    Greg and Raishin were staring into the dark patch Agnis had left for them. Elliana was looking at them, unsure what to do.


    “Is there anything I can help with?”

    I’m sorry Elliana, I don’t think you can help. I think we need to figure this out by ourselves.


    Elliana had used some elven magic and made the relatively barren mountain side quite vibrant in her boredom. Greg was just staring into the abyss and Raishin was throwing attacks at it. They have been going at this for weeks, but nothing had worked out for them yet. It made Elliana think of what her role was supposed to be and how the elves aren’t doing any of that.


    She flipped through the notes that she had been making since she joined team Hourai. They were details about the team members and their role. Agnis’ role seemed the most complete, while those of Greg and Raishin were relatively blank.


    It gave her a bad taste in her mouth that her 3 friends were putting their lives on the line in doing their roles while the elves were just relaxing in their villages. The adventure in that dark dimension had made her realize how otherworldly Agnis’ role is. Greg and Raishin’s role seems simpler but…


    Elliana sighed and looked at the back of the 2 mythical beasts. Nobody would be able to guess that these men are mythical beasts.

    Raishin had tiger striped clouds floating around him. They normally had an orange hue and black stripes, but they were yellow with dark blue stripes.


    Huh? How did you do that?!

    Rashin exploded in orange light and started to look as if he was made out of lightning.

    An enormous mass of lightning and energy got created, turned yellow with black stripes and disappeared. A strange orange explosion followed.

    Elliana didn’t understand anything that was going on. Is a role supposed to be this simple? She looked at Greg, who still was struggling in trying to figure out how to do his role. She made a sapling grow out of her hand. Does she know how to perform her role? What does ‘tend to the forests’ even mean? She would have to ask Bywen. She had no confidence in any of the elves she knows. Bywen was probably the only one who might know.


    She noted down any of Raishin’s new findings, no matter how nonsensical they might sound. Only his race is supposed to understand it. It shouldn’t be strange that their roles don’t make any sense for other races.


    I just can’t get it. Does your stupid intuition have a tip for me?


    Uhh so you have your abyss thingy, right? Why don’t you use that!


    It needs a lot of energy to use…


    Raishin pointed at the black patch.


    Why don’t you do your edgy stuff and ‘feed’ off that darkness or something?

    Greg went to ‘Feed’ off the darkness while Elliana walked over to Raishin.


    “Hey Raishin, do you have something for me? I just realized that I have no idea on how to tend to the forests.”

    Raishin made more masses of energy which turned yellow and dark blue and disappeared. Greg covered his hand in pitch black energy.

    Raishin made a strange pose and imitated Greg.

    Elliana looked at how Greg was chasing Raishin and played with some vines and continued taking notes.


    “Tree doctor, eh? Agnis pointed me toward a possible deeper connection to spirits, Raishin is pointing me to high elven magic. Both which have been forgotten or abandoned by the elves. Greg pointed me toward the four-tailed forest rabbits. Is this what we’re supposed to do? Why have the elves forgotten about this?”


    Elliana had never known what her role was supposed to be exactly. She had heard it so many times, but what did it exactly mean. She now had a good idea. It involved everything the elves have forgotten about or abandoned. Why didn’t she realize this earlier? It is so simple now she thought about it.


    “I won’t be left behind. I will also fulfill my race’s role.” She started a new part in her notes. ‘The role of the elves’ and wrote down what she believed to be included within that role.
