of the latter. Making just the moss used twenty so I doubt I have enough for grass. Much less a pollinator for my trees.
I sighed in annoyance and decided to just work on creating a structured layout of my future dungeon for the next few hours. Let¡¯s see, how do I want this floor to turn out? Usually dungeons are labyrinths or something similar, caves for example. However I remember a few dungeons actually being forests and canyons in certain games, the so called open-dungeons.
Unfortunately I am a bit far underground for a complete ¡®open¡¯ dungeon. Yet anyway. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.
However I do have an idea of what I want to do-
-Make a city!
I mean why not? I¡¯ll fill it with boulevards and houses, forests and parks, maybe even add a gladiator arena! And I¡¯ll have different districts be filled with their own sets of monsters, maybe even add a forge district with dragons!
I¡¯ll add my own custom humanoids, each with a different purpose and abilities. I¡¯ll add animals those people will keep as pets, mounts, or something else inbetween. I¡¯ll create giant buildings of all architectural styles! Organic! Metallic! Futuristic! Rustic! Nothing can stop me, Bwahahahaha!
*cough* anyway, I quickly began carving a giant circle with my core as a point along the circumference. I don¡¯t plan it to be the full size of the city because I will expand, but it is more of a test to see how far I can control my mana away from my core, the distance to the surface is a good ten kilometers or so , and didn¡¯t seem that hard to do. However you can never be too sure¡ (That is a lie. Yes you can. Especially when you¡¯re wrong.)
Luckily it seems my range is much farther than I anticipated. The circle I made has a diameter of about fifteen kilometers, maybe a bit too much for my starting point, but I¡¯m sticking with it. That range however didn¡¯t even strain me, which I find surprising. At the farthest point it felt just like I was messing around near my core, though it took a long time for the mana I transmuted to get back to me.
Well no matter, grabbing onto the ring of mana I had created I slowly started constricting it to hollow out a giant stone cavity. Of course the little moss and tree I created earlier were tangent to this, so they wouldn¡¯t get destroyed by it.
Then I started the agonizingly slow process of clearing out, which took me who knows how long. If my moss is anything to go by then I have been working on it for days. Speaking of my moss it has managed to hollow out a rough sphere-like glob of stone four meters in diameter, and checking my status I found my animus has gone up again from the constant growth and death of it. My tree on the otherhand has grown rather well, reaching four meters into the air, I should probably make the ceiling larger than six meters¡ Well that¡¯s not a problem at the moment. It was also leaking small amounts of honey, so that¡¯s a plus.
However I continued to focus on the main room for my city, and arbitrarily decided to make the room a giant dome with the height of three kilometers, which hopefully will be enough for what I am planning. I wonder if I can make a false sky¡ I shook myself out of my thoughts and accelerated the absorption rate of the stone.
Still, it took me a while to actually clear out the dome, and when I finally moved my attention away from it I shuddered on seeing the growth of my moss, it practically took over a good square kilometer of stone, not even counting horizontally. Guess I better harvest that¡ Also what the hell is with the lack of non-patience!? I didn¡¯t even notice how much time went by! While I experienced similar focus when designing a creature¡¯s DNA from the ground up, at least then I had a rough estimate of progress and the time that went by. This time I didn¡¯t even notice how much I progressed until I completely absorbed the entire area. I shuddered, is this what a construction AI feels like? I watched a talk on the mindsets of AI¡¯s once and how primitive ones do not notice progress, only the beginning and end.
Creepy thoughts aside I pondered how to go about clearing my field of rapidly growing moss. If I left this thing to grow would it consume the entire undercrust of the world? Absently pondering the end of the world I tried to just absorb the moss back into me, and with a sickening crunch all the moss turned to mana and streamed into my tiny-
Oh, not so tiny anymore core. I appear to have grown to a diameter of ten centimeters. Wonder if that is any good? Curiously I opened up my status.

O~kay~ Lots and lots of mana. My animus is also much higher than before, probably enough to actually make a creature! Though I should wait on that till I have a suitable ecosystem¡ Well, might as well get started with building the city.
Chapter 3 - Elementai Sanctum Orbis
Sighing I take a small break from laying the foundation. Truthfully I haven¡¯t even began to add buildings yet, just the lay of roads and aqueducts along with the occasional basement for storage, park areas, and bases for larger non-resident buildings. I also added a couple more trees so my other one won¡¯t be lonely, but that¡¯s not important right now.
Since my city was a circle I decided to have a ring in the center where the palace would be, 400 meters in diameter, then had eight roads branching off from it, splitting the city into eight parts. After that I had another smaller road ring every kilometer, ten time from the center of the city, the eight roads stopping at the last ring. The last five kilometers surroundings the city were split into four quadrants, the two ¡®northern¡¯ ons- not that I know the actual direction of north- were to be a mine and farm respectively. The two southern quadrants would be a lake and a forest.
Of course none of the actual things were created yet, but I¡¯m getting there! Yosh, let¡¯s start with creating the buildings, leaving the palace for last. A thing to note was I gained several types of stones and metals through absorption, even collecting the legendary adamantium! Unfortunately I still don¡¯t have zinc, silicon, tin, aluminum or other modern metals. (And yes, silicon is part metal.) Most of the metals I did get were fantasy metals, like altarus, astral silver, and Raeonite.
But still no modern metals¡ I growled in annoyance as I slowly built buildings out of a type of several types of stone I had absorbed such as Dark stone, Dry Stone, Dusty Stone, and even a stone called Steel Stone. Like the hell, this is definately a third rate sandbox.
I also found out I could use wood I have created like my trees, so I used that as well. Occasionally I would add metal plates of certain metals to give it a rustic look/future look. Other times I would use wood and create organic buildings with smooth flowing stone.
Unfortunately I felt I didn¡¯t have a wide enough range of materials to use, so I left myself with only building the underlying structures of most of the buildings, leaving alot of the area for my city empty.
Now then¡ I pondered over my next course of action, since it is possible to create life, would something like alchemy also be available? I frowned, the question¡¯s answer was most likely ¡®yes¡¯, the question is how I would do it.
It¡¯s been bugging me for a while, but this world is extremely simple. Everything is labelled with simple names, and has simple properties. When I tried to search my trees for cells by creating a magnifier out of glass, I couldn¡¯t find any. It was as if the tree was a solid object, not a loosely bound material made of atoms. That¡¯s right¡ Just like polygon¡¯s in a video game. Extremely detailed ones, but polygons nonetheless.
That leaves the question of how the world works. Is it like in those VRMMORPGs where it just assigns fields attributes and functions? Is it just a mass of data? Well technically anything is a mass of data¡ Not important.
Right now I just need to figure out how to use the world around me to my advantage. From what I can tell anything I imagine, given enough detail, can be made into reality with an adequate amount of mana. Whether this is unique to dungeons or if there are other creatures with this ability is up in the air, but for now that doesn¡¯t matter either. The attributes of any creature I create are determined by mental image, so can¡¯t the same be done for materials?
No use thinking. Act. Meditating I focus; Atoms don¡¯t matter, only properties. Focus. A thick durable cloth, waterproof, sturdy. Able to be dyed in multitude of vibrant colors and can be enchanted with various properties. It will act as cover for the markets, porches, and other areas. I want to see children, pets, and animals lazing under the shade they provide. I want mothers and fathers to lay down on them as blankets for a picnic. I see kids propping it up, buildings forts out of cloth, pillows and sticks. *ting~
>>Created Material: Vibrant Kevion<<
Blinking my conscious back to the physical world I found my surroundings¡ empty. But I felt the knowledge of the cloth I created, and with a swing of mana I created a large swath of it, causing a small smile to spill across my non-existent face. Well, now that that is proven to work I better get back to building. If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.
Since i am probably going to need large amounts of animus to populate this small world I¡¯ve created, so I better get started on creating a stable supply. To do such I will first populate the forest, and to do that I will need to create a sky for light. Focus. It is magic. The whims of my mind. I gathered my mana and dispersed it around the dome ceiling. Come, Azure, starry sky! I imagined my hands holding up the wind, A grin spread across my face as I let my fantasies take control. Come, Ra the eye of the day! Come, Ji! The eye of the night!
*Crick~ Mana and animus exploded from my core and shot into the ceiling. Unfortunately I was too oblivious to notice and continued with my delusions.
May you be blessed with eternal patience, kindness that is just, and power to share with those who lay under you! Come my stars, embodiments of power that my people will look up to for directions and guidance, the beacons that will provide my people with the elements!
My mana explosively amplified itself, shaking the whole land around me. May this world, forged with the hands of my mind, be sheltered under my own beautiful, painted sky!
*vvoooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
A giant crack- like a rift in space- appeared above my city, quickly followed by countless others as they streamed towards my horizons, even entering my little alcove and the tree room. Then the cracks bloomed, azure light and countless stars spreading across my sky. The city and the land surrounding it manifested as a pillar of stone rising up from a mirror with no reflections, Ra, my sun appeared on the right horizon, halfway submerged in the endless silver lake. Ji, my shining moon appeared on the left, opposite of Ra and of similar size. Both glowed with a myriad of colors, like an aura of power that surrounded them like the countless multi-colored stars. *ting~

For a while I watched in silent amazement as my visions came to fruition, then shook my head. Not yet. Still have to build the actual city then expand it. Also, I quickly opened up my status.

So. That took alot of mana. And I appear to have created alot of children with that as well. Though they don¡¯t seem to count as monsters or bosses¡ Changing my focus I explore the new surroundings with my senses, looking at my sleeping children that dotted the false sky. Ra currently was rising from the right while Ji was setting on the left, and with his rise he slowly woke up.
¡°Umu¡¡± his gaze swept the city and before I could call to him- ¡°Mother,¡± he called fondly, ¡°I¡¯ll wait for you to complete the city before awakening again.¡± and without giving me time to respond he returned to slumbering as he slowly made his way across the sky.
I snorted in amusement. My child is quite lazy. Well no matter, he¡¯ll fulfill his duty when there is a duty to fulfill. For now I look over the countless star children that happily spun around. Honestly they were more like a hivemind, and actively recognized and greeted me happily. ¡°Mother~ Mother~ Will we have little people soon?¡±
I smiled wryly and patted them with my mana, ¡°yes yes. Just wait a little for mama to finish the city.¡± They definitely remind me of my daughter in my previous life. Shame she¡¯s probably dead now. Oh well, no use worrying about it. Let¡¯s continue with the city shall we?
